- Final Jam G3 (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, The Aristocrtas ft. Guthrie Govan, Marco Minnemann and Bryan Beller and Mike Keneally) @ RockInRoma 2016
Vai interrupting Guthrie every time gets on my nerves.
he likes to lead in, funny it can come off that way
When is that?i only see them taking turns.
He is kind of jealous to Guthrie’s talent
@@jotaro3980 I think the same. It doesn't happen too often that Vai finds himself playing next to someone better than him, and he clearly wants the spotlight too bad.
@@alvarotovar3367 I respect vai a lot, he is my guitar hero, but he always overused the whammy in his phases in gigs, every time he doesn’t know how to deal with the progression, he will use whammy, it’s boring to always hear that, not innovative
Steve Vai never lets Guthrie finish!
That is right
Keep in mind that sometimes Guthrie is actually playing into Steve's bars, although you are correct Steve sometimes jumps the gun.
True
respect to steve and satriani but they've got nothing on the young blood. The fact that they dont let him finish shows their intimidation and the aggressive need to establish themselves as superior, whereas guthrie is more innovative, creative and fun
WHO is innovative? VAI is innovative! Guthrie beats the tempo just trying to get it right
Got to give to Guthrie here. He is being bullied a bit by Vai but is a good sport about it and holds his own. I think he pushed the old dogs to the limit. I have always been a Satch and Vai fan but it's nice to see new talent rising in the ranks...
Would love 2 see Guthrie live!!
This is amazing. Watching this gives me the chills!
mto lokooo!! So Craaazyyy!!!
G3 - Gu3
Steve Vai was selfish, he didn't let Guthrie Govan finish his lick, it seemed like Steve Vai was afraid of losing the game to Guthrie.

guthrie is so much better than the other 2... and the other 2 are completely awesome... but guthrie... I think his playing is so far beyond.. he can do all the other 2 are trying to do, but better.... best guitarist on the planet... easily...
I get the impression Joe and Guthrie are trying to have fun, but Steve comes off as a bit insecure.
Yeah, Joe seems genuinely stoked almost every time Guthrie plays & looks like he's having a lot more fun than Vai.
That's because until Guthrie came around Steve was close to if not the most technically gifted guitarist on the planet but isn't in Guthrie's league
@@jamiemacmillan4056 *ahem* Paul Gilbert
@@Bentheguitarist1 and a bunch of others.. Shawn lane. Jason Becker holdsworth. Petrucci... etc
i find via annoying - he was trying to do the same sort of thing with malmsteen - he had his volume right up tho lol. he aint the best guitarist in the world (never was).
Satriani actually surfed with an alien here, Guthrie isn't from this planet!
0:53 What is the name of this technique?
There's no technique in there sir! You can't do that! You gotta be an alien first!
And in the end you would only need Shawn Lane left on this planet.
Haha just a opposite😆😂
Guthrie is just taking what satriani throws at him and does it with a twist. he has instant pick of what satriani is doing. raw talent
Throws At Him? What Does That Mean!
@@ScottD44 its a phrase for saying whatever he plays. Guthrie is quick to pick up whatever is going on and translate it on his fingers. With a twist as always
"its a conversation" :)
2:53 Vai Challenges Guthrie, (watch Guthrie prepare to respond) then Satch diffuses the situation by using his teeth on the Guitar as a way to make Guthrie laugh and forget about destroying Vai on stage
I feel that Vai is abit rude here, he's never let Guthrie finish his solo...
Best analyze
that sounds like my acid trip.
overthinking
That was probably just to let Guthrie know they're switching the solo time to half a bar each, y'all drama seekers are reading way too much into a fun improv 😂
1:00 GG, responds with a "musical" 8 finger tapping version of what Joe did... Without even looking at the fretboard. Plays it in two separate phrases, the notes within, and ending note of each phrase makes perfect sense. Bryan smiling at MK as if to say "just toooo good!"
gg
yeah i see that too , guthrie is just incredible !
