Im a Spurs supporter and that doesn’t stop me appreciating just how good Ian Wright was. He definitely deserved to go to major International Tournaments. He was one of the best. He played at the same time as Lineker and Shearer but he was at that same level. Incredible striker and with great character. Yes he was good. Not saying he was not.
But against the world's best he is not.

That’s how you need to be to win a tournament. It’s not about beating every other team. It’s about being difficult to beat & being boring.
Argentina proved that. Italy have been doing it for 150 years.
You’re acting like England are 1970s Brazil. Those days are long gone. If you go into a knockout tournament trying to win every game 5-0 and attack like club football; you’ll be going out first round more often than not.
Southgate is boring, and he is defensive. Nobody disagrees; but that’s how you win tournaments. Keep in mind they lost the euros via penalty shootout. They were literally one kick away from winning it and then you’d be classing him as the 2nd best manager England ever had. You’re the dictionary definition of a football fan.

In the 90s? It could have been a factor though I personally don't think it was that. Black people weren't really seen as British till the 00s. I grew up in the 90s, Black people being 2nd class citizens was the norm back then. The only thing I'll give Tony Blair credit for is he got rid of the "Us Vs them" mentality in this Country and really only the Boomers still have it but that's because they lived so long with being allowed to be openly racist. The majority of the time, Black and Asian people are right with the 'race card' it's just people don't want to hear it rather than them actually disagreeing with it

I don't buy that. The pressure to win is too high to not want to pick your best team. 90s had a lot of good strikers and a lot of odd decisions. Even Carlton Palmer got a game, despite being black and despite being useless. And as a public, we generally took Wright into our hearts. He even had a really bad talk show for a bit. Not many footballers get that.

England managers are generally useless when it comes to picking players. The whole back five of Arsenal should have been staples in the England team (though I'd keep Pearce as left back) In 92 Wright should have went at least over Smith (his strike partner) as he statistically done better. In 96, Wright should have gone instead of Ferdinand, and Keown should have gone instead of Southgate or Howey (

Ian Wright was the most exciting striker to watch back in the late 80's early 90's he scored all sorts of goals, volleys, headers, overhead kicks, and was a very good finisher 1on1 with the keeper. Oh he had fantastic pace also. But they kept licking shearers bollox. Yes shearer was very good but no pace and had everything ball into his feet or head. Boring af England were after 96 without a secondary striker like Owen, even fowler didn't get a proper opportunity damn we had some sick strikers them days.
