Just to be clear regarding FPS. My FPS is fine for the majority of a race but at the start with all the cars visible it drops. I could lower the graphics settings and get a consistent 165fps, but as I mentioned in the video that's not my priority right now 😁
@@tamaslichtenberger8529hahaha I laugh in my 3070 lol. Yeah go crank every setting under the sun to ultra (which most of them you can't even see their effect or the difference between high and ultra) and then come nag in here lol
Guys it's poor optimization of iracing. I've analyzed my 4090 utilization while running 2x4K, and it doesn't get above 30 percent, even when there are frame drops. The game is optimized very poorly.
As a single screen racer on PS5 I found this really interesting but what makes me want to give you kudos the most is your stance on the never never. For young impressionable people watching, being an advocate for staying out of debt is a great message. 👌
I really liked that part too. People don't realize what a trap debt is. Go single monitor for a while if you still want the triple setup, save the money first, then invest on the additional monitors (or computer) sound advice and great example Dave.
I just thought, I’m on a super ultra wide and was thinking off adding a couple smaller ones for triples. But let’s say we find a way to alter the ultra wide to bend the sides to give the illusion of triples.
I used a 60hz 20inch screen at 900p for a very long time, and it didn't affect me at all, speed wise I was competing with top alien drivers without problems The most important thing IMO is to give yourself time to get used to the equipment and get the most out of it, upgrading very often is not ideal because you are constantly in the adaptation phase with the new equipment and usually it takes some time to get out of it. @@michaelmeier9085
Hi Dave, Thanks for this short segment. It sort of put my ADHD/anxiety brain at ease. In whatever I do I'm constantly battling with myself with the question of "is what I have enough?" I just started racing on a PC platform, having made the jump from console and I was worried that being on a single monitor might be limiting my experience and that I needed to somehow find more money to upgrade yet again. I'm gonna take your advice and enjoy the drive with what I have. Cheers, mate!
I got the same problem. A year ago i thought, that t300 rs and a laptop is enough. Then i bought moza r9 and srp, then a rig trophy , then new PC, then vr and 34 curved and now i’m looking for two 34 for making a triple with 34”s. I”m worried what would be next
I would never give out my VR. I got a 49” ultra wide as desktop monitor but even that wont cut it. 3090rtx has ran everything for me past years really well. Hp reverb g2 is just amazing!
@@BigDuke6ixx Yeah, but it does take all sorts. There are thousands on feedback posts who mindlessly squeal "no VR, no game" at every opportunity. Personally, I left VR for a single, 27-inch IPS screen, and much prefer it - but, like I said, it takes all sorts.
Nothing wrong with single screen sim racing Dave. It's all I have used for the last 3 or so years. Yes it is a little more awkward when racing side by side going into a turn but you soon learn to leave enough space for the other car. I know how expensive it can be to upgrade a PC as I have just built a new one myself. It wasn't a small amount but if I had bought it pre built it would have cost a fortune for the spec I have. Keep up the great content. 👍
What I always enjoyed when I used a single 55” tv was the sense of scale you get from the interior of the vehicle. On smaller screen everything in the car feels smaller than it should, even if you have the correct FoV.
If you have the correct fov the size of things should be literally equal in a 55" and in a 17" monitors. What change is just how much "things" you can see, that's how fov setting works. If you see things smaller you are probably setting your camera to view more things and hence you are messing up your "correct" FoV.
@@LordAzuren You may be correct. I let iRacing calculate my FoV, but I tend to move the seat position in game so that I can see the gauges better. Things in-game feel small, but I am limited by the technology and my practical use of it. VR is what I aspire to use, but am hesitant.
@De-M-oN Has VR improved much since Rift CV1? I recently went thru the hassle of getting my old VR headset out and setting all up. Just to be less impressed than my ultrawide.
I used to have triples, took a break from sim racing and sold them. Getting back into it now I use a 42" LG C2. The large 4K OLED panel does look really nice! I'm not in a rush to go out and buy triples again but I plan to at some point.
I have raced on triples and single with tobii eye tracker for about 3 years. And I liked the triples but single is nice because it's alot easier to get in and out and outside of racing my quality of life is a lot better.
@MrWolff1994 the eye tracking part doesn't really work at all if it's on top of the monitor, and it loses tracking if it's on the bottom due to the wheel blocking it at times. But the head tracking is perfect if it's on top. You do need to download their beta software for it to work in a non-standard position.
