I feel like I'm watching a freaking David Attenborough documentary lol
Glad I'm not the only one that thought that lol, kind of relaxing if I'm honest.
Agreed upon.
So true
What I was thinking 😂😂😂
Tactical Scout I thought the exact same thing!
You have the PERFECT narration voice.
It's a gay whisper-ish voice that makes me uncomfortable. Hell no.
speech impediments and over-emphasized phonetics don't do it for me sadly.
@@StarfireRebirthCM what is your problem??
@@dio66791 He has no problem, he's only stating facts.
He sounds like a narrator for a wild life docu
There's a demo version called google streetview
Harald Lindohf best comment I've seen 😂😂
Haha
And you can do time travel.
jajaj loooool
It’s a dlc
I wanna plug this into kerbal space program.
Probably will make your computer explode
No, need to plug in *GTA V online* or *Red Dead Redemption 2 online* . Also add space from *Space Engine* . This would be a great edition. Also on future, through a brain implant from *Neurolink* and Steam collaboration, to walk around on this world.
Oh Cody. The more I know you. The more I like you.
I wanna plug it into DCSworld
Why do we think of the same thing lol
It's amazing what technology can do nowadays. A few years ago, we had PC's that could barely run pixilated video games. Today, we can make full scale planets, with biomes, ecosystems and animals.
TrueLionWithin
17 years ago I was playing starcraft on a supposely great gaming desktop. Now I play on my razer blade plenty of games at intense graphics. Man what a time to be alive.
A few years ago?
Not really. Fantastic real 3d graphics exist since at least the 80s. Even if most of it weren't commercial, but still great graphics were even possible nearly 4 decades ago. Take a look at "3D Link Flight Simulation" from 1984 as example. If game makers wouldn't be just making games for commerce, than we would have had even 5 years ago unbelievable realistic graphics, better than even actual.
@@suoquainen Fantastic graphics to what standards? It literally looks like Sim Copter.... We have clearly come a long way if that's the best example
The thing I love about outerra is that it is also being sold as an engine and they are encouraging people to make their own games using it, saw someone wanting to make a hyper realistic Kerbal Space Program type game, and it's easy to import your own models in to build cities and such.
I've been playing the demo for a while but I might actually buy into it soon, I've been doing 3d modelling for a while now and I'd love to build a city or something, maybe start building my own hometown (though with far more identical houses lol)
Theyr forums have a lot of info about theyr plans too ... theyre practically still at the very begining of the engine-building. Best spent money tho, if ya really want to go into importing models and giving them some life.
A year later what did you end up doing?
they did jack shit, and forgot this even existed
Wait...
So, is this even existed in the first place eh?
I have a plan about a survival game
it would be cool if players could build in their local area
Inner G medieval engineers? it's similar.
No no, actually build the houses around them. If each player built a little portion if their own city, they could quickly fill the planet with real countries.
Iunel Kirklin that is a great idea
why would it? what would you do then ? lol what would be the point?
Real world politics as shown by Gamers. lol or just complete corruption of that world.
Imagine Space Engine + Outerra + Oculus Rift in ten years
vanhouten64
Give it 4
Don't forget Star Citizen plus GTA V! Just imagine, having heists at your local bank or having your own procedural generated home where you live and you can set up heists or hang out with your real life friends.
Outerra + Civ 5 + Cities: Skylines
ℛɛᴛʀᴏ ℛɛᴅ Yes! We could build our massive cities around the world and you could drive through each of them. And if there were different countries where you could join and hold power, that would be awesome. And have your own home in your hometown which you pick. Also, you can fast travel to different parts of the map using an airport. It would be amazing.
vanhouten64 I would never leave my couch. Hemmeroids here I come
Wonder if planetary landings will ever be this good in Elite
One day...
