    For the longest time I watched u guys tear out and reframe windows and I would think..”that looks easy” but wouldn’t try it. Then I finally took a deep breath and did it. With ur videos running for guidance I have to admit that while it was work it was pretty easy. Great teachers and I love the confidence it gives. Nice job on that window by the way.

      I did try doing this on my old place bc, at the time, I did not have 2 pennies to rub together. These things did not have a vapor barrier on the outside, and the aluminum siding sweats

    i really cant understand when people say why put money into the mobile home , its wasting money??, surely repairing old wood etc, is better than knocking the whole mobile home down, its saving you money in end as your not buying every thing from scratch, please some one explain to me why people always say knock it down. any ways guys awesome job as always hope you all well have great Christmas if you celebrate hugsx

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  Год назад +8

      Definitely. Starting over from scratch comes with a lot of extra costs and complications. I think some people are just afraid to invest in a mobile home. And some people just don't have the vision to see the end result. We look at this home and feel inspired.

    This will be wonderful when finished. When we bought our "as is" mobile home we quickly closed up or replace the jalousie windows in an end room. They wouldn't even close completely, and that just wasn't good for the heating/cooling bill! We got vinyl double paned, and then over the next couple of years replaced more, including ones in the main living area. What a HUGE difference in our bills, comfort level, and lack of outside noise! Soon we'll hit our 10th anniversary of buying it, and we're still very happy. However, you've taught us a lot, and if it comes time to redo some things, I'm sure we will be remembering how to do some things a lot better.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  Год назад +1

    I redid the seals of my windows and the corners in 2018 I believe. Yes butyl tape on the windows is best. With mine bc of the orientation of the aluminum and the pattern some areas I had to double up butyl tape. I think used ProFlex RV sealant on top of that, then I primed and painted the exterior, including on top of any caulk. It has held up great in all the MT weather I’ve been in it. The corners I used Dicor Corner Seal Tape, then Butyl Tape. Then caulked the edges of the trim and over every screw head too! I wanted to make extra sure that I wouldn’t have to deal with rot again!

    The new windows are lovely! Great color choice. They will definitely be a nice ROI. If I didn't live in an area prone to tornadoes I would consider a portable/mobile office building as a creative space on my property. It's wired, usually has a halfbath and I could add a heat-pump. Of course then I recall Ashley and Doug's gazebos and how that would add a nice outdoor sitting area. So many great ideas start with this channel!

    In reference to your framing. People need to think about it this way. It’s a “mobile” home. Meaning it’s got to be built a certain way so it can travel down the road in coordinates with DOT regulations. Regardless if it never goes down the road again. Yes I would have probably over frame it. And some say. What about tiny homes. The problem with many of those, they are not up to the DOT rules. I know because a friend of mine. (That’s been on cable tv) Had to close his business because of it. It has to do wight and the flexibility of the “mobile” home/ “trailer.” Keep up the great work!!!

    This has been so interesting to watch, My first home I actually owned years ago was a mobile home. We lived in there with my oldest. I so appreciate the little things that you do. That can benefit water or condensation on the window. We live in Minnesota. And yes, we battled condensation on our windows. When I lived in my mobile home. It originally had been a model home There was a family that owned it before. It was 14 by 68. It was 3 bedrooms and our laundry room was in the bathroom. I have family members that raised 4 children in their mobile home single wide. In fact, that family member grew up in a mobile home where they took 2 mobile homes side by side and put a hallway between and they raised 8 children in it. But I was showing my oldest today since he was the one that lived in the mobile home when he was really young, He watched you put in the window and see the sides were just tin and insulation. Doug, you and Ashley, what you do again amazes me. I'm watching this just a few days before Christmas. So I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. I'm not sure how you celebrate it. But I just want to say you're very much appreciated. And we rally with you every step that you do. Your home is absolutely beautiful.❤

      I’m in America and we build with bricks and concrete too. We also build with material that can be mass produced in big warehouses and move to the customers land already build. It makes it affordable for people to afford.

      I've seen mobile homes in Ireland when I was looking at Google Street View. Where in Europe are you referring to, because plenty of homes in Europe aren't built out of bricks and concrete. Northern European areas build a lot of their structures with wood framing. Areas that have a lot of timber use lumber, while places that lack trees tend to use bricks. It's smart to use natural materials that exist in an area. But also, we have a wide variety of homes in America to choose from. Driving down my road there is a mix of brick homes and wood homes.

      Mobile homes are ok unless you live where tornadoes are common. They need upkeep like all homes. Have you saw recent prices? Insane. A new mobile home this size would start around $75,000. and go up. My neighbors just bought a 16×80 and paid $95,000😮
