My birth name is Robert Moore . Way back in 1967 when I was 12 my team (Swindon) played West Ham in the FA Cup . My Dad wrote to West Ham asking if I could meet my idol .
He didn`t really expect any reply so was really surprised when we got a letter from West Ham saying be at the main entrance at 2pm . In we went and Ron Greenwood met us and took us into the dressing room to meet the great man.
Bobby Moore couldn`t have been nicer to me and introduced me as Bobby Moore to the rest of the team ( including Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst) . I had my leg pulled when a couple of the players said " Blimey you`ve shrunk since the last game".
I asked Bobby for an autograph and he signed my book "from one Bobby Moore to another".
I must admit I was absolutely starstruck and could barely say anything but Bobby Moore was such a kind man and put me at ease as he introduced me to the other players. A day I have never forgotten.

Hello Sandra, The best bit about this is every single one is a unique story because it's a unique person. It makes it really enjoyable. But you're right. Tony Hancock what a scary place. I think it was more in my mind than in reality but it did feel spooky. You're a great inspiration with your comments. Thank you ever so much. I look forward to seeing you again. Regards, Alan

I’m no big footie fan, just every 4 years when England is in it, but I appreciate what ‘66 meant, and the team. Just want to win again so we don’t have to keep on about 1966! Knowing how important it was, you would think flowers would be in abundance. They think it’s all over!

My brother spent many years working at the COLC and was there for my estranged father's funeral. I couldn't make it due to being away on active service. Some time later I went to visit him on site and to view my dad's plaque. He showed me to the spot and after a while said 'Do you want to see something more interesting?" He led me through the memorial gardens to that small shrine draped in claret and blue ribbons. My god it was the last resting place of my and the nations greatest sporting hero.
'But I thought he was cremated at Putney' I said
'He was and he lived in Putney but this is his turf and his family had him brought home'.
The only time I saw any of my brothers cry was when the news of Bobby's death was announced. It doesn't matter if you are from London, Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke or Birmingham. Bobby although he was the ultimate Hammer he was an English legend. ⚒️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Most of my family are buried/ cremated there. Bobby Moore lived near us too! Beautiful cemetery and like being in a park in some areas. My mum and her siblings often go over there, with a picnic. They don’t see it as morbid. Mum says they’re just having a nice afternoon with their family 😊x

We asked the staff where they were & not only did they tell us they gave us a lift in their van to their graves & also showed us where Bobby was, at the timecwe didn't know he was there. They were so friendly & helpful. 🇬🇧
