      In G:KOTM 2019 we fucked Godzilla up with the Oxygen Destroyer, and then patched him up and boosted him for his next fight. Godzilla woulda eventually healed from that regardless. King Ghidorah would fuck up the Earth and Godzilla would kill KG fifty years later or whatever with the new Mothra egg.
      This Oxygen Destroyer the Monsterverse has, if it were to hit Godzilla a second time while healing instead of the nuke, is it likely to then have killed him? I think it's possible.

    • @dantewhite9117
      @dantewhite9117 4 года назад +6

      @@jacobclark6002 Yes, this is true. Still, the point remains. By launching the Oxygen Destroyer in the first place, mankind interferes with nature again, leaving Godzilla on 1%, costing him the victoy and allowing King Ghidorah to escape since it didn't require oxygen to live. Therefore, they fucked themselves.

      @@jacobclark6002 I don’t think this version of the Oxygen Destroyer is the same as the original one. I mean, the original did incinerate Gojira into bones, but not Destoroyah that mutated into a giant super organism. I guess the Monsterverse Oxygen Destroyer was designed to vaporize oxygen, suffocating animals who breathe oxygen, and yet Godzilla almost drowned by it instead of getting incinerated.

    I know this video's crazy old at this point in RUclips years, just wanted to thank you for making it. The distinction between the anti-humanism of the Kaiju-philosophy and the more nihilistic elements of Lovecraftian Cosmicism is something that I'd never heard made before despite the numerous hypothetical battles of people arguing whether Godzilla or Cthulhu would win in a fight. It's particularly clear in the message of the original (and even the 98' American version) that human actions are significant enough to have repercussions, whereas in Lovecraft's work, human actions don't amount to sh*t. If anything, the philosophy you're talking about is even more hope-inspiring than humanism, since it destroys the barrier isolating people from the rest of nature and inspires us with the idea that there's at least some species on the planet that know what the hell it's doing. Anyway, thanks again.

As much as I also love Batman, I just can't stand how people take Marvel films, DC films, Star Wars, etc. "seriously" while Godzilla is for some reason is either not believable enough or not considered quality art and entertainment. I still find it perplexing that people are willing to give a free pass to things like colorful characters in skin tight outfits fighting crime and surviving all sort of dangerous situations. Meanwhile giant monsters suddenly are too unrealistic for people to indulge in. Talk about double standards.

      Pacific Rim humanist? How? I see it as being more nihilistic then humanist.
      We kill then, but we also risk some major consequenves. Their blood is toxic and can destroy the natural environment. And even if we kill then only inside the cities, thus humans being forced to exhaust the natural in a faster pace and accelerating polution in a larming rate (and remember, natural resorces are limitated), plus all the posible human losses.
      Next let's think about human development. We made bigger and better weapons capable of killing the extraterestrial invasion. But with what cost: (again) we exhaust the limited natural resorces and risk human lives. Even if you say that we are diminishing the losses that won't help considering my next point.
      The threat is also evolving and getting bigger. First let's look at some kaiju: knifehead, a head perfect to penetrate yagers, Mutavore breaked through the Anti-Kaiju wall, Leatherback was capable to stop the new jagers modele, Otachi could fly. Now let's look at the how they are coming faster to Earth in bigger numbers and with more dangerous abilities. And even after the breach was closed there was nothing to asure as that the Precursors would not open others in the future.
      We are not canceling the apocalypse, we are just delaying it.
      When comes to Cloverfield, I need to sau that if you look at the full picture is not și humanistic.

      @@calinvlad858 Another thing is that in the spin-off series, Pacific Rim: The Black, one of their Kaijus, Apex, became sentient and turning against his creators by killing and eating other Kaiju while fending off attacking Jaegers, and this marks the beginning of the downfall of the Precursor invasion, not by humans, but by their own arrogance, just like how the Martians from War Of The Worlds book we’re defeated by their own evolution not suitable to Earth and wasting their own resources as they overestimated their advanced technology after man’s weapons and devices failed to stop them.