Why do you think it isn't out yet? David have said in an development video quite early on that he wants everything to be perfect on planets down to every single tree/rock. To release something that perfect will take a very, VERY, long time. This is exactly what David Braben said in that early development video: Now one of the questions people have been asking a lot about for example is landing on planets. Now Yes we're going to have landing on planets but there is a lot of detail that that's really important so for example if you were then to have a follow-up question what will be there when you land on the planet. That's what's being concerning a lot. If you imagine every planet when you get down to the surface is just a different colored heightmap then that would be very very disappointing. Even with lovely atmospheric effects. What I want to see down on the planet is interesting things for example; cities, scapes, even animals, life, trees etc.... The amount of work to create those things is so huge. We want to do it properly. That's really important as we do each of these things really well so that sorta thing will not be included on day one. We don't want it to be a dull experience where you just go down you get essentially exactly the same experience wherever you land.
probably not.
*****
You have seen the current planetary landing in ED right? Barren dust bowls with Nothing? What makes you think they're waiting to make it "perfect". Nothing ED have released so far has been any where near perfect!
Even star citizens planet generation is looking pretty good. Mind you it was an earth like planet (with clouds and dust storms and snow). But even the algorithm seems superior to elite. I wish ED had more funds...
Anyone remember google maps flight sim? This is pretty much next gen that.
In the alpha version, you can fly planes.
I wish there was a fully procedural driving game that enables you to drive the whole world 1:1 scale. Something like FLight Simulator X, but with cars.
im tempted to get this thing and try to navigate from one airport to another in the truck, not using roads
VideoGuy try The Crew. Its all of the USA so already pretty big
You can drive across the USA in "The Crew". they made the major cities and then spaced them from each other the proper distance based off the scale of the whole map. It is a VERY large game and driving across the USA can take 30 minutes if you can sprint it in the fastest cars, or you can see all the different kinds of environments and cities all over the US. My personal favorite was to drift up and down the rocky mountains for hours. I have a Ferrari racing wheel for the Xbox One with pedals so that made it so enjoyable!
try american truck simulator it only has 3 states in it so far but it's big takes 45 min's - 1 hour to drive across the map
The graphics for The Crew is great, but no trucks. XD
However there ARE monster trucks, drag racing, and drifting!
coming soon : procedurally generated RUclips comments
Bugger. Time to procedurally degenerate my brain through THC consumption.
And the 2016 comments award goes to +David Holcomb
thank you, kind sir! I have almost 700 likes on another video on Linus tech tips (portable vr video) I am on fire lately
That's already a thing. Everybody's been spewing the same limited vocabulary of shit for years now. Procedurally generated doesn't mean infinite if the assets it uses are limited.
Example comment: "I'm in the dark side of RUclips again XDDDDDDDDDDDD"
David Holcomb imagine if you will, my mind exploding into a million pieces. And then drool pours out of my mouth while I moan. That's what your comment did to me
Imagine this in elite dangerous
It’s great. But not a lot to ‘do’ exactly. Needs more interactivity....
@@user-zv8qg1co4z why would it?
Star Citizen
@@laz001 That doesn't really matter to me, at least not for the time being.
Sometimes people just like to explore and look around, not everything has to be about grind, though I'm sure you don't comprehend that.
one day
I'm a bit confused. How is it procedural generation if it's Earth?
Keep in mind that procedural generation doesn't mean random. Procedural generation is a method of creating something from a mathematical formula.
Yes, but you can't really predict the results of the algorithm. If you want something to have the appearance of something that already exists, it makes more sense to load data rather than generate it. How did they get their algorithm to produce the results they want, other than randomly trying different seeds until they got one they wanted, which the odds of happening are very minimal?
well instead of building the whole earth by hand, that write this algorithm that the computer reads to generate the planet. The algorithm may consist of a bunch of letters and numbers but when the game engine reads it, it can decipher it into saying where the oceans, lakes, rivers, mountains etc are.
They have (probably) just imported already existing height maps of our planet and compressed all that data with some magical mathematical tricks into a world seed. This seed is used to calculate your environment on the fly. Only this last part is called "procedural generation".
