His Count Floyd stuff was golden . He would reference Pittsburgh and towns around it . Fellow Pittsburgher and U.S. Air Force vet here . We miss you Joe . What a talent !!!!
Taking in all the Joe I can right now. Characters, voices, impersonations, writing all done so well. Separately, I can't help but notice how much her laugh is just like her father's.
One of the few comments you will get from Europe. A German living in the Rhineland but grew up in Ontario and I loved SCTV! I could have listened to Joe for hours. RIP Joe. Condolences to your loved ones.
I loved him as the dance hall announcer character in 1941, with the little white mouse on his shoulder. His border guard in Stripes was great too. Those were my introduction to Joe. Funny and nice guy.
@@sralyn They were both smiling all of the time; I liked them both. Ramis was only on the TV show a single year, I think, but he was the one that suggested Caballero should be in a wheel chair "for respect". Flaherty's costume was based on Lional Barrymore in "Key Largo".
SCTV is my favorite comedy show of all time. Count Floyd, Guy Cabellero, Vic Arpeggio, Sammy Maudlin, Rocco and many others are all classic characters Joe created.
funny to see how much alive he became recalling all the fun from SCTV. It was like he never aged. Seems age is all in how you feel and present yourself.
Great interview! I could listen to Joe telling these stories for hours. One of my favorites of all time, along with the late great John Candy. SCTV was the best!
Am so deeply sad at the loss of Joe..I remember being back in high school when I first discovered SCTV (on Global TV in Toronto) & right from the beginning, with the possible exception of Candy, no one made me laugh harder than Joe. An enormous talent whose influence ran thru everyone on SCTV and early SNL. With or without the wheelchair, he will forever have our respect..and love.
I remember seeing him on the episode of Married...With Children where Al's teeth hurt and Flaherty played the dentist whose in the middle of a bitter divorce while the dental assistant he cheated on his wife with is spending all his money.
One of the Greatest skits is called Dr. Tongues 3 D House of Stewardess, Rays Count Floyd, John Candy a dr Frankenstein character, and Eugene Levy as henchman Bruno, absolutely Hysterical, you will Howl.
Sctv was a big part of my childhood. Only 2 other kids in school knew about it and watched it. We would recreate some of the scenes and act like some of the sketches in school. Everyone thought we were crazy
Thank you for doing this series and posting these episodes here. I love SCTV and grew up with the shows as well as John Candy's work. It's wonderful how everyone seems so close and how everyone speaks about their time at Second City so positively.
The cast of SCTV (Joe, John, Catherine, Eugene, Martin, Andrea, Rick and Dave), along with David Letterman and Steve Martin, were my comedy heroes in junior high and high school. I just couldn't get enough of any of them. They totally formed my sense of humor. And i still watch all of that stuff to this day. Lately my favorite Joe Flaherty character is Rocco from Days of the Week, but they're all just so funny. Sammy Maudlin is especially an all-time fave-- The Sammy Maudlin Show produced some of SCTV's greatest moments. R.I.P. Joe Flaherty.
"SCTV" and "Fridays" were 2 of my most favorite shows as a teenager. I almost felt like I'd discovered 2 secret gems that most of my friends were probably too dim or juvenile to enjoy. 😆
Great interview! Was there ever a part two? And, Mr. Flaherty -- if you're reading this -- I've been a fan since I discovered SCTV 40 years ago, and you still got it!
All these chats with the SCTV cast are great to watch. Clear to see that she grew up around them and now she gets to give them a place to reminisce about the days of the stage and TV shows. I can’t help but wonder if her resemblance to her father strikes them at times during the interviews. Especially since she frequently reacts with expressions that could practically be “William B Williams” on the couch with them. She has the same smiling head tilts her dad had. One thing I’m noticing, though, is that it’s hard to trust the dates these shows are said to be posted on. Many say 4 years, others say 4 months, and this one only two weeks ago. Maybe they’re being put up on RUclips on these dates, but they were all recorded around 2015? Certainly a interview with an audience isn’t being conducted well into a pandemic without ever mentioning it. Still, if these are just posted on dates, why are they so far apart? Put up a few, wait 4 years, then put up a few more? Doesn’t make a ton of sense, so it creates some doubt as to whether RUclips’s “posted on” dates are reliable or not. Whatever the case, it’s good to see any time this talented cast is given a little more spotlight, and it adds a really nice touch that the interviews are all conducted by someone who both knows them from back then and carries on a bit of their old comrade.
Joe was one of the many characters on Nero Wolfe it was a great cast and I love seeing Joe in those iconic Nero Wolfe shows a different identity each show so talented.
28:13 "Who is Harry Crumby " them best comedy film ever!!! some many clasic lines and sight gags. Here are 2 to look for -Beat it Tonto -John Candy standing over a sprinkler when it goes of soaking him from below ...he looks around then holds his hand out looking for rain
Sammy Maudlin needs to get a new talk show! William B is gone, but my guess is that Bobby Bittman, Lola heatherton, and the ghost of Bob Hope might be available as guests! Maybe skip Bitmann is still in the biz?
Sammy Maudlin and William B. Williams reunited with plenty of deceased and self promoting guests in the great talk show in the sky. Mother Teresa will have to move over.
Rip Joe. Such a funny face and an even funnier presentation. Fantastic on halfwits. I was also an engineer for a mine equipment manufacturer a couple of years ago in northern Ontario. My experiences are EXACTLY THE SAME as his. I love engineering and design, but I couldn't do those rollers drawings anymore.