    Great video, sir! I think another level of why we love kaiju art and stories is humankinds subconscious desire to be brutally taken down from being at the top of the food chain and/or destruction chain. I think we almost desire having some of our own power taken out of our hands and away from being our responsibility. Maybe it's an almost anti-humanism philosophy (as well as many other reasons) that brings us to love these movies and stories.

    an absolutely wonderful presentation. it's particularly valuable for it's precise explanation of "humanism" for an age that thinks that the humanities and philosophy are wortheless. humanity may not be the center of the universe, but humanism is valid for as long as humans exist, for many other reasons. as for kaiju, it should be noted that historically the genre has a western origin: 1: "the lost world" by sir arthur conan-doyle is probably the first story to feature a prehistoric animal on the loose in a big city, and in the 1925 movie this animal was a rampaging brontosaurus rather than a pterodactyl. later on, king kong 1933. much was already said about it's influence on godzilla. after that in 1952 it's the beast from twenty thousand fathoms.

Cosmicism just stems from the faulty nihilistic world view and extremely so where optimistic nihilism is impossible. It is a fun lore to explore, but not to embrace.

    Gamera is the misunderstood of the Kaiju. He seems to be a bad copy of Godzilla. Ironically, Gamera is more weaker than Godzilla.. He relies on his intelligence as a way to defeat his opponents. If Gamera exists in the Monsterverse, he will seem to be a minor at first. His role in the Monsterverse will be of the Guardian Kaiju. Oddly, Gamera is the type of Kaiju to understand humanity. In an ideal movie with Godzilla, Gamera will be one of the true Alphas in the Monsterverse. If anything happens to Godzilla, Mothra will seek Gamera in order for him to help her.. To Gamera, Godzilla is a good sparring partner and Friend. To protect humanity from the Evil kaiju as well as from itself, Gamera comes to save the day long enough for Godzilla to recover , and join his fellow Alphas against the evil Kaiju and the foolish humans who may think the Kaiju are a major threat. Ironic, King Ghildorah will likely return to the Monsterverse. In the movie with Gamera in it, , King Ghildorah will be fighting a monster whose agility is one of his greatest strengths. In Gamera's first battle with Ghildorah, he will fight Ghildorah as a way to study his opponent. Then out of sudden, Gamera will seem to retreat in a foolish manor. In reality, Gamera's reason for retreating is a way for him to stop Ghildorah by distracting him long enough. to protect humans.

    One of my biggest problems with RWBY is the series focuses too much on the humanism part, even when the show featured human villains despite the fact there are monsters, that are just oversized animals and other mythological creatures, that are trying to kill them. And to add insult to injury, none of the non-Grimm animals are Kaiju-like (even if they’re not massive), they appeared like real world modern-day animals, and are unable to fight off Grimm. Because, I’m not kidding, RoosterTeeth didn’t have the budget to animate wildlife as they focused too much on the location settings.

    The real kicker for me.. The monsters don't necessarily represent God, or just nature. What they more accurately represent is God's nature. God's creation. Like the Book of Job chapter 41 says. When God is arguing with Job and God is basically like, dude if you can't even handle (Godzilla), who I spoke into existence, what makes you think you can question me about anything?