@PIDOFREAK it's called Tobii Eye Tracker 5, and it's an eye and head tracker without the need to wear anything. It's around 230ish usd, so it's a lot more expensive. I brought it for star citizen but use it for sim racing, too.
Hi @DaveCamTY. I've done the same thing. Sold 3 monitors, and bough the LG super ultra-wide extra curved 1000R with HDR and never been happier. It's easier to setup, much better FPS, 144 hz consistent, and more importantly, I can now mount the single monitor DIRECTLY onto my motion rig drastically increasing immersion.
Yes! I just made this switch myself. But from triple 24s to a 43 inch TV. It's simplified everything! And since I have head tracking and use Racelab's radar, I still race just as well (or badly 😂😂). And 4k visuals with all that vertical fov is immersive in a different way to triples. Some day, I'd like a beast PC and triple 32s or larger, but for now, I'm very happy.
Yep, me too. Had triples for many years, then got one 50 inch OLED and never looked back. I use Trackir and it just works. No issues with cars next to me, I just look over.
I've never pulled the trigger on triples, been racing a single monitor for years and years, maybe for me the next step is VR but for now, it's 3440x1440 with Tobii eye tracker. Works great for both racing and flying.
I appreciate the honesty! I am building my rig as we speak and I also decided to go single screen although a buddy of mine and the person who got me into Sim racing has triples. The single just seems more practical and better suits my needs.
Once I started racing on a 21:9 ultra wide, I never went back. I think is the perfect combination. One screen (easy to stream/share screen and to setup with all sim racing titles) and is wider than 16:9 for added context on the side. I know have a 34" UWQHD and planning to upgrade to a 45 OLED ultra wide soon
I use a 43in UW on a pivot mount as that's what I have for work, and like you said it doesn't make sense to spend loads on a second set of screens that I (sadly) only use a few times a week. There's always add-on button boxes and things like racelabs overlays if anyone struggles with awareness on singles, so I fully agree - VR and triples are nice, but by no means a requirement for good racing. Great vid.
I have no interest in triples but i do have 3 moniwanted 49" main just above is 22" for all my tyre pressure gear engine damagae etc. 3 rd monitor to my right, show postion the racers and track map. Love it. Keep up great content.
in my eyes, someone is a sim racer if enjoys sim racing :) from my side I'm using 3x32" monitors (1440p), and actually, in many cases it helps me. I'm racing mostly ovals, and if I can see the smoke in the next corner early, I can be prepared. Hope you'll enjoy the time on the track with the new setup :)
Seriously, does the choice of equipment matter when you consistently deliver informative and visually coherent content? It doesn't matter in your case because you are a RUclipsr and a streamer, and the content structure is among the finest, if not the absolute best. It's effortlessly engaging and understandable, offering a delightful variety without going overboard. Moreover, your videos possess the essential elements to be truly entertaining. Whether it's the spontaneous bursts of comedy, the moments of drama, or the tension that captivates your audience, it's all executed with a refreshing sense of moderation and authenticity. Your work is commendable, and I encourage you to keep it up.
I race mainly the Nascar series. For pack racing a single monitor/tv is tough as you can spend almost an entire race in traffic. The peripherals for me are a must. Not saying you cant race on a single this is just my preference.
I did the same for years on a 42" tv but used head tracker. Basically had my head turned slightly to the left forever and it worked perfectly. Takes a bit of getting used to but honestly with how well it ran, I was happy. Triples are definitely better though Lol. I was about 4500IR for oval then 3800 road with singles. Just take it easy and things are fine.
I would use triples even if it gave me slower lap times. The feeling of the scene flying past your peripheral vision is everything. The rest of the advantages are just nice to have.
Perfect video. I’m also using a single 43 inch Asus monitor that I bought for my PS5. I’ll switch to triple screens when I have more room. I plan on setting up TrackIR for some more immersion.
I race on a few years old i7 with a 2080 on a single 4k 55" Oled TV and LOVE IT! Best racing experience I've ever had and if I ever manage to upgrade my PC I will be hard pressed to give up my main big screen, I may just end up having to get a couple more 55" inch tvs and beg the wife for the rest of the room! :)
Thanks for throwing that out there. As a beginner with triples as a future goal it would be really interesting if you were to try a curved widescreen setup 👍
Absolutely I drive on an old screen Samsung syncmaster 24,5 and I don’t care what other ppl say about it because I don’t have the space for more actually and don’t wanna buy a screen same size tripple prize! Love your content keep it up Cheers
For me, the real benefit of triples comes down to just a few things. First, I can see much further into corners. That includes seeing wrecks/pileups that are ahead of me, around corners. My rearview, and driver's side mirrors are visible in all cars. Lastly, the immersion is only bettered by VR. With that said, I'd be relatively satisfied on a single 27" 1080p 75hz. I'm running triple 32" 1440p 144hz for reference.
