in 2015, Pope Francis was visiting Philadelphia. I was watching the coverage on TV. I kept hearing a noise outside that sounded like a small animal in distress but the sound would stop when I went to the window to listen. I decided to go out and try to find what was making the sound. I found a tiny 3 week old kitten in the bushes by the window. I named her Poop Francis.

Insurance on my cats was the best decision I ever made. In two years they racked up a combined 18-20'000 USD in bills. Still got a 4-5k one glaring at me in the not so distant future. Only 1 of the cats are still in need of medical attention. One of them has Chronic Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis and got a full tooth extraction. The other I don't know the name of, but the distance between the teeth and her gums is too big - something more often seen in dogs than cats, so another full tooth extraction coming up eventually. Vet says its not necessary yet. So much for getting emotional support animals, I ended up being the emotional support human instead 😂

Oh that makes me jealous. There's a law here against vet sharing animal medical records with the owners, since I had a really tough time with my cats health and got 3 different vets on her, I need to call around and politely ask them to share records with each other and hope they do. It's hell when you have a medically challenged pet.

Cerenia? Gabapentin is so much better. Analgesic, sedative, and antixolyic all in one. Patient has kidney and/or liver dysfuction and can't take an NSAID, GABAPENTIN! Patient is extremely agitated in-hospital and is trying to claw your techs faces off, GABAPENTIN! Patient unstable maybe in heart failure but needs to stay still for rads or an echo, GABAPENTIN!

What is much worse than that is after a 40 min conversation, the owner says, " Can you send all of that to me in an email?"

Pet insurance may not save you. Remember that Nationwide pet insurance dropped thousands of pets, mostly senior pets, off their rolls just because they wanted to. Pet insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions, and guess who decides what's pre-existing? A claims adjuster. Not your veterinarian, not even A veterinarian. So they can (and have) deliberately misinterpret test results -- or flat out fabricate "facts" -- to exclude a condition from coverage. And of course you can't just leave and find a different pet insurance company, a new company won't cover it once it's been diagnosed. Pet insurance is legally considered property insurance, so there are no regulations regarding the insurance company's obligations around veterinary science or medical judgment. There are no legal levers to make them fulfill their obligations if they don't wanna. Our state's department of insurance basically gave us a shrug, and we couldn't even sue because no lawyer wanted to touch our case. I wish I'd known this before wasting $200 a month on pet insurance. That money would have gone a lot farther in a dedicated high-yield savings account.

I have a cat who is a FIP survivor thanks to FIP Warriors. In 19 days it will be her 2 year Cured anniversary! This was back when the only way to get compounded GS was from the black/grey market in China. The truth is I am SO grateful to the people in the FIP community who supported me through the treatment. My girl needed an extra 30 days since her bloodwork wasn't quite right on day 82. The 82 days of observation and monthly bloodwork to make sure the virus was really gone after we stopped the medication were nerve-wracking. I hope that, now that the drug is available through vets, there will still be a good support community for the cat owners.

Two of the cats I have/had came from a shelter. The third we took over from a friend.

My coworker had to put down all her chickens after catching bird flu. Does anyoneknow if it can effect reptiles? Many of my bigger repiles eat raw food, or eggs, and also spend time outside.

Please help, I have no idea what I can feed my ferrets if I have to remove these foods! I feed my ferrets Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw meats in addition to 6 different cat foods (raw and raw processed).

At least it’s a nice Midwest winter for us so no catio anyway but golly we’ve got lots of birds in our city lot sized neighborhood and a neighbor directly across our alley with a constantly stocked bird feeder that keeps all the squirrels happy too. We’ll have to be more careful.

One of my cats is on the last few days of Doxycycline and 60cc subQ Ringers/day for a home diagnosed URI. I live in a rural area and the roads have been treacherously icy. She's almost 17. I have 7 other cats, 5 were feral but none of them have been outside in over a year and none of them have any symptoms. There are quite a few pigeons around and now I'm worried I might have tracked H5N1 inside. Would the Bird Flu respond to Doxycycline? She's almost back to normal. I began her Ringers and Doxycycline last Friday and she's shown steady improvement. Her name is Star and she started growling at and smacking the other cats again so I'd say she's almost back to normal. It's the equivalent of an 84 year old living in a house with a couple of 20 year olds and 5 teenagers that she can never get away from.

Thank you for this. My cats are indoor, except i let come outside when I'm working in the yard.... They have to stay next to me. However, this doesn't sound good enough as they love hunting the moles and voles. Maybe this isnt a good time for that.

Now I'm wondering if our cats had this earlier this year! They all got horrible uri! We almost lost one but she made a full recovery! And even acts like her younger self.

I think most of my cats are right-pawed. I know my polydactyl girl is since she uses the right paw to yank food bowls towards her if she decides she doesn't want to eat out of her own bowl and would rather steal from someone else's. My chaotic tortie doesn't seem to have a preference; same for my idiot orange boy. I love that cat, but he's pretty stupid. My old orange man (he'll be 17 this Spring if he makes it) is right pawed for sure and he's much smarter than the young orange boy (he'll be 5 this summer, I think).

I had to call our vet when I was over at the clinic tending to a boarding dog over there (he had pins put in his elbow and was hospital boarding over there). There were a couple dogs on pumps and one of them had laid on her line, and the pump had been beeping for so long that it had switched to emitting a constant tone instead. The vet told me how to restart the pump and that she was on her way. In the boarding facility we end up having a number of extremely elderly dogs boarding, and I don't know how many times I've had to stop and check that the dog was actually sleeping and not deceased.

We had our Christmas party the Saturday before Christmas this year (usually it's the 2nd Sat of Dec). Anyway, one our vet techs was absolutely trashed barely 3 hours into the party. And yeah, last year, one our kennel techs (we have boarding facility connected with the vet clinic) did bring a dildo as her white elephant gift, lol. She didn't do that this year. Although, the tech who was trashed did bring an entire grocery store rotisserie chicken as her white elephant present. Very obviously the person who got that one did not actually eat it; it'd been sitting out a good 2 hours before the party started and then another 3 after that.

I lost my 16 year old cat Meowska a few months ago I am determined to take better care of my other cats kidneys. Do you know if this is going to be able to be used in younger cats throughout their life to keep their kidneys functioning properly?