  • @brianjordan3841

    Ok b4 I get into the points I wanted to make, I just wanna say excellent job on recognizing the importance of Kaiju aika in relation to mankind as they remind us of our hubris, arrogance, flaws, failings, n faults reminding us that when we reach too far or too high that we can sometimes create more problems then what we can fix Hell some of the problems we solve only end up creating new problems later down the road (using the Oxygen Destroyer may have gotten rid of the original Godzilla but it was quickly replaced by another Godzilla fortunately he would become something of a heroic monster meanwhile the Oxygen Destroyer later gave birth to Destroyah all n all making Serizawa’s sacrifice damn near pointless in the long run) I myself would like to c how well other universes would fair against the existence of these mighty titans ranging from both Marvel n DC, Star Wars n Star Trek, Transformers etc etc that being said let’s move on
    (1) when u talked about critics being dismissive of Kaiju movies as bad u described Godzilla as the exception n Gamera as the rule I am here to say that is false Gamera may have had more movies in his franchise that could b described as sub par or mediocre but they were no better or worse then some of Godzilla’s lesser films such as Ebirah, Son Of Godzilla, Godzilla’s Revenge, Smog Monster, Gigan, n Megalon r all considered to b bad movies yet I still c some semblance of good in these films so too do I c some level of good in the Showa era Gamera films n when u talk about these films being out right terrible u sound exactly like the nah sayers of the Godzilla franchise as I said some of the movies can b looked at as bad but there r at least 3 Gamera movies that r good not just good they r great movies n I would easily put them against the best of the Godzilla franchise (specifically in the Showa era) they r Gamera vs Barugon, Gyaos, Jiger they have the best stories, action, n to a point actors these movies r loads of fun, entertaining n enjoyable not because u could make fun of them unless u wanna make fun of Godzilla movies
    (2) when u talk about the subject of mechas in the franchise u said that all the mechas were mankind’s closest attempt to match the kaiju n each 1 failed now yes we can agree that Jet Jaguar did prevail thanks to help from Godzilla but then it was only because of Gigan showing up that Jet Jaguar began to suffer defeat it’s no different then looking at a tag team wrestling match with it starting as a 1 on 1 then it became a 2 on 1 when Gigan showed up they took turns beating up on him until Godzilla arrived then the odds were even a minor point that I’m trying to make b4 my major point is Jet Jaguar can easily hold his own n even win in a 1 on 1 fight now to my major point u tried to describe Mechagodzilla 3 (Kiryu 😩 UGH) as the only mecha to attain total victory over a kaiju n I vehemently disagree not only did MG3 fail to kill but that he suffered major damage n loss of power basically ending their first fight in a draw don’t believe me I’ll go through it in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla we c MG3 using up all of his weapons trying to wear down Godzilla even grabbing him n flying him out of Japan into the water (fairly similar to Mecha King Ghidorah I’ll come back to this later) the absolute zero cannon goes n while Godzilla ends up with a big bloody wound in his chest MG3 suffers a severely damage chest n lost arm not to mention he’s left powerless if Godzilla really wanted to he could carry the fight on n MG3 wouldn’t b able to fight back in Tokyo SOS MG3 strongly needed help from Mothra n her offspring while the 2 larvae web up Godzilla MG3 grabs Godzilla n flies him again out of Japan n back into the ocean but this time MG3 goes down with him (most likely running out of power n choosing to rest In peace) when looking back at the other Mechagodzillas MG1 fought against a total of 3 kaiju (Anguirus, King Caesar n Godzilla) n while he gets several good hits on all 3 of them he ultimately loses, later when the alien simians bring him back he gets taken down by both Katsura n Godzilla with MG2 he fought both Godzilla n Rodan but it’s with Rodan that he was able to cripple n ultimately kill Rodan n the fact that he nearly killed Godzilla b4 Rodan intervened yes MG2 would still lose to Godzilla (curtesy of the power boost from Rodan) but he did take down a monster all by himself which is more then I can say about Mechagodzilla 3 u tried to give him props 4 being the original Godzilla but that’s no better or worse then Mecha King Ghidorah who was originally just King Ghidorah meaning that he could’ve been counted as a kaiju as well as a mecha n yet he lost to Godzilla
    (3) final point to make about Ford Brody yes he’s not special every point u made about him in contrast to Sam Witwicky was right on the money except that his actions did not lead to his teammates getting killed if anything it was the thing that gave Godzilla a chance to recover n bounce back, getting a second wind n taking down the MUFO (Massive Unidentified Flying Organism) n the MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) the MUTO was gonna kill the soldiers regardless of what Ford did, not to mention he took out the offspring making it easier 4 Godzilla to focus solely on the MUFO n MUTO ok that’s it sorry it took so long

    Now that I think about it humanism does in a way apply to the heisei series overall, and Godzilla 1984 the military is powerless again Godzilla for the most part, by the time of Godzilla vs. Biollante they had developed plans and contingencies for Godzilla, then by Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla they have gotten to the level where they can challenge the monsters, and in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla you could view molgera as something being equal to Godzilla and fighting alongside of Godzilla to stop a greater threat, and then finally and Godzilla versus Destroyah the military is actually able to destroy Destroyah

    • @Slick-yj6mj
      @Slick-yj6mj 4 года назад +1

      I mean, sure, the military managed to finish Destroyah off, only AFTER Godzilla and Jr. did the majority of the work. In that last instance Godzilla hit Destroyah with his infinity ray multiple times. You see pieces of Destroyah's body getting blasted off, and that heat ray was actually MORE powerful than his red spiral ray. In that instance the military can be best described as those pesky minions you are trying so desperately hard to avoid because you only have one sliver of health left in a bar that was mostly depleted by that ridiculously OP boss you're trying to beat. Unfortunately for Destroyah, they managed to take that last sliver of life, but that's ONLY because Godzilla had already depleted the majority of it.

