- But for real. The amount of times I’ve asked an animal to be a decent person is immeasurable. The conversations I make up between myself, my staff, and my patients is probably what keeps every day fun and interesting! 😂
My cat hissed when the vet entered the exam room. The vet said, "Well, no need to check your teeth, I can see from here that they look good!" 😄
I had something similar happen. The vet tried to get my cat's mouth open and she hissed, vet said "Oh, that works, thank you."
One of my cats tried to scratch the vet but got stuck in her t-shirt instead. All she said was "Nice healthy claws; good.✅"

My cat never attacked the vet, but DID do this crazy head thrash thing when they tried to feed her pills. It took a towel, four assistants and four tries to get them into her, and she broke the applicator.

Last time I took my cat to the vet for bloodwork (named Sir Link of Hyrule) I heard him screaming through two closed doors like he was dying. The tech came back in the room covered in white fur and rescheduled with Gabapentin. He was an angel the second time. Hahaha

He is really fluffy, but he will not let me brush him.
I got him at 5 months old from the animal shelter and I am pretty certain that he was a feral kitten before that!
He is just so scared of everything and everyone except me. But if I come near him with anything in my hand that isn’t obviously food or his dinner bowl, he is gone!
He would barely let me touch him for the first couple of years of his life with me!
It was only when he got really sick due to a stuck furball and needed emergency surgery, after I nursed him through that, he finally allowed me to start stroking him!
But then the same thing happened 1 week later and I had to rush him in a taxi to the after hours emergency vet hospital an hour away for the second time in 7 days for a second surgery.
They decided that it was time to shave him completely, to allow him time to heal.
My poor fluffy boy looked so tiny without all of his fur!
When he started getting furballs again in the summer, I reluctantly took him to my regular vet to get another hair cut.
I told them that he was terrified of strangers and anything he doesn’t know or understand and that he would absolutely hiss and carry on, in his own defence.
They offered to sedate him for his shave, which made me feel better as I hope that it would help him from feeling totally terrified the entire time he was there.
But then I got a phone call from one of of the vet nurses asking if they could give him a general anaesthetic because he was so worked up that the sedation just wasn’t working on him at all! My poor baby boy.
They said he was far too much of an aggressive cat to do anything to him unless he was under general anaesthetic!
I had never thought of him being aggressive, just defensive when strangers are trying to do something to him that he doesn’t understand.
He is the sweetest little thing at home, but if the doorbell rings, he will absolutely run and hide as far away as he can get.
I don’t know if he was feral before he was handed in to the shelter, just 1 day before I got him, but given his level of fear of anyone other than me, I worry that he might have been treated really poorly in his first 5 months before I took him home.
However, I am also glad that I took him home that day even though he was a bit bitey!!
@@leannepaxton5012 I have a fluff monster that's exactly the same, some idiot thought it was a good idea to drop a box of kittens off at a farm, probably assuming they'd just become barn cats. That is NOT how it works, and the farmer was actually kind enough to bring them all the way to the shelter where my mom adopted my baby girl, Jynx. She's a part Maine Coon calico fur baby, and we have to sedate her for vet visits. When we first brought her home, my mom called her a spaz cat, because she'd freak out over the littlest thing. She can be super aggressive, and has even drawn blood on me, from biting and clawing. She can be an amazing cuddle bug, but some things just freak her out, and I've had to set up several hidey hole spots for her to retreat to when things get scary for her.
Of course he was hahaha. My cat needs it too during some appointments. But not cus he tries to murder people or screams. He gets so stressed he basically turns all quiet, weak and starts shivering with actual fever 😥

I've heard my vets talk to my green tree python, a very snappy young lady, when they took her in the back and told her that she was too pretty to bite, and she's embarrassing herself by being so grumpy. When she would lunge at them, I would hear the "shame on you" voice while they cooed at her for being such a naughty girl. There is no better feeling than a vet and vet techs who love your animals as much as you do.
Neighbors who love your pet are pretty special, too. I've been so lucky to have neighbors who love my furry room mates.
There was a very aggressive green tree python that lived in the lobby of the vet clinic we took my bearded dragon to, and shadowed at. Every time someone approached the tank you could hear the lady at the check in desk go: "Don't open the taaannk!!!" Because despite the sign above the tank saying "DANGER! SNAKE!" In horror movie font, people kept trying to pet her anyway. (It's an exotic pets clinic, so a sizable portion of the clients are reptile lovers. To be fair, before Danger-Snake - that's literally her name - lived there, the tank had a very petable bearded dragon, so I guess people just assumed she was friendly too, and the sign was a joke...she was NOT friendly...)

