I had a landlord who had a little Yorkie puppy she named rabies, just so she could go to the dog park, yell “there’s a dog with rabies” or “that dog has rabies!”, freak a few people out, and then see her pick up this little tiny yorkie and say, “I got rabies! Rabies is safe!” 😂

My mum adopted one last Christmas. His real name is Dexter but we call him Fang. He doesn’t play nice with the family dogs and gets shot with a water pistol every time he snarls at them. He hadn’t been socialised and is terrified of my gentle but bouncy Parson Jack Russell and she is terrified of him. My Pug however takes no notice of his crap and just ignores him and he’s good with her now. He’s a pain in the butt. We are taking ours over every week to get him used to them as our dogs have always been a part of a larger pack with the extended family, and Fang is the only one with an issue. Mums previous doggies have all been great mates with the other dogs.

My daughter's fiance got her her "dream dog" seven years ago. She is a golden retriever. When she was a puppy, she looked like a giant beige cotton ball. She was the most flooffy animal I've ever seen. So, of course, they had to give her a really special and unique name. For some reason, they hit on "Loaf." It didn't fit her then, but omg, does it fit her now. She is the sturdiest and most rectangular dog I've ever seen. She is a Loaf of golden butter bread, and loves nothing more than to "loaf" around. She is overweight, I like to refer to her as "voluptuous." They took her to the vet after a strict diet of home cooked vegetables, the occasional egg, and fruit, as well as a serious exercise regime failed to produce any results. After a thorough checkup, including blood work also failed to turn up any issue, the vet's diagnosis was: "that's just the way she is." They just got a puppy. She's a mixed breed of Pit Bull, Mastiff, and some kind of herd dog, and also very "sturdy." They named her Jam. I made the observation that because Jam was only eight weeks old when they brought her home, she must see Loaf as a mother figure. I said, "Well, Jam must be all over Loaf." A few days later, my daughter sent me a video of them playing. Jam was, indeed, all over Loaf. She's small still, and as she was climbing on her new sister, Loaf would reach back, grab Jam by the scruff of her neck, and toss her around like she was on an amusement park ride. It was so adorable because obviously Loaf was loving being a big sister, and Jam was having the time of her life being tossed around again and again. Jam was definitely all over Loaf, Lol!

We have a standard poodle named Merle. The people we got him from came up with it as a reference to the famous deep southern country singer Merle Haggard. Our dog’s father was named Haggard. Merle’s name is also a reference to his fur coloring since he has what’s called a “blue merle” pattern. It’s plain but we still think it’s cute. :3

We named our cat Mozzarella, just because. Called him Mozzarella almost all the time. I'd been on a kick naming my cats for a while after food. Our first was Taco. Just had a good strong boy sound to it. Then Pita for my special girl cat. Pepper and Cocoa for two boy kittens that got adopted. Pecan for another girl cat who was adopted and finally Mozza. All good names but ones that sounded appropriate. Nothing stupid like Angel Food Cake or Tuna Cheese Casserole. 😂😂😂 Normal name for my current girl cat -- Tuulikki.
