I own the 2016 Tacoma Off-Road. I love my truck. I thought about upgrading to the TRD Pro when it was first released, but I just can't get past the $10k+ price jump from an Off-Road to a Pro. For me, the upgrades are not worth the price hike.
Cavalry Blue, the best color yet for me
how about more horsepower, better gas mileage, power seats, heated rear seats, cooled seats, heated steering wheel, rear disc brakes, and less plastic in the interior for 50K. Feels like I'm watching a video review for a 2008 model
Brooktrout Angler it’s a truck. Not a luxury pt cruiser.
This is what I tell people when I start buying different brands of truck year after year and not Toyota. Everyone goes "oh, The Tacoma is reliable!" Well you can get alot more truck with more features for the same price these days. Toyota really needs to step it up and drop hiding behind it's name.
@@stephenrichards4171 this is an off roading truck not an ipad screened limited ram, its meant to get the job done and get it done well and thats what it does
@Randy Jackson the gas mileage is actually good for a truck, v8s dont get better gas milage unless its a diesel and then it costs more, and its the most off road capable stock truck there is. they put the plastic in it because they last. if you want crazy good gas mileage get a Prius
So true. I had my heart set on a 2019, but now I'm considering the ram 1500 which has all the bells and whistles for much the same price.
Good video. However, I wouldn't choose either one. I think TRD Off-Road is the best way to go. Fully loaded Off-Road will have most of those features (except FOX shocks, fake scoop and skid plate). But you'll be saving at least $5K or at some places even more than that.
thats what I did added icon suspension and 33s and pro grill and i love it. I got mine august 2016 I got 45k on it . I added the lift after the first 1000 miles.
How sick would it be if you lower the seats AND the divider that separates the interior from the truck bed?
Just bought a 2019 Taco TRD in Keene, NH. Cement. I love it!!!!
Love the TRD Pro, hate the price tag. Save Thousands, and buy the TRD Off Road instead.
BadCow I’d get the Off Road I think
I actually bought the first 3rd Gen Tacoma TRD Off Road 4X4 that my dealership got in back in Sept of 2015, it's a 2016 model. It has everything the PRO has with the exception of Leather, Exhaust Tip, and the Fox TRD shocks and springs. I'm not a big fan of leather seats anyway so that works for me. Sure the Fox Shocks and TRD Tuned springs are badass, but I don't NEED them. 99% of my driving is on the road, as is for most, even though they won't admit it. I like saving money, therefore I will never pay that much for a TRD Pro.
That's pretty awesome. I'm a huge fan of the Off Road. And truck customization is a huge part of our business here! I love seeing how people pimp out their trucks! I should do a video about that...jeff
Best thing about my 2016 TRD Off Road is that it's paid for.
Those are not leather seats, pleather! Still no power seats or led head lights. Way over priced, come on Toyota!
Thank you for explaining the new 2019 Toyota Tamcoa TRD Pro, I have the vodo blue , wish the Dealer would use your videos to explain the the new Toyota Tamcoa TRD models before purchasing one
They should of stuck with BF Goodrich tires. They look so much better on the Tacomas.
The #1 area of trucks brought up on my channel is color. The #2 area brought up is tires haha. It's a BIG deal! Thanks for watching...jeff
they did this for mpg on paper to compete with the zr2.
I have a trd pro and all I did was add 16 inch te37's with 285/75/16 ko2's and it's a bad ass truck. Manual transmission too.
These were getting a mark up from $10,000 up to $20,000 over MSRP here in SoCal. For that price the 2017s and 2018s should have come with the JBLs and sunroof. A friend from a dealer said I could order a brand new tacoma offroad with the wheels, skid plates, fox shocks and fog lights for $43,000 from the plant. I'll wait until these get old.
I was considering this truck but the shear over priced cost for this truck for the minimal features you get is laughable. The truck is already hard to get from dealerships and in Canada it cost 56k before taxes for a truck that doesn't even have rear disk brakes!