Hi Dave great content as always, I am just getting back into sim racing and I will be using one 40in tv at 1080p, Just enjoy it for what it is and have fun, If you crash or are taking out by accident don't get mad or stressed out remember its a sim no one got hurt or died 🤔
You are a true sim racer if you are out there researching what would be best for you. If you don’t care about experience then you really have no interest in sim racing.
Just started this hobby using my regular 27 inch 2K monitor with a G923 and upgraded to a CSL DD. Next up...ordered a 34 inch ultra wide 2k monitor. It will fit perfect on a stand right in front of my wheel stand. Triples is something I can only see myself doing if I like REALLY got deep into sim racing against other people. At the moment I am just enjoying trying out different cars and tracks with Assetto Corsa. And also looking forward to the next Forza Game.
You should try open track with neural tracker and a web cam works wonderful and you don't need to have something on your head! Almost no input lag and super cheap option for head tracking
sim racing is great because they want to replicate what a real car do ..... and we are getting closer to that feeling .... now going back to a single monitor means less ...on my opinion and i think what make simulations great is getting closer and closer and going back to a single monitor in my opinion is less i rotate my head all the time to look at the mirrows like i do on a real car .... but its all about what you personally want to achieve .... hope you the best and thank you for your honest videos...... (sorry english is my second lenguage )
Hey Dave, great video! I'm a content creator too, and I'm thinking about using a single screen setup. However, rather than immersion or traffic awareness, I find that a triple screen setup really helps me with overall spatial awareness on the track. I guess it's about how my brain works 🤷
I just got my proper screen for my also new rig, a Samsung Odyssey G6 32" @240 Mhz and couldn´t be much happier! As you stated, most of the time one Is eyes front, and I also have a older 9th gen i7 so kind of the same situation In that regard. Cheers and thanks for the upload 🏁
I'm fairly new to SIM racing and I'm running a single 27" curved 165hz monitor. I see all the fancy setups that look like a real car and wondered what kind of PC I would need for that and hearing what you need to upgrade from... I have a long way yet. I race mostly on PS5/Xbox but I do some on my PC like IRacing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
LG "C" model TVs are amazing as well! It's 4K, crazy good looking colors and high response times. BTW - when you said you cannot afford to upgrade, I thought you were going to say "I can't even afford a razor." :)
I have been sim racing on iracing for 10 years, I use a 40 inch monitor and have never used triple screen lol 😂 get in there Dave and I’m old like you !!! hehe haha 😜👍🇦🇺
For those doubting. I race with the super ultra wide 49" screen and that's awesome too. It gives you a bigger FOV than a single monitor, but without the hassle of a multi monitor setup. Samsung recently even released a 57" version. Bit higher, bit wider.
I guess that depends on the size of the standard single monitor. A 55" 16:9 display has roughly the same hFOV as a 49" 32:9 super ultrawide. Going that big though means you are looking at TVs rather than monitors so that can be a drawback sometimes in terms of performance/latency etc depending on your budget.
I went from triple screens to a single 55 inch 4k and I don't regret it at all. With Racelabs radar overlay I know exactly where the driver next to me is. Dunno if U use it Dave but I would say give it a try. Together with ur Crewchief you can't go wrong imo.
I‘ve started simracing like one and half years ago. Since this hobby is really expensive, i bought a PlaySeat rig and drove on my flatscreen TV on my PS5. It worked very good. Obviously you upgrade parts over time, but I haven’t yet switched to PC. Therefore I‘m still racing on a single screen and it’s perfectly fine. :) new PC is coming though, PlaySeat rig will move out and the Fanatec CSL pedals are also going to be selled. It’s all down to the money you can invest at a time. I think it’s been a smart decision Dave.
I use an ultrawide and head tracking (opentrack its free and open source) running on a 1070 and an i5-6600k. 50fps average on high settings with most games unless I decide to crank assetto up to 11 with mods... Not being able to afford the latest and greatest won't stop me from racing.
