Here's what I'd add: - there are "washer-dryer" appliances, but they have verrrrry long cycle times, and they leave your clothes damp. You still need to have space for a clothes drying rack. - To us, the most important thing is to locate near a supermarket, which you may be visiting daily. - To get a reasonably good estimate of square footage, just multiply the square meters by 10.
I also heard that there’s washer dryers that will dry your clothes up into a ball and you’ll have to iron? Is that the washer dryer you mean? Great notes to add! Very helpful! Thanks for watching!
Omg lots of lessons were learned when we rushed into our temporary rental in Palma de Mallorca! Biggest thing for us was NOISE. There was a restaurant below us that would throw late night 5AM after parties and the bar was right underneath our bedroom. And a underground night club across the street with bars everywhere. Every night I could feel our bed vibrating. I just about LOST my mind 😅 We got a noise machine which helped until we moved out after two months (broke our lease) And also -we rented furnished and it’s SO important to check the age and quality of the furniture! Our dog got a dust mite infection and lost a bunch of fur. 😢 the carpet was so gross looking and that’s where her bed was. Big mistake!

I stayed at a condo in Madrid that had a Bosch washer dryer combo. The dryer lint trap had never been cleaned and was packed with almost 2 inches of Lint. Also, instead of using magnets to secure the window screen, you could use velcro. If the adhesive for the velcro is too weak, you could use a silicon adhesive like E6000 to apply them. You may need to check with your landlord first. I've used 2 inch velcro for every foot of screen.

With all due respect I found that many of your comments in this video are applicable to city living Anywhere, not just in Valencia attractive though it may be.. After 12 years in West London, I can attest to that. As far as "Location, Location" is concerned, I think one has to have priorities, for me an apartment has to b "liveable" ie: somewhere I feel comfortable in and am pleased to return to, with enough space to move about freely, but close to amenities and above all affordable. We have all heard stories of a bed/sit in a converted "broom closet", in a former "office block", in a prime location opposite "Harrod's" in London, with a purchase price well in excess of £100,000...!! Not for me even if I had had the money..!!
Thank you for sharing your insights. This was our first year in Europe and our list are what stood out to us as outsiders. We’re hoping that this video can help people who, like us, have never been to Europe before.

My two cents… PLEASE STOP PAYING THE OUTRAGEOUS RENTAL FEES, and stop being ok with 2,000 and up rent. You’re driving up costs for locals. We went to rent a condo and the renter there said her unit was 700.00 euros and they are asking 1500 now because they know foreigners will pay. Landlords see money signs with foreigners. Not all, but most for sure. Locals really suffer when we come here and drive up costs like this. Don’t pay the crazy rents. PLEASE DONT! Also, put your foot down, there’s no need to pay a years rent up front. We paid one month down, one month to the realestate company, one months rent, on a brand new house. Yes, new house in the city (rare find), but we put our foot down and didn’t pay that year they asked for initially. Be careful with realtors and looking online. You can add a smart lock on your door. They sell them on Amazon. Great video!
Fantastic tips! It’s sad that landlords are doing this 😞 It’s so hard to find realtors you can trust. Thanks for the smart lock too! Such great tips 🙏🏼
EES Method, it's not that we want to drive up the rental cost but unfortunately we have to pay what they're asking for otherwise you don't get it, other person will get it. Finding apartments in Valencia right now it's very difficult specially if you are not working here so guess what...only option is to pay a year's rent at once.
Some aren’t the best quality, but there are some reallllly nice ones too, just not in our budget. We’re lucky to be where we are, ours was renovated in 2021.
@@EverythingIsBoffo Question for renting an apartment. Is it normal for real estate agents to ask for cash ? My friend just moved to Valencia and is having a hard time to find an apartment. Her real estate agent asks for cash. It doesn't make any sense to me. What is legal procedure there to lease an apartment as US citizen ?
@JamesBond-pm2lo Your friend should double-check if that's legit there. Better safe than sorry, especially since she's from the US and might not be familiar with all the local rules. Also, she could ask for a signed invoice each month to prove payment. One person I know refused and preferred sending rent through Wise, which the landlord agreed to. If she’s open to it, using Wise could be a smart move - it’s what some folks opt for to keep things hassle-free and secure. Here’s our referral link: wise.com/invite/ihpc/pauls5040
@@JamesBond-pm2lo no that’s not normal. Cash never came up in any convo with the agents, and we talked to 15 of them. I wouldn’t pay an agent cash, unless they can provide me a receipt.
It’s actually very first world, public transportation is amazing, the city offers plenty to do, cost of living is low, universal healthcare so people never have to worry when they are sick. It’s a very good way to live. But as it’s an old city (and country), there’s apartments that are not as modern or have not been renovated yet. You can choose to rent in a newer build, there’s plenty being built right now.

I can't agree more
Fantastic tips!

@@esonicsound Hiring a relocation agent will help prevent that. Friends that used an agent only paid 1 month. Good luck on your search!
Basically sounds like apartments in Valencia suck.
Could you please give me the name & address of your English speaking veterinarian? I am bringing my cat with me.
You can find them on google, Clinica Veterinaria El Carmen, Calle Plaza de Vicente Iborra 4. They were amazing!
Like a third world country, what an awful way to live.