Where do you live in Canada? I've only been to Toronto and Ontario, so I really haven't explored it fully enough. I read that the truck segment is the fastest increasing priced in the entire car business. That's scary across all brands! Jeff
@@Toyotajeff Vancouver! I mean the only real competition for the Tacoma pro would be Colorado zr2. If and when the Ranger comes to North America they will be a direct competitor to the Tacoma.
Yes maybe over priced, but I would guess you have never owned a Toyota before. Toyota is known for reliability, and unfortunately makes them slower on the uptake for the latest tech, but that’s why they have a huge following, and that’s why the Tacoma has the highest resale value of any vehicle on the road. That being said, my wife’s 2009 Venza had HID headlights, and 10 years later, Toyota is putting halogen headlights in a 50k truck. They do need to up there game a bit. If you want something that will last, buy a Toyota, if you want a high tech vehicle, and be stuck on the side of the road, buy a Chevy. Read the reviews on both, I will take the reliability any day of the week.
@kiki the gerbil agreed! The financing on these trucks is terrible! That's one thing but to not even have rear disk brakes on a vehicle in 2019 is laughable. The overall package you get with the truck is not worth it. Toyota is stuck in their own ways and are not keeping up with the joneses
Nabil P yes I agree about the interest rates. I guess there is so much demand they don’t have to worry about that. Maybe consider getting a upgraded TRD off road, you will save quite a bit of money compared to the Pro. And as far as rear drum brakes, drive the truck, you wouldn’t even know the difference, plus cheaper to service, and try to bury you wheels in sand, and see what happens to your calipers, in a disc brake setup. Grind, crunch, grind. Drums are much more protected, and 70 % of your breaking is done with the front brakes.
Preferences are “this or that”...
Let’s be thankful that we are blessed enough to drive up a mountain after breakfast, and help our friends and family move to an apartment by dinner.
🙌🏻
I would take the color of the 2018 but the features and performance of the 2019
Best Of Toyota Would be nice if they offered both blues in the 19
There is no performance differences though?!?
@@bradgt5130 he ment the crapy safty features that handicaps you when OFF Roading. I dont like them.
Bradley Beyer - negative sir, the voo doo blue color adds 20 hp. Rigid tech LED fogs add 5 hp. It’s science.
I love the calvery blue but like the better speakers in the 19 dont really care about moonroof Gas mileage a little dissappointing being my 99 dodge 2500 cummin gets like 24mpg when not towing. Why are all the lights not led? I had 3 toyotas n not anything bad to say about them I loved mine But for same price can buy a Nissan w/a cummins??
Hey April! I wish it came with LED's...would have completed the whole thing. That's awesome you're getting that mpg on your 99! Thanks for watching and please stick with my channel .. jeff
Voodoo blue for sure! That color with the black accents just pops!!
Voodoo is fun to say too haha.....you're right it pops! jeff
Nice Video, I have been waiting for this side by side comparison video with both blues. I would have to choose the Voodoo Blue, due to the FJ Tribute & Heritage .
irshgaming it seemed only right to compare the 2! At first I wasn’t sure about the Voodoo Blue and now I cannot take my eyes off it ha ha
@toyotajeff in Raleigh, I felt the same ever since Voodoo Blue was on the FJ. Your comparison video is the best I have seen so far on RUclips. I can’t wait to pick up my 2019 Pro Voodoo next week from my dealer. Cheers.
Cavalry blue was also an fj color
I’ll take my girl the 2021 Tacoma trd pro lunar rock 🔥
Tacoma’s are awesome at any trim model
I like the 2019 color is great and specialty the moonroof ! Great video man thanks
2019 with the calvary blue
wait so the 2018 Model didn't have a tweeter on the dash, 6x9 on the front door and a 6.5 in the rear door?
I wouldn’t pay that much for a full sized truck.
Prices need corrected by 15k-20k on all trucks
Loved the Tundra but hated the 14mpg combined...wisely traded it in.
When the Tundras get 20+combined mpg or the Tacoma’s get 25mpg combined, I would consider a used one after letting the other guy take the 30% hit after 2 years. Lol
Dude....not going to be a 30% hit in 2 years. That's the appeal of Toyota
Why would trucks cost as much as little family cars? It cost more than that to build a truck, specially ones with bells and whistles and specially off-road equipment.