On the flipside, I managed to bring our feral born barn tomcat to our vet. Trying to catch him in time for an appointment took a few tries. The staff had a fight in the hall over who had to deal with him. But he was a purrfect gentleman the entire time. Purred so hard he was drooling, rubbed on everybody, stood on his hind feet to rub on the vet's chin and give her kisses. He didn't even notice them giving him shots. He was just delighted at all the people who could pet him. I think he'd been in a house maybe once before, and there he was being a huge ham, and having the time of his life. Cats just live to defy our expectations.

One of our prized possessions is a video of an emergency vet nurse petting our bunny and saying, "She's not even real, you guys! I love her so much!" We were so proud that she only takes her aggression out on us and not the medical professionals trying to help her!

Rabbits react like that when they are in shock - because they are afraid to die because of strangers around them in a strange environment. It's just like with kids - if they trust you, they will be brave enough to defy you. If they are scared of everyone but their family they will go along with everything a teacher or neighbor asks them to.
I hope you all have at least one 24/7 bunny mate for your rabbit since it raises their stress levels extremely if they don't have the resemblance of the family around them constantly that in the wild they would have. Alone they feel extremely vulnerable. Due to their huge social needs they can go through the process of meeting a new 24/7 friend at every age - I've seen a 7 year old rabbit find a friend and she was so delighted ❤ There is also a lot of information online on the process of introducing rabbits to each other in order for them to live together forever.
With bunnies it's always so important to make sure that they are as calm as possible - in the sense of reassured. And there is a lot that we can do that behavioral biology can teach us about our rabbits' need for a feeling of safety👍
And experiencing a relaxed rabbit with one or more 247/ friends is just something that I wouldn't trade for anything❤
@@Myladyinred999 True!! Since moving out with my younger brother from our (kind of abusive) home, I noticed he's been more cranky and snappy a lot often. It's because he feels safe to express that now, instead of bottling it up until he breaks. On one hand I'm a bit sad that what I see of him is the moody person, versus what his friends see of him is the "pleasant" person, but I also really wouldn't like it any other way. He's just safe enough to be open about when he's feeling overwhelmed due to his autism etc, now, and that means a lot to me. So important!

I had a white cat named Danny who we adopted when he was 4 years old. He was paranoid, scared, & grumpy when we got him. He hated the vet, we had to warn them he was aggressive. But it was also at the vet that I first realized he trusted me: he ran away from the vet tech, jumped on me, put his front paws on my chest and did the cat version of "help me!!!". That was the first time he treated me as his "safe place" & I knew then I'd finally gained his trust. (It took 2 years.)

When I got the latest two we had, the older one was already trusting us before we even bought them from a family in an another city. It took a month before his brother came out from his hiding place and let me pet him. I was the first person he went to. He probably realised if his brother felt safe with me, then he would be too.
He was scared of men, that floofball. His brother was so trusting, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had ended up greeting thieves like they're friends. Such a silly cat.

My old cat Zia was a tortoiseshell demon. At her desexing appointment the vet had to call in two nurses to hold her down just so he could anaesthetise her. When the vet finished her op he took off his gloves, disposed of them, turned back around and she was awake and had ripped out two stitches. She made two nurses and the vet bleed that day and I was rather sternly told not to bring her back to that vet. The old bat lived until she was nearly 20. The night she died I awoke to find she could no longer walk so I picked her up and the first thing she did was try and claw my face. I miss her spunk so much.

The torti-tude is REAL! My Vivian is a tortie and she asks for pets and then is mad you are petting her. She wants to sit with you then slaps when you say she is pretty. She hates all the other cats I have though she will tolerate one- At a distance. I love her to death and beyond, but girl is VERY prickly!
I have a tortie-point-siamese. She only hissed at the vet once as a kitten when they gave her, her first booster shot. She got startled when they got her with the needle. First and only time I’ve ever heard her hiss, she’s a sweetheart.
Torties are *always* a problem. We are super aware of this in the field: we love them regardless!

