Giveit2mehRAW the Wranglers may not be up to par with the tacos , but the Jeep TJs are. I am desperately trying to find one for my wife that hasn't been modded all to hell, And has relatively low kilometers. And I can't find one for under 10k Canadian. And keep in mind some of the ones we looked at are 2000 - 1997 model year. It's crazy!
I went to the dealership for a tacoma and drove away with a tundra. I just fell in love with the power and sound of the V8 and the space and comfort of it.
I’ve always liked and needed full size trucks ( to haul my camping trailer). A tacoma seemed practical at the time for off road, looks and fuel efficiency although that never worried me to much. So, I can pay a lot more and live with a poorer fuel economy. Does that make sense now.?
@@GhostOfAMachine they do it so you don't stress the same muscle groups everyday, and allow other muscle groups to be worked out. If they held the same position every day for the rest of their life it'd lead to long term health risks, and increase in injury.
@Big Smoke The 00-06 Tundra is closer to the Tacoma size but with a V8, I have 2 of them. An 02 access cab and an 05 double cab. Amazing trucks with the best of both worlds!
I’d rather have the v6 better fuel efficiency and the Tacoma is a truck version of the four runner so giving it a v8 wouldn’t be right in a four runner
@@georgea.9684 at first I wondered how so many people afforded them. That would be the only catch, if they had a V8 they would be too expensive to buy.
The only two trucks I'd buy. Proven reliable and great resale. Yea the tundra needs some refreshing, but it's still a great truck. How can you mess with several examples of them going over 800k miles, one even hitting a million
Nobody ever sees an odometer of 800k you believe these fabricated stories? I work on cars for a living and have never seen a Toyota over 300k miles..... FAIL
@@toddbob55 tfl truck has posted a video on one of many Million Mile Tundra's, and there is a page on instagram dedicated to high mileage toyota's. Not a FAIL. The only FAILED comment here is yours.
@@toddbob55 Go to the Tundra forum and check out the high miles thread, many many work Tundras have over 500K miles, this guy in particular has 850K+ and counting, he has the 5.7 and drives like 500 miles a day for work c1.staticflickr.com/5/4873/45937520411_ff0e816bc8_b.jpg I have a Tundra with the 5.7, while only at 180K miles right now, the only thing ive done was replaced a leaky water pump and tune up. Truck drives like a brand new truck.
I know a guy in central Fl that repairs boilers for a living he services our in our plant. Owns a T100 with 730,000 miles on it I did not believe it Either until I saw the odometer for myself. He bought it new always changed the oil at 5k went through 2 transmissions... straight up guy known him for years... no BS
I am struggling to choose between the both. I like the look, maintenance cost and in city commute practicality of Tacoma more. But Tundra wins in terms of comfort and size. I am 6 foot over 300 lbs and hate when passengers or myself are cramped inside sardines in a can. Like Tacoma but I guess Tundra is a better purchase because if it is not comfortable inside, no way you gonna enjoy driving it. What is your insight? Can you suggest?
Stop at a Transmission shop and ask them what they see the most and the least, I did this 2 months ago. Guys told me they had 5 newer Chevy's in last week and that the Fords & Chryslers were no better. When I asked them what they see the least both of them said in unison, Toyota. TRUE STORY !!!
consumer reports do rate the tundra as the most reliable, but asking a transmission shop that services all makes is a bad way to judge if the question is what you see more. the big 3 sell over 500k of their half tons each year. Toyota barely breaks over 100k a year in sales for the tundra. Obviously, independent repair shops will see less tundras than other half tons that outsell it 5 to 1
@@BenJamonGaming it's out of desperation, they give the best fleet deals. Toyota doesn't have to. Simple as that. So, as for sales, doesn't mean shit, and I've drove all of them. Toyota is the best!
I have had and love Toyota trucks, but there are many times more Chevy's and Fords on the road, so it isn't surprising that there are more of them in the shop for any given repair.
You will spend more in gas but you will buy one Tundra as opposed to 3 Fords over the same time frame. You'll come out ahead when you don't have to buy a new truck every 5 years.
Spare parts I was about to say the same thing. If you don’t mind having the latest and greatest it will last you 500k miles easy with hardly any maintenance
Mike dice...the toyota Tacoma trd sport has a ect button ( electronic controlled transmission) which lets the rpm's go for longer giving better response and faster speed!!!