TheKirov: As he explained, procedural =/= random. You don't need to predict the results of an algorithm if there's no random component to it.
The new map for Arma 4.
REKCEP this made me chuckle
The map is 100 GB alone.
That's a big damn map
I swore the opening scene looked like somewhere local to me, and when you zoomed out, sure enough, it was the southwestern US. Incredible
Can you imagine a game that is 100 percent online that allows you to go anywhere and build a house or start a business, online work with hundreds of thousands of players playing all the while. You can do anything you want inside the game with total freedom.
That would be incredible but unfortunately it would just result in anarchy where everyone kills everyone else if you had total freedom
could develop a nice dynamic.
Read Ready Player One! It's exactly like what you just said but on a bigger scale. Really fascinating to think we could get a game like the one in Ready Player One someday.
That is a thing. That call it..... the real world.
Lloyd hembury The real world isn't a game though, you could have so much more freedom to do whatever you wanted if it was a video game.
I don't get it. Where are all the Flat Earth Society comments?
lol exactly my thought
This is proof the earth is flat because if it was round this simulation would look exactly like real life. am i doin it right??
Chris, that made no sense lol
I thought there would be flat-earthers here using this software as proof that CGI can produce real-looking scenery. But as always they have no idea what they're talking about lol.
Bro Earth is flat or we would fall off cause if you flip a plate, everything on it falls down on the ground. Am I rite? Kappa kappa no sarcasm intended
Another fantastic video Ant. Great to see so many views-well deserved.
Just discovered your channel, and you may have the most soothing voice ever.
One day all these tech demo will be realized in future games design. The future of games is getting more and more promising...
And Star Citizen is even working on procedural cities for their procedural planets. Although it is more procedurally assisted as artists play a huge part in world creation and structure.
I want this for ArmA III ;-)
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Drill Instructor
I don't need a monster PC, I have the power of dreaming!
honestly, not that monster. I'm running the tech demo on my laptop with a Nvidia quadro k1000 ... no issues :)

I've had my eye on this for years thanks for covering Outerra.
This is the most relaxing voice ever
Very nice and soothing commentary. Subbed instantly!!

Obsidian, you really should make ASMR or whispering videos now and then with your content!
You have an extremely relaxing and calming voice
I've been on Outtera for a couple years now. It is truly remarkable
What wonderful narration. You have a great voice for this kind of video :-)
This tech demo looks more fun than NMS.
Hitch Slap I miss Hitchens :,(
Constant Variables we all do, we all do... :(
Everything is more fun then NMS
No man's sky was a tech demo
Getting kicked in the nuts is more fun than NMS.
The amount of people that insist NMS is the first space game ever is truly scary. I guess they're too young to remember the golden age of space games and are on consoles and somehow missed E:D.
***** Looking up things to disprove your own world view isn't very commonly done.
Ikr. NMS this, NMS that... it's getting really old now.
There was a procedurally generated space game on the Commodore64 where you flew around a planet surface endlessly picking up fallen pilots. Forgot its name.
Yes!
Anyone who thinks NMS is the number one space game need to learn about EVE online
bloody amazing. I am a Surveying engineer and professionally, I find this fascinating (personally too but I am a geek).
Clever use of topographical maps and procedural generation. Very smart!
Lovely video. Outerra is great, I've had it for a while now and can't wait to try it out in VR!
Will it be getting VR support?
***** As far as I know, it realy. I'll test tonight and report back.
Thank you.
the real question is does the weather pattern simulate lake effect snow properly if it does. 10/10 best procedural game of the year. if not well its still pretty cool.
Buffaloguy1991 assuming this has seasons?
good point
Damn that voice is soothing. I could listen this for days.
your voice is so smooth and soothing
Now, if only someone would be so kind to build the game on this...
Hey, if you want extra smooth camera movement when using a mouse I recommend you a program called Lazy Nezumi, which smooths out mouse input. You should give it a try.