I have the exact same TV, the only downside with it is the response time, and that was the reason i went for a decent monitor with 1ms at 4k VRR, its a noticeable difference, even if it just racing game
Have to agree with you Dave, I had 3 27" 2k screens, and frame rates were low enough to change, video cards are so expensive a.t.m, I have still got triples, but went back to 1080p. bit of a sacrifice in quality, but much better fps. Love the channel
I've been running a single 42 inch 1080p LED TV for the better part of 9 years (Vizio bought in December 2014). Your message about the amount of time you are side by side spoke to me, sure, triples get the immersion, but at a major cost. The way my set up is, I could probably push triples at a lower graphic setting, but I'd probably cost me double the money to get the mount and 3 decent screens vs a single mount (or none) and a decent 42 or 55 inch 4k screen. The 55 might be "excessive" based on how close I have it though. lol.
I was in a position where I had a choice between mid level graphics with 1 screen, or budget graphics with 3 screens and have the extra FOV. That was my choice. Now I’ll upgrade the PC and graphics quality as I can. As always, to each their own. A person can be a serious sim racer if they use a gamepad if they race the right way and can control the car so they don’t impact anyone else. Plenty of people out there racing with DD’s on mummy and daddies coin have punted me with my g920 keeping it under control. Got my boy over from West Oz for a week, been building up to it for months since the ashes. Hoping to get back on the sim soon - I’ve missed having the time to watch as much. Cheers Dave and fam.
I have been racing on a single 34" curved monitor with an adjustable monitor mount for the past 1.5yrs due to space limitations. Have no issues with that cause I still have an amazing time racing!!
No room for tripples. Using a single superwide curved qd oled and recently added track ir. The latter required training to get used to but once you get it it becomes natural to look into the side mirrors. Positive side effect for me with trackIR is a more active seating posture. The ability to move forward a little and looking up down allows to see more of the track in blind corners. Looking forward to the incoming ultra super wides qd oleds.
Hope you see this... I always wanted head tracking and had no idea it was a thing until your comment... Does it really track your head position like when you lean to the front or side? Does it really give an illusion like your monitor is a window into the virtual world?
@@outlander234 Yes it tracks to the front, back, sides, up and down and left and right. It's not so much an illusion to a virtual word but as I see it it's more of a camera controller that shifts the view on your monitor and allows you to see beyond the the edges of a fixed monitor view.
For those of us on single screens, I wish we had the option for virtual side mirrors that go on either side of the normal virtual mirror. Feels like it would help balance out things between those that have triples and those of us that do not.
I do prefer single screen mainly because not only computer performace but also no need. I prefer just one monitor and find it better and less distracting.
Hi Dave, I like your approach. There's a whole host of factors that contribute to screen (heck, entire rig) configuration and it's always a good thing to be able to not spend more money but get an improvement on some aspect of the experience. Regarding the amount of time racing side by side being less than you think - in a road race I'd estimate 1 lap in 20 I'll be alongside someone, so 5% of the time. But if you haven't yet, try dirt oval racing. Side by side racing for 80+% of the race, it's amazing
The absolute best time I had was on Geoof Crammond GP1, on a tiny CRT monitor and a keyboard. Being competitive, getting in the zone, and having fun the main thing. Not maxing out the credit card.
I just went from a 1440p 32 to 3 1080p27's based on your prior video im very very happy. I went 1080p as it was similar pixel density to the 32 1440 and i only have a rx6750 rocks Iracing at very high settings with 100fps range. Drops to 70/80 when on the grid with a bunch if cars but thats still great fps.
Hi Dave, thank you for your videos, your enthusiasm and your passion. Regarding whether or not to use a single screen, I understand your opinion, but I don't completely agree. You can afford to go back to a simple screen because you're driving a GT. Door knocks or possible side impacts most of the time cause little damage and do not prevent you from finishing your race. In open wheel, it's not the same story. No spotter can replace the fact of being able to visually monitor the distance from the car next to you and which will have a better chance of sending you into the barrier than a GT. You can also afford to go back to a simple screen because you are a pilot with great experience. How many novice drivers, with only one screen and NO spotter, can get damaged and not finish their races because they have no side view? In short, in open wheel, whatever your level, you are almost obliged to have a triple screen or a wide screen. If you are a GT driver with good experience, you can actually go back to a single screen. Best wishes.