Considering its the same size that the 1st generation tundra was, it should have a V8 option...especially for the ridiculous price they have on those Tacomas, which is why I bought the Tundra, I wanted the 5.7L V8, the Tacoma doesn't have a V8, and the Tundra was only $2k more than a Tacoma...hmm yeah I'll buy the full size over whatever the hell that Tacoma is supposed to be.
I agree it needs a 4.6 option. What baffles me is, they put a v6 in the Camry with over 300 horsepower but they can't put a more powerful motor in the Tacoma? Most honest reviews of the tacoma talk about how lethargic the motor feels when compared with the other trucks in its class.
I bought my 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport the day it arrived at the dealership. I was actually considering buying the 2018 Tundra TRD Sport. What really sealed the deal was the technology and features. I wish Toyota would update the Tundras to be more in line with their competitors. I LOVE my Tacoma. We took a long trip over to Estes Park and the truck was amazing! Love the video guys!
"Tundra is strong enough to tow space shuttle. Tundra went 1 million miles on one single engine without being rebuild. Tundra seat fabric didn't even worn-out after 1 million miles. Tundra frame lasted 1 million miles. Tundra cab corners lasted one million miles. Tundra exhaust manifold bolts lasted 1 million miles. Tundra engine lasted 1 million miles without blowing spark plugs. Tundra is the only million miles gas truck without problems. Too many people focus on looks and forget that looks are deceiving. Too many people call reliability is outdated, and favor issues as advanced technology. I know truth hurts, but it's reality."
repairvehicle we all know the tundra didn’t really “tow” the space shuttle. The Tundra did hit 1 million miles but it wasn’t the 5.7. The Tundra is reliable but it loves gas.
Jason , what V8 doesn't love gas? There is plenty of videos on RUclips about tundra towing space shuttle. There's plenty of witnesses who were there also.
Good to see that Toyota advertising worked so well on you! Tacoma "laminated" frame...... Was that a 1 million mile truck? Ha ha ha! A few friends got burned on that one. They would beat me if I told them they should buy a Toyota...... You keep 'em
Dan F , I was not talking about Tacoma, read my comment again. Tacoma is number one selling compact truck now and always will be. It's number one for a reason, people appreciate quality, reliability, resale value and free frame replacements.
Ceaser I highly doubt the average height is 5’10 . Living in New York , I can tell you average height for a man here is seriously 5’6-5’8 absolute max . America’s average is probably 5’7 for a man .
Charles Farley don't forget to turn off the traction control as well because if the tundra spins a little, the throttle management will kick in, it will shift as the engine backs off, and you will be in a higher gear when the throttle comes back on
I bought a used 2008 limited 5.7l tundra in Feb 2019 with 113k miles on it. ...now as of today it has 225kmiles. .drove to North Dakota mountain highways, Arizona I-10. Utah highway 6west ( with payload upto 1350lb on bed truck) . Still runs smooth. ...I try to get the oil change done once it hits 5kmiles and always add mystery marvel ( both ; to oil and fuel tank) .... Congrats on your great purchase 👍
Pure laziness. Same reason manual transmissions are gone, and everything has electric windows, door locks, mirrors, 20 way adjustable seats, etc. People here in the US are just pure lazy.
William Todd I’m sure you’d like to crank your window 5 rotations every time it starts to rain, or lock your car door every time with a key or somehow have the full customizability of seat adjustment with levers...stfu
Try owning a Nissan/Infiniti with keyless ignition, maybe try keeping it for 20 years. Everyone I knew with those cars never bought one again. My 97 Tacoma with a cheap key ignition system still works even after 2 decades.
I have a 2008 Tundra with the 5.7 off-road package and it does great on everything but mileage on town. Gets about 20 on the highway and is incredibly dependable. My truck gets rallied and off roaded as much as you can off road a stock truck and the Bilstein shocks do amazing with the off road package.
The window is only on the CrewMax version of the Tundra (for the latest gen). You can't have a longer bed and the rear window :(. Double cab is plenty of legroom in the Tundra and the longer bed is appreciated if you actually use your truck like a truck. The window is awesome though. Tilt the sunroof and crack that rear window a bit and you get perfect airflow that won't mess your hair ;). Being able to have all the windows open is pretty cool too. Wish they had a button that opened them all at once. They really should put that window in the Tacoma so it better matches the 4Runner and Tundra. Give the Tacoma that rear window and a bit more rear legroom (the Rav4 has better legroom than the Tacoma which is total BS) and I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I tried sitting in the back of a Tacoma and it was an immediate nope. I swear the Corolla has more legroom too. It's damn cramped back there. In a Tundra I can have a child seat in the middle and adults can sit on either side comfortably. Tacoma you could fit one adult and one child seat.
