I love this guy’s philosophy: “I bought a truck because it takes me where I need to go”. Great 👍 that’s what truck are meant for ;) I have a 2018 Tundra limited and love every inch of it!
Cheyne, I really like the reviews you have done so far. They are comprehensive, honest, and have good camera and audio work. Also, I love that a lot of this is in one of my favorite places in the world - the Eastern Sierra :-). Recently, My wife and I were headed to June Lake and the day before we were to leave, both my truck and her Jeep had mechanical problems that I couldn't fix by the next morning. We ended up renting a Tacoma TRD Off Road model for the trip. On the way up my wife suggested replacing my truck with a Tacoma. I told her, "...there was no way, I'll drive anything but full-size truck". Well, by the end of the 10 day trip, I had changed my mind and for exactly the reasons you gave for not buying the Raptor. That Tacoma is "just right" in that it fits where a full size won't. And the mileage...Oh my gosh, the mileage... My current truck gets about 10 in the city and 15 on the highway. I got 25 on 395 between Bishop and home. This trip really was the best way for me to test and evaluate the Tacoma, even though I didn't realize I would be doing that when I left. I've driven between the IE and Mammoth/June/Tahoe dozens, maybe even a hundred times, so I know how much gas I use between points and how hard the climb- outs are. When we left, I thought this little six is going to struggle and use lots of fuel to crest Cajon, Sherwin, Dead Man, and Conway. It didn't. The Tacoma is really a nice driver, gets good mileage and is great off road. We did several off road trips in the Mammoth area with the Tacoma. I am a long-time 4WD owner and have a lot of time on trails and in snow between the Sierra and Big Bear. The Tacoma did really well. I just drove it and didn't use the crawl or MTS because I didn't understand how to use it at that time. We explored a lot of Sierra back country. I was a little skeptical of the factory tires but they do better than one might think. The Toyota is really good as it comes and, surprisingly, it still gets good mileage off road. My full size Ram drops back to about 8 MPG off road. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the TRD Pro and some national parks. The parks are my and my wife's thing too, so it will be fun to ride along. Utah's five or Yellowstone back country would be really cool!
Great update! I laughed more than I should have when I heard people hit their doors on the rock sliders. Those rock sliders are the karma for people who don't care about hitting other peoples cars lol.
As a future pickup owner and current 4-runner owner, it is Toyotas durability that has a notch above its competition. Great video and as a full-time traveling adventurer, I will follow your site. 😊👌🏾
driving 55-60 on the hwy makes a huge improvement in gas mileage. My 2012 T4R LTD 4x4 averages 18.5 overall when i drive 75-80 on hwy and 50% street/heavy traffic driving. But a couple times i reset mpg and drove 62 on hwy and it was at 23 mpg after 400 miles
I'm totally with you when you talk about getting better MPGs over driving faster. I drive my 2019 Corolla at 63 mph and manage to get 51 MPGs. Couldn't be happier
I have that same issue with my rear bumper too. I have the 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro as well. I didn't know that others had this same problem. I will now take mine in to get it looked at. Thank you for your honest review. I have LOVED my TRD Pro. It does what I need to do in town, drives well, and I can take mine off road when I need it to. Great video.
The reason for the great mileage is the camper shell. It really helps tame the wind drag. I had a shell on my Dodge Ram and was averaging 22 MPG and I took the shell off and it dropped all the way down to 14 MPG.
There is a TSB at your local Toyota dealership. Free update and fixes the gear hunting. Runs so much better buuuuuut the gas mileage suffered a bit but hey.. can’t win them all :) great video. Enjoy the Tacoma
I complained about the transmission in my 2016 Tacoma since the day I got it, and the dealer always said there was nothing wrong. I found a video with that TSB update and brought it into my dealership with that information. Problem solved, what a difference. I love my Taco now, and will keep it for a long time. Thanks for the video.👍
Excellent review! I'll tell you why. No on in RUclips mentioned that you can disengage crawl without stopping just by pressing the gass and itll automatically engage again once I let off the breaks. Sir how do you feel power is on this truck? I own two 4runners and that have 4.0 and I'm thinking of getting this for town.
