      Yes, before the upgrade, you were THE SHIP and you couldn't walk around on foot anywhere.
      A lot of space games are now under pressure from Star Citizen to let you land and walk around in space stations and on the ground, and maybe even walk around inside your ship in the future.

    A huge tip to players who are curious to try elite dangerous after this. In the settings you can program a button to set your ship throttle to 75%.
    When in super cruise heading to a destination, If you activate that throttle setting at 7 seconds on the clock “0:07
    You will always come in for a smooth entering and you’ll never have to turn around or emergency exit to get back to your destination.

If you go "slower" however it changes to different units, such as Mm/s (Megameters per second) with the slowest being m/s (meters per second).

    • @Dark__Thoughts
      @Dark__Thoughts 2 года назад +1

      @@TemalCageman Space legs are still a very different experience. Too bad the release was riddled with ongoing performance issues, which pretty much excluded a lot of people using low & midrange systems. I also think they should eliviate some of the issues of the long distances & slow travel times. Picking up speed while escaping a planets gravity for example takes about 1-2 minutes sometimes, which feels even longer since you can't actually do anything during that time. Same for some supercruise distances to other stars, which really should allow for a microjump (generally for bodies at a certain mass threshold). It's just very tedious and kind of a chore and that all got kinda worse with Horizons & then Odyssey. On foot experience has similar issues, or rather also adds onto existing issues, such as dying being very punishing in combination with the distance traveled (and with the all its time put into it) being lost. That's really my main complaint and why I'm not sure if I'll return, even if I ever get a new GPU, which hopefully compensates for the FPS issues in certain on foot situations.

I feel like elite is 95% of what I want with the other 5% being more curated content and ship interiors. You can set your ship to auto-pilot to a target in super cruise, so you don't have to think about speed and alignment. This way, you will never overshoot your target, and will drop right where you need to; at least in space. Atmosphere works a bit differently, and you will need to focus on alignment yourself, and the glide mechanics.

    I haven't played the Odyssey update, but the new tutorial mission was fun to watch vs what I originally did like 5 years ago "tossed into a ship and learn to fly" lol. I remember overshooting my destination probably a good thousand times before I just took a breath and spent like 3 days just learning how to fly (I originally played on PS4), then watched some videos. I remember a time where there wasn't any auto landing or departure, you had to buy the technology to help you do those things and it was expensive, and I kept bumping into walls and getting fined for it haha. So glad to see you are trying out a lot of new games, and can't wait for the next one!

    Well some basics for flying: That circle drawn around star is drop out zone, you will drop from supercruise and take heat damage if your course gets inside it. Also when you get close to your targwt (some 11 seconds or less in clock) drop down throttle to "blue zone", that way you don't overspeed. Plus there are a lots of ship missions from ship's menu at space stations if you do not care for on foot missions.
    (And when it comes to ship to ship combat, getting to combat with your starting ship with default weapons and shields is like trying to hunt a bear with an airgun. )

    Elite Dangerous is an amazing spaceflight game, probably the best one I have played, it just has a steep learning curve, but it's well worth the time to figure out. On-foot gameplay is only a recent addition, and most of the gameplay takes place in your ship.
    The mistake you were making with approaching station while in supercruise is you want to keep your throttle at 50-75%. Also, when you are scanned by security in a settlement, you have to comply. If you have any stolen goods on your or stolen identity, they will become hostile. You can delete your stolen identity before they scan you.

      Once you level up to being a glorified taxi driver ("tours"), you can make 30× the money doing one mission with twelve jumps vs a cargo haul with four.
      They may take a while but mathematically is still a faster credit earn than hauls especially if you take scans and trade along the way.

Star Citizen is more trying to give you a space adventure, while Elite is more of a simulation. Hard to say though because SC is still in Alpha.

    Ok, I commented on Star Citizen saying you should play this; happy to see you did.
    Being said, few things;
    One, on your left side panel; you can activate supercruise assist. Use this to help flying.
    The letters and all that have meaning. LY is light year. C mean constant or the speed of light so you can travel 0.58C or 0.58 times the speed of light. For other measurements, you’ll use the imperial system; Km is kilometers, if no notation it’s meters, and the only odd one is mms which is million meters.
    It’s a lot of numbers and stuff to think about, but if you zoom out you’d see how big the map is. It’s a 1:1 of the MilkyWay. You can land on majority of planets, and you can land where ever you want. You start to realize how long it takes to run 5 kilometer.
    Currently I’m out in Colonia which is 22,000LY away from the Local Bubble (where majority of the stuff happens). For scale, I’ve been flying for around a month; granted stopping here and there and scanning stuff, and I have a fulltime job but still… 22,000 light years. When I finally docked, I sold my data for over 100,000,000Cr.
    “The map is massive” is an understatement. A lot of it is empty space, but even with it being mostly empty space, you find some pretty cool stuff.

    I'll share my ED tip here, I have about 1,000 hours invested in it. If you're having problems covering distances in Elite and you need or want to get to a particular system, far away. Use a fuel scoop and neutron stars. The radiation cone of the neutron star can be scooped and supercharge your frameshift. There's actually a website you can use to help plot a route on the "neutron star highway." Be careful however, you can potentially get trapped in a system if you don't have the jump capabilities to exit, you damage your ship every time you enter the cone, and you can potentially get trapped within the cone causing a canopy breach and death. With an engineered Anaconda FSD, my jump potential is like 160 LYs. I traveled to Sag A* using them.

    Been playing ED exclusively in VR since beta.
    For PC players, play with Voice Attack. It'll add so much more depth and excitement. If you have the option for VR and a flight stick, take it. Easily one of the greatest experiences.
    The downside: Odyssey VR is a problem. Once you are on foot, it project a screen to play on that kills all immersion.
    If you're new, the game is worth it. There is so much to see. It's breathtaking. In VR there's a feeling of anxiety that never goes away. You're always paranoid about the next jump. It could be a black hole, a spastic neutron star, multiple dwarves/black holes, a Thargoid, or even the Salami killing space wizard. Or something nobody's ever seen before. Every jump is a risk, and you're not always guaranteed to finish the jump...

It was already a game in itself that has massively deep mechanics in space exploration and ship customisation and management. Along with piracy, our ty hunting and trade, but all done from the cockpit of your ship. The fact that you can now exit the ship and explore stuff in this way has just blown starfield out of the water! I'm buzzing g and I'm going now to purchase the expansion, so nice one

    Long time player here (almost 800 hours) one thing I wish they taught you was the 7 second rule for supercruise travel. When your eta hits 7 seconds to arrival while in supercruise, decelerate until your throttle hits the blue zone, and keep decelerating until you're going as slow as possible while still being in the blue zone. This means that you'll stay around 7 to 8 seconds to arrival all the way until you're close enough to drop out, and you won't get caught in a gravity well and overshoot.

    Nice to see the gameplay on foot. I played 80 hours in VR with a HOTAS, did mining, trading, fighting and exploring, but in the last expansion so ship only. Was still one of the greatest VR experiences. Dropping out of a system jump and seeing a big sun was jaw dropping. I only stopped because it took way too much time to earn money for bigger ships and I didn't want it to be my life. Why do developers always go for "you have to play 1000 hours to have the best ship" in mmos? Isn't 50 hours already a high number today? We all have so much to do and so few time.
