Today we are working on an abandoned 1967 GMC C20 that's been sitting on a farm for YEARS forgotten. It has a big block Chevy 305 V6 in it which is a bit of an oddball motor. It's stuck of course because why not. Follow along and see if we can get this poor old girl to run again!

This engine needs some love, it wants to run.
It really does wanna live. That starters a champ too. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage No problem man! I really expected the starter to let out the factory installed smoke! haha
I just got a pretty rough 1961, has the 305. I'm pretty stoked. Missing hood and doors but all in all, it's a pretty damn good truck, just need a little love.
Good luck with yours.
Even after you are done with it you'll find you still wanna tweak things. They're never really done. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Yes , fix it up ! 👍 Not many GMC V6'skeft.b
She went to New York for a full restoration. Haven't gotten any updates though. Thanks for watching!
Tune it up and it will run fine. Tough engines!
Might give a carb a try and see how well it will really run. Shocked it didn't smoke!
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Thanks for watching! As always we appreciate the support!
Rather than buying a new carb soak the one you have in diesel. Throw it in a bucket for a week and then tear into it. It's an interesting engine, but with those plugs the way they are going a lot further with it is going to take exponentially more work.
I was thinking about snatching one off another truck in the yard. There's benefits to your own private junk yard. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
BTW glad to see you working on rigs!
I get after them when I get time, it's just rare these days. Need to get a clutch in the yellow truck. In the meantime I just keep buying more crap. 🙄 I have a problem. 🤣
I like how you didn't give up on it Good job 👍
Be a shame to give up on a motor that wants to run so bad. I'm shocked it didn't smoke like hell. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage Yeah no smoke at all was there,You beat me,I thought nope shes not gonna go it was locked up
Excellent video Chris :) yes I think give love that 305 V6 (Hercules) that GM called them and get up running to for sure! Also thump from carb tell you it go plan to get started soon and engine belt think that one from 1978 to early 1990's back then remember it my late dad had one for 1978 GMC 25 truck on his 350 V8 motor too! Also remember 305 V6 motor shocking it a 4.7 litre also Spark plugs are in set up crazy for sure 👍 also 305 V6 motor shocking were in 1960 to 1968 in 1/2 , Heavy Duty 1/2 (5/8 ton ) , 3/4 , 1 ton trucks of Chevrolet or GMC pick up with Manual transmission Coulmn Shifter also Turbo 350 and 400 3 speed Automatic transmission Coulmn Shifter not sure if use Overdrive Transmission at but use 303 to 418 rear end gears to ! But first heard about 305 V6 thought 🤔 mistaken for 305 V8 too till saw one it was Orange motor color also V6 head covers said Hercules! They were strong motor with lots torque and low hp also use Carter Carb 560 to 650 with hand choke cable knob in dash! Also 305 V6 motor were experimental motor that what gave GM build V6 motor of 252 to 262 plus in line 292 to build in production line! Fix up Chris and amazing motor too ! Hope have excellent Father's Day weekend on Sunday too and enjoy!
Thanks for watching as always. Loyal viewer for sure! Might try and save the drive line. The body is toast and no title though. Perhaps putting a carb on it and seeing how well it'll run is in the cards?
@@MyLegacyGarage yes thank you for helping you out Chris and hopefully get newer shape Carter or something fit 305 V6 also!
Great job.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support!
You should pull the rocker covers off and checked the the push rods are bent.
I'm sure some of the valves were sticky but it did eventually smooth out. Likely there were some issues with lifters pumping up. Thanks for watching!
These V6 engines are cool
They really are pretty neat!
I love your vid’s man keep up the good work
Appreciate the support! Glad ya like them and well so our best to get new stuff out in a reasonable time. Thanks for watching!
Those gmcs 305 had some neat plad rocker covers but I have only seen them in bigger trucks not in c 10 20 30
I had never actually owned one before but had seen them in all sorts of stuff even busses. Never a C10 though. Thanks for watching!
Plaids came in 63 only on some trucks, and in 1/2 tons
Make it a shop truck it looks solid put it back together
For sure not solid. Rotted out pretty bad. Plus no title. Might try to save the drive line for something else someday. Thanks for watching!
V6 good engine. Used in a million school bus chasis.
I've never fooled with one but it's pretty neat. Wonder what it'd sound like without exhaust? 🤔 Thanks for watching!
It will run
I had my doubts on this one for sure, especially after seeing the spark plug debacle. 🙄
It going to run
Sure will!