Our cat (British Shorthair) had a run-in with something bad three weeks ago, her mouth and throat had acid burns. We went to the vet and she was an angel, the staff loved her. When we came back for a check-up today, she was feeling a lot better, and guess what - her fighting spirit came back with a vengeance. "Aww, isn't she cute!" quickly turned into a sprint for the next pair of extra thick gloves.
Honestly, as a vet tech, when the cranky ones aren't cranky it makes me so worried and I'm always happy to see them being cranky again!🤣
My Brit was infamous for purring and rubbing on everyone at the vet. Unfortunately, he had a heart defect that eventually led to his early death. In order to do his annual heart exam they had to do ultrasounds because they didn’t want to sedate him- due to the heart condition- and he purred too loud for them to hear his heart. He was an awesome cat who was convinced he was a dog.

I had a British Shorthair who generally hated the vets. Rarely he was that nice cute cuddle bug although it did happen. Mostly, he wanted to draw blood. Just because. He was fearless, scruffing him didn't work because he had abs strong enough to kick with his back legs and he was an enthusiastic biter.
And then he was done a d sat there looking all fuzzy and pretty. It's been almost exactly a year since someone stole him.
I had a foster kitten who loved everyone, uncle vet included. She had an URI and... to stop a cat from purring, you just wave her in the air, apparently.
Every time my cat went to the vet, she was ALWAYS a perfect little patient. They would always remark about what a perfect little lady she was. She even let them start an IV without even being held. But let me get her home and try to give her the meds they prescribed? I felt like I was trying to give meds to a rabid wolverine!
It's amazing how cats can either be okay with strangers, or okay at home.
The first time our latest cat went to the vet she spun on him in an attempt to bite. His reaction? "She's quick, isn't she?" On one of the later visits I put a blanket from home on the table, her on the blanket, and then draped it over her. She was much calmer for that visit...at least until the vet leaned on the table, not realizing that the lumpy blanket hid a cat. He was quite startled when the blanket growled at him.😂

We had a Bengal cat named Shanti who legitimately tried to kill us when we trimmed her claws. Took 3 people to do it with the cat scruffed and wrapped in a towel. She would bite, claw and writhe until we finished and we usually came away with wounds. She lived to be 18 and literally fought death before she finally passed of old age.
And then there's one of our current Bengals, Maraly, who just went to the vet yesterday and they said she was the nicest Bengal they'd ever treated, she didn't scream or fuss at them at all. The dichotomy of cats. 😂

My brother's in-laws have a real asshole of a cat named Gump. They were at a loss trying to figure out how to trim his claws without him tearing them to shreds until they realized that he becomes the chillest cat when in the car. They were able to trim his claws in the car with ZERO fuss.
My cat Henrietta is 17 at this point. She lived for a year on the streets, and was feral. She was taken in as a teen mom, and then spent a year in the shelter. I met her when she was two, and she still runs away from me if I move too quickly. Though after about a year of living together, she decided I was good and that snuggling is good.

So it's always been a matter of getting her burritoed up at the vets. I feel bad because she's such an affectionate little thing.
Well, I moved, and I had to take her to the vet because she was really sick and not sleeping. Did my usual spiel warning the vets that she was a harriden, and then I left because this was during the pandemic and I wasn't allowed to stay.
Apparently, Henrietta became the vet's new lapcat. Had her carrier in the office, and was sitting there with my cat on her lap when she called me to tell me it was all clear and I could pick her up. I'm not picky about which vets my other cats see. But that one is Henrietta's doctor until she retires. I don't know what black magic she worked, but it was almost like I was taking an entirely different cat home with me (note, Henrietta has VERY distinctive markings. She's a what cat with random black splotches. I'm really sure it still is her). She just seems happier for having met that vet.
Sometimes, it really is about meeting more people that don't suck.
I moved around a lot after college, but once I found a clinic where my neurotic little dog would eat the treat they handed her for behaving during her appointment instead of dropping it on the floor, I knew I'd found a good place. Even after she passed, my foxhound wants to walk around their parking lot when we drive by on the way to the grocery store in the next lot over, because the vet smells like all the friends.

