what does someone like Nicola, the daughter of a billionaire, privileged since birth, know about a life like that? I will watch it but I just wonder...
It's called acting. If everyone that acts in a movie had to live a life like their character, there wouldn't be any movies. Actors play all kinds of parts that they've never lived. How could there ever be any sci fi if only real aliens had to be cast?
People will say it's fiction, it's acting, but your critique is valid. Similar with Emerald Fennell's film Saltburn that came out in 2023. These stories only get made with money, and it's fascinating to me when the stories are usually 'cosplaying' wealth and class struggles that people in their position of privilege could NEVER understand. Nicola Peltz is not some regular industry nepo baby, she is literally the daughter of an octogenarian billionaire and his model wife. She would have to do some insane research and empathy to create a valuable story like this when you imagine what her childhood must have been like. Again, we haven't seen the movie, but it's the valid critique on the state of how movies are able to get made, what stories get told, and who has the privilege to tell them.

So...I'm a little apprehensive. I don't believe that writers necesarily have to write about/can only write well about subject matter related to their experiences or life, but Nicola Peltz's father is a freakin billionare, like she did not grow up in a financially unstable or broken family whatsoever. She comes from the richest of the rich, a world of socialites and Wall Street. I don't believe she, in the slightest, can ever fathom what it means to grow up in the America that she is trying to portray. I think this is gonna end up being more fetishistic/make being poor into an aesthetic then like, good.
She has Instagram Face her billionaire daddy bought her playing someone who can't afford plastic surgery in a film her daddy bought her to write and direct. I just don't buy this character from someone with such a perfect Hollywood face.
It's definitely an eye roller. Just expect the movie to be completely out of touch because the person who directed it doesn't really understand that type of life.
I have to say…I kept getting distracted because her face is so clearly augmented.. It looks exactly like the glam filter.. I don’t like seeing such extremes on film because it doesn’t look real. The fact that her character is poor and she looks like this, makes no sense

I did not realize the little brother was a little brother until the mother screamed that the makeup made him look like the "f slur." He wants to express himself in a way that he likes, but it is too much for a mother who is part of the church, so much so that she could use it as a kind of scapegoat. (Edit: I have not seen the movie, this is just from the trailer that I had just seen.)
Guess I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed it. My wife and I are both trans women who went through a lot of abuse from our parents, siblings, and kids at school, for just trying to exist, for the things we cant help nor choose. I haven't really seen a movie catch this so accurately. In addition, it showed the life of a woman who was just trying to survive for her trans little brother, (sister, if they were allowed to be themselves, or had lived long enough to get away from their mother) while also trying to battle with the life of a being a dancer (& the exploitation and at times sw involved), the poverty & her addiction, and the lines they force us cross. You dont have to go through the real experiences to ACT. Whether you're affluent or not, we've all been though shit. Otherwise, yeah, the trailer spoils a lot. But regardless, worth the watch.

Yes, i agree, but Nicola is actually not a nepo baby if you look at what the definition of a nepo baby is. It's only if they are in the same field of work as the parent(s). Her father is not a movie producer or director. He has made his fortune as an canny investor, starting out with vending machines, and progressing through other goods. She is the daughter of a businessman and a model. She had the courage to do this, to write, direct and star in this film because yes, she does have the money to do it, but she also would not have attempted it without having the wherewithal to know if she would "make the grade" , and as an actor she would not have got this role otherwise because her beauty is extreme, and envy from other people "you don't deserve this" would have happened even if she did do the best audition. She knew how she wanted to do it. She has done it. People will spit tacks even if it's fantastic due to envy of her background. One thing to bear in mind is that she really must love the arts to enter them, knowing that so many detractors will come out of the woodwork. I am female by the way, and much older than she is, but I've been in the arts for decades professionally, and the people dissing this trailer are just envious. 90% of people don't plan to have kids. You probably weren't planned either. So its out of their hands. But as soon as the child is born you with all your flaws is all they have for now. You can't change or cover urself up. That is now going to be ur child's first exposure. As adults we look back and actually realize that shit makes us wiser and strong. My parents flaws and mistakes when i look back was their life and where they came from. Today I'm a new mother (planned) and who and whatever i am will be my baby's exposure. For now its all he has. If anything i wana be me more. Messed up me. Crazy me. And just accepting who i am me. My flaws dont break me. But then again. Once you know the 'secret to life' the world kinda becomes light. Like nothing is heavy. Your parents. Your parenting. Your job. Your marraige. It all becomes light. God is the my secret
what does someone like Nicola, the daughter of a billionaire, privileged since birth, know about a life like that? I will watch it but I just wonder...
It's almost seems a bit like cosplaying poverty for fun. And getting a salary from it
It's called acting. If everyone that acts in a movie had to live a life like their character, there wouldn't be any movies. Actors play all kinds of parts that they've never lived. How could there ever be any sci fi if only real aliens had to be cast?
So make your own fucking movie. You don’t have to be something to create a fictionalized version of things or make art. What an asinine question.
This might surprise you, but most movies are fictional.
Gimme me a break. This is a vanity project only.
100%
They must've told her that she will get a nomination by doing this genre

Every shot her makeup is perfect. Exactly like a poor person.
The makeup in my opinion is too heavy and not natural looking
right! i think of girl interrupted whenever someone brings up how unconvincing lola was especially when it came to appearances. the reason why angelina jolie worked as lisa rowe was because she was willing to look like a "mess"- dead bleach blonde hair, dark circles, dull skin and eyes, etc. on-point makeup and lola pouting for the camera in every other scene makes it feel so unsubstantial and just not real at all.
Exactly. So totally off

Is there a Razzie award for "Movie Bankrolled by Daddy " because this will surely win 2024!
Maybe she was inspired to make a movie after seeing Sean Baker's movies like The Florida Project 😂
my first thought as well
I thought to myself “she must love the movie ‘The Florida Project’ 😂 I live in Orlando and it helped me understand my maternal cousins as mothers. I’ve always had sympathy for them but it expanded after watching. I could’ve grown up to be just like them had my mother not married into my dad’s wealthy family. Not sure why I wrote this 😂 but def looking forward to seeing Nicola cosplay what she thinks of as a normal person!!
💯
A lot of people thought it was good so 🤷♀️
She has Instagram Face her billionaire daddy bought her playing someone who can't afford plastic surgery in a film her daddy bought her to write and direct. I just don't buy this character from someone with such a perfect Hollywood face.
It's called acting. Is she the only rich person who is an actor?
It's definitely an eye roller. Just expect the movie to be completely out of touch because the person who directed it doesn't really understand that type of life.
So all rich people are beautiful and all poor people are hard to look at? Seriously? Such an ignorant statement. Talent is talent.
I have to say…I kept getting distracted because her face is so clearly augmented..

Yeah, Sofia Coppola is a nepo baby and she is one of the best cinema directors! Let’s give to Nicole an opportunity!
