I just realized something. The mysterious 'Father' character was first seen in Luna's dreams, and they had to fly *past* the sun and the stars to even find him.
Is... Is their father an Outer God? Is Celestia the Wilbur Whateley of this series? That would explain a lot...
That was the first thing that came to my mind, but I haven't been able to spot anything that proves it, and Celestia thought it was "a monster pretending to be their dad" so it throws some confusion into things...
I'm honestly not really sure what to think about the whole deal with their dad. The thing was, it was a story from a book written by a little kid within an already fictional/parodied version of the MLP:FiM world, so you could probably interpret it just about any way you want to. I know Greg was always great at continuity callbacks in his stuff, so maybe there will be future bits of content that will clarify some things. Just have to wait and see I guess.

To explain some of your questions, bear in mind that this is The Star in Yellow as written by MAS's Celestia, not canon Celestia, so it's about the MAS Celestia's past.
As for your question early on about the masked pony in the library, it's a Masked Guard, first seen in the Equestria Primates Preview (which is something you should totally watch, btw. The idea didn't go anywhere, but it's worth seeing on its own merits.)

Ah, forgot about the masked pony in that. Sorry, can't remember every detail of everything I've watched. XD And yeah, that's actually a good point about how it's the MAS version of Celestia that wrote the book, hadn't thought of that angle.
Yellow Star´s journal kind of feels like Tom Riddles journal, part of their younger selves trapped in the pages of a magic journal and consume the mind of the one who uses it culminating in them escaping the journal, does these version of Celestia have Horocruxes, it does seem like she would :S, also i believe that they didnt reference nothing from the negative series in these RDP just in case you were wondering about it
Hmm, I hadn't even thought about negative series references. The references seemed to be focused on previous RDP episodes and actual canon content that's occurred while RDP was on hiatus. Makes me kind of wonder where this episode fits in the timeline.
So I believe it was more animators than just Petirep. Like a team of 5 or so + Greg. Petirep did the beginning and end, and directed the whole thing. Greg goes through it all in his latest "time with Greg". Also that book rainbow is reading in the beginning title might be a reference of some tips Petirep gave to the other animators to keep it all consistent.
At the end, when Greg says "There you go, now you know, watch our show, you are free to go" is a reference to Peel Off and his Nanalyze series, which you should totally add to your reaction list for the hiatus : )

Aaaah..it was so refreshing to see this come to fruition. Considering how much time was between Bittersweet and this. It was just filled with so much goodness that make Greg(and co)'s content so great to watch. In the stream they said they didn't plan to do this, it just sort of happened, and if there is any future ones it'll be just like this...unplanned and just done.
And also, I would like to add.
HOW COME NO ONE ASKS WHY A MASKED GUARD IS GUARDING THE LIBRARY? Those motherfuckers are in the catacombs protecting the inter-dimensional mirror portal and who knows whatever else is down there.

I have honestly no idea what in the world she was doing. Though there's lots of references to "special games, with special rules, doing special dances, and singing special songs". And their father is apparently an outer god if they had to go past the stars to reach him. So...eeeeeeeeh, probably something better not knowing anyways, it certainly looks like a kiloton of "fucking nope".
Also, no idea if you ever noticed. But that reading space Twilight is in at night when we see that Spike can't see Yellow Star is in the shape of a brain...visual representation of her being trapped in her mind, poetry, and all that.

I looked through the barn events. The main house/barn was only destroyed twice, once by parasprites in Swarm of the Century, and again in Apple Family Reunion. The barn that Rainbow Dash essentially nuked was a secondary barn somewhere else on the property, and the one being raised (and subsequently destroyed mid-raising) in Too Many Pinkie Pies also appeared to be a secondary one, could even have been the one that was intended to replace the one Dash nuked.
