Lovely man was Richard Whiteley. I have meet Richard a few times as I would participate as a member of the invited studio audience at Yorkshire Television in Leeds. I was in the studio audience for 3 Calendar News Christmas specials along with been in the studio audience for Countdown. Was always friendly and as I would go up to Richard straight after the recordings and get signed fan cards and he also signed my book of his auto biography along with having a photograph taken with him. I grew up with Richard Whiteley watching him on Calendar News. In fact Richard Whiteley was Calendar the same as he did for Countdown and sadly both of them are not the same TV programmes anymore due to Richards untimely death. I am glad I got to meet Richard afew times in the 1980s and they are great memories to treasure of my regular visits to Yorkshire Television.

There are two celebrity deaths that I have been most shocked and saddened at, one is Rik Mayall, the other is Richard Whiteley, couldn't believe it when I heard the news back in 2005, and in my opinion Countdown has never been the same again.
