Ditto - I didn't even know about it until I saw this video. I saw the original G3 Tour/lineup back in 1996 in NYC at the Beacon Theatre....although Adrian Legg opened for them, who was incredible
Great stuff! they all sound amazing as always, as does the rest of the band! Too bad Eddie never played one of these gigs with them. Would have been interesting to see his influence in there.
If Edward was a part of it I would definitely buy a ticket . He was not of this world and I guess it was one of the reasons Dweezil worshiped him growing up despite always being around Vai.
He had a massive ego and was clearly threatened and worried about being outplayed especially with the improv. He was used to being worshipped as the best, but was actually very limited as an instrumentalist. So many of his solos have exactly the same phrases, especially that whammy scoop hammer-on thing he did to finish off almost every solo. I don't think he'd come off well on a G3 show in direct comparison to technically better guitarists.
Which is surprising. The dude plays at extreme volume on stage...at least he used to. Met him one time at a meet and greet on the Ah Via Musicom tour in Atlanta. Played the center stage theater. Three piece band. He had plexiglass in front of his amps and they still got over the PA. If you were standing at the stage.
I was there that night! Freaking the best guitarist in the world, Steve Vai blew his amp lol best part of the night was meeting Joe Satriani, who is greeting the fans out at the front of the venue! Probably the best show so far this year. Can’t wait to see Joe jamming with Sammy Hagar next month in Phoenix.☺️
hey everybody who loves guitar, rock and roll, hard rock, psychedelic rock alternative rock we really have to thank these guys for keeping guitar alive because the industry tried to kill it off.
Someone needs to reconsider the audio mix for these three guys together. EJ has vintage output pickups and Vai’s have about 5 1/2 times the output and then there’s the vintage amps vs the Synergy stuff. Either turn the two hi output maniacs down or turn the Vintage man up! If it’s gonna be like that at the LA show in a couple weeks I’m gonna be real mad.
Can you imagine how many hours of practice are standing up there on that stage? I probably could have made it to the big stage myself, but I let my depression take over my life and stop me from chasing my dreams. Now regret follows me like a shadow at noon
@@ArmandoTheGym I listened for the second again right now. I think the problem was in part me. I'm so used to hearing exotic scales and shredding from these guys. And, also some tunes are better played mostly straight. I actually heard some pretty awesome tones listening this time
he'll be there. have you heard his band the Aristocrats? tightest 3 piece I've ever heard..and I'm a huge Rush fan. ruclips.net/video/QPtOkHi4F2U/видео.html
Johnson was holding back to not deflate the other two egos on stage. All three are awesome, Eric Johnson's playing is untouchable. This is Teacher/Student nostalgia jamming. Plus Eric Johnson holding back.
Its amazing Joe Satriani is still Joe Satrianing and Steve Vai is still Steve Vaing.... I hope Eric Johnson will be Eric Johnsoning again as he used to do in a short period of time.

Looks like the guy from Thirsy Merc singing and playing keyboard. If you don't know the band check out my completeness and 20 good reasons. He sings, plays guitar and writes the songs.
Great who has the loudest amp jam and the band was just slamming along with it. Screw dynamic's. Eric might not have been in the mix but he was smart and saved his hearing. I think he knew what was about to happen.
Joe is so good, he plays guitar and the drums at the same time.
Most transgender folks are somewhat unattractive 😂
Hahahahah

I caught that, too!
Apart from anything else, I'm just so pleased to see someone as unbelievably talented as Rai Thistlethwayte getting these gigs!
More love for Thirsty Merc
Steve came in like a freight train ! 😮
Guitars that RULE the WORLD!!
Such an epic lineup. I'm absolutely devestated that I missed this show in my home town. Thanks for posting this.

Turn Eric up would ya!
big time!!
Unfortunately the nature of his warm and buttery tone doesn’t fit well with the hi gain players next to him.

Always yes
The sound guy needed to listen better and put both Eric and Joe up way louder in the mix!
The ending… priceless 💯

This is so so so damn good and Rai killin it on the vox!! Love it all!!🤘🤘🤘
Thank you so much for sharing!
I remember going to concert with my brothers to see Joe Satriani w/ Eric Johnson in the late 80s. I love it! I forgot that that even t was called? 🤔
Great to see this Amazing 3 Gems on stage once again after a decade

Sure hope they're shooting for a blu-ray of this tour. Its as close as us East Coasters are gonna get.
I kinda grew up with these guys as my heroes. It's nice to see that they honestly seem like humble dudes.
The Legacy is sounding killer! Steve have to back use the Legacy again, the best tone ❤
and dyed his hair brown for the tour ; )

the DiMarzio Utopia are actually not THAT high output, compared to EMGs, etc. But I agree with your point.

there was a used 2x12 Legacy Combo for sale at my local GC, regret not snatching it up because it was gone quickly.
How did I miss this???! I've lived in Tucson my whole life. 😅
this is the best g3
Fire the sound man😅 poor Eric...buried.

I'm a huge fan however they sound like amateurs. My friend sent me a video from the LA show last night of THIS song and it was horrendous... Wtf?

Good Blues ! The improvisation at the end is just totally Steve ! And their both harmonisation.
Wooww😮 this amazing colaboration
Vai doesn't have ANY blues sensibilities whatsoever, kinda weird that they chose to play this song.
Blues is about restraint, not speed.
Yes!👍👍👍👍

Is that Bryan Beller on the bass? Going to see them in Reno next week. Would be cool to see Beller there too!

Yes, and I don't understand why his bass is always so muddy and indecipherable when he plays with Satriani, he deserves so much better.
I'm seeing them in Fresno a week from today!
Great jam .
if I'm not mistaken the Bassist is from The Aristrocrats band and keyboards from Knower band.
Correct.
Yeah that's Brian Beller on Bass, and I don't know who the drummer and keyboardists are.

Steve and Eric get aged while Joe remains the same. Superb performance!
Eric has a few years on both of them and he suffers with severe tinnitus.

Damn… Sound guy was taking a piss when Eric played. 🤦🏻♂️

Steve was terrific in the movie "Crossroads". "Cuttin' heads."
Is that Bryan Beller on bass?
Yes for sure!
If I paid $100 and these guys started playing Crossroads, I would spit out my drink.
You can hear a bar band play it better for free.
Spit out your soy latte mocha-frappachino you mean, little beta?
Agree, that song is so overdone.
They close with sweet home chicago

Eric coming in like Tobey Maguire in No Way Home
Thanks to Mike Keneally for introducing me to the bassist, Bryan Beller.
Would love to see a jam with eric Clapton and joe satriani.

Beautiful ending melodic fantasy by Mr
Vai.Cool song and tones.
Vai hopeless at playing the blues
Satch can do the blues; Vai just can't
What Eric do at the outro? He had no floyd rose and sustainer to join Vai & Satch there 😅
I think the camera mic was straight in front of Steve's amp?
The techs need to learn fro those people behind the curtain for G3 96.
Hmmmmmmmmmm… I’d like to hear them all where they all have to play Mexican strats straight in to an amp with no fancy FX and sustaniaic tricks etc…

Was Eric wearing hearing protection, or studio cans ?
It sucks being the third guy on that stage
What are we doing here? its like watching the road runner vs the coyote?

Steve Vai's playing does not fit this song.
Hes not a blues guitarist so that makes sense
Kinda agree, Steve has admitted it himself, since he did not grow up hearing The Blues at home.
KbK was here!
Joe Satriani doesn’t seem to age. He is freakin 67 yrs old. And Steve is 63 and was also his student. 😶😶