You'll hate pushbutton start the moment you lose that cool junk keyfob somewhere or forget it on the counter at home and drive away and then come back out to your vehicle and can't get it started because that lovely key fob is MIA.
Pushbutton is awesome!!! U must be out of your mind if u think a turn key is better. U can't lose your key fob you never have to take it out of your pocket durrrrr
Sorry to bust your bubble but most toyotas are american built. Especially the Tundra. The tundra is the most american made truck. Built in san Antonio Texas
Slingsomelead back in 2007, the Tundra outdid every full size half ton in a huge way. It pulled more, braked harder, rode better, drove better, had more room, built better and was more innovative. People didn't buy it back then because brand loyalty. That brand loyalty comes from decades of full size truck ownership no matter the brand. Its pretty much the same concept in the small truck marker. The big boys didnt have anything worth a damn to compete with the small Japanese trucks back in those days and when Chevy marketed an Isuzu, Chrysler marketed a Mitsubishi and Ford marketed a Mazda as their own trucks, Toyota was wiping the floors with the lesser trucks. That's why you can't convince truck buyers as easily.
Slingsomelead idk thats just something i always put before my comments. I personally own 4 Toyota trucks. A 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4 V6, a 2001 Tacoma TRD Off Road, a 2014 Tundra Supercharged and an 09 Tacoma XRunner Supercharged. They all have never had a problem and are very fast, relaible, can haul alot, very stylish, and very comfortable.
To win with the Tacoma you turn on the ECT Power, at dead stop hold Traction Control Button for 5 seconds until it says off on the dash then use the manual stick which is in all new Tacomas. Do that and it flys... I know been a Tacoma owner for 17 years.
Awesome format. More please. Turning radius is a great idea. Seating position front and back is very helpful. Compared capability and MPG is awesome. Really great guys. Keep up the good work.
As to the drag race...I have a Tundra and my wife has a Tacoma...with my icon suspension and bigger tires the Tacoma feels quicker. Tundra sounds better though. A major difference from my perspective that they do not mention, aside from the interior space and comfort/headroom, is the the seat position. In the tundra you sit upright with your legs "under" you. Both my wife and I find this more comfortable. You sit much lower with your feet "out" (like a car). Not sure if I am clearly explaining this but it is very noticeable.
I bought a '17 Tacoma, I used it to tow a Uhaul (heavy) from BC to NB...then the very next year, back again. I had no issues, no mechanical problems in all that time, and simply had to do an oil change. Runs beautiful and it is hands down the best truck I've ever owned for what I need it for. My only complaint....I can't get my sled up on it.
Older tacomas used to be quality. They feel cheaper now a days is because they aren't made in the US anymore, they are made in Mexico. Tundras are still made in the us.
Grand Master Mawile I’ve got my Tacoma in 2016 so I’m lucky to have mine built in San Antonio. I’m ngl the Tundras do feel more luxurious but I would rather use a Tacoma as a daily driver.
I have the Tacoma, for my purpose it's great. The butt dyno tells me the ECT button changes the pull greatly. I'm at sea level here in the Mid Atlantic. I really enjoyed your video!!
Thanks for the ride guys! I rode in a new Tacoma and it seemed like the automatic transmission was always "hunting" for a gear. This was around Denver. Not sure what that was about. Drove a Tundra from Flower Mound Texas to Monterey California and found the Tundra very comfortable on the trip but that big boy is thirsty like my 2003 F-150. Appreciate the demos!
As transmission get more gears, they do shift more often. Its just the nature of them. If you are used to an old 4 sp auto, they don't shift often because the gears are very wide. Go drive a new F150 with a 10sp and you will see that it constantly shifts. But its not a bad thing, just keeps the engine in the proper rpm for efficiency and power (depending on conditions)
I"m sure the new Ford 10 speed is always shifting. It does help with fuel economy I'm sure but I can bet those transmissions won't see 200K miles. 6 speeds seems to be a good number I think. I don't think an auto needs more than that. 4 was the standard for years and worked well. GM's 4l60 was a great transmission.
I've found that if you're having issues like that, hit the ECT button and it'll drive how you expect. I usually turn on the ECT when i'm in traffic / town.