@@tiffanybrantley23 I was told she was pregnant at like 1 year old. I didn't know her then and never saw her kittens. But I think teen mom fits for a creature that's got a 15 year lifespan and is pregnant at 1.
Vet and her had a deep conversation 😂 sometimes the right vet knows just what to do to put their patients at ease, even if they’re just doing standard practice. Love and care goes a looong way. There are, unfortunately, a lot of vets that go through significant empathy burnout, and due to the rigorous and often hectic schedules they have, just never get the chance to recover it. My parents dog was a victim of this, he was a neurotic little chihuahua (as ALL chihuahuas are lol) and just a jumpy little guy in general, but he never bit or threatened to unless he thought he didn’t have a way out. (My parents received him from my older sisters family, as her kids kept cornering him and pulling at him, throwing things at him amd just generally being not very kind, so he was given to them and is much happier in a child free home) He was at this particular appointment for teeth problems, as is usually w tiny dogs when they reach a certain age, it just gets way more likely. He was incredibly sensitive abt it, amd it turns out his immune system was attacking his teeth from the root. At first, the vet was just going abt his business, albeit somewhat curt and exasperated. We tried to supply help amd info as much as we could while restraining him so the vet could look examine him, but when he got to the mouth our dog did a quick little snip. Vet got a good enough look and grabbed his head to show us there was a nasty infection from the sores, amd began bearing down on those sores to show us the pus. Our dog yelped and whined amd wrenched himself free, biting him. He didn’t bite hard bc his mouth hurt, there was no mark except the pus from where the vet had pushed. Our dog needed a couple shots, but by this point was panicking. We tried to calm him and hold him still, but he was wriggly and wouldn’t stay still. The vet yelled down the hall for an assistant who picked him up amd put him in a headlock while he literally screamed in fear. They rolled their eyes at it, and yeah he IS a drama queen, but it was still p upsetting to hear. The assistant couldn’t hold him still for the last one, so then (and here is where it gets bad) he picked our dog up by the head, slammed him into the exam table, and screamed “SHUT UP AMD STAY STILL!!!!” While the dog let out the most pitiful wail I’ve ever heard out of dog, even in movies. We cried out, and the vet told us to “calm down, it had to be done.” THEN proceeded to tell us our “womanly emotions” were getting in the way of actual care. My dad unfortunately backed him up, and our mom wasn’t there, so me and my sibling were forced to shut up abt it. But he was lethargic and depressed the next three days, while his mouth swelled to “stung by a bee” levels where the vet had pushed and hit him. Attempts to reach out for recompense for this were met w more apathy and even mockery. (We found out that this vet had many such accounts like ours, but had connections such as he was never punished. He also OWNED the clinic, so.) We left and found a new vet, nervous for his first time back after that incident. He was indeed fearful and jumpy when we got in, but as soon as the vet tech came out to take us to our room, she greeted him like a guest and pat her legs to encourage him to come, and he instantly git the message that these ppl were here to help. He RAN over, wagging and putting his paws up to be held, and though he still got pouty when the exam happened, he sat still and even tried to offer some kisses. Sometimes you just hit the perfect vet for your animal that just completely puts them at ease.
Years ago we had a dog that we couldn’t trim his nails. We had to take him to the vet to trim them. The vet techs all said he was absolute angel for them every time, they loved him. We’d try it at home and he’d snarl, growl and threaten to bite us. Would bite us if we kept trying. The vet gave us a better rate for pre-paying in advance. 🤣
We just had to have our vet clip our beagle's nails. Even with three people wrangling him, he goes into full panic mode the second I go for the second nail. Them? Perfect angel. Didn't need bribes or manhandling.
I took my big boy to the vet for nail clipping. They couldn't do it, because the nails were too strong. They said I need an angle grinder.
Our Dr. Emily to our very angry cat Chester, "I know it's scary Chester." I adore her, she never gets mad at him and doesn't blame him for his fear. He has been through a lot medically and she recognizes his fear is real. (drugs only help so much sometimes)
My little voids first checkup after i adopted her, she went from sweet , lovable angel into fur creature full of hate who cussed like a sailor in 30 seconds. Her vet , though, was amazing. Just calmly called in assistance and told Magic she knew she was only being grumpy because she was scared. ❤

My last Guide dog would make the technicians bribe him with cookies before he would get on the scale. And he would make them bribe him with cookies to get off… Too smart for his own good.
My spinger spaniel/fox terrier mix was the most gentle, well-behaved dog.
Being taken back for blood work, I heard another vet tech call out his name with pure joy.

