High waist pants were nowhere to be found for so many years, we poor short legs women suffered! Thank heavens they are back.
I have long legs, but I have a short waist, so I prefer low-waisted pants and skirts!🤣
@@vetsai8199me too 😊
Loved chatting to you Clare. Thank you for having me!
Enjoyed every minute of it - and I just love your hourglass approach. It’s brilliant. Thanks for giving up your time to talk to me ❤️
Love your channel.
I love your channel.
I love Both your channels, great information from both of you ladies ❤
Big fan of Melissa, she really knows her stuff and I have learnt so much from watching her channel.
I also love that she employs ladies of all shapes and sizes and not just those with perfect figures so she practices what she preaches.
I got my styling mojo back from watching Melissa’s channel after a few years of covering up the menopausal belly dressing…she’s the best ❤
I love Melissa's style and clever styling tricks, I turned 60 and started dressing frumpy, then realised I didn't have to 'be old' so I went through my robe and got rid of a heap of stuff and took all her advice on getting stuff that suits my body and my current needs.
Mellissa’s channel is really useful. I have got so many pointers from her. I like thinking about the colours that suit you. Getting neutral colours that will match absolutely everything else. So when you’re shopping you know what colours to go for. looking at more styles to try has been great. I do agree that her hourglass reshaping is a game changer.
Oh my gosh! I was yelling at the screen saying yes this is me! Newly retired, changing body, waiting to buy clothes til I drop the weight, and holding on to things in case the "come back". This was very helpful!
Pleased to hear it!
Do you know, I had a huge clear out, and then I did loose weight!! But now I'm buying stuff that suits me and is nice and fresh. I've ended up going completely through my wardrobe, Doesn't fit=out
Not right colour=out
Couldn't see myself wearing it, didn't wear it, went with nothing in my robe anymore=out
Just bought it on sale but have never worn it=out
My wardrobe was almost empty and I tried to remember all her tips and bough stuff to go with what I had kept...and set it all up in seasons, events, colours, so now I just go to the section and pull it out. I find I wear everything and enjoy wearing clothes again, instead of looking in my wardrobe and saying I have nothing to wear, or dreading going out, because nothing was suitable. I wish I had done it when I was young.
I never agreed that “black goes with everything” or that it’s “universally flattering”, but Melissa is the first stylist I’ve come across who thinks so, too. Black kills any color it’s next to, doesn’t look good on the vast majority of people, and is, I think, a bit of a copout for many wardrobes. After all, we wear black for funerals, it’s not a happy color. One problem is that nearly every garment or accessory for sale comes in only black and one trendy color, at least here in the US. For some reason, the fashion powers-that-be here never think we will buy light colors. I see this all the time, like when Zara offered some cream trousers I really wanted, but not on their US website, only the Euro ones. We got: yep, black.
So true. Navy is way more flattering especially as we age.
It’s true, black is the only color offered in most items, especially in quality items. It does feel funeral .
I’ve watched melisssa from the start she just gets better x
This was a wonderful interview. I’ve been following Melissa for awhile now, but to see and hear her on a more relaxed casual basis, was a delight. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. She's so easy to talk to!
I watch Melissa's channel as well. She had good tips.
This is a good interview w/ thoughtful questions for Melissa regarding her work. As she has shown here in this video, she really understands her craft well. Melissa not only discussed dressing the various body shapes, but demonstrated essential techniques that are helpful to women as they dress themselves to feel confident & comfortable in their clothing.
❤❤ Melissa and have happily followed her advice. She’s incredible. Every body shape benefits from her advice.
