Yall have no idea how much I appreciate watching the new episodes and then immediately being able to come watch your reaction
They did some pretty cool stuff with this episode. Sure there were no fight scenes or anything, but it's more about suspense. This whole time you know that they're gonna get trapped, but you don't know for how long or what the consequences will be. And then to find out that they've literally failed their quest and the gods are going to war....damn.
Fun fact, nearly everything that happened in the Lotus Casino was new for the tv show. In the books, they enter it simply because they're tired and need somewhere to rest without realizing what it is. They get stuck there for several days and only make it out because Percy happens to have a conversation with someone who thinks it's 1977. He realizes they're in some sort of time warp and yanks his friends out of there. They use the credit cards the casino gives out for gaming (to trap people with infinite funds for entertainment) to hail a cab that takes them to Santa Monica. No Augustus and no Hermes. We don't get to meet Hermes til book two, and don't get information on Luke's childhood until later in the series. So all in all, they added a lot of substance to this episode. I like it!

I really like the Hermes and Augustus additions. I feel like they are setting the long storyline really well with stuff like that
@@pinsandneedles3 I agree. And the stuff with Hermes is a great way to add in important exposition without it feeling dry or boring. There are serious stakes in that conversation, and all three characters bring so much emotion to the scene. It's far superior that if they just casually dropped the information at some point to get it over with.
Important context, minors are allowed in Vegas casinos , just no drinking or gambling. No one checks for age unless you try to do one of those. Plus Hermes runs the lotus in the context of the show so, doesn’t matter anyway.
Santa Monica, California is all the way across the U.S. from Montauk, New York! It's about a 2,900-mile (4,667km) drive and almost a 2 day journey (no stopping).
