- Hey guys, here is the history of the Nissan GTR. It is one of Japan's most iconic cars...also known as Godzilla. The GTR was originally a Skyline and eventually went onto it's own model. I know I've missed other variations of the GTR, but tried to squeeze as much information to as close to 10minutes as possible. Let me know what you think.

The first GTR I ever saw on the street was an R35. Clear, open road on the bridge in front of us, he wasn't getting away without a race. So, I raced the first skyline I saw with a beautiful view of the city skyline at the same time. It absolutely destroyed my car, but I got to hear and see it go... somewhere off into the future, never got to give the guy a thumbs up :D

Definitely! I have since engine swapped to a KLZE, but it would still hand me my *ss. I think it was a locally famous restauranteur, because I found what looked to be the same GTR behind a trendy new restaurant with a few locales around town. Not likely there was more than one in 2009 where I live.

Very informative video. I been waiting 8 years to buy my GTR. I had the money q get one 3 times but life gets in between and the money goes flying out the window. Last year was Hurricane Maria. Am 45 years old and am retiring within the next two years. 2019 will be year of my GTR. Keep up the good work Gary and see you on the next one. Saludos from Puerto Rico.

my fellow puertorican never give up on owning Godzilla, ill be joining the usaf in a couple of months im 21 and have dreamt of having one since i was much younger but I know someday we will have our own GTR never give up, i also had to sacrifice a lot after hurricane maria but i know things will get better keep on keeping on brother

Fantastic Video. Godzilla (R32) actually made it's Australian Touring Car Championship debut in 1990 and was driven by Jim Richards in the final few races to help him win the 1990 ATCC title that year. It also won the Bathurst 1000 title in 1991 and 1992. It's without doubt the greatest Touring Car of all time.
I like the r-32 the best because it's smaller lighter inline 6 manual car. May not be the fastest but I bet it's really fun to drive.
Yups. I believe most people whom have driven the R32, R33, R34 note that it's more raw.
John Connor r32 still is fastest if u modified.
It's weakness is front biased weight distribution, increasing strain on front tires to cause understeer.
@@yeongvinsheng7639 it's a simple weakness to solve , we played a bit with the alignement, changed tires, adjusted spring rates and ride heights, and that made it a whole new car...

By far, one of the most enjoyable videos from your channel. I read a lot about GTR and its heritage, but for some reason, i still managed to learn more about it from this short video of yours. Keep up the good work, Gary. I'm buying a second house the end of this year. The GTR is definitely on my list. Next year is the goal.

As Skyline fan favourite I would love to see one last inline 6 from Nissan.
A 4 litre straight 6 cylinder engine. The RB40DETT mid range engine.
I really like that you included all of the skyline models even the infinity ones, although you could have explained a bit on the name transfer to infinity and why the R35 didn't get the skyline name because it was owned by the infinity side of the company now.
To briefly explain. The GTR was moved to it's own model to represent Nissan's ultimate Supercar. It's design parameters would not be met by just "adding" to the Skyline model. The GTR is designed specifically for a purpose - Racing (I'd argue this) and would separate from the Skyline model which was more catered to the masses.

Could only touch these in video games in the 90s, in the U.S. pretty crazy when you would choose a Nissan over a Lamborghini back then.

4th generation and R32/33 are my personal favorites
72 skyline was called ' kenmerri' after the 'Ken & Mary' ad campaign.
New Nsx wasn't popular because it didn't go back to its roots...Gtr started good but adding more horsepower to a crappy program to the transmission didn't help...numbers stayed the same and car got sluggish...drive the first R35 and the last...you feel the difference

I'm sure you know as well, but there were too many variants. The R34 deserves it's own video just for that. lol
GT Content well that's true lol can't wait to see that video. I mean I have some knowledge of each variant but such as the N1 I don't understand. Also I was ready that the S-tune/R-tune were prototypes for the Z-tune.
Yups, don't forget about the M-Spec, M-Spec Nur, etc. It's just like they named it whatever to make it "sound" special. lol
I've got one planned for the R32 already since they can be purchased right now due to the 20 year rule. I'll try to include the R33 and the R34 for future videos.
GT Content awesome man thanks yea can't forget about those. Honestly they are all basically running the N1 block just I think the Nur is running the N1 turbos ? I can't remember if the m spec does too! But I mean if you can clarify all that in a video that be awesome

Maybe in Canada.
Each state has there own vehicle codes, so they may be more lax than others (Florida?). I think it also helps if you are in the military as I recall some soldiers were able to own them on base. Importing them in as a show car, kit car, etc. may also help people's goals of acquiring them. Canada's vehicle laws are also different and allow them to a certain extent I believe per Krayzie Buddha.
From what i understand Almost all of the R34 vehicles are illegal, there is only one very specific model that qualifies under show exemption. Florida is notorious for being easier and bending the rules, however just because a gray market vehicle has registration, insurance and a title does not make the car federally legal.
A handful of R34's were imported "legally" after a company went through the process of making a few imported cars pass US safety and emission regulations. They even performed a crash test on an R34 (the horror). However, the company got greedy and started importing other GT-R models without jumping through the same whoops because it was costly. The Feds raided the company and ended up shutting things down.
Those customers that had already received and payed for their cars under the assumption that they were legally obtained, got to keep their cars. That's why there are a few "legal" R34's here in the States.

The nür version is the one driven by God foot kozo hoshino in initial d 4th stage, in a monologue he mentioned that the r33 is the worst car he ever touched. He went through 4 gtrs, r32-r33-r32-r34

I like the iconic Skyline R-33 & 4 and GTR but for me I want a 2015 onwards Nismo 370z.
I’m surprised that the R33 didn’t receive a V-Spec 2 version much like the R32 and the later R34.

R33 GTR fans please stand up. The toughest GTR out of the whole lot. I dislike the R35 GTR as it looks hideous and takes the fun out of driving.

sorry my friend your Channel GT content and you wear gtr t-shirt and still you dont know that the R chassis stopped with GTR R34. i hope the next generation of the skyline the chassis call it RS stand for Race and sport such as GTR GTS. or keept going as next generation of R chassis and call it R35.

They were not used in the GTR trim.

Maybe in the future. It's just Nissan's luxury line found in the USA. Most people will not pay "luxury" prices for a Nissan, hence you see Infiniti (Same with Honda->Acura, Toyota->Lexus).
