Brian Linehan waa an interviewer par excellence. He kept the camera on his guests 97% of the time, and he never tried to dominate the conversation or show how erudite he was. He did his research and respected his guests. In turn, they respected him. As for John Candy, he always came across as funny, self-deprecating, warm, and kind. He always, ALWAYS, promoted other actors, singers, directors, and producers, always thanked his fans, and he never gave the impression that he thought that he was better than anyone. Truly a nice person and a great talent, and it always seems that the great ones leave us too soon.
I am from Norway, and I recently bought all the John Candy movies that's going on Apple TV. This guy was our favorite actor in Norway in the early 1990s. He was like the Jackie Chan of Laughs
One of the few celebs, where despite never meeting him, that I feel sad he died so young. I feel like he was a kind guy. I wish he could have found a reason to fix his health. He brings a smile to me always. RIP John
I first remember seeing him in Splash, and things ballooned from there. Do you remember Brewster's Millions with Richard Pryor? That was huge. He was always funny, and sincere. It's hard to describe how I feel about John Candy. Respect to a very nice man, and someone who always made everyone laugh and smile.
Yes, I liked Brewsters Millions. Uncle Buck was great. Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin is probably my favourite. Watched that in a packed cinema, everyone laughing so much it hurt.
This is so wonderful to watch this tonight! I miss him so much. The pathos he brought to each character that he portrayed in all of his roles, whether funny, serious or anything else always hit me right in the heart. There was always an underlying compassion within him for the character he was taking on. He found that little bit within that role to bring a real persona to it that was understandable to those of us who are empathetic. There wasn't a movie that he was in where I didn't laugh or find tears in my eyes at some point. Often it could even be at the same time. That is the mark of a Great actor!!! He truly was The epitome of magnificence!!
Exactly when I was a kid I sensed there was something sad I don’t know if it was intentional but like a kid in a mans body grasping onto whatever he can to try and get through . Well said. It actually made me uncomfortable because no matter which film it was I felt sad even when it was meant to be funny I felt the pathos as you say, so keenly. I remember crying at parts and as a kid that made me want to avoid his films because there was something almost too real and touching
John Candy was such a dearly beloved man and actor, and Brian Linehan - what a fantastic and intelligent interviewer, one of the greats. Rest In Peace to both Legends.
John Candy died when I was 3. The first movie I saw him star in during the 90s was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. To this day, I wish he didn't have to go. His laughter sounds so humble and genuine. His wife, Rosemary, was lucky to have him in her life. I bet he was a down-to-earth hubby.
Before my time but my childhood I watched so many John candy movies all the time with my family . I still watch them to this day legendary actor ! Sad he gone seems a nice guy
Never missed a SCTV , couldn't wait. Nite Flight, Fridays, then Saturday Night. But he was the cream of the crop. Pure Genius, he made somber people chuckle. Amazing
Best man in the world, he’s who everyone wants as a father or an uncle. Everytime I’m feeling down or depressed I watch his movies, planes trains and automobile and uncle buck will always be my comfort movie.
Who can make your ribs break without hitting you ???? The candy Man can the candy Man can yes the candy Man can can can coz he mixes it with stuff that makes the world go round .Luv ya work mate r.i.p legend .
If there was ever an actor I would love to sit down in a pub and have a frosty one🍺 with … it would be the legend John Candy… the guy had charisma for days!!! R.I.P Mr Candy 😔💔
His birthday is October 31st, so we’re cancelling Halloween and creating Candy Day. You have to dress up as any of John’s movie characters. There are so many great ones. Who doesn’t want to see kids dress up as Uncle Buck?
Miss that man so much. Off the top of my head there are 4 people...actor/comedians that I wish I could bring back to share life with them on this planet. That is John candy, Chris Farley, Robin Williams and George carlin. Obviously if I didn't name someone you are close to, there was no offense intended. Those 4 people I miss...John candy especially.
Interesting answers from John at this point in his life. He passed on the original Ghostbusters due to money but obviously made the wrong choice, and yet he had nothing but good words to say about Rick Moranis' performance in the film. His thoughts on the book "Wired" aren't surprising because all the SCTV/SNL crew at the time of both shows were fiercely protective of each other. His criticism of Tri-Star were valid but at the same time he wasn't willing to admit he chose bad projects most of the time. His batting average was never that great.
Kind of crazy how you really don’t see big people in Hollywood anymore. Like, I mean really-I loved John Candy. Who didn’t? But the dude was pretty big. Like unhealthy big. Like, “wait, what?Homeboy has a wife and kids?” That kind of big. Like I’m sitting here eating a a Frosty from Wendy’s. I won’t ever get that big. The only reason I’d ever let myself get that big is if God told me it would make me never have to be married again. That would be worth it. No marriage, no kids-just glorious freedom. Freedom like America had when it fought for independence from England. The same freedom that spanish women feel when walking the beaches of Spain in nothing but their bikini bottoms. Freedom like Jesus felt when He finally escaped the vile clutches of the cross and ascended into Heaven, where nearly 2000 years later, He helped hoist John Candy’s full and heavy soul into the joys and loose morals of Paradise. God bless John Candy.
That is a rather rude comment. If you had looked up just who the interviewer is you would find out that he was likely suffering the effects of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma even at the time of this interview. Many people who have it can live for a few decades. Here is a link to the interviewers Wikipedia page. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Linehan
Candy says he should have been in Ghostbusters.. WTF is he talking about? He was offered a role in the movie.. the part Rick Moranis played. But he wanted to do it with a funny German accent and producers told him no thanks.. But why Lie and say you wish u were in a film you had been offered
i haven’t seen an interview with him, and this is not what i expected - this is a very negative cynical interview, it seems like he’s ready to be done with the industry and maybe life
Dude, he had already been thru the wringer. Calm down. All things considered, he was still very much composed, and straightforward. What, you wanted him to lie and be fake funny?
John Candy had the kind of genuine warmth and kindness that didn't seem affected at all by his fame and that made him even more lovable to his fans.
God love this guy rip big man from uk
You are missed Mr. Candy! I grew up on your movies and still re-watch them today. Rest In Peace my brother.
RIP John!! Gone but never forgotten!