@@DragonKnightX12 Bringing the prices down to 33k-45k is well above "little family cars" that sell for 20-30k. Looks like you haven't noticed that trucks have gotten stupid expensive.
ExileXCross Pretty sure he said bring them down to 15k-20k, not 33k-45k.
Looks like you didn’t read the first comment.
Everything has gotten more expensive, the market demands more and more.
It’s not just Trucks, look at the prices of Muscle cars, Cuvs/SUVs, and large sedans.
ExileXCross I understand the trucks of yesterday were affordable work vehicles. But that changed a while ago, today the pickup has pretty much replaced SUVs and Muscle Cars.
The new Ram 1500 is the ultimate example of that.
Exhaust tip is not black chrome, it's black powdercoat.
Glad he said cavalry correctly instead of Calvary.
Bill P haha me too! It’s been a tongue twister for me! Jeff
Are the Fox suspension the same on both? Or did Toyota change them for 2019? Can you take a look when you get the chance.
I'll check it out. I think they are the same though. Thanks for suggesting it...jeff
The 2019 is missing the storage cubbie on the left side of the bed, wonder why they eliminated that.
How weird
That 2019 voodoo blue looks way better. It just makes the curves in the design more defined.
I’m thinking of getting the sr5 just because it seems you don’t get much more for the price.
Toyota quality & that Voodoo Blue, a winning combination!
New subscriber here to your channel as of late last wk. Great walkthrough of features and specs and I'm liking what I'm seeing on your channel. I'm even watching your older vids. Keep up your great stuff!!
Cuong Vu Thank you so much for the compliment and for joining the channel. Feel free to suggest any video ideas you want to see and I always try to accommodate...jeff
A few of those features look practical but I had a lot of that on my rav 4 I traded. Most of it is just a pain in the ass.
2019 voo doo blue love the shine
Philip Kapsis awesome have a great week! Jeff
Looks like trash box color~kkk😂
Love that they added some better features finally but 47k is steep. Great video though, very informative!
Ha. I'll stick with my Raptor..
you gonna stick with your raptor when it breaks down too?
sergio morales ha, coming from the guy w the inferior truck. Sorry bud, results don’t lie. Tests proven. And my Raptor is hella reliable.
2019 voodoo Blue!
Guess what, they are exactly the same 😅😅
Not "exactly" but I know what you mean. It's similar to what the Camry did for '19. They added about 5 new things for '19 but it's basically the same car exterior-wise. jeff
And yet it is still a better offroad vehicle than GMC, Jeep, ect, ect!🤑
@@Toyotajeff Can you tell me that what are those 5 things?
@@Toyotajeff kindly tell me that! as much as possible..
Fake Finder hey Fake! You mean 5 changes to the 2019 Tacoma PRO right?
I have a 17 red pro in red and love it. I would like to get another pro but it has to be red.
Recently got that engine ticking on my 2017 and was worried. Hearing it on a brand new 2019 guess its normal...
I like the Voodoo Blue more. But the other is nice. I want people to know when I arrive and the Voodoo says just that. Great video dude!
Just wondering is the dessert air intake an option? I thought it comes with the TRD Pro package.
*Desert I live in NJ and I’m looking for a TRO Pro with the Air Intake there isn’t many around me but the one I looked at they were asking for 63k.
Apparantly Toyota doesn't want you to take the truck through an automatic car wash with the desert air intake installed.
I enjoyed your review 👍. Kinda strange no powered seats.
Calvary blue all day son.
Can’t believe it the pro 18 doesn’t have the premium JBL audio. My 2016 Tacoma sport has the JBL audio and that’s below the TRD pro.
Magnetic gray, that's the best color
I like your review style. Straight to the point!
I like the 2018 blue
Is it possible if I purchase a 2019 could I order it with the calvary blue?
Can I get ventilated seats and HID/LED headlights? Or do I have to talk to Toyota?
