Checking out a 2006 F150 V6. At $1500 CAD it looks like a steal. Thanks for this video; the old V6 is definitely the better option for this model. Hopefully I can get my hands on one.

01 4.6 with 2,25000 miles on it and never any problems just charged plugs , coils and valves cover gaskets. still change oil every 3,000 miles and it shows. I do all the maintenance except transmission fluid change take it to the shop, let them keep an eye on it. I pull my 16 ft. Fishing boat and go to Colorado a couple times a year about 9,000 miles one way.it’s been a good trk. Bought it with 35000 miles in 02 .

The best V8 engine for the 2004-10 F-150 is the 4.6 2 valve. Stay away from the 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 3 valve engines. If you are going to buy an 04-10 F150, stay away from the 5.4. Any Super Duty from 2003-04 with the 6.0 PSD and all 2005-10 Super Duty trucks should be avoided at all costs no matter if it’s a 6.0 and 6.4 PSD, or the 5.4 and 6.8 3 valve engine.

I have a 2005 F150 STX with the 4.2 and all the heavy duty towing specs. I just rebuilt the entire front end at just shy of 200k and all I can say as it’s been almost bulletproof since day 1. Do your maintenance, don’t abuse it and it’ll serve you well. I’ve run factory filters and semi synthetic oil from day one, drained and replaced tranny filter every 40k and replaced the water pipe in the front of the intake. Other than doing wear items like tires and brakes I have zero complaints.

You need to put back fan shroud on there too. Also, air intake valve or another issue when getting carbon build-up.

My 2005 v6 4.2L XL F150 would lose coolant from the Reservoir. About a gallon every 2 months. My oil is clean so the head gasket are good. I did a pressure check and had no leaks. Replaced the cap and still kept losing fluid. Replaced the reservoir and still keeps losing fluid. Did another pressure test waited to see leaks and still no leaks. Seems i lose fluid from evaporation. I also noticed after setting all night i crank it up and fluid runs out the exhaust pipe. There is a little clear smoke for 5 minute at idle then no smoke so its not leaking into the exhaust.

Yeah these trucks are pretty bulletproof now after Ford came out with the new Cam phasers,Melling 340 High Volume pump, and Steel tensioner. Also the spark plug issues that would break was because you have to decarbonize the engine before you extract the spark plugs.I cant say the same for Gm and Chevy transmission and other failures that they haven't even tried making an adjustment after all the recalls they had they actually had to get a bailout because of it.

  • @Voiceinthewoods

your missing fan shroud.too bad it wasn't a 5 speed.won't have a auto v6.bad thing i hate is the gauges gets stupid with them.bought mine with 98,000 miles and was from cali.replaced water pump and radiator.and transmission fluid only have to change it every 60,000 miles since mines a 5 speed.mines now got almost 130,000 on it.oh in addition if you lock your key by mistake or it locks on you while running and door shuts behind you(while putting mail in mail box) if you bust out a driver or passenger door window. make sure in the junkyard the window you are getting it from is same exact regular cab like the truck on this vid if yours is like that. the window has to come from exact model.if not door window is too big.

I have a 2005 f150 4.2L. I've looked everywhere for an answer. Problem is that the gauge goes to hot after 20 minutes of driving. It does not actually over heat. Changed cylinder head temperature sensor, thermostat, instrument cluster. Has no leaks no air in coolant system. I'm not sure if this model has a coolant temperature sensor.