Yeap that was impressive, he knows what he is doing :)
Epic
I don’t think vai likes govan
Steve vai is so jealous of Guthrie 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ikr and intimidated. you can see the same thing when malmsteen did the g3 - he destroyed vai at that gig. g3 denver
😁
So whattt
indeed
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
it's annoying to see steve cut into Guthrie's solo not just once but many times (in other videos as well), which i felt was intentional and a clear indication of his insecurity playing with another virtuoso.
watikiks vai is not a virtuoso
Yngwie is
Sad to say, Stevie feels a bit threatened here..you gotta realize, this guy was/is a guitar god and has the ego to got with it. It's hard to let go and realize that the up and coming talent is pushing the envelope...All in all, I love to see the chemistry with the past meets the future....
This seems to be a common misconception in the comments, they each kinda start as the other begins, often times Guthrie was still soloing when it was Vai's turn.
couple of guys saying they are following the 4/4 beat.. But I think Vai should have respected Guthrie's flow.. some might argue Vai sneaks in to keep the transition smooth.. But i mean
come on its Guthrie that we are talking about here..that man surely knows when to pass on the riff even when he is asleep..Guthrie is genuinely humble in his playing so I think he knows when enough is enough.. Vai as a musician to the other should have the feel for music of his co-virtuoso the beat can follow through on that..
Poor Vai. Seems so desperate to secure his reputation.
Dude, he does not have to do this ...
why do you say that?
João Belo 100%
totally agree with this argument hahhaa..
then there is a moment at 3:46 when we are realized that guthrie has many more and higher brilliant ideas than these 2 ancients partners
I second that! POOR STEVE VAI!
I like G3 but I wish these final jams would move beyond bluesy tracks and choose a track that has some real musical complexity, maybe a few key changes or something. These players are more than capable of playing with such a format.
Guthrie is too good for g3.
much better then all , but( BIRELI LA GRENE) : THE LIMITE
@@PINCHSHOTGUITAR he's got technique but his playing doesnt have much feels as steve & joe does.
@@sivasubban4560 😂you made me laugh
@@sivasubban4560 are you kidding me😂😂
@@sivasubban4560 fuck the feels
Guthrie Govan killed it!
@Ronald Doctor guthrie has MUCH more "feel" than frank imho.
i think Satch and Guthrie have a special bond , they sound amazing together
I love how Guthrie threw in the Good, The Bad and The Ugly. 3:09
Yeah, and he expected the other two to join in the amusement (irony possibly?) but they just didn't get it!
Bryan Beller noticed it and laughed. Shame Satch and Vai didn't get it. Would have been funny if they all played a part.
I could be wrong but I get the impression that Joe and Steve are taking this all a bit too seriously whereas Guthrie just wants to have fun. And taking the irony of the Good, Bad & Ugly theme further, which one's which? haha!
Joe ate that shit up! He totes got it..was feeding off of Guthrie big time...
Es la mejor respuesta musical!!!!
No disrespect to Satriani and Vai, they're both legends...but honestly every time I watch this video I'm amazed by how effortlessly Guthrie just blows them out of the water.
Yeah, quite so.
Yes absolutely
But I don't really know what his own personal style is because I heard him play all styles. Without effort (investment?)
With due respect to Guthrie and Steve, Joe is on another level.
@@morten1 really? i actually think he has a very distinct style. he plays in often unpredictable patterns full of wacky slides and insane bends while closely following the key notes of every chord in the background, also throwing some chromatic notes for flavor. as an example, when listening to "have a blast" by periphery, you can tell PRECISELY when guthrie starts soloing because of this unique kind of playing.
1:20 GG with a fusion lick. Barely looks at the fretboard.