Ah awesome info, thank you! :)
Outerra has had some impressive updates since this video was uploaded. Lakes and rivers (finally), thunder and lightning and much more. A very impressive project.
feels like watching an animal documentary but you get more and more interested
You have a very soothing voice.
I really hope it gets made into a sandbox and has vehcles, weapons NPC's and steam workshop support
why would you need weapons and npcs
this isnt garrys mod, this is a game for exploration id say
or you can play arma 2 or 3 for that manner
Arma 3 is a game I love to play, I have almost 2000 hours on it. it just gets boring exploring it after a while
Jakub Makovsky because this could be made into a wicked rpg
+Jakub Makovsky don't be gay it would be shit if u just had to roam about it would be mint if u could get in a car or fight people
NPC's and moving objects aren't very taxing on newer PC's
bloody hell, mate.
I got meself Outerra now and it's a thing of beauty and wonder.
I'm sitting on top of Mt Everest or overlook my hometown of choice, Sofia.
thanks :)
OMQ!!!! when you pointed out the mountains leaving the desert I was like "oh cool those mountains look familiar" and then you leave the planet and I realize you were in México and I was like "Oh right those are the mountains right outside my window" XD
3:08 This is a good video to show the flat earth people why the horizon looks straight or flat on a globe.
Blizzardesigns
Let me try to explain the horizon.
Grab a ball. Now look at it. Do you see its outline? The border that circles the ball? The line that circles the entire ball?
Now think of the horizon of our planet.
While looking straight, you will see the horizon as a line, because the imaginary line separates the ground from the sky. The funny thing is lines are supposed to be straight; however, the horizon isn't straight, it is a circle.
Don't believe me. Look outside off in the distance at the horizon, now turn around 360 degrees. You will notice that the horizon, circles with you, thus you are standing in the center of the circle. ( on a spherical object).
Bible verse. Isaiah 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth.
Now, have you ever wondered why the horizon moves farther in the distance as you gain altitude or run toward it? It is because you are able to see the land that was once hidden behind the horizon do to the "curvature" of the earth.
It is ironic; to claim not to see the curvature of the earth, when you are always looking right at it.
Due to our limited field of view, we are unable to see the entire shape of the horizon. However with Fisheye lens we do see it, the only time the earth appears straight/flat on fish eye lens is when the lens is on a level plane at its focal point. Just like the way we see the horizon with our own two eyes.
It's all about perspective. *Once you are able to get high enough to see most of the earth in view, then you will witness the horizon get pushed back far enough to become the outline of the earth, much like when you look at a ball*
Share the info. Thanks
Chris C. If flat-earthers can't get their heads around a spherical earth, imagine trying to show them why space is curved.
The difference of the angle is very small as seen by your viewpoint. This causes you to see it as a straight line which is not what it is.
u shld do some audio books mann. if any tell me
Awesome video man! Thanks for shedding some light on Outerra. The Cessna (C172) is also available in demo mode by the way.
I have insomnia and major depressive disorder but just your voice man, made me sleepy and relaxed. You should do chill as fuck reviews for games.
Woah is this gonna become an Everything Ever SIM ?
Elder Scrolls + Outerra + Multiplayer = Best RPG ever made
just wanted to say Thank you for not doing the fake widescreen thing alot of people do, this looks good on my 21:9 monitor (x34a) without blackbars on ALL sides :)
And good hoj on the video man :)
i love the voice over! cant be the only one
Star Citizen will include not just one planet but many planets in full scale procedular
No it won't. They don't care about making a game. It's a bullshit sell scam.
yes it will
I´m so looking forward to alpha 3.0 Dude.
so you remember no mans sky right?
The planets in SC aren't full scale, but 1/4 I think. Still very impressive, more-so than Outerra really because in Star Citizen the planets are far better looking and are completely loaded.
Hope to see something like this in ED ;)
Blown away. Games on the next generation of VR are going to be very cool
Great video, well put together. You have a new subscriber! This is some stunning software!