Dedicated single screen (cinema curved monitor) with Track IR here...modest computer, Modest Fanatec Wheel and clubsport pedals. It's all fine with 32 gigs Ram, ssds and an i5! Track IR, VR or Tobii removes the need for extra monitors and all that space. The fastest guys I race with are still on single monitor Thrustmaster gear..at a certain threshold (lower spec than you think)...it's not the kit...it's the driver.
I went from triple 32'' inches to one single gigante and awesome 4k 65 inches 120hz Quantum led panel. Do i regret? Not a single moment. Ive never had such Clarity, sense of scale before. Everything is easy to setup... I still use VR now and the when i want extra immersion or Just chill...but Man... One single good screen is for me the Sweet spot.
I have recently purchased a 57" Samsung. Was on sale for £1750. Mind blown!! I had been playing on ROG 32" curved 1440p. The immersion is another level! I have a 4090 so can only get 120hz on the G9... I have locked ACC at 120fps, all Ultra settings at 8k. I get the 120fps and my GPU is only at 50% load. On 16:9 every corner was a blind corner... at 32:9, I am taking in the scenery whilst racing about. Also the window view is great for sideways action in EA WRC. I have never tried Triple Screen Setup or VR... But anyway you can extend your screen for SimRacing, I would 100% recommend it!
I’ve never used triples but I’ve been using TrackIR for years and to me it’s the best solution. Although in my opinion you do need at least a 32” screen as anything smaller your line of sight wanders past the edge of the screen when moving your head.
Holy crap Dave ! I feel like I haven't seen you in years . Why aren't you in my newsfeed anymore , at all ? Anyway , good to see you & thanks for the great content ! 🤘🏼🏁
I did the same few months ago. I bought a 55 C1 LG and I never go back! Now i finally have 1:1 ratio, much more fun. But people can do whatever they want, I really dont give a flying F 😄😄😄
I play on a projector 110 inches in 3d, I wish more sim racers could see it , most gamer/simmers have never seen stereo 3d on a monitor/tv/projector , its really impressive to look at
I am racing single screen since i started simracing... there is software helping you where another car is like crewchief or the radar from racelab or the combo of both. The only downside i noticed is especially on "curved straights" like Road Atlanta or Road America... it is hard to estimate where you are if you are forced to drive in the middle of the track, but i got used to it, just having a little buit more work so search for reference points.
My 2 cents; super ultra wide 49” at 2k seems to be a happy medium for me between single and triples. Edit: plus PC versions of Forza and other arcade style software run at 32x9 but not on triples.
"You're not a true [blank] unless you're [blank]." Whenever you hear that put on your critical thinking cap. Someone's got a bridge they want to sell you. Or they're trying to sell it to themselves.
I am currently debating this myself as the cost of triple 4k OLED monitors (and the bugs I'm facing of it) and the fact that 99% of other games can't do proper ultrawide or triple setups so ONE great screen is amazing.
I'm in a similar boat. I either upgrade vr to quest 3 and then need at the very least an upgraded motherboard and CPU, or I get an ultra wide 34inch and maybe an eye tracker such as the Tobi. And do nothing with my pc. Would be nice to see the wheel, and have a clean image on an immersive screen.
Dave, something I've always wanted to try with sim racing is using a single big TV but setting a custom 21:9 resolution on the PC so effectively you get a big ultrawide, albeit with black bars top and bottom but I don't think that would matter. Surely that would give the best of both worlds, IE: a massive screen but also the ultrawide field of view (which is awesome for racing as you'll already know). Performance wise it'll be no worse than driving the 4k TV, not sure exactly how it works with a custom resolution so the GPU might be rendering the black bars top and bottom but even so, it's still no worse than driving the 4k TV. Maybe give that a go while you have a single big TV setup on the rig. I think you'd have to set the custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panel to 3840x1600.
new to simracing and absolutely love your videos, im runing on a LG c1 oled 65¨and i dont think im switching anytime soon not even for VR, im using my university pc (10 year old.. with 750ti.. yeah 750 xD) cant imagine how itll feel when new pc finally arrives, i watch f1 in that screen and the quality is amazing, guess ill take the 4070ti for the next years
Using a 48” LG OLED here. I love it. I just don’t have the room for triples. I’m on a 10850k and 3080. Next year I will build a 14700k rig, I have all the parts except the motherboard right now. What video card though, who knows. I will stay with a single monitor though.