I dont know about newer tundras, but I drive my 2003 Tundra with 178,000 miles from Little Elm, TX to and Fayetteville, AR for college about five or six times a year. Would love a new truck but i dont think mine is dying anytime soon
Great video! I'd like to see more side-by-side comparisons like this. How about Jeep Cherokee vs. Compass or Grand Cherokee? (Have you done a towing test with either?)
I love my Taco TRD Off Road... I think these trucks appeal to two different types of buyers. For me, I live in an urban environment, so parking is so much easier with the mid size than full size truck. The MPG upgrade is appreciated, but no one buys a truck so they can get good gas mileage. My truck is perfect for hauling things recreational things as well as my our DIY trips to Home Depot in Lowes. The Taco's off road capability, as well as accessory support, makes this vehicle awesome for a get out of town and into nature weekender or day trips. We are moving back to the East Coast in September, so I will definitely be using the 4WD more. I'm 5'11", and if I was taller than 6'2"... I would go with the Tundra. To me the sitting position on the Taco is probably my harshest criticism. I really don't like how I feel getting in and out of my truck. The transmission is geared to take advantage of the Atkinson Cycle engine for a couple of points in fuel economy. It is plenty enough power for my driving habits, but if you want to get on it, ECT and the manushift mode will be your friend. I don't think any of these trucks or perfect, what truck is? However, I buy vehicles brand new and drive them for 10 years, Toyota's durability, reliability, and resale value made Tacoma the best buy for my dollar. I look forward to creating memories of adventures in this truck for the next decade!
The real selling point of these vehicles is how reliable they are and how much they hold their value even at high mileage. I’ve got a 95 Tacoma that’s got almost 400k on it, will probably upgrade soon. They’re fantastic trucks.
With the stock tires and a bed cover I have had up tp 21.5 mpg at 70 mph all highway, no traffic with the Tundra crew max -5.7 / 2 WD, lost 3 mpg going to wider tires and a lumber rack.
For my use my Tacoma 2007 is a great little truck. Had it since new. One thing i do not like is the brakes on snow or ice in the hills. Love it all the other times😍
I will have to disagree with your opinion on the ECT in the Tacoma. Whenever I tow up steeper hills, get on to a highway with a trailer, or want better acceleration I do find better results with the ECT. That being said, I am also at sea level which may help as well. For the best acceleration in Toyota Tacomas I found that putting the truck into sport (allows you to change gears) as well as having the ect on which basically allows the engine to be in a lower gear for more torque gave me pretty good acceleration.
I’ve actually been faced with this dilemma. I love the Tacoma but when I priced out the TRD Road package for each of them there was only $2000 in the difference because of sales and incentives on the Tundra. I also haul a lot of lumber and sheet goods around so the Tundra was a no brainer. I’ve driven it for 4 years and not a single issue but when life slows down a bit, I’m going to get a Tacoma.
That right there is one of the main reasons I bought the 08 Tundra...that and the real world fuel economy between the 2 is pretty nonexistent, once you hookup a trailer fuel economy is out the window regardless what vehicle it is. Plus the Tacoma still only offers a V6 and its not a little Toy anymore, its grown considerably in size and in fact its the same size as the 1st generation Tundras & the T100. The 1st gen Tundra had a V8, so there's no damn excuse Toyota couldn't be putting their 4.6L V8 in them as the standard engine because that V6 gets terrible fuel economy and the V8 is about the same as the V6 in economy in the real world. Yep the ridiculous price on the Tacoma really persuaded me to not even look at them and jumped into the Tundra instead. Would I buy another Tundra, not until they wake up and build a 3/4 or 1 ton.
Bought a 2017 Trd 4x4 short bed 4 door, premium technology pkg. Absolutely love my truck. Turned in my 2008 Trd sr5, 4 door Toyota gave me $11,700. Then gave me $5,000 off. Yes. To good to be true! Tacoma. Love my truck.
I just tested it on a 1,112 round mile trip from NE OH to the mountains of NC. I had about 450lbs of gear and two passengers. I averaged 16.5 down with no tow/haul, I averaged 17.2 home in tow/haul. The truck is an ‘18 TRD Sport CM. The tow/haul was great in the mountains, held the gear longer and the pedal sensitivity made it easy to keep the truck at the perfect speed.
The Tundra is a niche truck. If you want a truck with an amazingly reliable old school style v8, big rear axle, and tall gears, the Tundra is a great option. It will outwork anything else on the market in the half ton class.
It tows well but does not outwork any half ton truck on the market. I’ve had them all except a titan. The only thing the Tundra outworks is the Chevy 5.3.