As for the cap leak,....I'm an installer those. And the Tacomas are known for leaks because of the bulkhead/cap design. It will just take some more sealer. However, most truck beds, foreign and domestic, have gaps and openings that allow water in even after cap and lid installs. To seal some of these openings, would require either that expandable foam, or removal the bed, to gain access to the gaps/openings. I just recently purchased a 2011 Tacoma, with 331,000 plus miles, looks and runs like damp near new. Better than the Grand Prix I had, it had creaks, groans and rattles at 80,000 miles. Ran great, but everything else was worn.
Enjoyed your two reviews. Great camera work. This is the only TRD Pro I haven’t owned. They all have their Pros and Cons. The best thing about the taco is the gas mileage with the new 3.5L with Atkinson cycle. There are companies that are releasing twin turbo kits etc. soon so power won’t be a issue soon. Rock sliders are a must in my opinion as they serve more than one purpose like protecting from dings as you said and have a spot to stand to access the roof rack etc. The imported FJ 2012 TT and 4Runner I have owned def seem to have better quality control than the Texas built tundra and taco.
Great second review and when my 2019 TRD PRO arrives I’ll make sure those issues are not on my truck. I currently drive a 2011 SR5 2WD Prerunner and it’s never had a problem, but I just want a top of the line TRD PRO and hopefully take off road a few times.
That gas mileage is fantastic. I have a 2019 TRT offroad, I am not a slow driver, but also not a fast/aggressive driver. I get 19 to 21 mpg. The premium JBL sound system does NOT provide premium sound. There are a lot of video about replacing the speakers and that might be the next things I do to the truck. The factory speakers appear to be paper and have small, weak magnets. I hate the beeping/alarm that sounds when you dont have your seat belt on. I don't need a vehicle to be my nanny. Accessories: The ARE bed cap increased the wind noise significantly...not the truck's fault, but still annoying. I love the bed rug that I bought/installed. But I started carrying a bit of gardening soil, mulch, pallets...and I kept worrying about the bed rug. So I bought a bed mat to protect the bed run. The bed rug is great for keeping the bed warmer, quieter...for camping and for keeping stuff protected from little leaks that might occur.
Great videos Cheyne! Just got a Audi B7 S4 Avant 6MT back in December and I think I want to sell it for the upcoming TRD Pro in Army Green! That's gonna be such a sick color! But I'm still waiting on the video on how you got a good deal out of the dealership! Thanks!
I own a 2017 TRD off road and I only get 18.0 combined at best. My truck has 27, 000 miles on it. I've taken two road trips from Little Rock, AR to Clearwater , FL and only managed 17.6 mpg highway driving at an average of 70-75 mph.
enjoyed this one and the 2 mo. Review. Can you say more about your process of negotiating and shopping the 2 dozen dealerships in pulling the trigger on this Golden’ pick, plz? BTW...was that $4.17/gallon 89 tane’? No wonder you’re careful with driving economically.
Great update I agree with the engine power I’m usually always at 18-19 mpg And I believe you on your mpg the most I got was 24/25 mpg and I’m sure I could’ve had it climb
Great videos. Was on the fence between the Colorado Duramax and the TRD. With the 2020s coming out with height adjustable power seat and Apple CarPlay, I think its a no brainer now. Someone else commented on your jacket and you said it's a North Face. What model/colour-combo? I've been looking for that jacket online and can't find it anywhere.
Thanks Mike, The new 2020s are awesome. As for the NorthFace Jacket I'll let you know in a few months. Its packed away in one of our camping container. I do know its about 4 or 5 years old tho.
I enjoyed the video and honest feedback as I am shopping for this truck. What sliders are those that you have? I like the look and functionality for both on/off road protection.
Tacoma durability is second to none. Not to mention in 2018/2019 models, the PreCollision System, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic high beams are standard equipment. Plus the Tacoma is #1 vehicle in Resale Value according to Kelly Blue book.
