    I had the incredible opportunity to watch this online at Sundance this year. Obviously will not spoil a thing. However, I just want to confirm how absolutely fantastic this movie is. I liked it so much I watched it twice, just to catch little things I hadn't before. The performances were breathtaking. The writing, sound design, set design, and cinematography fell nothing short of brilliant. It started this year off for me with bust of inspiration to change, grow, and better myself, and at the same time, live authentically. You see yourself in both characters. I can't explain it, but it's one of those movies you just need to sit with. Definitely the kind of movie you leave the theater either a) totally silent with contemplation or b) singing its praises in whispered gasps of "holy s**t" and "that was f***ing beautiful." I feel like I had both of these reactions. Go see it if you're able. You won't regret it.

      And having connotation
      Poland -> Holocaust
      would be simply unfair :)

      Polish Catholic citizens were not victims of the Nazi Holocaust who targeted only Jews. They were victims of Germans but not in the same way and not in the same proportion. And by the way, if some helped Jews, many more of them collaborate to the Holocaust. Poland is also the only country in Europe where Jews were killed after the liberation by Polish nationalists/anti-semites or the mob like in Kielce. See historians as Grabowski or Gross.

    As a Polish person temporarily living in London I would say this way: ethnic Poles were also victims of gas chambers and poor conditions in death camps (also Roma people and other "subhumans"). In the past it was very common to organise school tours to watch and get aware. People of my village were forced to go east barefoot to leave a living space for Germans (Lebensraum). So how did it get to normal after war? It had to, it's our home. However by the way we had Soviet attack and enforced communism. Also sometimes it's difficult to say 'we Poles, them Jews' because there were centuries of mixing. You can see declared ethic Poles with Middle East and slightly Central Asia appearance, sometimes it's not Jewish but Armenian or Tatar or another influence. Also here, in London, you can find districts inhabited by ortodox Jewish people with very Slavic appearance, very often blonde and blue eyed. Some people can't say that either their grandparents were victims either of Holocaust or anti-Slav genocide exclusively because someone's grandparents were victims of both. That real pain is being remembered, very often distorted in public media realm but people stayed there, also some ethnic Jewish who felt the same way Polish patriots. They had to go to normal. Lesson has to be taken but after that wounds can't be scratched anew. They had to heal and this what Poland is now: healing body with 1000 years old history and some scar tissues.

    Kieran Culkin has been getting rave reviews for this but he showed unusal talent even as a kid actor. I remember how natural and good he was in the beautiful Kenneth Lonergan film, You Can Count on Me, with Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney and Matthew Broderick. Pleased to see that his talent continued as an adult. Looking forward to this after reading the New York Times review. Jesse Eisenberg is so multi-talented.

    Jessie Eisenberg playing Jesse Eisenberg, what else is new?
    It's so silly how people love to hate Dwayne Johnson or Ryan Reynolds for always playing the same characters (i.e. a variation of themselves), yet somehow the same people will gladly overlook that aspect when it's an artsy-fartsy "performance".

    “This is a must-see film. Yes, it’s about the Holocaust, but it brings in surprising humor. I know, it sounds strange, but trust me-Jesse really pulls it off with depth and skill. At its core, the movie shows that even in the darkest times, there’s resilience and hope. It’s exciting to see how this film brings history to life with a fresh perspective. I can’t wait to experience this! ‘Honey, we’re going to see a Holocaust movie-but it’s actually funny.’”