There's a RUclipsr with a channel called Girl with the Dogs, she's a groomer. Dogs and cats, every kind of behavior under the sun. She handles them so well and we get to see many different breeds and conditions.
I'm guessing vets and their staff have a lot in common with her. Some of the animals get pretty saucy.

I have a spicy calico cat who does not do well at the vet at all, and does even worse if I'm not holding her. I dread taking her to new vets because they never believe me when I tell them that they'll need me to be holding her if they want to get any kind of medicine in her, or frankly do any kind of exam at all. Inevitably, they think they can do it solo and it never ends well. I know its pretty unusual for a cat to act like that, but it's also pretty frustrating to never be believed until she unleashes the full force of her fury on them. It's amazing the kind of damage a 7lb cat can cause!
It’s often clinic or company policy not to let an owner restrain their own animal, especially if it’s a bite risk. I think it’s due to fear of lawsuits and also that many owners just aren’t trained (or willing) to properly restrain. I’m not saying that’s the case with you and your cat, but it’s likely policy and/or past experiences that make new vet staff reluctant to let you hold her. It sounds like you’re someone who knows their pet well and knows how to keep her restrained though, which is awesome!
Honestly, as a former preschool teacher, this was the vibe everyday that was going on in my head working with toddlers. 😂
I just used this video to train my dog to recognize laughing seizures, since the laughing fits from it are so, so close in sound. She did such a great job!

i can imagine what was going on when tobi broke his wing. he was sedated and i could still hear him screaming in the back. when i brought him back for a follow up, they ask how he was that day. i said spicy. tech make it loud and clear in the back that tobi was spicy that morning.
he fights the vets and techs during wellness visits too. he bit the tech and beat the vet with his wing just because they were trying to clip his nails.

my mom ran into the vet out of office, and he didnt immediately recognize her, so she said her name (its not typical) and he went "Oh! grumpy diabetic cat?" and she went "yes....he's really very nice at home..."

Even my neighbors are "Ben the Dalmatian's Dad" and "Princess the Cat's Mom" as often as their actual names.
The bird comment is real. The vets called my pet parrot "very sweet" but I don't believe that for a second. He constantly bites everyone in our family, and before we realized we shouldn't take the bird out when guests come over, he would fly to the guest's heads and get caught in their hair and bite them. He's a demon child but we love him anyways.

When I was a child, we had a semi feral cat hanging around that got into a lot of fights. Dad used to periodically have to drag him to the vet...needless to say, he was not their favorite patient. The vet, the vet's assistants and Dad would all wind up with scratches on their arms. Our next cat though was an absolute sweetheart who would just resign herself to treatment. When she passed, not only did we get a condolence card (standard with our vet practice), we got a handwritten note from the vet praising Peppermint for being such a model patient. The most recent cat, Leo, was fine on his first couple visits except when they took a picture for his records. The person behind the camera caught him in mid hiss of displeasure. After he caught on that the vet's office was not a fun place to visit, he got a lot spicier, to the point where they ordered gabapentin for him and asked me to dose him before each visit. But that last trip, when I had to have him put to sleep...I would've given anything to see just a hint of fight in him 😥

I never cease to be impressed with the knowledge vets from mammals to reptiles and more. How often vets have to be inventive, fast witted, and patience that would make the angles weep. For me, losing my Airedale from massive seizures with the vet having her on the table, sedated, and the techs rapidly setting up the supportive treatment in minutes. A 13 years of age the onset of mild seizures and finally a massive seizure A resulted with irreversible tachycardia and hyperthermia, all explained to us and support for making the only decision, what would be an inevitable decision to euthanize her. The vet, the techs understand she was a member of the family, Vet school in the United States is crushingly expensive, then setting up or buying into a practice, and then getting people to understand humans rarely see the full charges of our medical bills, the insurance, the negotiating, which isn't there for our pets. A lifetime of educational debt.