Dear Steve vai. Will you please enter on the 1st beat and not before that so that it won’t interrupt Guthrie’s solo. Listen to what Guthrie wants to say and than reply on it rather than interrupting. : ) and to be honest the whole crowd wants to listen Guthrie only. In fact as you can see, the crowd is reacting more in the positive way when Guthrie finishes his solo. And people like me are watching this video just because there’s Guthrie in it. Or else I wouldn’t have clicked on this video.
In se cure . Vai wants all the spotlight .
The next G3 should be Govan...Gambale....Garsed....
- they all have "G" matches the name G3
matthew ivan panes It should be Gilbert govan and gambale.
Slimy_the _horrible_Guitarist
I have to disagree... gilbert is still and right now..learning to play fusion...
He would be eaten up by Garsed’s chromatic and legato lines...
and Gilbert got his blues triggered by Govan... he is not a natural fusion /jazz or blues player..
Gilbert is a classically trained guitar player...
Garsed all day everyday 24/7 over Gilbert.
They are all individuals, I think it misses the point to rank one above the other. Having taken that position, Joe is such a melodist, along with all his other virtues, and it doesn't even occur to him that there is a "competition" in that sense, he's too pure and secure for that type of thinking / playing. I love all three of them, each is a blessing from the Ultimate Guitarist.
@0:54 - Stop listening with your asshole and use your brain and ears instead..
Vai looks and plays like a Las Vegas magician...the David Copperfield of guitar, demonstrating tricks that amaze the audience yet tricks nevertheless.
Guthrie looks and plays like an actual ancient wizard who was created to play the electric guitar by an order of Magi amidst the boulders of Stonehenge.
Guthrie sites Vai as is biggest influence. And he actually celebrates the exact thing your criticizing Vai for. Guthrie has said in interviews that he likes guitarists who aren’t trying to impress but to entertain, and that’s a big part of Steve’s style. Be that as it may, it’s not just tricks. A lot of what he does is very difficult to do especially if you’re trying to improvise over chords. Easy to criticize someone for the way they overuse certain techniques, when one tries to implement that into one’s own playing it becomes apparent how much talent it takes to pull off said tricks.
@Dr Diablory This also is not Vai’s most inspired playing. He plays way better by himself. I’ve never thought of Vai as “boxy” at all, he’s actually one of the top players I’d describe as having a very loose and free approach, but I agree Guthrie is amazing at doing that.
I have to say after watching the Hydra video, Steve Vai is the true wizard here, and I don't even like the guy or his music. I don't see Guthrie playing an entire studio simultaneously. Just keepin' it real Guthrie is amazing no doubt.
Man you couldn't describe Guthrie better 😂😂 if I saw him doing that at stonehenge I would be so happy 😂😂
@@KickflipGnasty
You can say the exact same thing about a great magician, hence my comparison.
They should rename it to Guthrie Godvan and 2
Guthrie Govan !!!
its not a competition, its just 3 guys having fun jammin it out
yea, it's a little ridiculous how fired up people get. The internet is an awful place lmao.
Yep. All three are amazing players, and all have recognisable aspects of their styles that have influenced thousands (millions?) of players in their own way. A person can sound like any one of them given enough practise, and another person might endlessly bang on about who is "the best", but can that person invent the sound itself? A new, recognisable style? Who is trying to sound like the anonymous internet commenter?
totally agree
Yes!
Not a competition? Wha ha ha . Are you blind and deaf?
people satriani gets it ok. the man is the greatest, simply said! he can play any genre of music, blues, jazz, prog jazz, rock, prog rock, metal, thrash metal, he plays acoustic guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, harmonica, and is an accomplished flaminco guitarist! he shreds beautifully! their is nothing he cant do, so stop the bullshit about joe satriani!
Vai is not particularly good at improvisation.
vai is just making noise
for those who have never understand Vai's world and Vai's music, yes
Nah you can tell by his expression he's not having fun, knowing that GG is near him and is far superior.