Could be fun to put a carburetor on it.
I thought so too but I sold it instead. Figured it was time to thin out the herd a bit. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
It runs… those old GMC V6 engines were pretty indestructible. It’s claimed they discontinued them due to dealers not making any money off them in the shop. Parts are a bitch, but they are torque monsters.
I say make it properly run.
I suppose I could rustle up a carb anyways and see if we can get it to run well enough to move the truck maybe? Never filled with one of those engines. Pretty interesting history there. Thanks for watching!
been watching u since ur 1st video now your name mr quick My Legacy Garage
Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support!
Of course it'll run, it's a Chevy. Is it worth the effort? No idea. Small blocks seem to be the go to. Is it worth a borrowed carb? Definitely. 👍
Yeah SBC is like the standard. Still though, apparently these little motors are pretty reliable. Somebody might want one for a restoration? Either way think I'll try and get a carb for it. Thanks for watching!
Billdyke...HOW DARE YOU CALL IT A CHEVY!!!
Toss another Stromberg WW or one of the small Rochester 2GCs either the proper bolt pattern on it and listen to 'er sing!
@@jeffgadget5350I do beg your pardon. It's not a Chevy, it's a pile of shit. Consider my apology both abject and sincere...
Find a carb or rebuilt that one I'd fix it up
I dunno that there's any hope at all for that thing. That carbs been sitting out in the weather for who know how long. The real issue is the screw heads are rusted off which makes disassembly rather difficult. Either way I'll sort something out and see what we can do. Thanks for watching!
Maybe timing chain
I think the timing is good. Definitely had some sticky valves though. Thanks for watching!
it roars to life. my final answer
Chugs slowly to a very basic definition of "runs" is more on point. 🤣
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad ya liked it! Thanks for watching!
Hey! Where did you go? No you tube videos in a while, Hope your ok!
All is well. Just too busy to post currently. There'll be a new video within a month or so. Thanks for checking in!
Put it back together and get it on power tour.
I would definitely put that effort into the '55 if I was gonna hit power tour. This one's a bit too far gone I'm afraid. Might see about getting a carb on it and play around a bit. Thanks for watching!
@@MyLegacyGarage Somehow, some way I'm doing Powe Tour next year even if I have to use my Ford Focus. Not a classic yet.
@@danielventura8073 where there's a will there's a way! Big financial commitment as well. My biggest issue is the time to do it. Maybe someday!
@@MyLegacyGarage I watched the videos from Vice Grip Garage. Derek and family are on the road. Looks like a great trip.
Because the back firing the valves could be stuck
Sometimes it takes a while to work out all the junk and get going right. It worked out in the end. Thanks for watching!
How is that cab?
Bad. Not as bad as the bed, but bad. 🤣 Rotten floors, rockers and corners like normal. Also rear window frame and above the windshield are toast. Might try to save the drive line though. Thanks for watching appreciate the support as always!
She'll run. @11:17
Indeed she did! Pretty well and without smoke to boot. Thanks for watching!
Whats a big block v6 im confused?
GM made big block V6's in several sizes back in the day. They were torque monsters and used in heavier trucks, school buses and such. Very interesting motors.
Oil, Chinese carb, wp and rad optional 😂. Runs like new. Go anywhere.
I'd settle for it making it to the backyard. Of course it doesn't even have a steering wheel so there's that... 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Are parts for sale off engine?
Sold it like a year ago to a guy in New York. Not sure what became of it.
🙂👍1967
Year one for these awesome trucks!
Fixed it up make a hot rod truck out of it
I sent it on to a better home. Too many projects around here. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Vinegar soak it
Naw just some WD 40 down it's throat and make it go. 😁
It will run those old v6's are diehards
Sure enough it went from stuck to running. Thanks for watching!
Alright it's been a month
Right! 🤣 I do it when I can. 🤣🤣
No new videos?
Sorry man been super busy. My day job is trying to kill me. There's one almost done that will be up in a week or so. Thanks for checking in!
New vids?
@@jamesthev5607 work strikes again. Short people like the rest of the world and doing 3 jobs. I did finish shooting the yellow truck clutch replacement this past weekend so in a week or two it should be edited and up. Thanks for the support!
Warning: extremely flammable.
No kidding Sherlock, that's why I bought it.
😂😂😂😂😂
And it's cheaper than gas.
Right! 🤣 I guess technically it's not considered fuel? I really should buy it by the case. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Yeah no kidding! 🤣