Candy is 10x a better interviewer than Marc Maron. But why on earth cut off your interview for time when your legendary subject is willing and rolling strong??
Joe Flaherty will be eternally missed. The SCTV ensemble was totally brilliant but they would have been disconnected without Joe. Also missed will be Count Floyd, Guy Caballero, Floyd Robertson, Bud Abbott, Rochester, Jim Bob, and countless others.
I am not a SUPER FAN of anything . That is not me , at all. Well, just SCTV, and that is it. I would love to know where "Count Floyd" came from (the idea). When Mayor Tommy Shanks was chasing Earl Camembert how did you keep it together? And on and on.
Yea she's got a great personality, but where does she get the idea she needs to jump in every 2 minutes while he's telling a story. She needs to learn to not interrupt, for Crissake. But I get it, Joe talks a lot, what a funny man.
He was the heart of SCTV, I can't stop watching his talent. RIP Joe and John. This is a wonderful oral history.
RIP Joe. You were extremely talented and very very funny. Say hi to John for us.
OMG! Jen looks like her pops! Awesome.
Too thin.
The great thing about SCTV was their hilarious characters, all willing to share a scene. One of the best comedies ever.

You’re not alone in Europe, Austria! I’m from London Ont and grew up watching SCTV in the 70’s… love it. Joe was the Anchor! Loved his characters!!
The beauty of SCTV was the relationship between cast members that has endured for many decades in multiple roles.
I loved him as the dance hall announcer character in 1941, with the little white mouse on his shoulder. His border guard in Stripes was great too. Those were my introduction to Joe. Funny and nice guy.
I've always thought Joe is a very underrated comedian.
Totally!
He’s my favorite from SCTV.

Love the stories. Imagine being roommates with John Candy, John Belushi and Joe Flaherty in the early 70's.
funny to see how much alive he became recalling all the fun from SCTV. It was like he never aged. Seems age is all in how you feel and present yourself.
What a legend ... and what a legendary comedy troupe - Radner, Ackroyd, et al; I am almost 70 and can't begin to tell how much they all meant!

I was just looking through these videos when I heard about Joe. The views on this video jumped way up in one day. Guy Caballero has many fans.
He was always funny. He also was the Western Union man at the end of Back To The Future II

Loved Flaherty's characters. The stammering and pausing mixed with mild anger.
Don't forget the fact that some of Flaherty's characters are drunks or men on the verge of an emotional breakdown.