    In the novelization Ford's little show of defiance with the pistol is not even WITH a pistol, but he just does a gun with his fingers and points it at the MUTO. It probably would have been a middle finger if the censorship was okay with it.
    I think the whole idea with that scene is a "we can't win, but we can still be a pain in the ass".
    Humanism at its finest. Or its weirdest.

    If you really think about it, the new direction of the Godzilla series by legendary portrays that humanity has excepted that the Kaiju cannot be defeated unless it’s the Kaiju who do it, they can only except that they need to aid the Kaiju, not the other way around, even in the second trailer GKOTM dr Ishiro Serizawa says “we would be HIS pet” not the other way around.

    As a kaiju fan, I enjoy the genre both for its philosophical and metaphorical aspects as well for the entertainments value. I maybe not be the biggest fan of Shin Godzilla, but I do respect it for the messages and metaphors it was trying to get across, and even in the end the humans don't really kill Godzilla, then only freeze him. Pacific Rim: Uprising may not be as brilliant as the first one, but I still enjoyed for its action and designs.

    • @omniviewer2115
      @omniviewer2115  6 лет назад +9

      I may do a follow-up discussing other movies in this light one day (I had to draw the line somewhere), but I would say this:
      The movie states several times that the name "Godzilla" in this world means "God Incarnate", and Godzilla is called this several times, even in the tagline. One direct quote even says he is superior to man in every way, and he poses a threat of actually replacing mankind. At the end, he is stopped, but it is strongly implied that this is temporary and he could potentially reawaken at any time. Ergo, at the end of Shin Godzilla, the god is not dead, but merely subdued for now.

  • @Godzillakingofkaiju1
    @Godzillakingofkaiju1 11 месяцев назад

    Another example of anti-humanism actually comes from a movie that didn't even start as a Kaiju movie but rather became one in its climax:
    Princess Mononoke.
    In the climax, Eboshi manages to decapitate the Great Forest Spirit. She has finally won her war with the gods of the Cedar Forest and she's repaid a debt to Jigo. But what happens next?
    The Forest Spirit goes on a rampage, draining any life he can just so he can stay alive long enough for him to regain his head and die properly. What results is the countless deaths of spirits and humans alike and Iron Town, once a bustling village of hundreds of people, is cut down to a small dozen in population. Even after Ashitaka and San return his head, the damage has already been done and Iron Town now has to pick up the pieces and start over.

      I still stand by the idea that Godzilla 2014 is a deconstruction of Transformers, whether it was intentional or not. I've spoken at length about accidental depth in movies before, so I know it happens, but G2014 feels a bit too deliberate to me.

      STIRRUPLEATHER Confused Hollywood garbage? Using your flawed and faulty logic, the same argument could be made about the original Gojira film. "Oh its not actually deep, it just acts like its deep". Just because a film is newer and is made by Hollywood; that doesn't mean the themes it reintroduces are any less relevant. The theme in the Monsterverse of "We can't conquer nature, but we should coexist and respect nature." is still relevant to this day, and it doesn't have to made outside of Hollywood to be deep or artistic. To say that Godzilla and Kong:Skull Island are "Hollywood garbage" because they were made by Hollywood and not Toho is biased and ridiculous.