I am in the same position. I seriously only consider the Tacoma still because I can get manual trans, and not on any Colorado Duramax. Also cheaper for what I want.
Currently selling my LR Defender and deciding between the AEV Prospector and the Tacoma Off-Road w/ diesel upgrade to replace it. Your comments about size are what are leaning me towards the Tacoma. I am going to be doing 80/20 on-road/off-road so the small size would be nice however that 20% off-road will be serious off-road so that warranty and capabilities of the AEV are a plus. So still at square one....
@@jshaw6600 If you can come to terms with the fact that an off-road vehicle built in 1989 is not a modern vehicle on-road then you will be fine in it. I use it every day, yeah it is a bit loud, yeah it has rattles, yea you are not winning any races but it is fine for everyday use. Any specific characteristics you are curious about?
Nice view of the Alabama Hills! Couple of follow up questions. 1) For MPG, do you calculate it at the pump with averaging from dividing the total miles from previous fill up, by number of gallons pumped? 2) Will you trade in you 2018 for the 2020 TRD Pro which does have the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and electronic adjustable seats? 3) Will you trade in for the upcoming release of the Ford Ranger Raptor? 4) When you got your Tacoma, did you consider the long bed for more sleeping area in the bed?
Hi, thanks for the comment. To answer your questions, 1) its calculate at the pump. 2) Not going to trade up for the 2020. Would like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, but not worth a few thousands to upgrade. 3) No, if the Ford Ranger Raptor ever comes to the US. I drove a Ranger Raptor in AUS, it was great, but not for $60K. 4) I wanted the 5 foot bed to help with off-roading. I just sleep corner to corner (6') and it works fine. I hope this helps, Cheers!
Thank you for the informative review! Definitely considering a Toyota truck! About the speed/MPG, you are doing the right thing if not in a rush. Highway MPG is not the same as "MPG upper limit."
I'm stoked to see a photographer choose the Taco over the 4Runner. I debated that for years since I have drones and cameras etc. I'm with you on that choice. Much more room and you don't have to move seats or anything to get to it. I had a few of the same issues you had but they're all fixed. HATE the Entune system. I'm getting a BeatSonic system that will display my phone on the screen, but it won't be touchscreen. I don't know how you got it CHEAPER! I bought the Off Road and built it bigger and better than the Pro. Sick truck man! There is no more reliable truck than the Tacoma. Chevy and Ford will have WAY more problems than what you had on this truck and you can't put 300,000 miles on them. You can add a front locker and better tires are a standard upgrade. I took those Kevlar tires off as fast as I could, they blow.
thank you for the honest review and openness much appreciated I'm still trying to decide between this and a Chevy ZR2 or a Chevy Z71. Orrr. Just buying a basic 4 by 4 truck and then adding accessories later any information or input on this would be much appreciated thank you again Cheyenne.
For long drives I would go for the Z71, off-road the ZR2 all the way. I also thought about building up a basic 4x4, but I'm waiting and hoping for a diesel Tacoma and thought the resale value would be alot better on a TRD Pro over a frankenstein 4x4. Plus Toyota is really picky on their overall warrants when accessories are added.
@@cheynewalls understood. I am an avid rock climber and would like to go to Indian Creek and Zion as well as some parts of vedauwoo Wyoming which I have been some of the paths are very worn down and tricky that's why I'm kind of leaning towards a ZR2 because when I can go anywhere at anytime Z71 I could put a leveling kit on 2in and be able to get to most parts would you think in the Utah area? Thoughts and previous experiences in the Utah area please let me know which one would be better off be going for the Z71 or the ZR2?
I had a 2016 Tacoma TRDOR and had to lemon law the piece of shit. After it happily went away I bought a used Colorado Z71 and it was a great truck. Just a couple weeks ago I traded it for a 2020 Colorado ZR2 and it’s amazing. Toyota was terrible to deal with during the many trips to the service department and for that reason I’ll never own another Tacoma even if they gave it to me.
