    Speaking of Belgium my dad was a medic in WWII. I remember he had on the wall an award document from the governing council of Antwerp in appreciation. But otherwise he didnt speak much of those years. To be sure he saw many horrors. He passed at 92 in 2002🙏

    At one point they got more attention than the English guards and that could not be the intention, the Belgian soldiers felt a bit uncomfortable with that. Hence, they left quickly after a few photos. Historically, there has almost always been a very good relationship between England and Belgium. Despite the fact that the Counts of Flanders had to answer to the French kings, they were usually inclined to form an alliance with England.

      there will be a book of protocol involving saluting an inch thick; and most service staff know the important and common day to day regulations regarding saluting. This situation gets complex service members from different countries, were they there officially as part of an invited foreign delegation, were they filling in a couple of hours unofficially between their other duties in London, so do they go formal and salute, if they are there in an unofficial capacity? They thought is was probably better to forget it.... and they were most likely to be correct

    I honestly would hate to have to do that job. You're trying to honor and represent your Nation as a guard, believing in the honor and value of all the long standing traditions for your regiment. But in reality you are thrown into the crowd as a tourist attraction and you know 80% of the people see you as a cute relic and instagram opportunity... It must be a great moment, when fellow soldiers come along that appreciate and understand though.

    • @colonelfustercluck486

      it would do your head in very quickly. Containing yourself from making sarcastic remarks is the worst. And figuring out where you would hide the bodies if you could have your way. That is all stressful.
      They are there to guard the place... not joke with tourists and being pleasant to the idiot ones. If you have ever been in uniform you will know that it has a magnetic quality to idiots.
      This is allowed in this case as it is a hugely popular tourist attraction and makes some money for the nation.

      King's guard RUclips channels have a primary goal of gaining viewership at the expense of disparaging foreigners over some perceived slight. Once in a while, they actually post content that does not disparage tourists. This appears to be one such post.
      The channel author sets the tone by creating a thumbnail and title that drives the narrative, and 90% of the commenters, like lemmings charging off a cliff into the ocean, follow this narrative ... And then there's you.

    Aan die Belgische militairen... Was er een reden, dat jullie in die outfit londen gingen bezichtigen? Waarom niet gewoon in burgerkleding? (Jammer dat die vorige, groene cammo weg is. Dat was de mooiste oufit die er was)

    • @daddyjohan911
      @daddyjohan911 4 месяца назад +2

      @MIRANDAFONSO a salute has to be returned. So you should not salute a soldier that is under orders not to move. So yes, all the us-presidents that salute marines when they enter or leave their helicopter are wrong. Serious breach of protocol.

    • @fonslibert6041

      No disrespect meant but those Belgians were all sergeants so maybe the guard should have saluted them? :-) But to be fair, the white ribbon under their rank identifies them as candidate career NCO's from Belgium's NCO school in Saffraanberg, Belgium. As long as they wear that ribbon they are candidates and lower ranks do not have to salute them. They themselves only have to salute higher ranks from sergeant and up and i am sure they would have done so if the guard was wearing rank insignia.

    Surprised they did not pull the horse and replace it as it is clear it was in distress of some sort based on how it was acting. BIT could have been lodged odd or something else caught pinching in that area.