@@MrNickjberry the facts are this: F-150 has better engine choices that are more fuel effecient and more powerful, more technology and trim packages than tundra, better towing features such as pro backup assist and several cameras. Tundra is good if getting an entry level truck, or for something reliable, but it's not the best by a long shot
Just in the mid size truck market in 2019 looked at the Colorado and after comparing it to the Tacoma ended up buying the Tacoma, the Colorado dose not even come close to the Tacoma.
Even though the Tundra is the oldest of the pack, I still think it's one of the better looking trucks on the street, next to the Raptor. The exterior has aged well and the small design changes they've made along the way go a long way. The interior is another matter, it looks old and cheap. RAM probably has the nicest interiors. It's a toss up for me between GM/Ford followed by the Nissan Titan and the Tundra in a very distant last place. If I was looking for a new full size truck today and wanted the best value, I'd probably be looking at a Titan. It's new, has a nice engine, the Pro 4X is very capable off road and their lackluster sales probably means there are great deals to be had.
Yeah the only issue with the Titan, at least back when I was looking was they loved to blow up rear differentials due to overheating...I think that's fixed now or at least I'd hope so LOL...but that's why I bought the Tundra over the Titan, damn near got the 08 Titan instead of my 08 Tundra, but with that overheating differential issue that was a no-go for me....course the Tundra isn't without issues either, front differential howl/growl due to bad bearings, rear axle bearings failed, water pump, and the front end and rear axle bearings were failing again when I sold the truck. Stuff that should never fail so early on in a supposedly "heavy duty" truck.
William Todd I don’t know anything about rear diffs blowing out but I haven’t looked into it either. That said, I was referring to the new Titan. Not a big fan of the previous gen
Have had two smaller pickups and now have a tundra. Best upgrade in my life. Hate push start. Had a Lexus ls460 and hated the heated/cooling seats. I’m an old school truck guy.
Real world avg in R.I. for my Tacoma is 21.5 mpg. Best mileage is between 40 and 55 mph due to the Atkinson cycle engine. My Tacoma is dcsb TRD off road 4x4.
Cole Corbett I find that my best mileage happens between 45 and 60 with outside temps above 50. I get 17-18 in the winter in Rhode Island. It's inefficient in the cold and I don't know why.
Push button start has been around for a few years now, and I still don't understand why it's so important. Crazy how Toyota won't put that roll down window in the Tacoma to have something extra compared to other trucks.
If you can't tell the difference between a Colorado & Silverado and what they'd be good at just by looking at them.......then I guess we do need a comparison video lol
Most comparison videos are apples to apples. It's nice to see apples to oranges comparisons. It's the simple fact that most people don't realize that they don't need 'full-size' capability, and might be better off with a mid-size. Comparing both in the same video will help show that...especially if TFL shows them in real-world daily-use scenarios, like taking both trucks into crowded parking lots, tight drive-thrus, ATM's that are lower than the truck window, etc. I love the Ike Gauntlet videos, but to be real, most people aren't hauling a trailer @ max GVWR up a mountain, they're hitting MickeyD's drive-thru on the way to the office.
What happens with a lot of people in this comparison is that the full size trucks have big discounts to the point where you can get a 1500 for the same price as the Colorado, and for me the leg room alone in the 1500 makes it a no brainer.
In my opinion, I actually prefer the first generation Tundra(00-06) like the one you have over the current one. The new one is nice but your Tundra to me is the Goldilocks of pickup trucks which is not too big or not too small just the right size for most people. Plus, the 4.7 V8 is simply bullet proof.
That's one thing that I noticed when I brought my Tundra ,I felt that my Tacoma was faster right away.I keep both.My Tacoma is 233,000 miles old and still kicking.
I almost made the mistake of trading my 2013 Tundra for a 2016 Tacoma. They wanted 3K down and my truck. I was like are you kidding me? Now I'm 9 payments away to fully owned it. The Tacoma are nice but the cab are too small. I had my 5' 8" dad sitting on the backseat and he hated it. It also fell pretty slow riding it.
As an added asset, the ECT button allows you to customize performance when you need a little more power. When you press the ECT button, the transmission will sharpen throttle response and adjust the rpm levels at which the transmission shifts.