My 6.1 fits perfectly in the bed, but I do have a 10" paddle board that I just throw in with the tailgate up and let the board hangout the back. If I'm going over a few miles I'll just strap down the front of the broad in the bed.
Damn I have a 4runner and get 17-18. That’s crazy you get that mileage. Also I have bigger tires and a lift on mine so that prolly kills it more for me but wouldn’t trade my runner for anything
Ok,I assume that's the v-6,but I'm not sure,if your really not in a hurry, could it be the 4cyll ?I like the TRD pro,but I'm confused which trim is smart for me,I use it about like you do,hunting a couple days a year? Can you get a 4 cyllinder TRD pro, would it be stupid, the older 22R was really a good motor, and I cant afford to make a dumb mistake?
Great review - thanks you for sharing. Could you post a link to the rock sliders you installed. I love the truck and am conflicted about the color - I love the blue but wonder if I'll get sick of it. Any color fatigue? I like the white and the blue but white 2018s are hard to come by in MA but quite a few blues. Hoping to get a good deal when the 19s hit the dealer lots. Thanks agin for your review.
I have the blazing blue pearl on trd offroad. Not sure if you have been looking at those, but I have no regrets going with it. I still look back at my truck when I walk away from it in a parking lot. Blue is a great color on the Tacoma.
I have the white and it just looks clean as hell hahah. I would say use autoland and have them find exactly what you want for you. Im pretty sure they have some sort of service up there for you
If you want a reliable truck. Go Toyota, people rag on Toyota for not following the pack but it's because they're so good at refining what they have rather than making drastic changes that back fire big time that's made their vehicles reliable. Personally I would have loved to see the truck Tacoma being made in Japan. Wife and I own two 4 runners. She drives the limited( better handling and overall maneurism on road) and I drive the TRD PRO. My decision to go for the 4 runners was because I was I wanted the pathological quality control that Toyota offers ONLY IN JAPANESE line up. However, my brother who owns a camry made here has been beat up on hard, 5 collisions and long driving still drives like it's new. So clearly Toyota knows how to control it's quality even in America. But overall I've noticed the quality control is a little better in Japanese made line. With alot more attention to detail.
I did not read all the other comments, so someone else may have addressed this; but, you cannot go by the on-board computer alone...you need to calculate the mpg (milage/gallons purchased). On my SR5 there is often a 2 MPG difference between the truck computer and the actual MPG. JMO...for what it is worth.
@@Archer1346 Its never going to be 100% exact, but I have used all possible numbers, Hand calculated using Google maps mileages, Garmin GPS miles, the trucks odometer, trucks MPGs computer, gas pump numbers, ex..... It always comes out about the same.
The steps are made by Toyota, Toyota PT767-35160 Running Board (Cast Aluminum) , I just added custom made railing underneath to make them more comparable for rock sliding.
Last week I drove for 300 mile. I used 91, no cruise control, speed around 65 to 70. The best I got was 21 mpg. Maybe if I'm not using off road tiers I would get an extra mile. I also put it on s mode (6th gear). But if I'm using speed control (especially with the new radar feature) I only get 18 mpg on hw.
Thanks for the great video! I'm looking at a new Tacoma and curious about how you negotiated the deal on the new truck. I'm just starting to work with the dealers and it's tough (especially as a woman looking at a truck) to negotiate with them. Thanks in advance for any advice!
I'm working on a video about that now, but won't be up till next year. My biggest advice would be work with as many dealerships as you can. I talked to over 20 dealerships before getting my deal. Be very patient, give them a number you want to pay and then keep bothering them until they agree. Sooner or later a dealership will meet that price or get close.
