    I really enjoy this. Everyone can interpret abstracts differently and that's what's amazing about them and I think they feel a bit more freeing. Hope that makes sense but that's just my thoughts. Have a great day

    Very nice! Looks like a misty morning over a lake. In my mind’s eye, it’s fall-first freeze is near. I’m looking at the scene from my mountain cabin, sipping hot coffee with a fire crackling in the stone fireplace behind me.
    Bravo.

    Your abstract painting is great, don't worry because you didn't give specific instructions. But when I look at the way you draw, I see that everything is very simple, and beginners like me can do it too. Abstract paintings always bring an interest and curiosity to me. Thank you very much.

    Jay, that was brilliant. 'Make a mess with me' should be a regular feature. Always good to do something out of our comfort zone and you certainly did that. I loved watching the process. At one stage it looked a bit Turner ish. That soon passed though when you blobbed on more paint lol. That paper was the equivalent of a Hobnob. Took a good soaking. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Jay.

    I think you did a great job and you handled the first run so well I’ve done this many times and I always go darker rather than later at first because I know when I add water it’s going to wash away anyways, so I let it get really messy give that a try. It’s kind of fun.

    Have you tried warming your tape with a hair dryer before peeling it off... It helps loosen the adhesive and not tear when removing it...

    An excellent job delving into uncharted waters! I like the more ethereal feel to abstract art - especially where it still manages to represent some recognisable shapes. Scott Swinson is my favourite artist for this kind of technique with the spray bottle and moving all the paint around.
    The masking tape damage can be avoided by using heat-gun, aiming it under the tape as you pull it up and away slowly from the paper. You just have to be a bit careful not to burn your fingers!

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 года назад +2

      I actually found Scott Swinson's channel again, after painting this, when I started looking on RUclips for abstract watercolor painters. I'm sure I'd seen his channel before but never paid much attention as abstract really isn't my thing.
      I think his bottle is more directional where as mine is a mist. Maybe I need to invest in a new bottle?
      I'm going to watch more of his videos before I do another abstract. See if I can pick up some tips.

    I love how it came out! Didn't want to use your good paint, huh? I used some Cotmans last month (was working large) and discovered that their transparent colors are full of filler and very much not transparent! They used to be so much better in the old days. I find it's great to practice my splattering on scratch paper before I go for it on the main painting!

    • @JayNathanWatercolor
      @JayNathanWatercolor  2 года назад +1

      Thank you 🙏 I was pretty happy with it too. Yeah I decided to use the Cotman, rather than artist grade, as I had the tubes of the colors I wanted to use and wasn't worried about wasting paint.
      I don't know how Cotman paints used to be. I have heard that they used to use real cadmium and cobalt pigments in the past rather than the hues of today.

    oh thats beautiful!! i think it really benefits from being in that white frame so the colors look a bit more punchy 👌🏻 in general not something ive tried doing, but maybe i should! i always tend to get hung up on details super early and then either ruining the painting or taking hours upon hours to finish it 🤪