100%
Love all the tips to “put the lady back in the hourglass shape”. I would add good bra that is adjusted properly: I fit women all day for post- mastectomy issues and also women just needing a proper sizing and fitting. They are always amazed how small their middle looks when their bust is in the proper location (hint: it’s well above the belly 😉)
Something I've been getting much more into are the colors that suit me! Going through two pregnancies, a pandemic and a neck injury as well as walking on a fractured foot for an entire summer (I know it's as ridiculous as it sounds), trying to suit my shape has been very difficult. I'm not at the size that I'm comfortable being at but what makes it worse is feeling like my clothes doesn't fit me well. Now that I'm understanding more about what suits me at this point in my life, I've really noticed how some colors really make me shine. I'm a very cool toned. Complexion and it's something I never understood about myself until recently. I used to shy away from colors because they never looked right on me. They always made me. Now I know that I have to get the right tone and I actually look really lovely and very rich colors. Curating a wardrobe of basic staples to tie anything together was more about my shape and now I'm thinking more about my color for more exciting pieces in my wardrobe that speak to me and really show my personality. Oftentimes I'm spending most of the day outside with my children or in the garden and if we go out somewhere I need to be in functional clothes but I still like to look nice. That's what's brought me to this video. I'm trying to figure out some additional advice that maybe I haven't come across. If I find my colors and my basics that fit my body shape, all of the workers already done for me. So the stress of getting dressed every day is not there anymore.
I know exactly what you mean. Even when I'm just on my own in the house it's nice to feel good about I'm wearing and the colors are so important. Hope you found the interview helpful.
Melissa Murrell explained creating the hour glass figure out of other shaped bodies, better than any other similar videos I've seen.
Great video, good combination of the two of you. It’s so nice to hear honest opinions that makes us women of a certain age not feel different. Thank you ❤
Thank you Susan! I'm so glad you enjoyed this.
I love Melissa Murrell, great interview. I watch her regularly and learned additional things listening to your interview. Both of your RUclips channels are valuable to me. Thank you
Great to hear this - thank you.
Melissa is awesome, I follow her channel. Her videos on various body types is great, its really made me dress completely different. All of her associates & team members are great!
Love, Love, Love, LOVE! Melissa , I have learned so much from her, I am always getting compliments on how I dress! You are amazing
Thank you for your interview with Melissa! I came upon this vlog looking for something else. I’m so pleased I did, you asked questions I’ve been wondering about for ages. 💐
I absolutely love Melissa’s channel. She is great!
Melissa is the best 😊
Totally love her philosophy of style
Love Melissa, she makes so much sense. Great interview.
I love Melissa! I watch her all the time!!
Love Melissa and her channel. Truly inspirational😁 Just did a big clear out myself!
I’m beginning to get my wardrobe sorted I have watched a lot of videos on body type colours etc and have a better idea of what suits me now. This video was also very helpful 😊
Glad to hear it!
I have decided to stick to jeans that fit well and not worry about trends, then because I love to thrift I’ll pair them with a fun vintage sweatshirt that makes a statement (classic and preppy) This way when I’m working from home I’m comfortable! Then when I’m really looking for cozy on a Sunday I pair an oversized cashmere with a tank top and leggings (I’m 58)
It was lovely to see Melissa chatting with you and reiterate her mantra of getting the body into an hour glass shape. And, I've just found your channel 😊
I love Melissa’s channel
I have been watching Melissa for some time now and i love her advice and clothes..
She’s great!
Loved this interview. I've been following Melissa now for a few weeks and soaking up all her videos. As I'm retired, I only go out to lunch and morning teas occassionally. I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I've been quite selective in the new clothes I'm buying. Thanks all.
Amazing to have just found your channel Claire & for Melissa -who I’ve watched since the beginning of the pandemic- to appear! Great collaboration.
Such an excellent and eye opening video! Thank you!
You both are such a breath of fresh air, thank you and by the way you both are drop dead gorgeous!
Thank you so much! That's very kind of you to say.
I enjoyed all the content - very helpful to hear the common sense approach to purchasing clothing that fits your lifestyle (!) as well as your body, instead of chasing all the current (and ever-changing) trends. I also liked that you included everyday women to model the concepts you were discussing. What I most appreciated about this video, however, was the fact that two women (who I imagine may be "competitors" for RUclips subscribers?) modeled a healthy, genuine relationship - very refreshing and commendable! "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together" Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Aww, I really appreciate your supportive message. Thank you!