@@gasimafonja1 Yeah Everytime someone dislikes Vais music or Guitar Style we dont understand. Thats getting Lame.
Thats right! Its annoying .
Nice his most of songs are noise.
just by commenting on this particular video, it feels like;
Guthrie is the God walking among other humans.
Satch is in another level of playing and nearly head to head with Guthrie himself.
Vai is just trying to keep up to these two and its really annoying that he constantly dont let Guthrie to finish.
1:01 Thug life.
What the fuck is wrong with Steve here? He doesn't let Guthrie finish his turn.
I agree he act disrespectful
Gowan shows his qualties, Vai feels threatened, tries to top him and fail, Joe having a good time as ever!!!
Vai ran out of tricks early on. GG smokes both
Even an idiot knows how gifted Guthrie really is. I'm a fan of these three amazing talents.
Never saw Vai looks so uncomfortable and insecure like this before, and there's only one reason behind it is that Vai feels intimidated by Guthrie.
He is always like this.
Clearly, Steve Vai's insecurity as a guitarist must be why he's chosen to be on 78% of the G3 tours. Only an insecure guitarist would repeatedly choose to be on stage with the best in the world.
@@neilmurphy7594 Agreed. I’d call that a huge stretch. That’s not an educated opinion, that’s conjecture.
@Ronald Doctor even Guthrie is no Gambale.
LOL he doesn't look insecure up there laughing having a good time.
Joe is losing his funk jam and just trying to play every note to perfection, Steve plays from his bag of tricks and steps all over Guthrie maybe because he knows Guthrie is a much better player then him, and Guthrie rocked it by showing, anything you can do I can do better! The masters have become the students.😃 I wish this was on DVD!
In my opinion, one of the best G3 jams ever! Of course, Guthrie is far superior than any player he could ever come across with, but his presence has had a very positive influence on the jam.
If far superior means longest hair, then you're right!
Only Gilbert can do something against GG
Vai and Govan are great players but musically speaking Satriani is (and has) always something more, something better... He's not just a technical virtuoso. He's pure magic with his tone and feel. That's why he always leads in the stage and it's always the other guys who follow his riffs. His musical aura is just all over the place... Overall he's the best electric guitarist and composer of all time IMO, there are plenty of reasons for that.
100%
@@eshra4141 You don't know Govan then...Listen To his solos with Steven wilson

Kinda sick of Steve Vai. Im sorry he just doesn't sound good to me.
Kinda sick of music in general. Im sorry but they all just don't sound good to me.
Elitists...
can you do better???
@Sean Riley it doesn’t matter if he can play better or not. You don’t have to be a better singer than Adele to say you’re not a fan of her voice/music. Musical preference is all about your specific taste. Everyone has the right to like/dislike whatever they want. He said that Vai doesn’t sound good to him, not that he sucked at playing.
That little Hendrix run between joe and Guthrie was a cool implementation 2:20
4 years later here I am literally up to that purple haze bit scrolling down as I see Ur comment, perfect
@@gordywarin6804 no, it is not purple haze. It is voodoo child
Satch rules, like always and Guthrie will rule after him.
This video is old now but so many people cant count to 4 lol. Steve didnt interrupt Guthrie here, they each had 4 bars to improvise. Not to mention hes a Berklee graduate, you think he doesnt understand a simple 4 bar soloing section lmao?
If Guthrie wasn't interrupted 9 times out of 10 I'd have been fun
the long hair guy is really boring n doesn't have any uniqueness about his playing like the others do and he cant keep up either so he gets run over alot too bad his guitar is turned up way louder when his boring part comes up
Satch, Jedi guitar master of Jedi Guitar masters, is as cool as a cucumber no matter who he jams with. His sound, his melodies and quirks have musicality and are unmatched.
I agree satch is the best in my opinion his music is way more palatable than vais and govans
Sounds like a bunch of noise to me......i and I listen to buckethead lol
I never wanted them to jam together because i knew vai would act like a baby
so interesting to see how many gimmicks vai resorts to
Joe Satrian >>> Business Man
El padre.
el hijo.
