    Can’t for the life of me understand why everyone in the audience were not on their feet after this incredible performances by two of the late greats.

      Because it's just a typical awards audiance, not really interested in artistry. They want to be seen, not really see or hear something.

      Pepper has his feet planted firmly in the Bebop era and I'm not sure people in the audience understood it.

    I've heard some great bari sax players like:Jerry Mulligan,Bruce Johnstone and Cecil Payne but,none had the incredible technique like Pepper Adams.He was voted DownBeat Readers' poll for best baritone saxophonist in the world in 82' unseating Jerry Mulligan who held that honor sincee 1953.

    Really I listened lot lot Music and compose and played myself...but this 2 really can let me with mouth open for energy, joy and bravura!!

    That was a great performance! I graduated that year 1982 and I remember seeing this on the Grammy’s.😌🎶🎷🎤👍🏾

    I never even knew this happened. Sorry I didn't because I saw him play at a club in NJ the next year. He was very gracious to speak with.

      That’s the great Pepper Adams. Probably one of the best Bari players if not greatest jazz musicians of all time
