    I've watched enough Fast Lane Truck videos to know that Roman obviously doesn't care for Toyota and will find every excuse and or reason to plug the Ford Raptor whenever possible. I'm just super glad Nathan was there to handle the job when I know Roman would have gladly gave up and declared the Tacoma a failure. I wish Nathan could handle all of the off-road videos and driving, he's much better.

      billy heaton Yes, the TRD Tacomas are very popular and the sales leader in the midsize segment, have been for some time now. The Tacoma has had success as an alternative to a full size truck (1500) or bigger. With a world wide reputation for reliability and one of the best resale values out there. I don't think the Tacoma owner is interested in using their Tacoma as their primary work truck. That's what the 2500 and 3500 trucks are for.

      Roman shouldn't be in front of the camera period. He's a control freak, lacks knowledge and is very awkward. This channels would be better if he stayed behind the camera.

    To me, these videos are exactly for the majority of people out there who are going to drive their stock truck up trails while doing other things, as well as having some fun. That's the value of these videos. They show how different stock trucks handle in similar environments.

      I agree. My family has stood by Toyota since 2007 with the first one being a RAV4 and now a Camry. We're city folk, so you have to understand. But I've also heard great things about their trucks like this one and the Tundra. Real heritage considering that Asian culture is very similar to Native American culture.

    I did Cliffhanger 3.0 in Nevada during early season elk hunt using 2WD in my 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad. Roads steeper, more rocks (and bigger), loads more ruts and a LOT more narrower (have mountain mahogany scratches to prove it) ....no problems. I also had four full size humans in the cab to boot.

  • @weialles_weinix3900
    @weialles_weinix3900 8 лет назад +66

    I know you take the trucks as they were delivered. But wouldn't it be more objective to take always the same offroad tires for your cliffhanger test. So you really find out which truck is most offroad capable. Everytime you have to compare tires. In my opinion its out of purpose.

    • @TFLtruck
      @TFLtruck  8 лет назад +21

      We agree with you using the same tires on all of our tests, but we live on youtube and that's just not in our budget. You are of course welcome to support us www.patreon.com/tflcar so that we could afford to buy tires for testing. ;-)

      @weialles_weinix3900 8 лет назад +2

      Prudhvi Krishna Surapaneni
      I'm sure there would be no conflict, because when they always have the same type of tires they can compare trucks.
      In many videos especially 'the cliffhanger' they have to tell, 'because of the tires.......' That sucks to me because thsy cannot show what the truck is even able to do.
      The best example is that the formula 1 has only one tire company (again). With one tire company you will get a real comparison.

    • @sonictech1000
      @sonictech1000 8 лет назад +4

      I think it's a fool's errand to chase perfect fairness in this sort of thing. They are testing on different days and thus different conditions and taking slightly different lines. Even if they did them on the same day the second, third truck etc would have ruts and holes created by the first one to deal with. Even if they spent a week and thousands of dollars getting it all as perfect as humanly possible it would only tell you which truck was best under those exact conditions and it would be boring to watch.

  • @djfliq1
    @djfliq1 8 лет назад

    i think this is one of the best tests for the new taco i have seen. taco owners don't want to see a course setup in favor of the truck because we are going to immediately take the truck into unfavorable conditions. thank you so much because this was the best toyota had to offer and us taco owners know exactly what to do with our trucks after watching. Great job guys!!!

    Thanks for showing us the dash this time. Its a tough situation out there; no weight in the back, full pressure on tires that are barely AT (seriously Toyota, pro tires they are not) plus it looks like all the moisture has been sucked out of the dirt on account of the fall temps means no grip, even with great traction systems.

    Ive learned over my years of Off-Roading is that its all about the driver. I have drove 2x4 vehicles and made it places a 4x4 would have issues with. You need to know how to operate your vehicle inside and out. Just because you have a TRD Pro, doesnt mean you know and can navigate all terrains w/o the proper knowledge.

