      @esk8unity These are the same people who irreverently, sloppily use important words with very serious specific meanings as dirty pejoratives when locking horns with people whose politics they assume they both understand AND disagree with. It happened just before the Orange Man got into power and suddenly everybody was a fascist and phobic and everything else. Infuriating and disgraceful. Have these people actually seen how big a dictionary is, how many words are at their disposal if they just familiarised themselves with the old family thesaurus?! You can't call someone you dislike a Nazi, I mean jeeeeeesus christ.

      I feel like the majority of women nowadays are messed up because some mothers did messed up stuff in their past and they don’t lecture their daughters to not do what they did or have that heart to heart conversation. They take their anger out on their daughters when their daughters try to even enjoy life and that’s very toxic.

      All directors have money. Otherwise how are they going to finance a film and get it released in theaters. Do you want movies about poverty/struggle to end? Only movies/stories about the upper class are allowed now?
      It's interesting how no one has this complain about other movies surrounding low income people, but maybe it's because those movies were made by men and older women

      90% of people don't plan to have kids. You probably weren't planned either. So its out of their hands. But as soon as the child is born you with all your flaws is all they have for now. You can't change or cover urself up. That is now going to be ur child's first exposure. As adults we look back and actually realize that shit makes us wiser and strong. My parents flaws and mistakes when i look back was their life and where they came from. Today I'm a new mother (planned) and who and whatever i am will be my baby's exposure. For now its all he has. If anything i wana be me more. Messed up me. Crazy me. And just accepting who i am me. My flaws dont break me. But then again. Once you know the 'secret to life' the world kinda becomes light. Like nothing is heavy. Your parents. Your parenting. Your job. Your marraige. It all becomes light. God is the my secret

    Ugh this is tough, because it looks like it has the makings of a great story, but if Nicola really wants to be a respected "filmmaker", she should have stuck to directing and given the lead role to someone that can bring authenticity to role. Otherwise, it's hard to look past this as anything more of a vanity project in order to become a reputable and even more famous actress that just steals and takes advantage of the story of so many that are not lucky enough to be born into extreme wealth. She picked the wrong project.

      Thank you, I'm going to piggy back off this comment. I do not know who she is at all (but now I'm going to look her up) and yet in watching the trailer, I could absolutely feel that this girl playing this character could have no understanding of what that life would feel like...at all. It just didn't resonate. All I felt was very pretty and privileged person vibes. Not in a bad way,....but you just can't fake the funk.

      What would have been really cool is if she had done an independent film about opulence and growing up as a good person with all the privilege and power to be terrible person and get away with. She should write about what goes on in Billionaires row, and all the messed things that happens in her demographic. Thats not allowed though so its easier to exploit poor people's issues that she has no relations.

    • @LucidUpbringing
      @LucidUpbringing 2 years ago

      She comes off as a very very vain woman. She can't act to save her life, and she knows it so she uses her looks. It's gross. But if this makes her feel relevant, then more power to her. But it's going to be a very lonely slide down to the bottom of the box office list. I hope this is a pet project for her, kind of like a science experiment. Because none of this from the writing, to the directing, to the production to the acting is by her own merit. I agree that she should have chosen a different actress to play the role. Someone more down to earth. But again, she is a pick me, look at me girl.

      Female writer directors get trashed no matter what kind of work they make. If they make something that is representative of their own lives (like Lena Dunham became famous for doing - her first film was literally shot in her family's real apartment and starred her real family members as actors) they get trashed for that too. You can't win. Any of us who has actually put in the work to try to create something knows how much goes into it and it's not a matter of simply "cosplaying" as some of these comments are stating.

      right! i think of girl interrupted whenever someone brings up how unconvincing lola was especially when it came to appearances. the reason why angelina jolie worked as lisa rowe was because she was willing to look like a "mess"- dead bleach blonde hair, dark circles, dull skin and eyes, etc. on-point makeup and lola pouting for the camera in every other scene makes it feel so unsubstantial and just not real at all.

      It's called acting. If everyone that acts in a movie had to live a life like their character, there wouldn't be any movies. Actors play all kinds of parts that they've never lived. How could there ever be any sci fi if only real aliens had to be cast?

    • @user-vv9lr2rw5d
      @user-vv9lr2rw5d 2 years ago +259

      So make your own fucking movie. You don’t have to be something to create a fictionalized version of things or make art. What an asinine question.

    • @terrycullen3302

      This might surprise you, but most movies are fictional.

    • @waldo109
      @waldo109 2 years ago +267

      People will say it's fiction, it's acting, but your critique is valid. Similar with Emerald Fennell's film Saltburn that came out in 2023. These stories only get made with money, and it's fascinating to me when the stories are usually 'cosplaying' wealth and class struggles that people in their position of privilege could NEVER understand. Nicola Peltz is not some regular industry nepo baby, she is literally the daughter of an octogenarian billionaire and his model wife. She would have to do some insane research and empathy to create a valuable story like this when you imagine what her childhood must have been like.
      Again, we haven't seen the movie, but it's the valid critique on the state of how movies are able to get made, what stories get told, and who has the privilege to tell them.

  • @cattd00
    @cattd00 2 years ago +31

    So...I'm a little apprehensive. I don't believe that writers necesarily have to write about/can only write well about subject matter related to their experiences or life, but Nicola Peltz's father is a freakin billionare, like she did not grow up in a financially unstable or broken family whatsoever. She comes from the richest of the rich, a world of socialites and Wall Street. I don't believe she, in the slightest, can ever fathom what it means to grow up in the America that she is trying to portray. I think this is gonna end up being more fetishistic/make being poor into an aesthetic then like, good.