A true giant of man in all senses of the word. RIP, Mr Candy. Thank you for your kindness and laughter you gave the world during your time in it.
The way he is as a person and how he's so humble, the world can learn so much from John Candy. How I miss him
Absolutely the most Charismatic big man on screen ever
To this very day I miss him. I watch all his movies over and over RIP my fellow Canadian.❤❤❤

I loved his films, it was so sad when he died so young.
Planes trains and automobiles is one of my favorite movies

What a wonderful man this was/is. Gentle, funny, intelligent. Such a loss.

Dear John Candy. One of my favourite top 3 comedians.
Insightful interview. Good to view and listen to John Candy be himself. Great actor. RIP
I always loved his movies.
John in ghosbusters!! That would have been good, really good.
❤
John was too nice
Never forget that being too nice isn't a bad thing, and the alternative would have you clutching for life.
I love this man its such a shame he passed so young
Never missed a SCTV , couldn't wait. Nite Flight, Fridays, then Saturday Night. But he was the cream of the crop. Pure Genius, he made somber people chuckle. Amazing

Thanks for the movies John ❤
Watched this 3 times
He just comes across a friendly bloke
Man he is really missed by so many 🙏🏻
John Candy was and is a living example of humanity.
We miss ya John 🙏 🥃
Just his laugh makes me laugh. He is missed & always will be.
I know he's not British but I always thought he'd have made a fantastic Hagrid in Harry Potter.
I was genuinely devestated when he died. Rip Wink

Spooky coincidence

A wonderful man, we really got ripped off when he passed away
Canadas Gem!! Miss ya John!!
"the only place where the milk raises!" lol probably not the ONLY place. nice to hear john candy's voice again.
Harry Crumb is one of my favorite John Candy movies!!!😊 Amazing how ignorant some people can be.
Goat.
I grew up with uncle buck, one of the few movies we had on VHS and used to watched it over and over again as a toddler, he was a sort of father for me
He'll always be Del Griffith for me!
I miss this dude
Planet earth was lucky to have had this man walk on its face.
❤❤
At the beginning of the interview, he probably thought of SCTV's Brock Linahan's "Stars In One".
Miss that man so much. Off the top of my head there are 4 people...actor/comedians that I wish I could bring back to share life with them on this planet. Same for me except the last one for me is John pinnet
John candy played in spaceballs as the dog Chewbacca and summer rentals great movies and great actor he was rest in peace john candy
It's so disheartening to hear him talk about "Who's Harry Crumb?". The whole ordeal must have been a blow to his confidence.
The day Mr. Candy passed away was the day laughter died.

Brilliant upload - good chemistry.
Sorry, but "Who's Harry Crumb" is a John Candy favorite of mine, my kids, and most of my friends.
Movie was so underappreciated I don't know why
That room looks terrifying
John Candy never spoke evil true dat ?
I can only watch for a few minutes because of the watermark slapped through the middle of the screen! Otherwise would be great to watch……..
The movie business was so much better back then
Well, maybe. They were lucky. Candy was alive when they had scripts...
It's better in Toronto for less crime, but the homeless are still bad.
"a thinktank for prisoners" hahahahaha
His can be a difficult interview; perceived slights can ruin an interview.
what do you mean?
What is this? A whispering competition? Was someone sleeping next door? 😂😂😂