I have had a consultation with Melissa and it was brilliant
Melissa is brilliant! She has helped and inspired me and now I have several capsuls, gardening, dog walking, training, in the cabin and in the appartment. She started me on this journey and I just love my capsuls & how good I feel! It makes life so much easier and more fun! Such a good interview! ❤
so much sensible information thank you
Very informative interview ❤❤thank you..beautiful ladies
Really enjoyed this, Clare x😍I love clothes and fashion and i have a good wardrobe clear out every so often.
Perfectly timed video! So very helpful.
Really glad you found this helpful!
❤❤ Love love love Melissa..♥️♥️
I loved this! I have watched her many times and she has wonderful tips. So good to 'think about' what we wear instead of what is so easy. Love your show and such great tips today and always! Cheers!
🥰
Great video and topic Clare! I am definitely in a style rut
This was a hoot! I've ben watching Melissa for a while too so what a lovely surprise to see her on your channel 👍
Super practical help for anyone looking to spruce up their wardrobe 👏
She's great, isn't she!
Melissa is wonderful, I love her channel.
Well done, Claire. I stumbled upon your video while working late into the night baking for a party tomorrow. i was riveted by the seriousness of your questions and your commitment to finding realistic solutions.
Thank you Betty!
Interesting video! After looking into this for the past number of years, my take is that knowing your colour palette from a 12 season system (not 16, that's too many and it loses accuracy), and knowing your body type, (I support the Kibbe system although his examples are dated, but the principles as a guide make sense to me), are the most important pieces of information to understand well. Then translating that into one's lifestyle - and adding some personal preferences, and boom. You are done! Shopping and dressing is so much easierI like some of the advice here, but with one warning. Not every woman looks right being encouraged to look more hourglass. I do like the notion of owning your "type" and dressing to be in harmony with that type. Not everyone suits geometrics, some women look amazing in stripes, some suit billowy florals, some don't, etc. And forget celebrities. Honestly, normal average women who dress well are so much more inspiring. And within a budget!!! ♥ to you all....
thanks for this
Thanks to Melissa sharing I found your channel ❤
Welcome! So glad you found me.
Terrific interview! I’m going to be looking hard at my wardrobe now.😊
this was a great video!
That was great! Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this 😊
Great to hear! ❤️
Love this! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Just loved this chat!
Excellent!
i have so many pants that are a bit too small... got some handmedowns from my sister... size larger that i have... but i get so many compliments!
I love your new purchase. LOve to see you styling. I have somewhat the same color hair and skin as you.xo
Oh thank you! Style is a bit of a detour for me but I enjoy it so I might sneak a little more onto the channel x
I have watched Melissa previously but she was so much easier to listen to in conversation with you. Thank you. I think it was more generalised advice that I can use here in Australia. So many ideas from the Northern Hemisphere just don't work for the temperature and humidity that I live with even though they look great. 😉
There’s quite the weather gap at this time of year that’s for sure! I’ve just been running in the rain 😁
I love Melissa❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I love Melissa and I hope you can have her on again. Thank you, from NYC
I usually wait until nearly the end of videos whether I will subscribe, but within two minutes of watching this I subscribed because the lady was making so much sense from the start.🇦🇺❤
Lovely to have you as a new subscriber - and thank you.
Hi Clare! I don't know how I stumbled across your channel but I've subscribed! I am already subscribed to MMpersonalstyling, and have been so motivated to elevate my wardrobe from her tips. I still struggle with tucking in but I know I'm not alone! Fortunately I have really long legs! It's really fun to go through your wardrobe and discard items that you no longer wear. I donated most! And it feels so good!
Great to have you as a subscriber Paula!
Wow, that was very enlightening and just what I was looking for thank you very much. A real help and inspiration. I have not come across anybody speaking so honestly and still encouraging about fashion, body shapes and aging in a really good humouros way thank you so much 😊
🥰
Love the clothes you chose to purchase!!!!
I really enjoyed this interview, it felt like a chat between friends!
Melissa is a joy. We could have chatted all evening! ❤️
Great video. We dont need a ton of clothes to look and feel great. Pick out a few outfits and wear them over and over. I wear the same 3 sheath dresses over and over. Im good with very few pieces and neutrals though.
I love that gray shirt!!