I owned both trucks, the Tacoma first and the Tundra second. In my opinion for an around town vehicle the Tacoma is tops. I am 6'2 and didnt mind the small cab. It made it seem like a sports car. I would never have traded it except that we use our truck for road trips. In that case the Tundra wins hands down. One thing we discovered on a trip with the Tacoma out in West Texas was a moaning noise from the wind across the mirrors that got very aggravating. The speed limit in West TX. is 80 MPH and it was windy, so we got some wind, but that more than anything caused me to trade up to Tundra. You could crack the window amd it would stop but who wants to listen to that noise! One other point, this Tacoma was my 3rd and I never had a problem with any of them. My son totaled the 1st and I traded the 3rd to the Tundra. The second I bought and drove it a while, gave it to my oldest who gave it to his brother then I drove it again until 125k. I sold it to a coworker who drove it for 6 more years and 65k who recently sold it to his landscaper. In all that time and over 220,000 miles it had 1 sensor go out that cost 100.00 to fix.
ECT raises the shift points and it should have been pressed for the drag part. there IS an AC/heat vent in the taco between the front seats at the back of the console for the back seats.
I just bought a 2002 tundra limited 4.7v8 with 204k miles on it because I am a hard working man with a family and can't afford a new truck. With that being said it's new to me and has not one flaw. It's dry and clean underneath and probably never seen a dirt road until now, no dents, no rust, everything works, tons of room to do any repairs if it ever needs them. I wouldn't be scared to go start it up right now and drive to china. It has aftermarket 20" wheels and an aftermarket audio system but, other than that everything is factory. I'll be keeping this one for a very long time. A true diamond in the rough.
I bought an 89 toyota pickup and it had head valve gasket problems. At 150 thousand miles they checked it out and found out my heads were pitted from water leaking by a faulty gasket. Toyota rebuilt the engine free. Love them guys and will always be a toyota man.
Have a 2012 tundra and never had an issue. 105k miles. Zero rust Buddy has a 2015 dodge and rusting box side in a few spots and bumper is full of rust. Always has issues.
I like your videos. I just wish you would not say things that are untrue. Toyotas have never been notoriously bad at maneuvering. Tundra has one of the tightest curb to curb turning radius.
I bought a 2020 Tacoma 6 Speed Manual. Had everything including leather. It was a beautiful truck & fun for wheeling and camping but lacked in power. Now I own a 2019 Tundra 1794 and this is hands down a better vehicle. Taco was bouncy and harsh on long rides. Tundra is still a truck but goes the distance. Fuel efficiency is terrible with both but if you need better fuel mileage get a Prius.
I have owned both. The Tacoma when i was single and just needed a truck for me and my small fishing boat. And now the Tundra for my family and bigger boat. The Tundra took some getting used to but I love it now and wouldn’t trade it for any other truck. The active brake assist has saved my ass once so far. I’m so glad i have it.
1. The drag race, proves ignorance of the driver, should have hit the tow/haul mode switch. Save yourself wasted time of a second run. 2. This comparison is bogus, the only difference between this David & Goliath comparison is fuel mileage. 3. Hands dow the Tundra is more comfortable, more capable, and not much more in price. The only game the Tacoma has is turning radius and if you haven’t looked the Taco TRD PRO starts at $48k Guys I shopped for over 5 months, the Tundra is the best deal going in the 1/2 to truck. LOL! How did you all pour yourselves into the back seat of that Taco could be a Ripley’s new record! All jokes aside, you guys do great videos, and please this was like comparing a Camaro to a Corvette, same manufacturer but two very different class of vehicles. IMHO
I love the rear dif lock in my tacoma. And the fuel mileage is a little bad for it being a small toyota. I'm a little heavy on the pedal too. But the tundra with the rear window that goes up and down really help when I load my 4 wheeler up I dont have to worry about knocking it out.
I cannot wait to get my Tacoma next month! Although I may end up just waiting on the 2019s to come out, just depends on inventory in my area. As far as size/comfort goes, I'm a 5'7" girl and I've test driven the truck and found it really comfortable for me personally. I've heard that critique from a lot of taller/larger guys. I'm coming out of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee that recently hit 200,000 miles, so I'm extremely excited for my first brand new vehicle. It's going to be a drastic change for me. Fortunately, the mileage is very similar to my XJ so I wouldn't be destroying my bank account trying to fuel the thing.
Here is my Tacoma story; bought the truck for $24K, drove it for 10 years then traded in for value $15K. I don't think any vehicle can beat that!
PDB Long never
Jeep Wrangler can do that.
