David always had such good, eclectic taste. A true purveyor of culture and, most prominently, music. Miss the man.

Davies and Jones; England's two greatest singer-songwriters. David was sensitive to Ray's genius which says a lot about him

I’d put Pete Townshend on that list for sure. Yes, he is a bastard but damn did that man write some of the best songs ever put on vinyl and had a hell of a voice in the 70’s-80’s!

Am I just a face in the crowd, is that all I'll ever be? Don't tread on dearest Marilyn cuz she's not very tough, she should have been made of iron or steel but she was only flesh and blood. I'm glad I'm a man and so's Lola.

Interesting that Bowie says Waterloo Sunset couldn't be set anywhere else, given that Ray was initially going to call the song "Liverpool Sunset"

Yes, but would it have resonated with people using that title? Would it still be remembered in 2024?

I don't think Bowie realised it was originally going to be called Liverpool Sunset!

Hmmm, love Ray but the Beatles, Stones and The Who didn’t exactly suck. Ray was amazing but wouldn’t say he shits on them. That’s a bit much and I think you know it.

Bowie is like Frank Zappa for me. I'm not huge fan of the music....but could listen to both talk all day.

A writer and journalist. He writes both fiction and non-fiction, the non-fiction being mostly history and biography; in particular he has written several books about London, in particular "London: a Biography", which is a (fairly) linear history of London, but one in which London is treated more or less as an organic entity. I think that these London books are what Bowie has in mind when he likens him to Ray. I've read many of his books - they are very good to read.

More of a Dan Akroyd and Alan Aykborn man myself. But maybe if you put them together you get that Peter bloke?
