I DJed at Layrry's club in Nuneaton (Graysons).. they were all a lovely bunch, very caring, always remember Tony Knight who ran the club.. wish I could go back to them days, life was so simple.
I was on Larrys Generation Game in 1979 with my late mum Maisie. We got to know Larry off screen when invited to a party in Wakefield at his friends house after his show at the Bradford Alhambra. I will never forget following his Rolls Royce in my late fathers ford cortina 😂 RIP Larry and Mum Maisie ♥ Nice nostalgic video thanks 😊
Living alone in London all those years ago and sometimes feeling lonely I would look forward to watching him on a Saturday night. It was like having a friend come into the room. You couldn't dislike him for a second. And over the years I have a feeling of affection for him even after all this time. To look at the grave and think of the personality of the man was sad to see really. For a child to be put into some one else's hands at the age of ten he must have wondered why he was unlovable. I felt proud to see him standing alongside his Rolls Royce and felt ' well done Larry. You did do well'
He was one of the funniest guys I ever saw, the Generation Game was brilliant with him as compare. He was Gay in a time when it could be disastrous to be so, especially in showbiz. He was a really kind generous soul. The world is a poorer place without him.
Thank you Alan for yet another great presentation and im sad still that Larry left us,wonderful gentleman very funny and his catchphrase Shut that door, and Seems like a nice boy,and What a gay day (think he said that?),will live on for years to come at least for us who remember him! And like you said his grave stone was very modest(considering the wealth he mustve accrued) more fans should visit his plot and lay new flowers.R.i.p Larry.
I just want to make a personal statement that 20 years ago I worked with another businessman who was very camp and in the closet, who eventually ended up hanging himself at the age of 42, so sad that even his mother did not totlay understand him. I can honestly say that I was his true friend and tried to help him. People like Larry make a difference by standing out and proving it's not wrong. He sent a big message and did a lot of good and spread happiness. I sent my love to both. Alan
I was lucky enough to have Christmas dinner with Larry and some friends in Birmingham 1993. He was charming, funny and very warm and gentle. He was assisting with a book about Dorothy Squires and was full of wry anecdotes. It was a pleasure I've never forgotten.
I do think Larry, John Inman, Frankie Howard and Kenneth Williams were such loved performers I think people began to be more accepting, just as later, people like Julian Clary and Boy George also had a great impact. Larry was a delight, such a sweet man.
I know a lot of gay guys think Grayson and other homosexuals in the 70 s played a very camp act which insulted them, but as a child of the era of Larry I know full well how much of a breakthrough his being openly gay was, like Mr.Slocombe (John Inman) in Are You Being Served, these characters made campiness, and 😮difference more acceptable. Had in not been for the AIDS outbreak and the cruelty that ensued, I think gay rights would have triumphed years earlier. Actually, of course, Grayson was asexual and wasn't practicing as a gay man. Loved him so much at the time!
Hello alan i have just watched your larry grayson video again my best friend of 54 years was just like larry he made me laugh there was never a dull morment with Roy unfortunately he died sudddnly last year i really miss him he played the piano and always played only love for me he said a friendship like ours only happens once in a lifetime he got on well with my husband too i will never forget my best friend and i am gratful that we had 54 years of friendship take care best wishes from sue and vic
So sad no flowers as he was a warm person that brought happiness to all..I worked as a security guard for LWT and I sadly missed him but my colleagues always mentioned he was the nicest person they ever met!
I have nice memories of watching The Generation Game as a child with my parents. Larry Grayson was a great host, a complete natural, you couldn't think of anything bad to say about him
He was a true entertainer, brought back memories of watching him on a Saturday night. My sister and I loved The Generation Game. God Bless Larry 😘 Such a humble grave too.
I sang many a time back in the day at his club in Nuneaton Graysons, it was frequented by a large community of gay people, had some great nights in there Larry was great 🎉
I'm name dropping again 😁 got to know Larry and Isla quite well, years ago my then boyfriend worked with them for a summer season and I got to go to many of their gigs; oh and Isla lives in the village next to mine; she's a beautiful soul x
What a beautiful tribute to a warm and funny man. I loved watching him as a child, the chemistry between him and Isla was so heartfelt. I loved the Generation Game, classic. They don’t make them like that now sadly 😇😍
Hi, Ganor you are so kind with the comment Yes, Isla was sweet wonder were she now. Larry wasn't an overnight success he been working hard for 30 years ti become an over nigh success :-) but when you watched him he had that loveliness that came out he never changed.