I personally have single screen but with track ir witch stills allows to look on the side aswell as inside the corners. I’m still quite a rookie but I find it much suffisent for now. Imo triple is just if you wish to have a full immersion with a complete cockpit setup, but it doesn’t seem to be necessary to have fun and be efficient on the track
I have VR and a 58 inch 21:9 display (old philips cinema tv) and I prefer the screen over the VR as well... VR is great and fantastic, but for comfort the display still beats the VR Headset (Oculus Rift CV1) and the immersion can be almost as perfect, when you get the feeling to "dive" into your tv. It can look like 3d even though it is just a 2d-display and i can really get the impression of the car around me... it is the same with motorcycling sims... the best is Isle of Man... what a blast.
I play iRacing on my 50inch TV and my FoV does not capture the corner exits where I usually focus when driving in real-life. It's especially problematic when learning tracks I've not raced on before. :( Anybody has the same problem?
I have been racing on a 55" LG Oled for years, from Gran Turismo Sport on PS4 to ACC on PC. I recently bought a Quest 3, and I have to admit, the immersion is amazing. I have to admit that I have to lower my expectations graphically since my hardware has not followed the upgrade. But I don't think I could go back to a single screen after getting the taste of it. All this to say, anyone can be a real sim racer, unfortunately people don't all have the same budgets, and can't all have top of the line equipment. Having fun is the goal!!
Everyone has an opinion and i understand what you are saying costwise and 1 screen will do the trick but for me i will never go back to 1 screen, i got triple 32" curved and that gives me such an realism...i would lower some settings instead of going back to 1 screen....i will miss alot what goes around me....not only with road races but even more with oval racing. Happy for you Dave that you can adjust!
I am new to simracing and waiting for new Vr headsets to come out and use for simracing, till then i put my Playseat Challenge with my Fanatec CSL DD right up against my 65“ LG OLED. The biggest upside is that those can do 4K120 with G-Sync and very low latency, perfect for my use case. I only lack the ability to easily look left and right but the rest is really good
Thanks for making a video clarifying the reasons for your decision Dave! I understand you were running triple 1440p. Do you think triple 1080p monitors would solve your pc issues?
This is where i am with an RTX3070ti and Ryzen 7. I'm got most gfx settings at full and generally well over 100fps. I've only got 3x24in which just can't give you sense of sitting in an actual motor, so thinking of upgrading to 1080p 32in - I'm half blind anyway, so figured extra resolution would be wasted on me! Feels like having higher refresh rate monitors is about the only future proofing i need at this stage, but open to views.
Triple 1080p 27" is the sweet spot for me in terms of performance and immersion. The car feels about the right scale but I think the disadvantage is the road looks a bit smaller than real life. Bigger screens solve the road problem but cause the car to look over sized.
Ya from what I’ve heard if you want good immersion 27s are good but 32s are better. I was running a single 1080p 27 before switching to a 1440p 35 ultra wide. Honestly I didn’t really notice the difference in resolution unless paying close attention to specifically that. Once up and racing I didn’t think about it. Refresh rate was more noticeable, went from 60hz to 100hz and that made a difference. Seems like 1440p especially when multiplied across 3 monitors just isn’t worth the hit to performance. I’d rather have lower resolution and higher graphics settings.
Just to be clear regarding FPS. My FPS is fine for the majority of a race but at the start with all the cars visible it drops. I could lower the graphics settings and get a consistent 165fps, but as I mentioned in the video that's not my priority right now 😁
with a full grid it's sometimes barely manageable even for a 4090...
@@tamaslichtenberger8529hahaha I laugh in my 3070 lol. Yeah go crank every setting under the sun to ultra (which most of them you can't even see their effect or the difference between high and ultra) and then come nag in here lol
@SimRacer666which cpu you use then ?
@@simulationstimulation961indeed like AF and sharders High vs ultra don’t see difference ? Or is there any ?
Guys it's poor optimization of iracing. I've analyzed my 4090 utilization while running 2x4K, and it doesn't get above 30 percent, even when there are frame drops. The game is optimized very poorly.
As a single screen racer on PS5 I found this really interesting but what makes me want to give you kudos the most is your stance on the never never. For young impressionable people watching, being an advocate for staying out of debt is a great message. 👌
I really liked that part too. People don't realize what a trap debt is. Go single monitor for a while if you still want the triple setup, save the money first, then invest on the additional monitors (or computer) sound advice and great example Dave.
at meta quest 2 costs $150ish
I swapped from triple screens to a single 34" ultrawide and I make sure it doesn't affect me by always being in the lead
The goat 😁
Never heard of this trick. But makes sense.