Great vid. Is this also available in 6MT with moonroof?
Don't care much for the sunroof. I actually prefer not to have one. One less thing to go bad. only upgrade I see is the sound system. I like the cavalry blue better.
Does the 19 have factory installed remote engine starting
I'll stick wit my 2009 TRD access cab with Billstien 5100's & Dever leaves in the rear!!
It bothers me more than it should...but what's up with removing the extra built-in storage box in the bed of the 2019??? @toyota
can you do a 2017 vs 2019 TRD Pro?
You forgot about the 8 inch subwoofer in the back
Sure do like the Voodoo Blue and the moon roof on the the 2019.
Does it come with keyless entry and start?
What is exactly different from the 2018 vs the 2019?
I prefer the cavalry blue! Hands down.
Does it have CarPlay?
Ronin4375 no sorry Tacoma doesn’t have CarPlay yet...jeff
you should change your video title to 2019 vs 2018 comparison that turns into a 2019 sales pitch...
what happened to comparing them after the first couple minutes???
Isnt there a subwoofer behind the rear seats?
@@flounder Yea thats what i thought. I have a 2017 Tacoma Limited, fully loaded, and i remember seeing it. By the way, does the 2019 Limited not come with the bed cover and outlet?
Both are beautiful, but i personally like the calvary blue but i would like to see calvary blue on thd 2019 the bomb
Where did you get that TRD shirt from?
G-sco804 we have them at my dealership. I bought it in our parts dept. we have many styles.
finally no more silver trim, or orange dash lights
I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD 4x4 LEMON with 10,500 miles. Starting off on a grade it clicks like a spindle then goes bang bang bang steel crashing together sound. Horrible, whole truck shakes. Anyone out there experience this? Mechanic said its traction control. Now they say its hill assist. TOYOTA WILL NOT WARRANTY> They say its normal operation. Locked up trying to get onto a busy thoroughfare. Had to back into the parking lot I came out of. Scary Scary. I bought this last truck I am a senior. It is a big big mistake. Any advise ? Lemon Law Lawyer here in Oklahoma says I need to get it in 2 more times on the same issue but Since Toyota says its "normal operation" Dealerships wont service it. Big Scam. Now they say contact the attorney general. You want this headache? By the way the Tacoma's wont tow at all at all even at half it's tow rating. Constant struggling shifting out on highway to maintain speeds even when not towing. Just letting you know these Toyota Tacoma's aren't all they are cracked up to be. Also the customer service people are arrogant and rude. Had service lied to me about reproducing the issue no problems found. Service guy lied, Toyota Dealership , Ardmore Oklahome....Kicking myself for trading in my 2014 Chev 4x4...
2019. I don't like how DFW has a 5k or more up charge on these vehicles.
No LED headlights? WTF
Yo Jeff great job on the TRD Pro Taco review! Give me some feeedback on my TRD PRO Tundra “what’s new” video! Have fun at JBL fest!
Why do they continue to put those silly Goodyear "Kevlar" tires on these things?
Does the toyota still have drum brakes?
The 2018 Calvary Blue looks WAY better than the 2019 VooDoo Blue.
I'm going to trade my 17 Tacoma OR for a 2020 when they come out.
How about FRAME'S that won't rot out !!! 3 generation of frames rusting out, how about fixing THAT !!!
Best review I’ve seen.
You should do a 2018 vs 2019 off road also
2019 Voodoo Blue
2018 cavalry blue
Good call Heather! Thanks so much for watching and I hope you subscribe and become a regular part of my channel! Jeff
So, nothing regarding performance has changed, got it.
The price killed it for me.
Fuck that 47k !
I got my limited tundra 2018 for 43k
Can you believe the price of about all trucks now across all brands!?! That part blows my mind! On a side note, the Tundra Limited is pretty badass! jeff
For that price you could at least add about 10 or 15 different colors.
I like 2018 TRD exterior color
I like 2019 TRD interior options of new update
2019 for me!
Does it have rear cross traffic alert?
