    I met Mr. John Candy in 1990. I was working at Honey Baked Ham at the time. He came in the store around Christmas time and bought some food. I asked him if he would like some help to his car with the food and he said yes. I got the chance to tell him that " You are a great actor, and your movies make me laugh, thank you." He thanked me and handed me $20.00. I wish I would of waved the tip, because just the chance to spend that little bit of time with him was more then enough. He seemed to me to be a very humble, quiet person. No ego trip. I miss him, he died way to young.

    Linehan was such a good Interviewer. Always did his research before an interview. You can tell the celebrities were always impressed with him and his knowledge of their history. This lent to phenomenal conversations that you would not get on the typical celebrity entertainment shows. It’s fantastic to watch these interviews now on RUclips. Thank you for uploading these. It’s greatly appreciated.

    I had a new girlfriend so I sat her down to watch as many John Candy movies as we could. By the time it was over she was the one trying to find the ones we didn't see in the marathon. One day I went to her house after school and she said she had something to tell me. When she told me that Candy had died all I could do was sit down. I didn't take it well, I'm still not completely over it. As I get older he doesn't age. He cannot be replaced.

    • @CarefulObserver1
      @CarefulObserver1 7 дней назад +1

      I recall the day John died, too. I also had to sit down. His early passing has always bothered me. A void in the entertainment world was left after his death. The world was a brighter, more enjoyable place with him in it.

    Terrific interview! John Candy was much more than a funnyman. And Linehan was a really great interviewer, did all his research, and left the camera on the subject ninety-five percent of the time. I'd rate him as good as Dick Cavett in that regard, but more low-key. Sadly, both persons shown in this video are now gone.

      Indeed, I loved both persons. No unnecessary crowd noise, loud background music, shouting names, show-off, grandstanding, arrogance. Just calm, informative, sincere, fun chat. And very satisfactory duration, 40 mins. Gave a lot insight about John Candy as a person. I was thinking why he doesn't have many interviews, then came across this.

      @@lloydchristmas4547 Long ago I skipped Brian Linehan too. But after Marty Short started to impersonate him as "Brock Linehan" on SCTV, I started to watch and appreciate his interviews a lot more. (There are many great ones here on YT). You're right in that his research was always deep and on point!

    I was riding my bike on my way to class on Illinois Av. in Carbondale Illinois, around 10am a few days before holloween in 1980 and who do I see, John Candy right in front of the Varsity Movie house. He was doing a thing about the Carbondale halloween stuff that used to happen back then at SIU, which was pertty wild those days, not so much any more I guess, after all that was 39 years ago. It aired on NBC later that year and it was called John Candy on the road or somthing like that. In those days most people did not know who he was so he had no problem moving around but I was a big SCTV fan. We talked for 5 minuts or so and he was REALLY COOL. I wish I had my camera with me and I wish I could find that NBC thing on U-tube. anybody have it

    I think it’s harder for women to find success in comedic roles because it requires an aggressiveness that traditionally was not seen in women - don’t forget the entire evolution of equality in women isn’t that old. So while we finally accept that a woman can be anything she wants to be, I think their is still a double standard that is not bred out of us - yet. And from what I’ve experienced, it’s in BOTH men and women. In fact, I think women are the tougher critics of other women - more so than men. Go figure.