Simracing coaches hate this one trick...
😂😂😂
I just thought, I’m on a super ultra wide and was thinking off adding a couple smaller ones for triples. But let’s say we find a way to alter the ultra wide to bend the sides to give the illusion of triples.
Top marks for transparency Dave. I use a single 24” monitor and it’s fine. Cars to the side? That’s what Crew Chief (or the stock spotter) is for.

You cant look very far
I used a 60hz 20inch screen at 900p for a very long time, and it didn't affect me at all, speed wise I was competing with top alien drivers without problems
The most important thing IMO is to give yourself time to get used to the equipment and get the most out of it, upgrading very often is not ideal because you are constantly in the adaptation phase with the new equipment and usually it takes some time to get out of it. @@michaelmeier9085
I’ve been on a 27 inch for most of my simracing time. No problem at all.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for this short segment.
@@GameDogzTV bass shakers 😁👍
@@sonyx5332 nów i did upgrade to rtx 4080 super, triple curved 32” samsung g5, and now I’m looking for a new rig
This is exactly how I feel
I would never give out my VR. I got a 49” ultra wide as desktop monitor but even that wont cut it. 3090rtx has ran everything for me past years really well. Hp reverb g2 is just amazing!
I'd have given up PC gaming 10 years ago if it wasn't for VR.
55" 4K close to your wheelbase for proper fov is the best. Its like the proper size windshield.
I Cut a Ball (toy for dogs) In Half and placed it under my cheap brake pedal and that has greatly improved my consistency 🤪
I like the cocoon feeling of the triple screen. I raced for years on single and didn't care, honestly the pedals and wheelbase are way more important.
Monitors are gay.
👍
What are your specs?
What I always enjoyed when I used a single 55” tv was the sense of scale you get from the interior of the vehicle. On smaller screen everything in the car feels smaller than it should, even if you have the correct FoV.
It will be much much much better in VR
@@advanceddarkness3 dramatically improved actually. Your headset is ancient tech.
How is eye tracker on single? I have a 34" curved, and am looking at eye tracking to enhance my experience
@@ubermocwhat does it do exactly and what do i need to enable it?
@PIDOFREAK it's called Tobii Eye Tracker 5, and it's an eye and head tracker without the need to wear anything. It's around 230ish usd, so it's a lot more expensive. I brought it for star citizen but use it for sim racing, too.
I haven't tried triples yet, but I do love my 42" OLED ~30" from the screen! Still tons of immersion and a cleaner look and feel to the room.
A wonderful example of adapting to new priorities and efficiency. Also, don't try to keep up with the Joneses, they're broke, too!!!
İ play with g29 wheel, tlcm pedal, 15.6 inc laptop monitor on table. İ am so happy. So funy races.
Go For the 34" alienware (aw3423dwf) the qd-oled Panels are much better, hdr1000 Mode and windows 11 Auto hdr
Hey Dave, single monitor tip : add a head tracking peripheral to the single monitor setup. It's a banger immersion for this kind of setup.
Do you have one to recommend? Interested in this option, also does it work on iRacing
Love it. Keep up great content.
in my eyes, someone is a sim racer if enjoys sim racing :)
from my side I'm using 3x32" monitors (1440p), and actually, in many cases it helps me. I'm racing mostly ovals, and if I can see the smoke in the next corner early, I can be prepared.
Hope you'll enjoy the time on the track with the new setup :)
Which monitors are you using? Got a recommendation? I‘ll upgrade to 3 32“ monitors as well, looking for options…
I agree 100%
Thank you. I appreciate that more than you realise 🙏
I've been eagerly anticipating this explanation for a while. It's crystal clear now. Thank you, Dave
What does your fps look like?
@@spawnandbatman6975 since this I've upgraded to a triple screen setup and upgraded my pc. I do prefer the triples to be honest,
Thanks for throwing that out there.
Love your content keep it up
Cheers
Thanks for the video Dave! Would you mind to share what you think about using the 43" 16:9 vs the 49" 32:9 you had before?
Thanks and take care :)
You're not a true sim racer if you get caught up in what other people are enjoying using.
okay….