What Space Engineer's planets _should_ have been like..
you soooo right :)
This makes No Man's Sky look pathetic.
no mans sky is a good example of procedural generation done wrong
SarcasticDragon Gaming aye hen agreed commith 3.0 couldn't be soon enough 😛
SarcasticDragon Gaming you don't need so much to make nms look pathetic
Huehuehue you don't need anything to make it look pathetic, it just is by default.
That wasn't earth and it's a game which is complicated.
What really fascinate me is that atmosphere and clouds simulation... it looks really realistic.
I just went to look at this based off this video. Wow it has progressed a lot.
I hope elite dangerous can pull off something like this when we get to land on atmospheric planets
_Comment section summary_
Any game + This= *Fuck Yeah*!!
just tried it lol and i saw my home from before they layed down the streets and stuff ... how do you get the trees to look 3d or is that not a thing yet
where can i download / buy it please ? :D
"Go outside and Play!"
"I already am"
This is what I'm hoping landing on uninhabited Earth-like worlds will look like in Elite:Dangerous.
This is crazy cool. So many uses for this.
downloaded so fast, gonna help me with my world building for locations and events in a series im writting
Oh my God, if you can spawn military vehicles and troops that can actually fight wars on a real world scale I will buy this game 10 times
ARMA 3's Zeus mode might be what you want. The map is 270 km^2 which is much smaller than the real world, but plenty big to be interesting. And it'll let you place tanks, infantry, planes, helicopters etc. You can either take control yourself, or watch the AI fight it out.
I've already got Arma 3 (had it since beta) and the AI is still worse that arma 2, but more importantly no mod makers have put the Arleigh Burke Destroyer in game or any other warship that can do realistic naval battles at like 60 miles or even 120 miles like in real life
btw: I like apple pie, it tastes good -_-
Funnily enough, there is a military simulator is being developed in Outerra. Unfortunately, like VBS, I doubt it will be available to citizens, for a sensible price anyway.
Banda Branislav really lmfao? can you read at all?
You people build a massive god damn planet and then forget the clouds
I9I4 haha watch the video further :D
This demo has I believe one of the best cloud generation models hands down, Not because it looks extremely acurate or nice, But because it's super fast to render AND is still volumetric.
Is this demo version free to download? I dont see where at the website....
I wish my wifi is fast enough to view this in 480p :(
ScreenGames sadlife...
do you know i can't even watch this video in 144p?
I'm watching this video in 1080p6
I would be watching this in WQHD+, but the video wasn't posted in that resolution.
no one cares

What about the classic for procedual generation, Spore
Or even Rogue, Elite, Exile and Elder Scrolls: Arena. :)
Or Zarch, which I'm pretty sure was the first procgen 3D landscape. Blimey, I feel old. :o
all very true!
ObsidianAnt You should check out Daggerfall Tools for Unity. They're porting Daggerfall to unity and it is looking really good.
id say no mans sky is the classic of procedual generation. I mean, you can literally do anything!!
This looks so cool i be keeping an eye on this one
I keep seeing thumbnails for games like this next to elite dangerous videos, and I get excited thinking they’ve added atmospheric planets... even though I know that sort of content is years away at the very least.
Try open broadcaster. You can record everything with it. And it is open software, not like the program you use.
Agreed OBS is amazing
I need some help with obs, I can record it fine but when I look at the recording it is super stuttery
i like shadowplay
Professor RUclips There are tutorials on how to get it to record efficiently with good results
never had an issue with Shadowplay. It has zero impact on performance and captures in native resolution 60fps
Did you happen to find this on the SpaceEngine forums? Because just a few days, I found it there, and played around with it. And it's been out for years now, so if not, then that's quite a coincidence!
