I learned about Lee Miller in my first year of college in one of my photography courses. I always thought her life was so interesting and that it would be great if there was a movie about it. 6 years later and now there is, and Kate Winslet is bringing her story to life. Amazing!
There are simply too many untold stories, too may forgotten people. Too many times I thought "What about this person, that event? If only Spielberg. Eastwood, or Ron Howard knew."
This is the kind of history movies we need to see today!! It was unheard of to be able to get a camera to see the horrors of war back then. Look at the world today!!! Nobody bats an eye. Bravo to Kate Winslet for releasing this at a time ppl need to open their eyes

I had the pleasure of helping with conservation and costume mounting of some of Lee Miller’s clothing from her estate (including a military jacket from this time period!), absolutely fascinating and wonderful woman!
Kate I don't know whether you will see this but just watched LEE. So sad, evocative , true to historical fact. Wonderfully and sympatheticaly acted. You captured the reality of the awful holocaust and all of the dreadful abuse that went on. Thank you. God bless you. It needs to be forever etched in the minds of all generations and hopefully never repeated again.
I cannot imagine how hard it must of been to have to channel such a tragic traumatic time in history. I really admire her strength and dedication to acting and giving life to stories that must be shared in order for them not to have happen again.
I'll never forget seeing her recite a Shakespeare sonnet in Sense and Sensibility when I was a young child. It was so beautiful it's stayed with me since.
I see echoes of the past in our current times and these stories are essential in letting us know that we have to stop things before they get to that point where humanity is no longer valued. Thank you for sharing this.

@@tonyastone6866 there are books that are collections of her war correspondence and photography - anything by Antony Penrose (her son) is incredibly moving - and for a general sense of it all, you can read the fictional novel Sweet Caress by William Boyd which sort of embodies the life of Lee Miller, Martha Gelhorn, Virginia Hall and that amazing, accidental cadre of wartime women 'warriors'.

I love the story Kate told when interviewed by Stephen Colbert about how she bought the actual dining room table from an auction that belonged to Lee. She sat there at the table when she got it home and thought: Why has no one made a film about Lee Miller!? Brilliant.
Eh, it'll come out on streaming platforms and that's when I'll watch it. I'm not going to pay a fortune to sit in a sticky uncomfortable seat to watch a movie when I can enjoy the movie at home in my clean comfy recliner with my choice of snacks. I can even pause it if I have to use the restroom. No one in my home will rudely whisper or use their phones or let their kids scream during the movie.

This might sound crass, but I watched Any Samberg on Finding Your Roots where he talked about only wanting to do a show about uncovering his family history to fulfill his mother's lifelong dream of finding out where she's from. He showed such a deep, calm humanity, it was the first time I'd seen him not joke around for an extended period of time, and I immediately wanted to see him in a dramatic role. There was something deeply earnest about him that was incredibly magnetic.
I have loved Kate since the 90s, and she is my favorite actress. Everything she has ever done has been amazing, and she will be a stunning depiction of Lee Miller. I can't wait.
I love the throwaway line about Hitler - "Surely they can see what he is". He was dismissed as well as some politicians today as being too crass and obvious, and the expectations were that the majority would surely never support him... This looks like an excellent film.

My partner and I got to interview Lee's granddaughter recently for a documentary video highlighting a new photo exhibition of her work, on now at The Image Centre in Toronto! Her granddaughter was lovely and spoke so eloquently of Lee (she was also funny and sassy in a lovely British way!) This film looks very powerful. I hope I have the chance to see it and that it goes to more theatres.

This is one of the best journalism films I’ve ever seen. It brilliantly captures both the reporter’s compulsion to chase stories that matter, and the sometimes devastating consequences of doing so. It also takes a profoundly female lens to the depiction of war without getting clunky or preachy. Incredible film.
I’ve always loved Kate Winslet she’s an exceptionally great actress I’ve seen every one of her movies and I really don’t know what it is but there’s something special something tangible that makes her extraordinary …this movie looks like one that’s going to make people really appreciate her acting abilities and talent I can’t wait to see it!
I've just finished watching Lee, and that was the performance of a lifetime by Kate Winslet, just perfect, an Oscar simply isn't enough. The story is riveting enough, and the cast is outstanding in all respects. When they get it right they really do get it right. Thoughts to Lee Miller, sadly she died the same year as my father, both much too young, but I suspect the war had it's victims long after 1945.
I just saw this film, and Kate surely deserves an Oscar. Also, the manner in which the “hard to watch” scenes are filmed enables one to see what Lee saw - brilliant.
Give me more complex middle-aged women characters! It feels so satisfying to see this. It made me think of the Marie Colvin movie which was an excellent performance from Rosamund Pike. I am so glad I got to witness this progression in media. I remember before when women characters were only plot fillers or props for men.

Watched it today. Well done, definitely an Oscar-worthy movie, especially for the screenwriters and Kate. Like Lee’s photos, the movie truly captures people caught in the tragedy of war. The death camp scenes are difficult but necessary. It’s one of those movies that stays with you, as you know it really happened.
This is going to be a masterpiece. And a reminder, people in different parts of the world have forgotten the lessons of 1939-1945. But those who don’t want to see or think won’t probably notice anyway.
The way that Kate Winslet has been shut out of the Oscars this year because she equated the Holocaust to genocide in Gaza is so shattering. Such an incredibly strong and brave performance, along with Kate's own values and truth.

This looks an incredible and very powerful film about someone who captured a time that was a stain on the history of Humanity, such unspeakable cruelty and evil that took place, and she caught it all on camera. I must see this film on release.
the ending of this movie twisted my insides out and I cannot get enough of this! This is by far Kate Winslet's BEST performance of her career. Absolutely captivating and one for the awards!
@@tonyastone6866 Tom Hanks was a comedian for years before he became a dramatic actor. Andy Samberg is a comedian in one of his first dramatic roles. Most comedians are tortured souls anyway so the transition comes naturally.

No one could play the role better than Kate.
Such.. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE!! I'm amazed on how it was done.
This looks an incredible and very powerful film about someone who captured a time that was a stain on the history of Humanity, such unspeakable cruelty and evil that took place, and she caught it all on camera. I must see this film on release.

the ending of this movie twisted my insides out and I cannot get enough of this! This is by far Kate Winslet's BEST performance of her career. Absolutely captivating and one for the awards!

@@tonyastone6866 Tom Hanks was a comedian for years before he became a dramatic actor. Andy Samberg is a comedian in one of his first dramatic roles. Most comedians are tortured souls anyway so the transition comes naturally.
He might be great. I always preferred Robin Williams in dramatic roles too.
Comedic actors are successful in dramas WAY more often than the other way around.

I saw the film yesterday and its i really liked It because of Kate Winslet and the soundtrack of Alexandre Desplat. Kate show the perspective of being an artist That See the things différently than most people .
Somewhere Ricky Gervais is saying it again. “Winslet, do a movie about the holocaust, the awards will come, told ya.”
If that is her only motivation in making this film, shame on her.