@@junelaw4162 Hello June, that's a really sweet thing for you to say. I just try to be natural and enjoy the subject of the video. Keep in touch. I'll watch out for you. Good night Alan
My parents were in the Entertainment Business - professional musician and professional singer, and my father spoke warmly and very highly of Larry Grayson. He told stories of the times he and my mother had met Mr. Grayson, and what a thoroughly lovely chap he was. This made a huge impression on me and from that time, I too loved Larry. I blinkin' adored him on The Generation Game, and no one could replace him. He truly was THE best. May he live on, entertaining those who, like him, have passed on, and may my father and mother both be included in the great audience in the sky. *Truly fabulous report* .... thank you for the share! ~ Cobs.
What a wonderful recollection for you to go back to your parents as for Larry his humor was cheeky but that just added to his sweetness. Lovely memories for you Cobs💘
Larry was such a lovely, fun gentleman, and I love watching The Generation Game with him as it was always guaranteed fun, from start to finish. RIP LARRY ''SEEMS LIKE A NICE BOY....SHUT THAT DOOR'
For a few years Larry had an apartment in Torquay overlooking the sea , Very exclusive the block was called " Kilmorie " . Just up the road from him was a house called " Coppertops " where Max Bygrave lived .
Larry did something for being camp which made it super nice because he was super nice. You can see that when you look at the documentaries. Just a nice person. Thank you for the comments love your input.
Allan, I really appreciate the last few minutes at the end of the last segment when you talk from the heart about the important things in life. After you had finished talking about Larry, I was going to press for your next ‘person’ but I waited, continued watching and your words really got to me. You’re quite right! We SHOULD try to get the most out of each day. Sounds so simple, but it’s often forgotten. Thankyou. xx
Hello Gillian, I never in real life say these kind of things very often, but I do believe them. I used to read loads of psychology in my 20s. It was my favourite subject so I just thought because some of the lives are a bit of a disaster. It's the right moment sometimes to bring this out and try and put things in perspective but I'm still not preaching. We all do as we wish. I just think it might help somebody somewhere. Thank you ever so much kind of you. Alan
Loved this video Alan. I really found it quite emotional and no wonder you get shivers when you look into people's lives and then look at their graves. Such a sad reality that life is a journey that does have an end. I also love you mindful comments 'squeeze as much as you can into your day' because we never really know what is around the corner. Thank you for your knowledgeable respectful videos.
Hello Louise, I really love looking into their lives in more detail than I knew before the video and it allows everybody to remember them and reminisce and even passed it on. So it's something I found much more enjoyable than every anticipated and started. Thank you for the great comment. Very kind of you. Alan
in the late 70,s early 80,s I worked for Radio Rentals in Nuneaton, my journey to work from Hinckley would take me down that road, i did see Larry walking his white poodle once or twice,i don't think we will see the likes of him again,RIP.

Hi Sas I'm glad you you remembered Larry. And thank you for the positive comment. That's really nice of you. I'll watch out for your unusual name. All the best, Alan
I loved Larry grayson, i was worried when he took over the generation game but he was a brilliant host and very funny... Look at the muck in here 😂.Larry also appeared in CROSSROADS driving meg's wedding car.
His house never used to look like that. It was white and had a flag pole in the front of the house and when he was home the flag was raised. The whole property has had a complete facelift and was a usual 1940’s detached property. He also lived here with his spinster sister. I know this because I use to be his sisters hairdresser. ❤
What always used to make me laugh about Larry was the way he would look after saying something which he must have realized was funny, yet, he never let on that HE knew it was funny. He looked like he was wondering what everyone was laughing at, which made it all the more hilarious 🤣. That takes some good old-fashioned, old-school, skill, timing and comic genius and he sure had all of that. RIP.
The house has been extended and done up the balcony fence and gates have all been added as it defo didn’t look like that it had a wooden garage next to it. He was a gentleman.
Thanks Alan. First one I’ve watched and really enjoyed it. Larry sure was a great entertainer and I loved him. He had huge boots to fill taking over from Brucie but “didn’t he do well” 😂
Loved Larry Grayson. He was very funny and very camp I loved that. I remember watching him with my mum usually Saturday or Sunday night. Thanks for sharing this story with us ❤️ I can honestly say living alone and staying up most of the night watching your videos is brilliant. Love from Gill Holmfirth West Yorkshire ❤️
Boo to you Gill It's a sign of our age, but it's wonderful to reminisce. We remember those periods with these people when we had nice memories of watching them with our loved ones. Same for me I understand. Will say hello one day. I'm in London at the moment for the next month. I'll see you one day if you like. Take care of yourself. Alan
Love Larry. He had a special fondness for Redcar, close to where I live. It was at tge old cinema and stage that had a creaky door behind the stage which coined his catch phrase. The red door is still kept as a tribute to him, although the building has been pulled down and rebuilt, due to open soon, tge door is still kept as a piece of its history and in memory to Larry Grayson, who gave a kot of money to Redcar.