  • @cfrb
    @cfrb 8 лет назад +8

    Tacoma offroad features are a bit tricky, the reason front end was not gripping was because it was in rear diff lock. It does not have front locker because they have e-lockers through Multi-terrain system. However, Multi Terrain system disables if the rear is locked, and front becomes open differential, hence it was spinning on one side. So you could try the trail with MTS only. it should let you control the speed yourself, how much slippage you want, and let the computer figure out which tire to send power to.

    • @Bradington
      @Bradington 8 лет назад

      I noticed this too. Also, even when they did activate the MTS, they did not select the "rock" feature setting, which would have been the most conservative ABS setting to reduce wheel slippage.

    • @cfrb
      @cfrb 8 лет назад +5

      ya, sometimes I wish they would spend a little more time learning about the system before jumping to make a video and then complaining the truck doesn't work, and looking for another excuse to plug in their raptor.

    • @dustinmarazzito7184
      @dustinmarazzito7184 8 лет назад +4

      rear locker and MTS... no problem. They never use all of the tools in the Toyota Tool Box

    • @HumbertoYi0878
      @HumbertoYi0878 8 лет назад +1

      Dustin Rachell Marazzito rear locker and MTS don't play together, it disables the E locker (hilarious.... no such thing, but toyotas term). It's a combo of not knowing the trucks off-road system, but more glaringly, a bad decision to essentially make the rear locker worthless by toyota

    • @cfrb
      @cfrb 8 лет назад

      ATRAC has to be turned on separately after switching the rear diff locks in 4runner, so it acts like front and rear locker. I am not sure about tacoma though, but should be similar.

    Here's my experience with CRAWL control in my 2013 4Runner Trail: You need to give it time to work and figure things out. The longer it's on and working, the more it learns. Getting yourself stuck and turning on CRAWL control for a few seconds and giving up when it doesn't work isn't the way it's meant to be used. Case in point: Two winters ago, I was driving around with my wife and two friends in the 4Runner. While trying to show off the capabilities of the 4Runner and my Goodyear Duratracs, I willingly drove off the road into a nearly five foot snow bank created by the road plows hoping to make it through another 4 feet of powdery snow for a while to prove my driving skills. Physics and ground clearances kicked in and I quickly found myself buried to the frame, with all 4 wheels barely gripping anything. I tried everything I could do... ATRAC, diff lock, multi-terrain. I wasn't budging. So I shut all the electronic stuff off, including the diff lock, left it in 4-Lo, and switched on CRAWL control when I was in reverse (because forward wasn't an option considering I had snow piled over my hood and covering my windshield.) At first, there was nothing but loud grunting, vibration, and grinding noises. Everyone in the truck was freaking out and grabbing cellphones looking for the nearest tow truck. I told them to give the truck a few minutes while it figured things out, and they all thought I was crazy. But sure as shit, after about 5 minutes with the CRAWL control on, we suddenly felt rearward movement of about an inch. There was a long pause full of grinding and noise, then another inch was gained. Then out of nowhere, the 4Runner backed itself out through our previous path like nothing was wrong. Not only was everyone else in the truck amazed, but my head nearly exploded because I had never used CRAWL in a situation like this and honestly thought I was screwed. My point is... LET THE SYSTEM WORK. It uses information from all 4 wheels separately to figure out what needs to be done to get itself unstuck. It's a truly amazing system when used properly. There's plenty of RUclips videos that prove my point. Either way, good job for making it up that trail. I love your channel.

    Last comment was a year ago but what the hell here goes. I just bought a 2018. I purchased this baby not for hardcore off road use but more for peace of mind, I've been on trails, ending up stuck and digging out or pulling which I had no intention of doing for play, not a good feeling. Having a truck capable of getting me out of a sticky situation is the main reason I got the Tacoma TRD Off Road. Got stuck in a lava flow in a 1991 Nissan 300zx once, but that's another story!

      K. Theodos Some would argue the 4runner is more capable. Crawl control has been an option on the 4runner since 2010, I believe, so it's not a new feature. Not to mention the 4runner has a better break over angle due to its shorter wheelbase and I believe a better departure angle.
