My family adopted brother cats that we named Tom and Jerry. (Funnily enough, not after the tv show) For anyone wondering, yes, Tom was black and white and Jerry is brown and white. My family also has a dog named Harley. After the motorcycle company. Can you tell my family owns motorcycles?

As a child in Oklahoma (in tornado alley), we were adopted by a stray tabby. Soon after, during a particularly stormy afternoon, she meowed to be let out the front door. About 30 seconds later, she meowed to be let in. Then she wanted out, then in again. This went on for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. So we named her Inagain-outagain. Called her Inagin for short.

Nobody knows where the cat came from.😂

I may have a cat, but since I got mine from a breeder I'm closer to the dog owner at the vet. I'm hoping my next cat will be a shelter cat, but because of my allergies I may have to go through another breeder.

If someone keeps breeding an animal (presumably a rabbit) and the animal keeps eating all the babies but they still keep trying breed the animal, that person shouldn’t be allowed near animals. Period. Either the human isn’t removing the babies to keep them safe properly, the animal is not being fed and taken care of properly or is otherwise incredibly stressed. Deliberately breeding animals at home is a risky move regardless and that pet owner should be investigated.

I guess the moral here is that cats are lower maintenance animals that suddenly show up in your life...which in my experience is true.

As a cat owner I can confirm it's pretty accurate. Last time I had to visit a vet the vet herself admitted " cats are aliens. You know, like creatures from other dimension". As for activity levels, yeah, one of my females is precisely like this. And no way in hell to change her mind about it.

Had that exact birthday conversation with my vet... I dunno I was sitting at a picnic table having lunch and she forced her head into my lunchbag and never left I have no idea when she was born

Can confirm. My purebred Keeshond is scared of my computer headset but my 7lb cat we found abandoned as a kitten terrorized my neighbors 100lb black lab to the point that he’d bolt if he saw her.

CDS: One time my mom opened the door and the shy local feral bolted inside through her legs with a kitten, and zoomed back out leaving the confused kitten on the rug. My mom ran outside yelling after her, "Come get your kid!" We think that mama cat knew winter was coming, and her baby was very small and sickly, so she came up with plan. Thousands in vet bills later, after the kitten grew up, she bolted out the door one day and was never seen again. We hope she just moved in with some richer people down the street.

lol my cats are littermates, but preeetty sure they had different dads. they came from a stray pregnant cat that was found and being fostered. I do at least know what went on with their mom and littermates because the foster parent kept in touch (in fact, a health issue with one littermate had us get testing for our two cats)... but the kittens were all *so* different and knowing cat color genetics I know at least two fathers were involved, lmao. That information can only go so far. Their personalities are night and day, and they've been raised together in the exact same situations their whole lives. If someone comes to the door to deliver a package or try to sell us something, one cat crawls up under the covers of the bed and curls up against my leg, and shakes until they leave. The other is super gregarious and runs out to meet strangers if they come over, and gets in the way of whatever they're trying to do.

Best story of the cat distribution system I saw was from a British show tracking many cats in a small town (one of the first ever such shows). The cat went back home, saw that the household who already had 4 kids had just bought a dog. He apparently went back out and moved 2 streets over and forced his way into the life of a nice couple lol Cat was fed up, decided 'nope', and found himself a new good home :D

There's a dog distribution system too. My best friend wasn't looking to get a dog, but a highly reactive dog got thrusted upon her. Now she's my sweet cuddle buddy. (Fyi I'm allergic to dogs, so I can only cuddle once in a while. 😅) If my best friend didn't take Sky, she would have been put down for her 'aggression'. In the past 2 years, she has absorbed all the love 3 people can bestow upon her and calmed down sooooooo much. All she needed was lots of love, a consistent set of rules, and a very calm person to look up to. 😊

"Cat distribution system" AH HA HA HA!!!! My friend had been fostering two orphaned infant kittens. When they were old enough to be adopted, she asked me if I'd like to meet them. I had been kitty free for a few years, so I said "sure". She brought them over. They looked around my house and apparently said "Yes, this will do nicely." and made themselves at home. One passed away last year at 13 years old, but her sister is still hanging in there at 14.

I wonder if it might be a dogs' version of stimming like you get with autistic/ADHD people, considering it goes away when their attention is diverted. Basically no more than a kind of fidget