What a wonderfully respectful video. Thankyou so much for sharing it. Larry gave me and millions of others years of pleasure and I love him for it. I am so sorry to hear about the tragic life of your friend. I hope and pray that he is now in a happier place. You now have a new subscriber. Thanks again.
We scattered my father's ashes in this cemetery. He died in 1981. I travel back there from my home in Coventry each year on his birthday. I'm afraid he wasn't a fan of Larry Grayson but I thought he was hilarious!
I adored Larry when I was a kid. He was such a gent, he never rehearsed anything for The Generation Game as he didn't want the contestants to look silly. RIP Larry Grayson. Where is Bruce Forsythe buried?
Hello Anthony, that's what made Larry so lovely on all his programs including the generation game, he was so uncelebrity..... I have no idea but I'm going to look into Bruce. Probably not possible but thank you for the idea and nice to see you. Regards, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Brucie ashes are buried at the London palladium under the stage has he loved that theatre we have seen them in there and the ashes were given to his wife and kids so its just some of the ashes he was aproper showman and always will be.
Great video for a great entertainer. I found Larry very funny, infact when I see old clips sometimes on tv of the Generation Game I actually find him even funnier than I did back in the day, because let’s face it most true camp comics are all on the other side of the veil now , so yes I used to find Larry funny now I find him hilarious! Just a bit of info I did hear he moved to Torquay or Torbay , to retire but he could never settle down there so he came back to Nuneaton. How true I don’t know but that story rings a bell. The photo you showed with his rolls looks very similar to that bungalow you showed , although it looks more like a big house lol, but it does look like it could be the place. Like you say if I had that kinda money I wouldn’t live on a main road myself. Anyway great video , Alan as usual and thanks. When I was an extra I got to know June Brown quite well who played Dot Cotton and I actually went to her house a few times when she lived in South Croydon , although she moved to Surrey more in the country , but never went there, but I did her and her family’s astrological charts . Great woman. She maybe a good character to do but unfortunately I don’t know where she is buried or if cremated where. I did hear through the grapevine she wanted to be buried at sea , due to her navy roots, so that would be a bit awkward to film that one in the middle of an ocean. I will try and do a bit of research and see. Anyway take care and keep filming ❤️ John
Absolutely John. All that stuff about The English Riviera was true but I liked a bit with June. She was such a character. I remember watching that on a chat show with lady Gaga they got on like a house on fire. I watched her on the program West The royal trying to get fit and she smoked like a chimney but she was in the 90s at that point so they really wasn't a reason for it to be on that program but she was funny. This has got nothing to do with it but I saw some street art in Greece under a tunnel and it's 100% dot. Truly, I'll send you the picture and see what you think. She's smoking a cigarette And it's either an enormous coincidence or somebody in Greece like the character? Nice memories for you. Maybe if we meet one day you can tell me. Take care, Alan
The people in that house probably think you’re casing the joint😂. See you on Police 5! Nice presentation👍🏻. He was a funny guy. Slack Alice and Everard!
:-) Shirley, I spoke to a guy outside the house walking by and asked him did. Larry Grayson live in this house? he looked at me very suspiciously and asked me why so I said why.. why ? Did he think I was some kind of celebrity stalker of the dead? I'm going to knock on the doors and ring the buzzers and the intercoms in the future and if they don't want to answer they don't need to but I bet most of them will be happy to. Let's see. Thank you for the comment. Regards, Alan... PS. I'm still free in a canal van park up over tonight near the cemetery. X
@@shirleyn546 Well I suppose you could call it that Shirley but you're wrong. I do it mostly cuz I like it if I don't like them or remember them. I don't do them not unless I get a request. Let's give them respect and remember them and have a bit of fun that's my aim.
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep I can tell you enjoy it, that’s why they’re so enjoyable to watch, and you cover the celebs that others don’t. I never thought of requesting, do you have a limit on distance Alan?
@@shirleyn546 hello Shirley, no I'm going to travel around the UK. I'm heading down south towards London very soon but the hardest thing is finding the Graves and plaques. Sometimes the internet gives false information, but if you've got anybody you're thinking of let me know and I'll see if it's possible. But anywhere in the UK
I remember seeing an interview in which he said that when he was barely known, he never envied the stars at the top of the bill because their success meant that he could keep working. Also, he took great care always to dress well, as even though it wasn't a crime to be poor, it was unacceptable to look poorly dressed.
