    Without doubt the best video of how to setup for HUE lights I have seen. Clear, simple and it WORKS. Brilliant. Thank you. Question. What "colour" settting do you do for the lights? are they 100% bright white or do you use colour etc?

    • @alexkayracing

      Hey mate thanks so much for watching! When you use light sync on your PC it completely takes control of the colour and behaviour of your lights. You can however raise or lower over brightness of the effect with the slider in the PC app, in case the lights are too bright or dim for your taste

    Awesome video! Thank you very much!
    I had the HUE lights mainly for night driving but recently switched to UV LEDs for illuminating my wheel buttons and now the HUE lights are setup for daytime driving. It works GREAT! I don't like that you have to switch back and forth for day and night. Can it be in one setup/configuration?

    • @alexkayracing
      @alexkayracing  7 месяцев назад

      You can probably try to use the daytime configuration during the night and see if it works for you. I always found that the daytime version doesn’t pick up the lights in the night so well. Have a play with it and see how it goes for you!

    Hey Alex, super grateful for you posting this! I was one of the guys on r/simracing badgering you for this video! So thanks again for taking the time to make it. I had a quick question if you wouldn't mind: I see that you have borders/shades on your Hue lights. I just wanted to ask what was your rationale behind that particular choice. Is it to help diffuse the light and have it not shining directly into your eyes?
    For context, I have the long outdoor Hue strip (the one that Boosted Media recommended) as well as two Hue play bars (that I'm still trying to ideally position, right now I have them mounted behind me, but am considering moving them.) The strip is pretty bright above me (mounted along the perimeter of my small race room) but I've noticed that it can be a little distracting to have the lights directly in my view. I'm wondering if I should attempt to find a way to diffuse/shade the lighting myself.

    • @alexkayracing
      @alexkayracing  Год назад +1

      Hey mate thanks for watching!
      They are blinkers, I use them to stop the hue lights shining light onto the monitors, which causes glare. The blinkers prevent this.
      Personally I am not a fan of the Hue Strip, it’s long, cumbersome and hard to manipulate it’s light.
      The hue play bars give you the ability to pinpoint where you want the light to shine, they just end up being more expensive if you buy multiple sets is all.
      I would say try how I’ve done it and let me know if it works better for you. Always remember that less is more. Too much bright light and it feels fake, you just want that slight indication/feeling of light, that’s what causes the immersion.

    • @cptstardog3553
      @cptstardog3553 Год назад +1

    • @alexkayracing
      @alexkayracing  8 месяцев назад

      Hey mate thanks for watching! I found that placing it in the area I did worked much better than when using a manual capture area in the day time.
      Manual capture actually behaves very erratically for example even if you set the capture area to the dash of your car, when you drive next to a rumble strip or grass it will take the green and red colours from those it’s very unreliable.
      Just remember that the height of where you set the little dots in the app will depend on your FOV and what seating height you’re using in game, you might have to move them slightly up or down.

    This is perfect timing...Been doing the sim racing POV content for nearly 10 years and was looking for the next improvement to the rig. I actually bought the Philips Hue Play bars and bridge yesterday which is arriving tomorrow and found this an incredibly well laid out video which will no doubt help tomorrow. Question, the one area that has always frustrated me is trying to get the 4k gopro helmet POV crispy and clear. After all these years Ive tried pretty much everything but have yet not been happy with my outcomes. Ive tried various ISO, framerates, stabilisation, horizon levelling tips for low light shooting, but my footage is never as clear as others and also yours. Would you be able to provide some details on your GoPro settings please or point me in the direction of a good source of information? Your footage is what I've been after for many many years but never come anywhere close. I have pretty good lighting in my rig, Elgato lights, diffused LEDs etc but nothing seems to help my Hero Black 11 in Low Light. Thanks for the video, excellent, subbed as I love seeing others share their racing passion.

      @@alexkayracing I do, I have an Elgato Key Light directly above the rig. Latest video was more a test getting back into the rig...I've not really been doing much sim racing the last few months, burnt myself out, so that one was more of a test as new AC mods, updates etc have arrived. I hate plugging my own channel, the rig isnt anything compared to yours, i've not really done much to it over the last few years but it's in desperate need of some love. I do have a rig guide give you an idea of the lighting, tomorrow I'll be popping the Philips Hue Play bars on either side of the hood. Will start with 2 and see how we go.

      well,this is one of the most tempermental things ever trying to get the posistions correct. Why on earth the hue lights think they should be blue in the middle of the day is beyond me. Not having much joy here i'll be honest, easy to setup, but a pain in the rear end to get the positiong correct.