Good one
Just found this video by chance and so glad I did. Loved the interview and Melissa was lovely - not at all preach-y, which can be the case. I have had my colours ‘done’ but it is hard to find ‘light, bright spring’ colours in the depths of winter. Now need to up my style game. I make a lot of clothes and tend to go with what I love sewing rather than what I should be sewing for my style. So subscribed to your channel and now over to Melissa’s. Thank you
Glad you found this helpful and delighted to hear you've subscribed to both channels. Thank you!
Great content I already subscribe to Melissa she is GREAT! New subscriber to you! Loved the conversation between you two. xo from CA U.S.A.
Welcome and thank you for subscribing!
Hm, so tell me about "broadening" my already full-figured, barely-over-5ft frame - so I don't turn into Mrs. 5ftSquare!! A lot of advice for fuller figures is fine if you're tall, but not if you're short...
In the US, we say the flabby arms are “bat wings.” I couldn’t tell if that’s what was being said. I heard “bingo wings.” ???
You heard right. We say bingo wings over here : )
Yesss. That’s what I’ve been saying to the screen.
My biggest issue is finding what I want when I shop. I know exactly what I want and need. I work hard to be able to afford it, but so often my bubble is burst when I shop! I’ve spent so much looking for the perfect sexy but comfortable shoes and the perfect white tee. I’m still looking!
I hear you!
Have you considered buying men's t-shirts?
At 65YO, I have been overweight for 10 yrs now. I used to be a real hourglass in my youth and now, a real apple shape so I stopped caring about what to wear bc I would still "look like a drum" anyway. I felt terribly conscious when out in public, especially in this nice neighborhood we live in. Then 3 yrs ago, I started watching all these RUclips stylists and learned a good deal about how to dress w style and class. I have just started eating healthy again w the onset of my organic garden, and dressing for my body type has become easier since I replaced all my crappy wardrobe w more classic, neutral ones. I am still overweight but changing the way I dress has contributed to my contentment and well-being. My motto is to feel happy and stylish now, not when I have lost the weight. If I died tomorrow without feeling good about how I look now, it would have been such a pity!
Such a great attitude ❤️
Great conclusion!
This was a very informative video as are so many in your channel.
I am wondering if you’ve thought of doing a styling session with Melissa, and filming it for all of us to become even more inspired to clear out the clothes that no longer serve us and style ourselves.
Than you 😊🙏🏼🌸
Glad you enjoyed the video. I'd love to do something again with Melissa down the line if we can ideally be in the same place. I'll do my best to make it happen : )
Love Love Love this! You could have titled it, "Monica, what should you do to address your problem areas!" 😂 Thank you. ❤
So glad you found it helpful Monica!
Love that new pink sweater on you.
Thank you! It cheers me up on grey days.
I allocate a shelf for clothes that don’t fit and I also put clothes that I’m not wearing for 2-3 months - when the season is over I go through them
Thank you Ladies! 👏 In the US we call them "bat wings" as well. I've lost a considerable amount of weight. I accept it and am thankful for my health...having said that, I'll continue camouflaging my bat wings. 😉 Looking forward to the new year and utilizing your brilliant tips!!! 💖
Aha! Now I remember 'bat wings'. I knew it was something a little different. Glad you found Melissa's tips helpful and so glad to hear you're well and healthy!
My kids call them Grammy Arms🥰 They want me to have them for the grandkids to enjoy😂 ( it was an endearment with their dad’s mom!)
Fantastic video. I don't watch many videos that focus on style. Those that I've seen often have some good suggestions but on the whole aren't all that useful to people with typical aging body types, even the videos that are supposed to be for older women. Ms. Murrell was right on point throughout. I loved the Sponge Bob comparison.
I would add that watching your posture helps and doesn't cost any money.
By the way, I thought you looked fine in what you were wearing at the start of the video.
Thank you 🥰
Now to plan shoulder pads and top not tucked in. Big boobs, very short body and long legs.
Thank you ladies!
Previously working in the city for our Federal Government. NOW ...
