Normal good guitar players have 500 good licks..pro gutarists have 1000..Maybe Steve and Joe has more 2000+. However... Gg has a billion of beautiful and magical licks.Wonderful life!
Andychips dude you are right on it man. I have followed vai satriani and all the elites for many years and the interesting and extremely significant thing here is that this is the first time I have saw Steve Vai playing defensively as no other guitarist that hes played with and hes played with them all has ever knocked him off his throne. Such is the genius and incredible talent of Guthrie Govan. He is a gift for all lovers of guitar and still remains humble as a man. What a role model for young players coming along.
3 amazing players but I continue to be disappointed in the lack of interesting chord changes - I’d especially love to hear Guthrie outline changes as well as he does.
@2:52 damn I've never seen Vai do this before to another guitarist on stage. Unless you count the movie Crossroads he starred in haha A little aggressive are we now, Steve?
About the Steve cutting off Guthrie comments... I have to admit, it sure as hell sounded that way to me too. Then I restarted the video and started to count beats. My conclusion is, and anyone else's would be too if they carefully listen and count, that Guthrie comes in a bit late and everyone plays over the equal number of bars - 2 bars or 4/4. Steve does not come in on Guthrie's designated place. They start to play one bar at around 2:53 mark. Other than that you could say Steve cut off Guthrie only once (I think around 1:30 - don't wanna rewind again). But the rest of the time Vai was coming in on exactly where he was supposed to and it sounded off only because Guthrie came in a little late, not starting on one. As for people saying Vai is not as good as Guthrie, you can fuck off. Vai play over a rock structure, rhythmically - all 4/4 stuff., because I wold presume that is the reflection of his time. I personally prefer a more jazzier rhythmic foundation. So, from that perspective you could say I like Guthrie more. But if you don't hear the brilliance in Steve's notes and composition and playing, you are deaf or don't understand music.
true.....you cant compare vai with GG...vai have been thru years playing from neo classical trend in the 80s and now.....he had played almost all of that....he doesnt have to prove it again now
Saqib Saqib Vai smokes them!!!! Guthrie is good but extremely BORING. Guthrie lacks personality on the guitar. Guthrie better then Vai...... Lmao Guthrie is a musician Vai is evolution
I don't think that Vai is jealous because of Guthrie... there's no reason to be... Vai has played with the biggest names in rock history, Satriani also...They're just having fun, "communicating" through guitars
Looks like they Split aside and Guthrie is the opponent. Well, finally they have one. He is a remarkable player, hey, i´m not inventing, all you have to do is watch the video and se for yourself. One of the best guitarist for surre. 👌👍
yup - very annoying - he has done it to others - most of the time. probably got the bad attitude from frank zappa humiliating him by having him play in a dress and pigtails.
Was just about to say Vai is a little rude to Guthrie interrupting his turn everytime. Looks like I'm not the only one who caught that. Guthrie is the most interesting player out of these legends and the most polite when trading licks .
GG is so obviously head and shoulders above the other two. He keeps taking whatever pentatonic or noisy stuff they’re doing and either copying it or wildly improving. Neither of the others could ever do that. If this is a competition it isn’t exactly fair… but then music shouldn’t be a competition
I guess the people that were complaining about Vai and Satriani being afraid of doing a G3 with Guthrie are the ones now saying that Guthrie is on a different level than these guys. Well, in my opinion (please note I'm not a music critic, nor a reference for anything, just another person on youtube), Satriani and Vai earned their right to be on any music stage and have earned the respect way before anyone else, particularly Satriani. Without Satriani there won't be a Guthrie, he was the blue print that many followed. Whether you like his style of not, you have to respect that. On a side note, Guthrie is amazingly proficient technically, but doesn't have a voice of his own, if you were given this audio without the video, I'm pretty sure you would recognize Satriani and Vai's playing, but Guthries you might not.
It could be my friend, I think he has inspired many kids to pick up a guitar and play which is a rarity nowadays, so his contribution is immense in that sense. Fortunately RUclips showed us how good he is, he should have been there with all the 80's shredders, but for some reason he wasn't. I still believe he doesn't sound unique, but that's again my opinion, glad you can hear the difference. Take care.
gil84rs Respect your opinion. In my opinion Govan have one of the most Special and particular styles. I can recognice Govans play in one or two seconds. I really cant understand How you cant See that, but of course is your opinion.
i would recognize gg's playing on a first note. it's not a problem of spotlight or else. Yes, maybe you are right that satch and vai have the blue print or whatever you called it. But that doesn't mean that you can be disrespectful to guthrie. So if Hendrix still alive, i can say the same to satch and vai? because hendrix was playing before them, and he had the master of the blueprint that many followed?