@@cheynewalls Thanks for the information! I did contact many dealers. It seems the new tactic is that "we are a one-price dealer." The quotes I received from the "one-price dealers" were all within $10.00 on a $40,000 truck and well over "factory invoice.' After visiting dealers that made false promises on the price (quoted one price on the phone and when driving to the dealer and ready to buy the price changed) I did find a dealer that worked with me at a price under factory invoice. So things worked out in my case, a great 2019 Tacoma truck at a fair price. I know your upcoming video will be awesome like your others. Best to you and keep up the good work!
think about the money you save on gas vs the extra time ur driving @55-60mpg losing minutes, hours, days of your life to save a few cents, extra mpg worth it?
I wanted that color so badd but the salesman tells me 6 to 8 months for the pro😑 I end up with the next best thing trd off road 4x4 I didnt like to wait
I have a 2015 TRD i went and put a 3 inch lift on mine with a mud & snow tires rock sliders on it to brush guard on the front from ranch hand but don't have lockers that i know of my next project is getting them for mine i do extreme off roading i belong to a off roading club here I've learned alot from it to plus i have lightbar also made for mine
Like that topper! Practical. ZR2 is more comfortable and has more power, even handles better...doesn’t get the mileage the Tacoma gets and isn’t as refined as you say. Great “TRUCK” video. ? :)
Love the color of the truck. I was really impressed with the mileage. Is it perhaps because of the body covering the bed creating better aero dynamics or 89 grade level fuel? Have you talked to other Tacoma owners if they are getting similar mpg ?
Funny I did notice a bit better MPG with the campershell. After years of testing with other cars we have found 89 & 91 burns a little cleaner, adding to life of the engine. Yes I have talked with others about their MPG. I have heard from 15MPG all the way to 28MPG, but haven't meet with any others who have the same driving requirements.
I love your TRD Pro, nice colour. You’re right about the rock sliders they do protect doors from small dents. I have a TRD Pro 2020 and I like to park between two small cars, they would hit the running board instead of the doors.
😆 this guys is all “excuse me while I just live out my dream and dive around take crazy beautiful pics of nature and drive this awesome truck while you all guys watch”
Are you having any sort of pulsation or vibration in your feet when you hit the breaks while the car is stopped, in reverse, or while driving at any speed?
I wonder if he is using the u.s. or imperial mpg setting? I have a light foot on the gas and coast a lot before using my brakes and I get an average of 22-23 mpg.
A 2019 Tacoma cost 33k new a 2016 with 50k miles on it cost 30k... save for new one that way you know it's taken care of and treated right. People submerge these, jump them, etc. People constantly try and test their indestructible reputation.

@@cheynewalls gotcha man! I'll have to try that, I'm still wrapping my head around you getting 26mpg with a v6!! I have the 4 cylinder and I can hardly even get 19mpg.
Did they ever fix your rear bumper? I have the same issue and they are giving me a hard time about it, even though I've only used the truck 4 months....
Hi Matt, I'm running into the same problem. Dealer said "Yea no problem" over the phone, but I took it in and then all the sudden they need to keep the truck for 3 to 4 days. I haven't found the time to take it back. I'm a little annoyed, I do feel this dealer is making me jump through hoops.
@@cheynewalls Thanks for getting back! I got the bumper fixed by the dealer to where it's tolerable. I made them even it out on both sides. I had to take the truck back a couple of times and finally got mad and told them they need to get their act right, and so they got it close. If it keeps bothering me, I will just change to an aluminum bumper in the future.
@@cheynewalls also walked around the dealership and looked at all of the Tacoma's some are insane with the offset but some are close.... Almost all where offset though...disappointing

As mid-size trucks they are both a little tight. Wouldn't want spend much more than a 30 mins in either backseat. Kids are fine. I do think however the Toyota has a lot smoother ride, kind of helps the people in the backseat.
I own a 2018 TRD Pro and noticed my AC is also always freezing cold regardless of the temperature it is at. You mentioned that Toyota fixed this issue under warranty and was curious if you could provide more insight on this so I can have it addressed/fixed as well. Thanks.
Hi, just went in to the dealer and told him the problem. The technician seemed to have heard about this issue before, I think. But an hour later it worked just fine.