And you didnt fix nothing right
PDB Long Tacoma is the worlds best value holding vehicle
Giveit2mehRAW the Wranglers may not be up to par with the tacos , but the Jeep TJs are. I am desperately trying to find one for my wife that hasn't been modded all to hell, And has relatively low kilometers. And I can't find one for under 10k Canadian. And keep in mind some of the ones we looked at are 2000 - 1997 model year. It's crazy!
I went to the dealership for a tacoma and drove away with a tundra. I just fell in love with the power and sound of the V8 and the space and comfort of it.
Daniel Molina Same as you.
Daniel Molina me too!
So you didn't need a full size truck but decided to get one anyway and pay a lot more and live with the poorer fuel economy. That makes sense.
I’ve always liked and needed full size trucks ( to haul my camping trailer). A tacoma seemed practical at the time for off road, looks and fuel efficiency although that never worried me to much. So, I can pay a lot more and live with a poorer fuel economy. Does that make sense now.?
I did the same thing. I’m 6’3 and couldn’t feel comfortable in a Tacoma...
I work at the Toyota plant (TMMTX) that builds tundras and Tacomas. They are great trucks. I own a tundra.
nice that is a great job to have! God bless!
Went on a tour their last week. It was definitely a great experience!

@Big Smoke The 00-06 Tundra is closer to the Tacoma size but with a V8, I have 2 of them. An 02 access cab and an 05 double cab. Amazing trucks with the best of both worlds!

consumer reports do rate the tundra as the most reliable, but asking a transmission shop that services all makes is a bad way to judge if the question is what you see more. the big 3 sell over 500k of their half tons each year. Toyota barely breaks over 100k a year in sales for the tundra. Obviously, independent repair shops will see less tundras than other half tons that outsell it 5 to 1

Would be cool if the Tacoma had a 4.6 option
Considering its the same size that the 1st generation tundra was, it should have a V8 option...especially for the ridiculous price they have on those Tacomas, which is why I bought the Tundra, I wanted the 5.7L V8, the Tacoma doesn't have a V8, and the Tundra was only $2k more than a Tacoma...hmm yeah I'll buy the full size over whatever the hell that Tacoma is supposed to be.
WT, Pound for pound the price of a Tundra is a steal compared to the Tacoma.

I dont understand everyone's obsession with push button start
Pure laziness. Same reason manual transmissions are gone, and everything has electric windows, door locks, mirrors, 20 way adjustable seats, etc. People here in the US are just pure lazy.
William Todd I’m sure you’d like to crank your window 5 rotations every time it starts to rain, or lock your car door every time with a key or somehow have the full customizability of seat adjustment with levers...stfu
I don't mind at all. Have you had to fix that shit when it breaks? Obviously not. STFU
William Todd never heard a push to start button being a prevalent problem for any make or model. As if key ignitions don’t have their problems.
Like that Tundra rear window.
Brad Conklin same, best in the business
Brad Conklin they brought that feature over from the 4Runner.
Brad Conklin I wish the Tacoma had that feature.
I love key in ignition, I hate pushbutton start.
You'll hate pushbutton start the moment you lose that cool junk keyfob somewhere or forget it on the counter at home and drive away and then come back out to your vehicle and can't get it started because that lovely key fob is MIA.
That's why we drive Chevys and eat tacos😂

To me Toyota does small trucks to perfection, but falls short in full size trucks.
America auto makers do it the other way around.
Sorry to bust your bubble but most toyotas are american built. Especially the Tundra. The tundra is the most american made truck. Built in san Antonio Texas
Princess Luna123 I’m aware of that, how are you busting my bubble?

Tunda seems more luxurious than the cheap feeling Tacoma which seems budget.

O like both I used a Tacoma daily and my tundra for weekends!!!
Would love a new truck but i dont think mine is dying anytime soon

even with the 2.7, i can spin the tires with too much throttle on the taco in ect pwr mode.
Great video! I'd like to see more side-by-side comparisons like this. How about Jeep Cherokee vs. Compass or Grand Cherokee? (Have you done a towing test with either?)
I have the manual Tacoma man I love it manual forever
Great video guys. Just bought a Tundra TRD Sport this weekend and I am loving it!
I just bought mine last Sunday… it’s big, but I love it 😍
The real selling point of these vehicles is how reliable they are and how much they hold their value even at high mileage.
I bought my Tundra 2 weeks ago n I love it...By the way, great video!
For my use my Tacoma 2007 is a great little truck. Had it since new. One thing i do not like is the brakes on snow or ice in the hills. Love it all the other times😍
I saw a tundra driving besides me in Australia the other day. I wanted one! That's why I'm here.
