    Want to learn some helpful Excel functions? In this short I show you a quick use case for the COUNTIFS function to instantly count the number of customers by region from my example data set, which you can access if you check out my Excel for Analytics project series here: • Excel for Analytics Pr...
    The Syntax is as follows:
    =COUNTIFS(Criteria 1 Range, Criteria 1, Criteria 2 Range, Criteria 2, etc.)
    Where:
    Criteria Range means the series of data that has criteria you want to count
    Criteria here means what specifically you are counting from the range
    In our example we grab the criteria range (region column in the data table), and we match against our criteria list, which are the unique regions.
    Have fun!

    Are we able to build off of pivot tables this way?

      You could, yes. I'm partial to custom tables when I'm wanting to better control formatting and overall presentation, but a pivot can likewise handle a lot of these types of tasks

    How do I countif from a table, not just a column

    • @mattbrattin

      The example was from a table - can you clarify what you're looking to do?

      @@mattbrattin what I want to count is in multiple cells that are not in the same column (for example: A2, B5, C7, D8, E4 etc). So if I use ‘=countif( A2:E8, ..criterion..)’ it doesn’t work, because it counts from only the first column ie A:A

      This workbook just had a data table off to the left of the summary table and that was where the region and other data were being referenced. Is that what you're asking?

    What's the difference between countifs and sumifs?

    • @mattbrattin
      @mattbrattin  2 года назад +1

      COUNTIFS will count the number of occurrences of specific criteria, while SUMIFS will SUM data from a column where specific criteria are met.

    Isn't that countif without the S

    • @mattbrattin
      @mattbrattin  2 года назад +1

      Yes but COUNTIF only allows for singular criteria whereas COUNTIFS allows multiple, plus the syntax just makes more sense so I promote COUNTIFS. Just more capable.