    Meanwhile, let us consider Godzilla vs the Smog Monster, which (in its American International dub anyway, thus why I've given it that title) I regard as the second best G film of the Showa series, and not coincidentally the one closest to the original in its attempts at a message.
    Does it fit the thesis? In structure, it's one of the purer science-fiction entries -- which is one reason among others I regard it so highly. The whole film (like G54) is focused on the kaiju problem de jure, Hedorah. Godzilla and mankind are both working from different angles to stop the cosmic horror, somewhat getting in each other's way occasionally, and neither one relying on the other for assistance. Then their paths converge at the end, where arguable each needs the other to succeed. In that sense, it ends up being anti-humanist: mankind works hard to develop the winning idea, with the fatherly scientist scarring himself early in the process (a thematic nod to Serizawa), but mankind also needs the power of Godzilla (much to their annoyance) for victory. But it comes close to humanism, at least in its respect of the effort and workable results of scientists and the military.
    On the other hand, let us consider a film I reflexively want to hate, Son of Godzilla, for a fairly obvious reason (the eponymous son himself). I realized some years ago why I love the film much more than I should, and that's because it's also a surprisingly "hard" science-fiction story for the series. G and Minya win, indeed, but their victory means nothing except to them alone: the scientists, working hard through adversity, correctly devise and implement a triumphant way to defeat all the monsters on the island. From the human perspective it doesn't matter which monsters survive to be defeated, and at this point in the Showa series Godzilla couldn't be counted on to be helpful to humanity later (although Minya might. Notably there isn't much affection shown for G in the film, except as a sort of side-effect for the human affection for Minya. G is still a threat to humanity, and justified as such.)
    Son of G turns out to be the one and only (?) clean counter-example of the thesis from the Showa period: at heart, and in execution, its philosophy is humanistic. (Godzilla's Revenge, also featuring Minya, is so off the rails I'm not sure it could or should count in any direction, but if someone wanted to make an argument for its classification...)
    I suppose the one clear Heisei series exception would be G84. While its sequel, GvsBiolante, would be somewhat parallel to the Smog Monster film except with kaiju roles reversed: mankind has a winning multi-stage plan for defeating Godzilla, but ends up needing Biolante (the unlikely kaiju heroine) to bring the effort past the goalpost (albeit at a delay after Biolante's second defeat.) GvsBio is far from my favorite Heisei entry, for a few reasons, but I appreciate the attempt at differences there.

      @omniviewer2115  6 лет назад +2

      Very interesting analyses. Wish I'd thought of them for the video, but then again, it's already long enough.
      Indeed, Godzilla vs Hedorah/the Smog Monster can be viewed as a great argument of Man needing God to achieve full victory, or if you prefer, Man needing Nature to undo the damage inflicted on Nature by Man. Son of Godzilla also can be a counter-argument, though it still has the "science run amok" angle in how Man initially makes things worse with his innovations (the weather machine turning the Kamacuras - who were already man-sized - into giants). G84 also teeters on the line, since there are several lines of dialogue - especially in the original edit - which state Godzilla can never die, and that he is a sort of divine retribution that humanity deserves on a certain level.
      One could actually look at Godzilla's Revenge in a similar anti-humanist light by showing us a child learning lessons not from Man, but from the Monsters he looks up (literally and metaphorically). Man has constantly let the poor boy down at best and bullied him at worst, but Godzilla is seen as infallible and all-powerful. It is through this omnipotent being and his son that the boy learns the most valuable lessons in his life. Perhaps this movie presents Godzilla at his most godlike by showing him through the eyes of a child. Indeed, having childlike faith comes straight from the Bible.
      ...Huh. I just indirectly compared Minilla/Minya to Jesus Christ in that paragraph. I feel weird now.

    • @jasonpratt5126
      @jasonpratt5126 6 лет назад

      Eh, true, G84 teeters due to the attitude of the scientist who manages to manage Godzilla -- but he does manage to manage him, and not in a self-defeating way (unlike Serizawa). This could lead into an interesting segue into GvB being more of a course correction for the series, passing through the Smog Monster territory: the human plans eventually work, but needs non-human natural/divine cooperation for the final victory. (Heck, if it wasn't for those meddling futurian humans, G would seem to have been permanently nixed by the humans.)

      Now that I think of it, the guy who did the commentary on the recent collector's edition of G's Revenge would surely agree with and appreciate your take on that film's relation to humanism! -- I occasionally wonder if I should be sorry I got rid of that particular disc from the collection after watching it for completionist sake.

    "Gamera is the rule." Don't be so dismissive of the turtle. After all, at least 7 of his movies are genuinely good, especially the three made in the 1990's, and the first three made in the 1960's, and that odd one made in 2006. And Gamera vs. Barugon (1966) is easily on par with the best Godzilla films of the 1960's as well.

    Dunno if showing defiance when you are utterly screwed can count as "humanism" or not. Technically it's what all of the unleashing of armies and other crazy shit in kaiju films is, and some films show that it was a stupid decision (guess the "Godzilla" Anime trilogy fits.... if you feel like giving that any higher meaning. Maybe the Monsterverse fits better).
    Godzilla 1998 is a definite attempt at applying humanism to a Goji film, pure and unadulterated and straight as an arrow... Is it any wonder everybody, even Toho, considers it sacrilege to the franchise?