Try pressing tow/haul mode on the tundra, throttle response is a better.
I will have to disagree with your opinion on the ECT in the Tacoma. Whenever I tow up steeper hills, get on to a highway with a trailer, or want better acceleration I do find better results with the ECT. That being said, I am also at sea level which may help as well. For the best acceleration in Toyota Tacomas I found that putting the truck into sport (allows you to change gears) as well as having the ect on which basically allows the engine to be in a lower gear for more torque gave me pretty good acceleration.
true.
I agree, the throttle is far more responsive for me when i activate the ECT. But like you said, it may be because they are a mile above sea level.
I've owned my Taco for 2 years. It works for me.
same
I’ve actually been faced with this dilemma.

The truck is an ‘18 TRD Sport CM. The tow/haul was great in the mountains, held the gear longer and the pedal sensitivity made it easy to keep the truck at the perfect speed.

Great video!!! Agreed, these side by side mid sized vs full sized comparisons are nice to see
Even though the Tundra is the oldest of the pack, I still think it's one of the better looking trucks on the street, next to the Raptor.

Push button start has been around for a few years now, and I still don't understand why it's so important.
Crazy how Toyota won't put that roll down window in the Tacoma to have something extra compared to other trucks.
I love this comparison video style. What about Silverado vs Colorado?
I'd like to see that, just from a episode viewing preseption. Even maybe the Nissan's? Frontier and titan?
What happens with a lot of people in this comparison is that the full size trucks have big discounts to the point where you can get a 1500 for the same price as the Colorado, and for me the leg room alone in the 1500 makes it a no brainer.
Silverado is poop. Colorado is the only other "real' truck
My 2001 Tundra has over 200K miles on it and drives beautifully. It's indestructible.
I loooooooooooooooove the Tundra " it is my dream" .
Specially the Texas edition.

First time I've ever heard someone say the tundra doesnt turn well. On the contrary I've heard that it has the best turn than any other half ton truck
you guys should do these tests on suburban or city streets where are used 90% of the time
Dont
6-speed manual transmission Tacoma would be my choice, perfect for my light farm use. Got an old reliable diesel 7.3L Ford F250 for the heavy work.
Push the ECT power button and the taco is A lot quicker
ECT raises the shift points and it should have been pressed for the drag part. there IS an AC/heat vent in the taco between the front seats at the back of the console for the back seats.
I feel like I'm about to watch a "little trucks can do anything big trucks can do" video
I have a 2004 4Runner v8 4.7 with Aftermarket Turbo I love it Toyota is the best no matter what you get will last forever .
Do you guys have any inside information if the 2019 Toyota Tundra will be diesel???
Very well done video! Definitely pros and cons of each. Can’t wait till Toyota finally overhauls the Tundra
Prime Autotainment it needs it so bad
Blake Swan yep, especially with updates on 2019 Ram/Silverado
Only a decade old design....
Look what they did to the Tacoma. The new engine sucks compared to the old one. Can't put a supercharger on it either.
Let’s just hope they don’t go to some eco style or small displacement turbo setup. I actually love the fact my 18 TRD Sport is “outdated”.
I bought an 89 toyota pickup and it had head valve gasket problems. At 150 thousand miles they checked it out and found out my heads were pitted from water leaking by a faulty gasket. Toyota rebuilt the engine free. Love them guys and will always be a toyota man.
Why does Toyota have 6 lug nuts on the small truck and 5 on the big truck
Dr Diamondz The Tacoma is newer model.
The 5 lugs on the tundra are a lot larger bolt size
Older tundras had 6 lugs and they switched to 5 lugs in 07. It’s a larger hub that is stronger
callofduty: The Tacoma 4x4s have had 6 lug hubs since at least 2005
Kevindust they've had 6 lug since they were first built
Have a 2012 tundra and never had an issue. 105k miles. Zero rust
Buddy has a 2015 dodge and rusting box side in a few spots and bumper is full of rust. Always has issues.
Its like comparing dad with son 😂😂
I just pulled a 30 foot camper (5,500 lbs.) on a 4 hour drive with a Tacoma. Love this truck.
Talk about quality content! Thanks you guys rock
The only game the Tacoma has is turning radius and if you haven’t looked the Taco TRD PRO starts at $48k
Guys I shopped for over 5 months, the Tundra is the best deal going in the 1/2 to truck.
Tundra I’m praying Jesus to bless me with fr fr I’m absolutely just in love with this truck all suden