Why are you putting 89 instead of 87? You are concerned with saving $ on fuel aren't you? Also it is more accurate to hand calculate the gas mileage instead of relying on the computer as it is usually optimistic. Nice looking truck though!
Exactly, unless it's recommeneded/required to put higher octane fuel, it's better to go with the lowest octane since the truck is tuned for the lower grade fuel
Everything was hand calculated, same numbers. After years of testing with other cars we have found 89 burns a little cleaner, adding to life of the engine.
That's odd. Higher octane rating will typically result in higher carbon buildup than lower octane as lower octane will burn "cleaner". Now if your local gas station has a low quality gasoline is causing detonation then sure higher octane gas is warranted. Higher octane gasoline burning cleaner is a myth and scientifically is designed to require higher temperature to burn.
If I remember correctly the lower octane has greater potential energy although its negligible for real world wish i could find the article but still kinda interesting. It talked about the loss of Octane over time and what happens with ethanol over time. Depending on the environment i believe you lose around 4 points over 2 weeks of just sitting.
7:36 mark you had mention the clicking noise. I have the same thing and have narrowed it to the blower motor area. In your csse what did they do in order to fix it? I have noticed thst if there is some side winds and you are going 65+ mph it will occur. (Fan motor off)
good honest review. i agree with almost everything. i hate how toyota takes forever to update its tech, but like you said it will last forever. i wouldnt sweat the tires, yank them off, sell them, and get Falken wild peak at/3 Ws. such a great tire , affordable , aggressive looking, and very silent on road. i also wouldnt care about the zr2 comparisons, the toyota will out last, out sell, and hold its value way better than a crappy chevy. those zr2 shocks will also cost a small fortune to replace after one gets destroyed with those stupid rear shock mounts that hang like 4 inches off the ground.

Great review and what’s with these people drinking the hatorade if you don’t like don’t watch I appreciate the honest info. Sweet truck considering trading my f150 for one but I do tow a boat every weekend like 7 months a year.
Thanks, Yea I'm not sure how it would do with a boat. I had 3,500 on the Tacoma and it didn't feel like it could handle much more. But I guess it is rated to tow 6,800. I'll let you know if I ever hitch it to something bigger. Cheers

Actually, the whole tailgate's gap isn't matching. At 14:51 you can see that the gap between the tailgate and the bed is bigger on the left... There might have been a reason for it to be cheaper than the 4x4 version...
My stock 2017 TRD offroad has been on some pretty mean trails and did surprisingly well. Those running boards are NOT for rocks, I already broke some chunks out of mine. 800$ cast aluminum from toyota.

Thank you, The Tacoma has decent power, not as good as the 4runner, but at no point have I ever said to myself, I wish the Tacoma had more power.
That thing looks so good with the bed cap! How many miles do u have on it now??
See I would say I could just catch the TRD taco after depreciation hits, but depreciation doesnt hit a Toyota
Awesome man! Love your lifestyle and how you use your truck!
27 mpg is impressive, my 2017 Off road is getting 23 but that’s about average speed of 65-70
Great second review and when my 2019 TRD PRO arrives I’ll make sure those issues are not on my truck. I currently drive a 2011 SR5 2WD Prerunner and it’s never had a problem, but I just want a top of the line TRD PRO and hopefully take off road a few times.
love how you are not in a hurry, I have adapted the same mentality since getting my 5.7 tundra. 16.3 mpg baby
Accessories:
The ARE bed cap increased the wind noise significantly...not the truck's fault, but still annoying.
You're right about the steering wheel button, it's totally counterintuitive. Thanks for the reviews!
I'd definitely be interested in hearing about your dealer experience and negotiations. Love the vid.
I'll try to have that video posted by the end of the month, Cheers
I just have full confidence in my 04 TRD TACO 4X4 220.000 and still going strong
enjoyed this one and the 2 mo. Review. Can you say more about your process of negotiating and shopping the 2 dozen dealerships in pulling the trigger on this Golden’ pick, plz? BTW...was that $4.17/gallon 89 tane’? No wonder you’re careful with driving economically.