Great question! Yes it definitely does have rear cross traffic alert! This safety feature is linked/grouped together with the blind spot monitor every time. Thanks for being part of my channel....jeff
Dude, its an off road vehicle... not a fucking toyota sienna. Go get a mini van for those features.
Very informative video!
I think for the money the truck should have a front locking diff. And let the moon roof be optional yeeh.
very useful, thanks!
I'll keep my manual 2017 that came in cement
What dosen't your trd pro have the fake snorkel
cruz griffin #fakesnorkel....haha it is optional on the truck. I don’t see why I would get one if I was buying one. I don’t think it looks good on the truck but to each their own.
@@Toyotajeff oh ok that makes sense. I agree the voodoo blue one you guys have his perfect! I appreciate the reply man love your channel.
Thanks a lot Cruz! I'm glad you're enjoying it. The channel has gotten much more popular in the past 6 months, which I'm thrilled about. I'm looking for creative ways to keep making it more interesting and entertaining....you'd be surprised to know how many of these video ideas come from my viewers :) Jeff
“Standard bed liner...” ugh.. it’s a composite bed. There is no liner.
Anybody know if the Ford Ranger Raptor is coming to the US?
not coming
You can get most of that stuff from factory on the 18. Honestly there are very few differences in the 18 and 19. Most changes (like the desert air intake) are additions.
Check your info... some of the stuff you are referencing as (standard) isn't....
Rubber floor mats are not standard.
Those are full leather seats not leather trimmed.
(I'm just correcting as the video goes)
Cell phones must be QI enabled.
I hope your not in Toyota sales cause you need to get back on Eshowroom and relearn this stuff.
Constructive criticism. Watch KC Nicks!
Colton Kutchmark Hey Colton! Thanks for the tough love constructive criticism. It’s appreciated. Yes I’ve been in Toyota sales for almost 13 years. Obviously you’re with Toyota as you know the eShowroom haha. I noticed I missed a few things in this one. It’s clear to me the desert air intake is optional and I thought I visually showed it in the video. I missed saying it though. I can always improve...thanks again and I hope you keep watching! Jeff
foreshadowinggg LOLLL
hahaha exactly! thanks for being part of my channel! jeff...I'm in north carolina...where do you live?
$47k comes with the same good for one year rubbers as my off-road model 😂
Badass I have the 17 cement grey Trd pro
I want one this Xmas
Why would they tell this dude to do a review over a TRD Off-Road built truck when he doesn’t know what a Locking Rear Differential actually does 😂😂
Hey Corbin thanks for weighing in! I appreciate you being part of my channel. The locking rear differential locks both wheels on the same axle so they move at the same speed. It helps when one of the wheels is slipping or stuck so you get better traction. Please feel free to add more to this, as a lot of truck enthusiasts know quite a bit more than I do about trucks! Did I say it wrong in the video? If so, I'm not surprised haha....I step over my words all the time. Thanks again for watching! Jeff
and I run my own channel....I get my video ideas either from myself or a lot of ideas I get from my viewers and subscribers. I love when people suggest new video ideas! Jeff
Basically what you said in the video is they turn at a constant speed and yes in your correction in your reply you are correct
Yeah I get that was awkward haha...sorry about that. I meant both wheels turn at the same constant speed as each other...I wish I would have said it the proper way! I appreciate you being part of the channel! Have a terrific week! Jeff
You too bud! Sorry if I came out a little egressive or attacking your channel I legitimately enjoyed your review and I’d enjoy watching more content of yours and you have a good week as well
No Led Headlights!!! Too expensive without the Led Headlights!!! 👎!!! Boo!!!
There was no 18
I’m fine without LED headlights. But your right. It’s too expensive in general.
No Apple Car play or Android auto, also cannot raise or lower the drivers seat for height adjustment!
Spend extra 200 to upgrade all bulbs to LED. What it really needs is more powerful engine/transmission package that would be as reliable. Also rear disk brakes, drum brakes in 2019 dont cut it.
60$ can and I installed them myself in 10 minutes.. just buy led bulbs
Hate the new color. They should've kept the 2018 color. Best looking Tacoma ever made