I had a cat that was a small giant of a cat. Looked like a bobcat wearing a tuxedo. Super patient for most things. He'd lay down and relax at a vet if he had been there before. Until any thermometer would make an appearance. He had an incident when he younger where his butt tried successfully to eat the thermometer. He had to be taken into the back to have it retrieved. Ever after that he would make his displeasure known if he saw a thermometer. The vet or vet tech would distract him with food(he was a chunky boy) while the other would have to hide the thermometer and sneak up behind him.
Thank goodness they no longer take temperatures using that method.
My old man cat - sadly many years gone - had a similar problem. A severely infected blocked anal gland was extremely painfully resolved by a small horde of vet techs, and from that day on, anyone that showed interest in his butt was the enemy. (This included my current cat, whose innocent sniffs were NOT appreciated.)
When he got sick toward the end, temperature taking was a last resort since it caused him so much distress, but every vet we took him to chuckled at hearing that their grumpy patient had “PTAssD”

How in the world did that butt eating incident happen? Isn’t the end that shows the temperature quite a bit larger than the end that was inserted? Unless it was an old school manual kind but even then they are not short so how did they allow the whole thing to be ‘taken’ out of their hands??

I mean, I talk to my own animals that way when they're being particularly grouchy.

When I first took in a stray cat that I bonded with I took him to the vet to "give him everything" and I remember the vet tech coming back into the room to grab his carrier after hearing the loudest and maddest noises I've ever heard from my wheezy guy before or since.
Our pit loves the vet. Cause all the attention is on her. She grins and loves it.
But if a vet acts scared of her....well, the dog seems to assume that only bad people are scared of her.
I adopted a fairly aggressive cat, can so relate to asking animals to be a decent person!

When someone dumped a savannah monitor in really rough shape on my foorstep i took her to the vet. We had a towel over Potatoe's eyes so we could get the ticks off and clip the daggers that were her feet. She managed to get ahold of the towel while trying to getthe vets fingers and proceded to violently death roll it so hard she almost yeeted herself off the examine table, hit me in the stomach, knocked me iver, and cracked my head in. Im pretty sure im the only one who came in for my pets medical exam and ended up with one of my own.
My chameleons on the otherhand love the vet. Except one, who "loves" the vets anatomical model of a beardie. He has a weird kink for beardies and i have no idea why. He dislikes the vet because she wont let him do two person pushups with the beardie. He also likes to pull the plug on the vets computer if we arent paying attention.
My frilly hates the vet. And the vet office. And pretty much everyone except me. And even then he holds a grudge for a while after taking him to the vet.
It sounds like almost every vet visit is some type of potential hazardous adventure... Unplugging the computer gave me a good laugh. 😄 Hoping you haven't had to start wearing a bike helmet and body armor for some of your visits! You could write a funny kids book about all your brood's vet visits, minus the attempted amorous advances on the vet's equipment, of course! 😂

My senior kitty S'more spent the day at the vet to have sedation and dental. They called in the middle of the day to let me know she was awake and ok. I could hear S;more yelling and giving them hell in the background. The vet tech told me: Sweetie is fine. We love her.
That is when I knew we had found the right vet. Sweetie lived for several more years to give them hell.
The best is the genuine joy and excitement when a dog who's been lateral for the past two days suddenly snaps and almost takes off a finger. "Ooookayyyyy... we feelin spicy today? Stepping back off the rainbow bridge I see."
And my personal favorite, "Please let go of the ceiling, im supposed to be on break"
My big boy never liked to get on things/jump up on things, especially if asked, even the large flat scale at the vet went from not caring to digging in his feet when he realized it is something you get onto. But he hurt his shoulder and I did a lot of physical therapy with him, so now he comes into the room, goes to the table (if it's lowered), jumps up and sits, just waiting like the good boy he is 😂❤🐕

Iverson sat down immediately the moment she crouched, then scooted backwards into my open legs, and stared her down. When I adopted my husky last year (my first dog, but loving & researching huskies for years I couldn't resist once meeting him. Estimated 3 years at the time), I was so worried how he'd behave at the vet. We had no history on him besides the shelter's vets noting he tended to whip his head around when handled and therefore muzzling him, and knowing I had to gain his trust so he wouldn't try to whip his head around to mouth me when harnessing him. He was so nervous of strangers, but you could tell a sweetheart. He was a nervous handful for his first two vet visits with us, we did the muzzle for safety and they administered his vaccines in the exam room with me. He left generous "tips" afterwards. I was so happy this year when all he wanted was to sniff and explore everything, didn't give them a problem with exams or going to the back without me for his vaccines besides being a little resistant to standing still. He did leave one more "tip" on the scale, but in his defense it was after they'd been trying and failing to elicit a stool sample in the back. XD
Between him and keeping guinea pigs prior, it's really me that's the nervous anxious one that needs soothing. XD So much respect for vet teams doing their best with patients & people