Great update I agree with the engine power
I’m usually always at 18-19 mpg
And I believe you on your mpg the most I got was 24/25 mpg and I’m sure I could’ve had it climb
Hows the seat comfort? I have a 2014 and they're terrible, wondering if they've improved for those long drives?
Still uncomfortable
I enjoyed the video and honest feedback as I am shopping for this truck. What sliders are those that you have? I like the look and functionality for both on/off road protection.
Toyota PT767-35160 Running Board (Cast Aluminum) , you just have to add railing underneath to make the more comparable for rock sliding.
I keep waffling between the Tacoma and the Colorado z71 4wd. I keep leaning Tacoma because I want to keep it for a long time.
Just don’t expect as much power or towing ability
Tacoma all day. Go to Death Valley and see what boys drive. Colorado is good if you have chickens and want to keep them comfortable
get a taco. just got a 2019 trd OR in cavalry blue
Also side note. Damn that truck looks so good backed into the garage then the door shuts on it for no one to mess with !
Excellent and informative, thanks brother!
The hips don't lie.
Good review my dude
Cool for giving the ZR2 some love.
How bad are the defender's on-road characteristics?
@@jshaw6600 If you can come to terms with the fact that an off-road vehicle built in 1989 is not a modern vehicle on-road then you will be fine in it. I use it every day, yeah it is a bit loud, yeah it has rattles, yea you are not winning any races but it is fine for everyday use. Any specific characteristics you are curious about?
Get a ZR2 with a diesel and save yourself a bunch of money. AEV makes goodies for the ZR2.
Awesome video, very detailed 👍🏽👍🏽 what rock sliders are using??
mychan those are plastic side steps, not rock sliders.
I took those Kevlar tires off as fast as I could, they blow.
mpg computers are always inaccurate. it's always best to calculate by hand to verify you are indeed getting what the truck says you're getting.
Everything was hand calculated, same numbers.
thank you for the honest review and openness much appreciated I'm still trying to decide between this and a Chevy ZR2 or a Chevy Z71.
Great Video. I wish you had a drone. Question: How do you haul your surfboard? My longest board is a 9'4 nose rider.
I"ve really enjoyed these two videos. Thanks for taking the time!
I have the 2018 4x4 offroad tacoma and the offset bumper thing freaked me out as well happy to see it wasn't just me lol
i have an used 07 Tacoma with the same thing, that being said that bumper is solid and it never really bothered me
Ok,I assume that's the v-6,but I'm not sure,if your really not in a hurry, could it be the 4cyll ?I like the TRD pro,but I'm confused which trim is smart for me,I use it about like you do,hunting a couple days a year?
Im pretty sure they have some sort of service up there for you
Toyota PT767-35160 Running Board (Cast Aluminum) , you just have to add railing underneath to make the more comparable for rock sliding.
All those numbers were confirmed on paper. Actually my math gave me a tiny bit better MPG then the truck's computer.
@@cheynewalls But are you using the truck's odometer in your calculation, which can easily be 10% off.
@@Archer1346 Its never going to be 100% exact, but I have used all possible numbers, Hand calculated using Google maps mileages, Garmin GPS miles, the trucks odometer, trucks MPGs computer, gas pump numbers, ex..... It always comes out about the same.
Hi, what brand of rockslider (runningboard) did you put on? Thank you!
The steps are made by Toyota, Toyota PT767-35160 Running Board (Cast Aluminum) , I just added custom made railing underneath to make them more comparable for rock sliding.
Thank you!
The RPM on the highway is like 1500 just barely over idle. That's pretty awesome.

Awesome review. Very detailed and informative. Thanks
How much did you pay for your taco? I’m looking in getting the 2020 off-road taco
I worked alot with the dealer and was able to talk them down to $39,670
Thanks for the great video!
Great to hear! Enjoy the new truck, Cheers
think about the money you save on gas vs the extra time ur driving @55-60mpg losing minutes, hours, days of your life to save a few cents, extra mpg worth it?
