  • The "bi-cycle" is a confusing element of the bisexual experience. Am I gay this week? Straight the next? Am I asexual now? Allow me to shed a little light on the situation.

As a bi person I go through these circles a lot and yet I never ever questioned my identity. But now I'm proud to throw away society's weird ass norms just by being horny

Yep, for me the Bi-cycle has caused internalized Biphobia. I find that looking for Bi-positivity pages has really helped combat that, especially at a time when we’re all so isolated.

"I Want To Ride My Bicycle" by Queen is the official anthem for bisexuals now. It's canon.

I needed this. I'm female in a relationship with a man but I keep going through big GIRLS GIELS GIRLS periods and I feel guilty, like I'm being wrong to my partner. I love him the same during this time etc I just don't find men very appetising

Honestly, as a bi girl, with all the comp-het craze in the wlw community, is getting even more difficult to stop questioning your sexuality (I do think its super interesting, real and usefull, but it triggers my internal biphobia and insecurities)

For me, this manifests as a huge impostor syndrome. "I'm more attracted to men today. Does that mean I've been pretending to be bisexual all this time? What's wrong with me to want to feel included in a widely discriminated (in my area) community when I could just be straight?" "I'm more into women today. Does this mean my previous attraction to men was a fluke? And what would happen if I engage in a same-sex relationship and am forced to come out to my family?" "I can hardly find anyone in my real life social circles attractive. Does that make me asexual? But that label doesn't fit me, I WANT to eventually get in a non-platonic relationship." It's comforting in a way to learn that I'm not alone in this experience.

Going through the Bi-cycle in the late 60's was hell because the concept of BI wasn't in my vocabulary. Every day it was "I'm Gay", "I'm Straight", "I'm Gay", "I'm Straight". It was exhausting. I eventually just stopped being straight and didn't worry about being gay. When I finally heard about Bi, Pan, and the Bi-cycle, I was ticked off that no one told me before. Now I default to Queer because BI is only one aspect of my non-conformance, and everyone is queer in one way or the other.

having "asexual" included in this cycle really opened my eyes. as a teen, asexual was the identity I originally identified with and sort of experimented with (athough I did not really "come out" at that point yet). it's been quite difficult to label my bisexuality with that thought in mind, of whether I am truly "sexual" enough. you wonderfully put these general experiences into words.

I thought I was just weird when I realized that my sexuality was weirdly inconsistent. Always changing one way or the other. Until I started talking to other bi people who all confirmed the exact same experience: being bi doesnt mean you stay 50/50 for either sex. Instead it means your sexuality is just all over the place

For me the bi-cycle is like being a baby who hasn't developed object permanence memory yet. I see an attractive man and I'm like omg... am I a straight(tm)? Then literally a few hours later I see an attractive woman and I'm like omg... am I a lesbian(tm)? It's like I'm being attracted to a human for the first time each time lmao. When you say you define your sexuality by looking at it throughout the time, that's exactly what I do too! Otherwise my dumb brain would have no idea. The internalized biphobia is real.