    • @alexkayracing
      @alexkayracing  Год назад

      @@TonyTurbo78 hi mate did you try changing the later position in the entertainment area slightly ?

    • @TonyTurbo78
      @TonyTurbo78 Год назад

      @alexkayracing hey buddy, yeah I've tried moving both the lights height position in the app from the bottom to the very top, I'm just not getting accurate colour representation and even correct dimming when going through shadows cast on the track. It seems the window for the correct position of picking up the light change on the top of dashboard is so small. It would be so much easier if the ap just asked you to click a precise point you want rhe play bars to pick up. I also tried capturing an area of the screen with the bottom of the dotted box at the very area I wanted to the to be triggered on and then moved my left and right positions in the app to the bottom of the TV but it still just doesn't pick up correct colours. Using ACC and Monza at 7am was a good test, but for some reason, the lights were mainly blue or green and not bright yellow or orange coming out of the shadows into the sun. It's weird mate. And another thing I found happening is the lights would pick up on the glow from the RPM dial on the dash when getting into redline territory. Even moving the positions of the left and right play bars on the app to be slightly away from the center hasn't really worked. Not had much luck so far but will persevere today.
      Are you using nvidia surround for the triples or without? I'm wondering if this would change where you'd need to put the little positions on the app, although it really shouldn't as the screen sections should be exactly the same.

    @anthcesana Год назад +1

    Hey Alex, thanks for the video mate. I've always wondered how other people are setting up their Hue lights. We've spoken about this before, but now I have a chance to try all your settings as mine are pretty different in the way the phone app lights are positioned as well as using the Video function rather than Game. A couple of questions:
    1. In the day time capture, do you use the calibration box at all? It's not shown in the video, so I wonder if this was either left out or are the position of the bars in the phone app responsible for all light capture?
    2. The idea of setting a static light for the in car UV light is brilliant! I love that. How do we select only one Hue light bar to sync, while leaving the other one static? I've never even thought of this let alone try it.
    3. What's the purpose of the screen capture within the sim and making it the wallpaper? Do you use the calibration box on that wallpaper? From experience this can be done while you're in the sim, eliminating an unnecessary step. However, it's a great tip for some of the games that don't actually allow the capture box to work within the game, so another good idea there!
    I'm going to give these settings a crack now, nice work!

    • @alexkayracing
      @alexkayracing  Год назад +3

      Hey mate thanks for watching! Okay so:
      1. In day time we don’t use the capture box, the calibration done for the lights on the phone app should get you the result that you need!
      2. You can make multiple entertainment areas in the phone app (unlimited I believe). So you make a new entertainment area and only have one light selected for it.
      That way when you turn on the light sync (make sure you have that entertainment area selected, not your daytime one), only the one light will be synced, and the rest are free to do whatever you want with them!
      3. As mentioned in the video, we use the screenshot so that we can know exactly where to drag our manual capture box so that the part of the dash covered in light (at night time) is located at the bottom of the box! You can obviously change your wallpaper back after doing this, but you might need to do it again when using a different car etc because the light touches the dash of each car differently at times!
      Best of luck mate hope this answers everything for you 😃

      @@simracingden have you tried them in ACC, it’s so scary when you have damage your lights are flickering when you brake 😂

    I use 4 Light Bars like yours. I find assigning the capture area so frustrating. Why not just make it larger. But whatever

      Thanks for watching mate. The problem with making it too big is that the lights will start to pick up unwanted colours like the grass or red barriers when you drive next to them!

      @@alexkayracing ya, I understand that concept. I am referring to the space or virtual screen on the app GUI should be bigger so we can place lights easier (if that makes sense). Informative video though. I ma going to experiment with light placement of two lights from the side, and make some shrouds for them

      @@rtimmins7212 OH sorry I misunderstood! Yeah the layout of that app is horrible. It should be doable on the pc I stand and you should just be able to put on the screen exactly where you want each light to face. Hopefully in the future they’ll add this feature