This guy is out here keepin da gate on lock
Save some pussy for the rest of us
You are a true sim racer if you are out there researching what would be best for you. If you don’t care about experience then you really have no interest in sim racing.
Awesome comment!! Agreed.
I upgraded from my three monitors to a 49" Odyssey OLED G9. It was the best decision for me. I love this monitor for racing and other games.
That's what i will go with now on my upcoming iracing comeback :D 1 49"
I guess that depends on the size of the standard single monitor. A 55" 16:9 display has roughly the same hFOV as a 49" 32:9 super ultrawide.
Going that big though means you are looking at TVs rather than monitors so that can be a drawback sometimes in terms of performance/latency etc depending on your budget.
You forgot to say bit pricier too.
new PC is coming though, PlaySeat rig will move out and the Fanatec CSL pedals are also going to be selled. It’s all down to the money you can invest at a time. I think it’s been a smart decision Dave.
I appreciate the openness and honesty.
Do you think with a RTX 3060 Will move 1080 3 monitor a least 60hz in rfactor 2 and ACC?
Good points Dave. I race on a single screen. A 49inch ultrawide 😂 it's still a single screen is what i tell my missus 🤷🏻♂️😂
Rfactor had that. Sure there is no plugin for other sims?
Finally an explanation i was waiting for, cant wait to watch it after work
The absolute best time I had was on Geoof Crammond GP1, on a tiny CRT monitor and a keyboard.
Do you think with a RTX 3060 and Ryzen 5600 could achieve min 60hz with triple monitor 1080 in rfactor 2 and ACC? Cheers
Hi Dave,
thank you for your videos, your enthusiasm and your passion.
Doesn’t feel the dashboard way to large when racing with a 65” TV? I tried a 43” 4K tv and it is big, or Huge.😮
@@bullshark1152 its a FOV issue. I now use 3 55 inches 4k tvs. If set correct..immersion is awesome.
I play on a projector 110 inches in 3d, I wish more sim racers could see it , most gamer/simmers have never seen stereo 3d on a monitor/tv/projector , its really impressive to look at
You are 100% right dave a single screen is also good as long you having fun that is the most important thing in sim racing
👍
Dave you so right. As someone who has been exclusively racing in VR, my eyes are always forward and it’s only 5-10% of the time I look right or left.
And still you can see who is next to you. Still you can look forward when you drift in rally instead of looking on the wall etc
Played on a single 55" for years, I'm now on the VR tip but a single screen is more than fine to be a good sim racer.
My 2 cents; super ultra wide 49” at 2k seems to be a happy medium for me between single and triples.
Edit: plus PC versions of Forza and other arcade style software run at 32x9 but not on triples.
Just got a Simfab Single Monitor stand to use along with my Fanatec wheel. Can't wait.
Your gear doesn’t define you, your passion does. As long as you enjoy it, you are a sim racer.
Noob talking, but wouldn’t you just be losing content in the black bars, not gaining content on the sides?
Using a 42" single screen myself, though its more for the sake of convenience - it doubles up as the main TV in the house!
i love the big single screen setup, i always use it. it would not cross my mind to go triple screens tbh.
new to simracing and absolutely love your videos, im runing on a LG c1 oled 65¨and i dont think im switching anytime soon not even for VR, im using my university pc (10 year old.. with 750ti.. yeah 750 xD) cant imagine how itll feel when new pc finally arrives, i watch f1 in that screen and the quality is amazing, guess ill take the 4070ti for the next years
Using a 48” LG OLED here.
Been racing on a 491/2 inch curved monitor since I started 3 yrs ago and I love it
If life gives you lemon - make lemonade 😃👍👍. Thank you so much for these words 🙏
Because it's better (for me) I use a single 55' sometimes with track IR. And with all the overlays and radars we have, it's no problem.
I bought a 48" LG C2 Oled and I love it.
Good point, Dave@@dave81983
Ya from what I’ve heard if you want good immersion 27s are good but 32s are better. I was running a single 1080p 27 before switching to a 1440p 35 ultra wide. Honestly I didn’t really notice the difference in resolution unless paying close attention to specifically that. Once up and racing I didn’t think about it. Refresh rate was more noticeable, went from 60hz to 100hz and that made a difference. Seems like 1440p especially when multiplied across 3 monitors just isn’t worth the hit to performance. I’d rather have lower resolution and higher graphics settings.
@@dave81983 don’t forget display size doesn’t effect pc performance, only resolution and refresh rate do.