We had a dog triaged for eating something poisonous (I don't remember what) and she immediately tried to tear my face off when I went to get vitals(just like turned on a dime). We ended up getting a basket muzzle on her, gave her the vomit eyedrops, and let her just vomit through it. Thankfully I was not the one who had to clean the muzzle afterward
[Branded name] eyedrops are amazing. They're more expensive, but at that point it's like an aggression tax
I hated using ocular insert apomorphine - it had such a low success rate for us.. but in that situation? All the way! lol
@@little_grey_mouse Weird. Ours always works fine. Though, idk if it's apomorphine or another drug - I just know it's eyedrops. Different brand/dose/directions maybe? Ours has a weight:dose chart on the package insert and the dose gets repeated 15 minutes later, and I think optionally a 3rd time if the first 2 didn't work.
I've never actually administered the drops which is why I'm not clear on details, but I've held many an improvised vomit bucket(big litterbox + potty pad) and dug through vomit for foreign bodies

Our vet and vet techs are so good to our animals.❤ Our (since passed) cat, Cassie, was sweet at home. To clip her nails it took 2 vet techs, one towel wrapped cat, and a vet with raptor gloves. Cassie was large and in charge. Her angry screams scared the dogs in the waiting room. I was proud, but embarrassed. They were always so good to her.❤
As a pet sitter and with 11 pets of my own… the constant stream of trying to reason with them is real (especially when they are barking or crowing their little heads off etc) 🙌🏻

The vet loved my cat. Literally every time he'd come in, I'd notice the techs/hear them make delighted exclamation. He was just so polite and sweet throughout. When I had to bring him in to have him cremated after he passed from old age, I could tell they shared in my sadness. They sent me his paw prints like they usually do with cremated pets, but they included a letter too which meant a lot to me.

I'd rather not know what our previous vet said to my cat. He was a big guy and mostly did horses and I brought my a**hole to get his teeth done. And the vets confidence and smile smile went away in an instant when I left and said: yeah, whatever just be careful he aims directly for the face.
.... Well I did find a new vet. She is closer to my place and the first and only person in "uniform" that can touch and even inject him without him being hogtied.
Not a veterinarian, but I work with animals and have said "put your angry eyes away!" before.

All vets LOVE my cat because she’s so terrified at the vet she sits perfectly still and does whatever she’s told. And then they can’t figure why I struggle with her meds when she’s so docile. My dudes, she doesn’t act like an angel with ME. 😂
That was my elderly cat, too. Passive at the vet and resistant with me at home, where she felt comfortable and confident. We eventually came to an understanding about her meds but I still had to be careful.

I only once had to leave my cat (feral cat, nice at home, female, then 1 y.o.) alone at the vet. It was after I warned my vet that she was feral and I didn't know how she'd behave at the vet (first time). The moment he opened her cage she ran around the room, climbed the wall, threw everything around... The moment the scalpels flew I had to leave the room while he and the vet assistant caught and sedated her. I apologized a dozen times and offered compensation. He declined, but I still filled the tip jar. Later on, she behaved a lot better.

I had a cat who absolutely HATED one particular vet at our clinic. We would be in the exam room, and she would hear his voice and "follow" it down the hall outside, growling the entire time. Needless to say, we made sure to schedule her with the OTHER vet at the clinic 😂 She had no problem with him.

That's why I checked in with my vet regularly for just a visit, some scratches and a little check up on his weight (the latter I did myself). He's 1 1/2 years now, big Kangal mix and I'm happy to see that he trusts our vet and lets him do anything
When my oldest cat goes to the vet I warn them he's mean. I always say, do what you need to do to get it done. I know you won't hurt him, just tell me how to help. 3 people is the average for doing anything with him.

The vet staff love my cats lol one is a total coward and basically just freezes up when he's scare which makes him very easy to handle, and the other one is a social butterfly who loves attention and is usually so busy soaking up all the attention she barely notices getting a shot or two