Anton Barkland fair point. but I'd rather have Guthrie's complete control of the instrument and be able to play anything that comes to mind in any style as opposed to joe and steves popularity. guthrie isn't as popular because he hasn't been around as long and his music isn't as radio friendly and can be very dissonant in the jazz fusion genre.

Amen😇
For anyone really claiming Vai isn't coming in early over Guthrie, which at points is a bit ambiguous, 1:29 is a particularly egregious example.
Joe is still the best
Joe Satrian >>> Business Man
guthrie just dsnt play a bad note...legend!!
This is amazing. Watching this gives me the chills!
THE BEST G3 EVER....
3 of my fav legends!
Guthrie is the best, aguitar God
Holy shit I have seen the Outer limits oF Guitar playing.
3:10 was the good the bad and the ugly haha
GG....!!!!...after produce some guitar gods in 60s & 70s, England continue with GG
3 amazing players but I continue to be disappointed in the lack of interesting chord changes - I’d especially love to hear Guthrie outline changes as well as he does.
Guthrie just amazing ❤❤❤
1:23 I kinda wish vai let us see where this idea was going instead of playing the same whammy lick for the nth time
vai is just making noise
for those who have never understand Vai's world and Vai's music, yes
Nah you can tell by his expression he's not having fun, knowing that GG is near him and is far superior.
@@gasimafonja1 Yeah Everytime someone dislikes Vais music or Guitar Style we dont understand. Thats getting Lame.
Thats right! Its annoying .
Nice his most of songs are noise.
@2:52 damn I've never seen Vai do this before to another guitarist on stage. Unless you count the movie Crossroads he starred in haha A little aggressive are we now, Steve?
What's vai upto haha. Steve, cmon we get that ur a legend. why the envy tho?
But if you don't hear the brilliance in Steve's notes and composition and playing, you are deaf or don't understand music.
true.....you cant compare vai with GG...vai have been thru years playing from neo classical trend in the 80s and now.....he had played almost all of that....he doesnt have to prove it again now
0:53 What is the name of this technique?
nonsense plus unmelodic anyhow technique
Saqib Saqib
Vai smokes them!!!!
Guthrie is good but extremely BORING.
Guthrie lacks personality on the guitar.
Guthrie better then Vai......
Lmao
Guthrie is a musician
Vai is evolution
Saqib Saqib smart people, agreed
Is that a new model for guthrie's charvel?
I think so!
It is. I have one and it is magnificent
I think so
+Mister Tee I want one very badly. Which kidney did you have to sell in order to afford it?
Robbspeed3
Saving and careful trading of other guitars
I don't think that Vai is jealous because of Guthrie... there's no reason to be... Vai has played with the biggest names in rock history, Satriani also...They're just having fun, "communicating" through guitars
Looks like they Split aside and Guthrie is the opponent. Well, finally they have one. He is a remarkable player, hey, i´m not inventing, all you have to do is watch the video and se for yourself. One of the best guitarist for surre. 👌👍
Guthrie is playing with them lol
They summoned all 3 guitar gods in just one turn
Vai cuts of the resolution to every one of Guthrie’s lines 🤦🏻♂️
yup - very annoying - he has done it to others - most of the time. probably got the bad attitude from frank zappa humiliating him by having him play in a dress and pigtails.
Was just about to say Vai is a little rude to Guthrie interrupting his turn everytime. Looks like I'm not the only one who caught that. Guthrie is the most interesting player out of these legends and the most polite when trading licks .
three of my top five
Guthrie taught both of them..,masterclass..
Steve is just joining in he can play by his self easily so why would he feel insecure. He just likes the flow of joining early instead of after
GG is so obviously head and shoulders above the other two. He keeps taking whatever pentatonic or noisy stuff they’re doing and either copying it or wildly improving. Neither of the others could ever do that. If this is a competition it isn’t exactly fair… but then music shouldn’t be a competition
What the fuck is wrong with Steve here? He doesn't let Guthrie finish his turn.
I agree he act disrespectful
I'm pretty sure you could recognize guthrie. He has a very distinct sound to him just like vai and satch.
Take care.
gil84rs just haven't listen enough of guthrie. I can recognize Guthrie's playing just one hit of a note.
gil84rs Respect your opinion.
Guthrie to Vai - You're rushing. Vai to Guthrie - You're dragging.
wow seeing Guthrie with those two is insane, I can't even imagine how he feels
Yo no disrespect to joe and Steve but guthrie is a fucking alien who can't be rivaled.
@@fernandomoreno7753 so true, Guthrie seems like he's just trying to blend in, there's so much he has in his mind, but his fingers holding him back
And Steve looks mad already, interrupting Guthrie on every sequence. The second Guthrie would go all in, Steve's gonna leave hte building, I believe 😂
