I don't understand why visitors are ignoring the child. Many regiments at one time, had a uniformed child as a mascot, and were given ranks to give orders to troops. It was all done in good humor. Usually the child was an orphan of a soldier.
@Jan-qy5rk my grandfather was in the 15th Kings Hussars in 1880 through 1924. His Regiment in the 1600s had a Commanding Officer who was 12 years old, and the troops " loved him". In the Crimean War ( The Charge of the Light Brigade), an officer was wounded, and was found to be a woman. I think the nurse was Florence Nightingale.( from. The History of the xvth Kings Hussars, 1895. ( if I remember correctly. I am in my 80s, so I might be mis remembering.

The way Master Frank IMMEDIATELY turns about to face the guard when he hears him is THE BEST!!! Much love to the young man AND his parents!!! Visiting your wonderful country many years ago was a highlight of my life.
What a wonderful and respectful boy. The Gaurds respect was spectacular. He better not get in trouble for this because these touches of humanity warm my heart, all all the way across the seas. As a subject of the King and a Canadian, I am pleased by the new Guard Frank impeccably doing his routine in all the dignity that his position oblige. I think the King can rest assured now with Frank on duty.
