I struggled a lot with anxiety as a child and used comedy as an outlet, John Candy was my favorite comedian, his movies were so awesome and I absolutely loved his spirit. Thanks for allowing Him to live on for us fans! Breaks my heart that he passed, but he left us so much!! Truly a guy to celebrate!!
Your dad was the funniest guy that ever lived! There will never be another one like him. Not only was he the funniest guy ever but he was the most likable guy ever. It was impossible to not love John Candy.
Since the early days of SCTV, you could see that there was genuine affection and respect within the cast. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. My two favorite characters were John and Eugene, simply because they played so well off one another.
Excellent show, Jen! Your approach adds a whole new dimension to the interview because of your personal connection to Eugene. I watched every SCTV episode faithfully over and over since the 70s, and it's so interesting seeing the personal side of SCTV alumni, the family pics. And OMG I forgot all about that scene in Armed and Dangerous with your dad and Eugene in drag. I'm still laughing at that pic. They were so incredibly talented and funny, and such good hearted people deep down. I wish we could've seen your show while in LA a few weeks ago. Next time!
Thank you for posting these. I an shocked that there is not more views or likes. But, alas. People that were "of age" in the early '70's into the "90's are not the crowd that will give a lot of attention to this history. God bless you...
Fantastic interview! Eugene is one of a kind and glad to see he is as nice as he is funny. But I think that also comes through in his acting abilities.
Finally the straight scoop on whether The Schmenges were really playing their instruments. Both John and Eugene did such a convincing job of feigning playing their instruments I gave them better than a 50% chance they were indeed playing for real.

John and Eugene were one of the funniest duos ever. Everything they did together was magic!

Pepi was absolutely hilarious! Look at me, I’m a potato….
I lament being born beyond the '30s and '40s film greats, but I am soooo thankful that I lived all thru the SCTV and it's preceding times.