Y el spiritu santo.
Amen😇
Guthrie should give Joe some of his hair
Was just about to say Vai is a little rude to Guthrie interrupting his turn everytime. Looks like I'm not the only one who caught that. Guthrie is the most interesting player out of these legends and the most polite when trading licks .
steve vai go home.. please lol
never fails to put me a smile: the mutual understanding between bryan beller and guthrie. bryan immediatly picked up guthrie´s chromatic descending phrase in 3:20 and replied instantly in his bass
Joe is still the best
Guthrie is playing with them lol
I watched the first 10 seconds then thought... why? Why am I watching when Vai told Guthrie pre show not to show them up. ! Vai did it when Guthrie was playing live b4 and it's in a vid on YT and Paul Gilbert did it when Guthrie was playing with him! I mean, really? Why not just let the guy play what he feels? It's because Guthrie is WAY ahead of Satch, Vai and Gilbert. Now, Gambale? Not so much. hehehe But I honestly am not watching this. I thought I would then the first 10 seconds is lame blues licks? cmon, man. Pause at :09 ! Satch and Vai are both looking down, concentrating hard on those BLUES licks. Guthrie is looking over at them. Vai used to be a monster but his ad libs are nowhere at Guthrie's level. Sad to say, neither is Satch's.
Could you post a link where Vai told him that? I'm really curious
You probably don't even play guitar. Sorry, steve vai and paul gilbert are far more technical than guthrie, guthrie is gimmicky as shit and cant do much more than flashy 8 finger tapping, paul gilbert and vai are far superior at alternate picking and string skipping, not to mention sweep picking.
Orange Fender Guthrie does that too, dude
I simply can't believe Paul Gilbert would do a such thing, do you have evidence of that? Because he seems like the most awesome and down to earth guy ever
No one can achieve what Joe Satriani n Steve Vai have achieved as a solo guitarist.
they are all legend no one is better than the other they have their own style and technique that is the uniqueness of these guitar players I love them all from Cambodia fan!
guthrie govan have amazing skills better than satch and vai,,, but in create music and album so many and many more satch and vai arrangement touch my heart,,, guthrie so far from satch in create good song,,, guthrie just like show look everybody look my skills,,, but satch when create album he just want look everybody iwish you like my song, even my daddy n mommy like instrument and know the bald man call satch,,,

You know you are in for a treat, when you go to a concert with 3 guitarists, and Steve Vai is the 3rd best one on stage!
see Vai and Satch huddling together.... the new guy is scary good.
I don't understand these comments always competing and throwing hate. I just want to enjoy this, but these garbage govan's fanboys really annoying like bots.

They just have 4 bars, sometimes 2, each and when it feels that they are cutting each other, it's just that they didn´t finish the phrase in a nice maner. Relax people.
Finally someone with a brain! Thank you sir!
Guthrie thinks.... what can i learn them today? 😂
1:23 I kinda wish vai let us see where this idea was going instead of playing the same whammy lick for the nth time
I guess the people that were complaining about Vai and Satriani being afraid of doing a G3 with Guthrie are the ones now saying that Guthrie is on a different level than these guys. Well, in my opinion (please note I'm not a music critic, nor a reference for anything, just another person on youtube), Satriani and Vai earned their right to be on any music stage and have earned the respect way before anyone else, particularly Satriani. Without Satriani there won't be a Guthrie, he was the blue print that many followed. Whether you like his style of not, you have to respect that. On a side note, Guthrie is amazingly proficient technically, but doesn't have a voice of his own, if you were given this audio without the video, I'm pretty sure you would recognize Satriani and Vai's playing, but Guthries you might not.
I'm pretty sure you could recognize guthrie. He has a very distinct sound to him just like vai and satch.