    Job 41
    The Message
    I Run This Universe
    41 1-11 “Or can you pull in the sea beast, Leviathan, with a fly rod
    and stuff him in your creel?
    Can you lasso him with a rope,
    or snag him with an anchor?
    Will he beg you over and over for mercy,
    or flatter you with flowery speech?
    Will he apply for a job with you
    to run errands and serve you the rest of your life?
    Will you play with him as if he were a pet goldfish?
    Will you make him the mascot of the neighborhood children?
    Will you put him on display in the market
    and have shoppers haggle over the price?
    Could you shoot him full of arrows like a pin cushion,
    or drive harpoons into his huge head?
    If you so much as lay a hand on him,
    you won’t live to tell the story.
    What hope would you have with such a creature?
    Why, one look at him would do you in!
    If you can’t hold your own against his glowering visage,
    how, then, do you expect to stand up to me?
    Who could confront me and get by with it?
    I’m in charge of all this-I run this universe!
    12-17 “But I’ve more to say about Leviathan, the sea beast,
    his enormous bulk, his beautiful shape.
    Who would even dream of piercing that tough skin
    or putting those jaws into bit and bridle?
    And who would dare knock at the door of his mouth
    filled with row upon row of fierce teeth?
    His pride is invincible;
    nothing can make a dent in that pride.
    Nothing can get through that proud skin-
    impervious to weapons and weather,
    The thickest and toughest of hides,
    impenetrable!
    18-34 “He snorts and the world lights up with fire,
    he blinks and the dawn breaks.
    Comets pour out of his mouth,
    fireworks arc and branch.
    Smoke erupts from his nostrils
    like steam from a boiling pot.
    He blows and fires blaze;
    flames of fire stream from his mouth.
    All muscle he is-sheer and seamless muscle.
    To meet him is to dance with death.
    Sinewy and lithe,
    there’s not a soft spot in his entire body-
    As tough inside as out,
    rock-hard, invulnerable.
    Even angels run for cover when he surfaces,
    cowering before his tail-thrashing turbulence.
    Javelins bounce harmlessly off his hide,
    harpoons ricochet wildly.
    Iron bars are so much straw to him,
    bronze weapons beneath notice.
    Arrows don’t even make him blink;
    bullets make no more impression than raindrops.
    A battle ax is nothing but a splinter of kindling;
    he treats a brandished harpoon as a joke.
    His belly is armor-plated, inexorable-
    unstoppable as a barge.
    He roils deep ocean the way you’d boil water,
    he whips the sea like you’d whip an egg into batter.
    With a luminous trail stretching out behind him,
    you might think Ocean had grown a gray beard!
    There’s nothing on this earth quite like him,
    not an ounce of fear in that creature!
    He surveys all the high and mighty-
    king of the ocean, king of the deep!”

    I find your comparison with the Transformers franchise a bit of a weak comparison for humanism. The humans are the autobot's allies, who were a resistance group already on the verge of defeat until they got to Earth. While this is a different continuity than the movies, it was to the point the Decepticon's decedents tried to go to prehistoric earth to kill humans off so they would not interfere in the war. Even in the first movie and in must Transformers stories, it is made to be clear humanity can't win without the Autobots, even if now and then a human helps out in a critical way. The ending with Sam was just bad writing though. Good video!

    I get this. I wrote a paper on Godzilla for film class at University Of New Orleans way back in 1979. I might have been among the first to get an A on a dissertation of the true meaning of the 1954 original long before the modern age of everyone knowing the metaphor. But yet I think sometimes the Godzilla fans protest too much. Notice no one has to persuade anyone that Dr. Strangelove, The Third Man, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, or The Thin Man or great movies. I even defend snobbery as there are high standards to be respected and some Godzilla films aren’t fun, rather they stink like the inside of my ass. That can’t be wished away by long winded RUclips rants. The reason Godzilla movies were dismissed was because of Godzilla movies like Godzilla Vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs Gigan or Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster in which the potential was wasted. Not snobbery. Very few Godzilla fans like to face that fact.
