Yes absolutely saving so much money still compared to the US. Some food items have gone up a bit, 1 trip to the grocery store last year would cost 40, now it’s 50€ for a cartful of stuff. Still quite reasonable. When we dine out our bill hovers around 27-40€. Used to be 23€. We save the most by not having a car. We don’t pay for gas, parking, tickets, repairs, car wash, etc. we get around by walking or bus/metro. We also found a gym membership that costs 109€ for 15 months, so what used to be 35/month is now around 7/month. So I guess that evens outs the food costs.

As a US citizen you’re gonna be doomed to double taxation regardless of where you go. You’ll have to pay taxes in the country you live, and to our greedy AF country cause that’s just how they want it. Even if you don’t live or work in the US, you’re still forced to pay taxes to the US. Spain has a high income tax too so you’ll be subject to that. I believe Portugal has better taxation policies where if you go on a D-7 visa or a golden visa, you won’t get tax in Portugal the first year, and then you’ll get reduced taxation for the following 2 years? I might be wrong on the last one but they have like a treaty to make it easier on tax payers. You can’t escape taxes sadly but you can escape this miserable life filled with consumerism in the US 🤷🏻♀️ there are plenty of options on visas and stuff, watch different channels and you’ll see 😀
@@michellemorrison9663 a US citizen won’t be double taxed in Spain, as there is a tax treaty. You will have to file a US tax return, but the first 100k of foreign income is not taxed by the US, and after that, you will pay the higher rate between the two countries (which will be Spain).

Excellent video. Thank you. We are 66YO retired educators (from LA), visiting Poland and Estonia after helping a new school open in Lviv. We are seriously thinking of selling our Portland condo and moving to Europe. We appreciate the safety, walkability, and excellent healthcare offered in Spain. Is renting a better option than owning a home for expats in Spain? We always wanted to own, but now it seems that putting the cash in CDs is wiser than purchasing a home. Plus the healthcare is better in Spain than in the US. Your thoughts? Dean & Cindy
If I could, I’d buy a home now before prices go way up. But also, that’s because we really love living here and want to stay permanently. But if you want to explore first and travel, renting may be a better option for the first few years.
You guys may want to update your cost comparison to San Diego. It has become untenable to live here now. Lucky for the wife and I we’re both retired and have no home mortgage to pay since we paid off our house right before we retired. We bought a Tesla using my retirement bonus and don’t have to buy gas. We were recently in Porto for three weeks and their food cost both in the groceries and restaurants are slightly lower, but it’s not Valencia. We will be in Valencia for 2 weeks on January 2025. Thank you! Yes definitely need to take the salary into consideration. But the opportunity to actually purchase a flat here is closer to reality than back in CA.
Paying more for unhealthy food that can kill you or make you obese is absurd. Paying more for mediocre housing that may lead to hoarding due to laziness and overdadvertising is just as bad. Paying for overpriced cars that can't even be driven at high speeds in many cases. Smoking weed/cigs, drinking alcohol, doing (pharmacy) drugs, etc. Each of these can easily keep you stuck and the list goes on. The U.S. is not going to last long with this approach.
There's a massive difference in lifestyles, and we feel lucky to be here in Spain. We haven't had or needed a car for 2 years now, and haven't felt the pressure that we felt in CA. Most importantly, we sleep well knowing that we will not have medical debt as long as we live here in Spain.
Videos like this I find annoying. You compare San Diego CA, a known super expensive city to valencia. Who don't you compare valencia to Tampa Florida? Secondly, you are comparing post tax costs not pre tax costs Living in Florida on 100k of income will leave you with 90k in post tax income. Living in valencia on 100k of income will leave you with 65k post tax. And good luck finding a job in valencia paying that amount of money. This video is misleading and should be relabeled to compare valencia to san Diego, not US vs. Spain
We only lived in California and have visited Florida a few times and never really knew it enough to compare. If we made a video comparing Tampa to Valencia, then that would be misleading and probably more annoying. Apologies if this video created confusion. We’re not in any way professionals so this free video should be taken with a grain of salt. Appreciate the feedback! 🙏🏼
1. Tampa has like 350k residents to Valencia's 812k and San Diego's 1.26m residents, that comparison would make absolutely no sense. Due to inflation fluctuation that occurs especially in a capitalist driven economy such as America. THOUGH not the BEST comparison, OP simply is using the knowledge they have to inform people who may have been wondering. They never said its end all be all. 2. post tax costs... are being compared because European countries rarely have a "pretax cost" the posted prices...already include the tax. 3. If you didn't enjoy the video..make your own, fix what you didn't like.
Hola.
I've been traveling to Spain regularly for 23 years. I love Spain and the last thing I want to experience is expat Americans, particularly Californians. All these video sites tell you about how much cheaper it is to live in Spain. What about talking about Spain and not tubs of yogurt. It's as if Spain is Barçelona, Madrid and Valencia. Don't encourage people to move to Spain if they have never made the effort to learn Spanish and know nothing of its culture and history. What are Americans now economic migrants? Stop this insidious, destruction of affordable living for Spaniards in the cities mentioned above. You are destroying life for the long term residents of these cities, particularly the elderly.
Humans enjoy travel and will explore, and try new places. Unless there is law to prevent it, you can’t stop it. Feel free to become part of the government and effect change as needed, otherwise you should keep your unsolicited opinions to yourself.
You are comparing one of the most expensive states in the US (California) and one of the most expensive cities in California (San Diego) with Valencia (Spain), makes no sense. If you compare California with Spain it's wrong, you need to compare California with top European countries and not southern european countries. If you compare the cheaper states in the US with the cheaper countries in Europe....the US is still way cheaper than Europe. If you live in California and you are looking for a cheaper place...you just move to a different state and problem solved, you don't need to move to Europe.

@@Ligucis306 ah well, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
U forgot to mention the most important factor: the differences in income
I’m pretty sure if you watched the video, you’d see it 🙏🏼
Paying more for unhealthy food that can kill you or make you obese is absurd.
I love you ❤
Videos like this I find annoying. You compare San Diego CA, a known super expensive city to valencia. Who don't you compare valencia to Tampa Florida?
Secondly, you are comparing post tax costs not pre tax costs
Living in Florida on 100k of income will leave you with 90k in post tax income.
regardless, spain is cheaper
@@JordanPainDelehant thank you!
Se va a quedar u.s.a vacia si se van tantos inmigrantes yankis🤣

dear god i'd take Valencia 100% over Florida....Gators, snakes, crime...no thanks