It could be my friend, I think he has inspired many kids to pick up a guitar and play which is a rarity nowadays, so his contribution is immense in that sense. Fortunately RUclips showed us how good he is, he should have been there with all the 80's shredders, but for some reason he wasn't. I still believe he doesn't sound unique, but that's again my opinion, glad you can hear the difference. Take care.
gil84rs just haven't listen enough of guthrie. I can recognize Guthrie's playing just one hit of a note.
gil84rs Respect your opinion. In my opinion Govan have one of the most Special and particular styles. I can recognice Govans play in one or two seconds. I really cant understand How you cant See that, but of course is your opinion.
i would recognize gg's playing on a first note. it's not a problem of spotlight or else. Yes, maybe you are right that satch and vai have the blue print or whatever you called it. But that doesn't mean that you can be disrespectful to guthrie. So if Hendrix still alive, i can say the same to satch and vai? because hendrix was playing before them, and he had the master of the blueprint that many followed?
Vai's head is too far up his arse to be likeable . And its like he kinda wants to be above Guthrie , who by the way is always humble .
I have a friend in Chelmsford who lived near Guthrie , who said whenever you play with him , although he was way out in front in terms of abilty , he always takes time to listen and compliment what you play .
Lol so many triggered G3 fans, I personally prefer satch but it was kinda dicky that vai kept interupting him
I kept wondering when Govan would start playing a Paganini caprice and Vai couldn't play it so Vai and the devil couldn't take Govan's mentor's soul…or something…
Gouthrie is an effortless multitalented guitar player...
Paul Gilbert would take all these guys to school.
For those complaining, Joe and Steve are very humble people and so is Guthire. Both Guthrie and Steve are equally talented on the guitar imo and more than Joe cuz he's less proggy and has stopped innovating but Joe and Steve's music is more profound with better production, composition and feel, even when they play fast, than Guthrie (even he's awesome in all thise areas but just less than these 2, some of his solos seem filler while joe and, especially Steve, every melody of theirs is vital and every second perfect). So, overall winner? Steve Vai! He can sing too, btw. Also, Joe and Steve have been playing together for years, of course, they're gonna have better chemistry!
PS:- These 3 and John Petrucci make up the 4 guitar gods in my life. So, this is an unbiased opinion coming from a huge fan of all 3. Also, Steve isn't interrupting, he's just taking the last note from Guthrie and making a perfect segway without an pause, that's what even blues musicians do. Another point, Guthrie keeps noodling for more duration than these, everyone's gitta shine, right? It won't be fair if B B king plays for 2 bars and Stevie Ray Vaughn for only 1 bar, right? Just enjoy and try to understand, stop complaining.
PPS :- All 3 of these have 3-4 techniques in which they're better than the others which is exactly why they don't try to copy each other.
Paul Gilbert
This is another jam session when Satch and Guthrie have clearly a good communication and Vai is just interrupting. It's annoying how he is breaking Guthrie's solo all the time... jealous or what???
From left to right: Bald>Long Hair> Longer Hair. Opposite of aging.
wat? it's entirely correct, though. Guthrie is the youngest and Joe the oldest.
***** nature is in perfect balance.
Dude Joe is like 60
Normal good guitar players have 500 good licks..pro gutarists have 1000..Maybe Steve and Joe has more 2000+.
However...
Gg has a billion of beautiful and magical licks.Wonderful life!
I get the feeling Steve Vai is trying really hard to outdo Guthrie. But, he can't. Guthrie has taken guitar to a whole new level of excellence. It's amost like Vai is kind of not acknowledging him.
Stevie vai sempre atropelando as frases do Govan....nao se garante pede agua kkkkkkk
Vai cuts of the resolution to every one of Guthrie’s lines 🤦🏻♂️
yup - very annoying - he has done it to others - most of the time. probably got the bad attitude from frank zappa humiliating him by having him play in a dress and pigtails.
