The peruvian cajon' s percussion is indescribable. Great peruvian musicians these two.

My father was a member of Mexico's leading band "La Sonora Santanera" and He was the last of its original members to pass away. A few years ago I met Alex Acuna on a gig I was attending as a guest and during a break I went outside to smoke and take a breather and I, unintentionally met this "character", I believe he's from Peru. I'd played with Peruvian groups before because I love their "Negroide" music, just as Cubans or Brasilians have their own mix of African-Hispanic-Caribbean roots in music, Peru is no exception, except that I have met some fine Peruvian musicians and on that note I striked a conversation with Alex outside the joint where, like I've said, he was playing and I was an invited guest. After a few hi's and how are you's and a few comments about the Latin Jazz scene gathered there that night and since I didn't know nothing about this guy, I asked how long he had been doing this Latin Jazz stuff and my God! he just went on and on all about his achievements to the point where I mentioned that unfortunately, I never heard about him and I was honest, never had until I met him which lead to him asking me about my background and my family's musical side and since I grew tired of hearing him ranting and raving about himself (funny, because I have played with major musicians in the high ranks of Artists like Poncho Sanchez, Johnny Polanco, Latin Fussion, Son Mayor, Tabaco y Ron and Oscar D'Leon *as a guest*, just to name a few. Also played with My good buddy, Jorge Balmaseda and my mentor Rudy Regalado from Chevere and others, I never heard of him before) I decided to walk away from this one sided conversation, all about him, of course. Before I did, he asked me who my father was and I proudly said: My father was one the 1st founders of La Sonora Santanera, a leading band of the 50's , 60's and 70's back in Mexico, First Trumpet and Musical Director and composer and he replied; Yeah, I heard them before and they never amounted to much, in fact, I think their music is pretty Shitty and Mediocre... ??!?? WTF?!? coming from a so called "realized" musician like this Alex Acuna guy that he would simply put down a major band of the 50's 60's 70's and even 80's. I mean even today, this S.S. Band still gathers some major crowds all over the world! You don't get to last through a generation over 60 years of music by being "Mediocre" right? I mean, WHAT AN ASSHOLE!!! he must be a psychological Fucking Midget to feel he has to make a humiliating comment like that just to feel "big" or pat his fucking Ego. I've seen him at a few gigs since then and among musicians, you have to acknowledge a few friends and local guys you meet on gigs but every time I happen to be in the same place where he, unluckily has to play too, I just simply ignore this Total Asshole Douche bag and I think he finally realized what he did wrong but I don't care. I will keep acknowledging that he doesn't exist or even matter for that fact. Why do you need to put others down just to justify your place in the music scene? You are only as important as you play and how you respect others for their achievements, but this Asshole will never have my respect regardless of how good he plays. Like my Dad used to say of some of this people walking around the musical scene: You can walk among Dollars, but you will never be worth more than a fucking nickel. May God keep my Father in Heaven.
Well, maybe your father's band was, indeed, shitty. By the way, I heard about Weather Report way before I even knew Alex played with them. On the other hand, La Sonora Santanera.... Also, usually assholes are well known, and you hear about them from a whole lot of people in the business. You seem to be alone in your characterization of Alex Acuna. Maybe you are the problem?