No, I've been using Outerra for years now. :)
ObsidianAnt Wow, that's funny! xD
been messing around with it also. really wish there was a game built around it i would love non combat game mechanics and fauna. i actually found nms then space engine then outerra before ed. which seemed like the best of all those. cant wait for planets of this fidelity in ed
Kaffi O Yeah, true. I suggested to the creator of SpaceEngine that maybe he could contact the guys from Outerra to hopefully implement this engine into SE.. Fingers crossed.
***** Funny as in it's a coincidence. That's another usage for funny.
Great game! And you have an amazing narrator's voice!
Wow, way to go on 50k! Last time I was here you were just over 40k! o:
A real-time weather system like flight simulator has has would be amazing
I don't know if its 'coz I'm stoned, but your voice is quite relaxing...
That was cool! Very impressive!
Thank you for the great video man
Impressive
Why the pop in?
Because it's Alpha.
Rapster got it
SirBlazinGames Sony exec: "What pop in? Price it as an AAA game anyway, just hype it with some prerendered demos."
***** kek
Can I use the terrain it generates in Unity? or is there something like it for unity?
Wow, that is amazing. Means I can walk the whole world in VR soon :)
I love procedural generation.
+Luke Skytrekker But this isn't, this is based on NASA's missions ;) Give NASA some love too :) www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/
It's still procedurally generated, just not _randomly_ procedurally generated. There's a distinction, and procedural != random.
That means absolutely nothing ;) Random is just another 'procedure'. Procedural planets are still 'random' just using the same seed everytime they are rendered. It they weren't random, you'd only get one planet ;)... However, Outerra by all means is a fully handcrafted planet, that's why it is Earth ;)
Completely wrong. Procedural means that the planet is generated based on a set of parameters. Randomness would mean there are no set parameters and each one would be a random value or state causing a different planet each time. Outerra IS procedural generated because the whole planet isn't stored in memory in the same way as a normal game world. It is instead generated by a code that draws the landscape based off what the engine is told by the set parameters. In other words, the engine is told what should be in view based on the position on the planet, for example. Then as you move closer, altitude would determine vegetation, snow etc and also the ecology. Desert, grassland and such. This data is the only thing stored and is able to generate landscapes without the need of developers designing much because it is impossible to map the entire planet and render it in such detail from close up.
Quazzimodo Productions A lot of completely wrong stuff in there. But don't know how you would altitude would determine desert, grassland or whatever. You should take a programming course. Or look up the Outerra blog, they actually explain how they do it there, before making up completely false assumptions. They use Blue Marble do determine where desert are for example. I cannot at all imagine how you would create a procedural Earth from altitude determining everything, sorry.
18 wheels of steel + this :D

Yea, 21:9 aspect ratio on youtube!
Can we get this in ED yet? xD
I don't think so
Erectile Dysfunction?
He sounds very professional I bet National Geographic would love him.
Did they upgrade the graphic s
if only STAR CITIZEN planets were actual planet size like this one. for now SC planets are No mans sky sizes
Because there have to be many planets. This one only has one. ONE!
CharlieMason
quality over quantity for me
Size isn't a reason for not having loads of planets. Elite literally has trillions of planets and they are all full sized, and will eventually be as detailed (or more detailed) than the one in Outerra.
CIG have limited the size of the planets for other - very valid - reasons, and it's not to do with the number of planets. :)
+Lord Zephyros Why does it matter if the planets are earthlike big or a little bit smaller?
The actual content in SC isn't all generated, so for the planets to feel somewhat alive they couldn't really be as big as real planets. The cities and stuff are hand made.
If only earth looked like this in Space Engine........
Can you go to the bottom of the ocean? Some place where we are yet unable to go to easily? Like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge?
Did you get this from flight sim plug in.
I got one of these accept mine has airports and working airfcraft.
0:47 ... how about Google Earth???
Google Earth is of course a great example! But it's not rendered in full 3D in the same manner as Outerra, which is what I actually meant, though didn't explain too well... :)
allright. Isa airee
it would be great if google earth had this level of detail.
Flight simulators such as FSX also do this.
not really lol, very inacurate :PP