Just so sad, that the JOY these folks give are forgotten so quickly!?😭 So many of the "Resting Places" of so many FAMOUS people , lie, Sad n Neglected! I wonder how also..why their Families neglect them so!?? If anyone..it's the Fans' that lay flowers n tributes! Aye..we have our time..then into the echelons of history! Fondly remembered..easily FORGOT!😭
I do agree with you sometimes. Caroline, it makes me sad on some of them. It seems almost that once they're gone People seem to forget so quickly quite often, which is sad and like you say, especially with the families. And it's the one thing that gives me great pleasure from the films. It brings it back to us all that remember them. Thank you for your lovely comment
Nice to see you were in my home of Nuneaton. The house in Hinckley Road as changed a bit since Larry was there. He was a lovely man and if you seen him out in local pubs like I sometimes did he would never ignore you if you said hi to him. Nice video.
Hello Colin, you made my day to confirm that that was the house he lived in. I checked it with a few individuals and thank you ever so much I'm in your debt. Alan
Hi Alan. The last time I saw Larry he was chasing his little dog down the road from his little bungalow wich was near to the town centre. He was shouting " come here ya little bugger ". It had must have got out. But yes he loved his fans and he loved Nuneaton. All the best Alan can't wait for the next video. You make my wife and I laugh.
I often go to see Larry's grave as my sister is buried at the same cemetery. Nuneaton town centre is currently going through a renovation and a lot of new shops, buildings and a cinema are being built. Being named Grayson's place in name of Nuneatons favourite son

Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep would be great take care 🙂
He put a smile on your face ,I can not say anything bad about him another great vid alan paul
You look after yourself. Paul
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep love your vids i will keep on waching paul
Is the red door being kept at the new cinema at Redcar. There should never have pulled the old cinema down I I visited quite regular lovely place
Another great video. I love Larry Grayson.
Larry’s sister was my midwife when I lived in Stockingford, she was always on about Isla St Clair
You were filling up a bit at the end Alan. The no flowers made me sad as well when I bet he loved them in life. Nice tribute.
Hi Antony it does get me sometimes a bit at the end with it all culminates but thank you for your lovely comment you are great.
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Thanks Alan, keep up the good work.
I was told by a butcher in Leicester, who knew him, that he was very lonely before he died, which, if true, is very sad.
Another great video. Larry Grayson was a brilliant entertainer and as you said Alan, he was a lovely man. Thanks for the memories.
Joan. Love to see you in the future. I too loved Larry he did a lot for gay rights Joan virtual HUG
I'm single Joan ring me shut that door
We scattered my father's ashes in this cemetery. He died in 1981. I travel back there from my home in Coventry each year on his birthday. I'm afraid he wasn't a fan of Larry Grayson but I thought he was hilarious!
Another interesting visit…Thank you Alan.
Nice of you Steve watch out I'm doing lots more soon Best Alan
Another excellent show
The people in that house probably think you’re casing the joint😂.
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep trouble is, you are some sort of dead celebrity stalker in a way😂, but for your viewers interest and entertainment of course!
Thanks again for showing us larrys grave Alan
Larry was a lovely guy. And if you watch Nolly about on ITV it features him quite a lot. Take care friend
Well done 👊👊
Absolutely love this man. Sleep tight Larry 💋😘
I remember seeing an interview in which he said that when he was barely known, he never envied the stars at the top of the bill because their success meant that he could keep working. Also, he took great care always to dress well, as even though it wasn't a crime to be poor, it was unacceptable to look poorly dressed.
How interesting and insightful of him. He was a great influence on Michael Barrymore.
So sad seeing graves without flowers 😢
Hi Alan, Larry was superb on generation game , he was so much better than Bruce on it and we love Bruce too. Shame about the state of his grave.
A great tribute to Larry Grayson.
But Larry Grayson lived a few doors up from where you are filming x
Thank you you really are so very kind so sad about Larry s Grave but it seems most of his family aredeadxxx
My relative,he always talked about them on TV, the Treadwells.
The big headstone in the background is my wifes great aunt her husband was the local stonemason
Really do enjoy your thoughtful videos xxx
the great comedian would 100 next year
Thank you just watched 3 videos back to back. Loved them. Will subscribe to watch more. Thank you for being respectfulccc
Thanks for the great video you did a fantastic tribute. The main man would 9f been very moved 👍
Thank you extremely he was a sweet man
SHUT THAT DOOR🤣
I often go to see Larry's grave as my sister is buried at the same cemetery. Nuneaton town centre is currently going through a renovation and a lot of new shops, buildings and a cinema are being built. Being named Grayson's place in name of Nuneatons favourite son
great tribute. I thought Larry was funny, tongue in cheek, but never imo offensive, I think knowing him as a friend, must have been lovely. Flowers Paul is a good idea, it’s a shame some gravesnlook forgotten, but that’s life I suppose!
He did have a bungalow my brother was a painter and decorator, and painted Larry's bungalow.