By my rough calculation, based on the cost of gas shown, he saves roughly $13 per hour more spent driving 60 instead of 80 mph.
I wanted that color so badd but the salesman tells me 6 to 8 months for the pro😑
I end up with the next best thing trd off road 4x4
I didnt like to wait
I have a 2015 TRD i went and put a 3 inch lift on mine with a mud & snow tires rock sliders on it to brush guard on the front from ranch hand but don't have lockers that i know of my next project is getting them for mine i do extreme off roading i belong to a off roading club here I've learned alot from it to plus i have lightbar also made for mine
I’m soooo torn and ready to put a down between tacoma or a 4 runner 😩😩
Anonymous Suomynona same I can’t chose which one to get, their both so bad ass
I wonder if you can just pop that button on the steering wheel out and turn it so it makes more sense
Like that topper! Practical.
ZR2 is more comfortable and has more power, even handles better...doesn’t get the mileage the Tacoma gets and isn’t as refined as you say. Great “TRUCK” video.
? :)
J Lee Chronicles end of the day in a few years the zr2 will be just like the old zr2. Junk and canst sell for 2k. While the Tacoma will remain alive.
Hit a little bump in the ZR2 and the air bags go off 😂
Love the color of the truck.
😆 this guys is all “excuse me while I just live out my dream and dive around take crazy beautiful pics of nature and drive this awesome truck while you all guys watch”
which rock sliders are those? Great review betch

Are you having any sort of pulsation or vibration in your feet when you hit the breaks while the car is stopped, in reverse, or while driving at any speed?
No, nothing like that. You?
I do
I wonder if he is using the u.s. or imperial mpg setting? I have a light foot on the gas and coast a lot before using my brakes and I get an average of 22-23 mpg.
I'm 19, I don't have very many funds, I have been thinking of buying an old used tacoma any suggestions of year or make?
A 2019 Tacoma cost 33k new a 2016 with 50k miles on it cost 30k... save for new one that way you know it's taken care of and treated right. People submerge these, jump them, etc. People constantly try and test their indestructible reputation.
which rock slider do you have on? those are perfectly what ive been looking for

Hey so you put premium gas in yours ? Is that what it calls for ? Because I have a 2018 Tacoma but I use the regular stuff

@@cheynewalls gotcha man! I'll have to try that, I'm still wrapping my head around you getting 26mpg with a v6!! I have the 4 cylinder and I can hardly even get 19mpg.
Completely unrelated to your Tacoma question. What brand of jacket are you wearing in the video? I like the style of it.
NorthFace

How well does it carry people in rear seat compared to Chevy?
As mid-size trucks they are both a little tight. Wouldn't want spend much more than a 30 mins in either backseat. Kids are fine. I do think however the Toyota has a lot smoother ride, kind of helps the people in the backseat.
Nice camper dudé where do you buy it from?
SnugTop Rebel, I got mine at american camper shells. Cheers
Thank you 👍🏼

I enjoyed this review. I need to go back and watch the 2 month review.
I think you made a great decision considering all your options. Thanks for putting this up!
Hey man how much did you get the pro for
I own a 2018 TRD Pro and noticed my AC is also always freezing cold regardless of the temperature it is at.
Also to add to above, you won't get better fuel mileage out of a vehicle tuned for 87 octane
(Fan motor off)
Mine was two joints rubbing in the center dash. They just added a damper between the joints.
good honest review. i agree with almost everything. i hate how toyota takes forever to update its tech, but like you said it will last forever. i wouldnt sweat the tires, yank them off, sell them, and get Falken wild peak at/3 Ws. such a great tire , affordable , aggressive looking, and very silent on road. i also wouldnt care about the zr2 comparisons, the toyota will out last, out sell, and hold its value way better than a crappy chevy. those zr2 shocks will also cost a small fortune to replace after one gets destroyed with those stupid rear shock mounts that hang like 4 inches off the ground.
What brand hat is that? looks great!