I'm retired to a southern Australian seaside town. So the suits and heels went out but now I have the time but not the income to purchase well made clothing that fit and suit my middle-aged short body and my retired lifestyle. I don’t want to be a frumpy old lady. I find semi- tailored and semi-casual styles suit me best. So! I've gone back to a hobby I love - sewing. It isnt inexpensive to sew especially when one wants quality garments, but we don't need a stuffed cupboard. Comfort and style can be attained together. I'm knitting again too. I'm keeping a simple and flattering hair style that's easy to achieve daily. Covid time was when Government Health advised us "If you do nothing else each day, get up, make your bed and get dressed". When retired and/or stuck at home, it's easy to forget your own worth. I like to firstly look after me in the morning, then I tend to have a good day, but prepared for almost anything 😂❤😂❤😂
Love your attitude Eunice!
I like the shirt you ended with so much better than the one you started with. :)
Thank you! Around 5 minutes into the conversation with Melissa I started to really regret my clothing choice!! I guess that's what happens when you talk to a personal stylist.
@@thehonestchannel it was a great interview! I learned so much.
Great and informative. I live in the southern USA and we call them "bat wings". Only 3/4" length sleeves works for me.
What about an inverted triangle with an apple?
Melisa needs to visit Meg Markle !
I need help with a capsule waredrobe
Ralph Lauren makes nice thinner long-sleeved t-shirts.
Great advice but I have a short body and long legs so guess I reverse the short leg ?!
Yes, we Americans say “Bingo Wings”. Unfortunately, that underarm flabbiness and wrinkling is caused by age-related loss of collagen. I’m a good weight, but still have that. If it’s really hot, I wear sleeveless items anyway.
Thanks for confirming. I hear you re the cause. I notice this as I age even though I've started lifting weights.
Batwings
I have large legs all the way down,so how do I look slimmer in a skirt? I'm 5'4".
im excited to watch this... but i hope it isn't all for size 6 girls!
It's not, but I'm wondering if the thumbnail makes it look like that. Hmm. Hope you found it helpful!
Give Melissa's channel a watch-- you'll see that she styles the everyday woman utilizing women of various body shapes, ages & sizes (6, 8, 18, 16, 20, etc). She has numerous videos on yt. Best to you!
Hi Clare I love Melissa..she is amazing. I love the end , because I did exactly what you did. I had sooo many clothes , but got rid of five bags of stuff . Now, I only buy things that flatter my body ( thank you Melissa..I now know whst does ) and I can get dressed faster and better. I love ypur sweater. Melissa has a Clare with her a lot...but thats not you..right?
Decluttering has made such a difference. My husband has done the same thing. I’m not the Clare in Melissa’s videos. They’re a lovely team though.
@@thehonestchannel You are certainly lovely too..
I now own several pair of Old Navy 360 Extra High Waisted jeans. I bought a few grey ones during Black Friday and recently some blue ones during 40 %off sale online. I have thin legs so I can wear a size 12 and still have enough room for a large abdomen. A few days ago I tried on an old pair of jeans that don't stretch and realized I no longer want to wear any other kind of jeans. 360 have just the right amount of give. Shop online for the best selection and great sales. They also have leggings that are mostly cotton. In winter I use them as long underwear. And some have pockets big enough to fit a cell phone. I wish I could find sweatpants that are pretty, all cotton and have big pockets, as well as affordable. I prefer without a ribbed bottom cuff. Anyone have any suggestions?
Be interested to see sweatpants suggestions too. I’ve never found a pair I really like.
We call them bat wings in the US or at least where I come from. West Virginia.😉
Thanks Kathy! 👍
I had curated a beautiful wardrobe for my life as a singer and artist, only to go through menopause 😮…. I had to give all the size medium away and start completely over,……. only now the challenge is finding more classy tops for my age but very large bust….. tailored clothing is best for curvy girls but so hard to find…. Ugh
Hope this video was helpful Helen!
Have you dealt with the issue that we need hormone replacement after menopause? Don't give up yet.
Want to see your closet all not just what you think we should see. I just hate when people under 55 saying that they are old. Laugh out loud Old is 75 and over for sure.
