    In this Place is such an unappreciated gem. If Chris Cornell didnt listen to this and get inspired, it would shock me.
    The 2nd Outake of Bridge of Sighs, good gawd, the second lead break slays the album version.
    If most box sets included this type of content , I'd have no problem buying.

      @@JIF882 Well it's not exactly chronological in terms of the logic used when record companies decide what gets reissued - who knows how exactly they decide this stuff - besides potential sales $'s. BTW BOS is the next album after Twice Removed, the album after For Earth Below is Long Misty Days.
      Twice Removed has already gotten the 50th Anniversary treatment (last year). Not as interesting as this one & only 2 disks, but disk 2 does have a longer studio version of "Ballerina" plus a couple of good live John Peel/BBC Session tracks ("Twice Removed From Yesterday" & "Daydream")

    The only Robin Trower album in the personal library for years and now another artist's anniversary edition to consider for the library. Really appreciate the inclusion of this boxed set in this week's new product episodes. The review doesn't make the decision any easier as trying to use CD funds for albums not in the library. This may yet become one of the exceptions to that rule. Time to go watch Phil Aston's review and discussion so appreciate your mentioning that as well. Thanks, Pete, once again for the variety of the weekly new product episodes.

    I've always preferred Robin's 1st two albums to his later releases. It took me awhile, but I finally realized the reason is Reg Isadore. Bill Lordan is probably the superior drummer, chops-wise, but I think Reg's simpler style better suited Robin's music.

    I never knew that Robin Trower and Robert Fripp knew each other.

    • @user-qq4ev6il2r
      @user-qq4ev6il2r Месяц назад +2

      Robert Fripp showed Robin some finger exercises in his Procol Harum days, sensing a major talent was about to emerge, and when King Crimson and the Trower band were on tour in the U.S. in '74 he observed how Robin blew the audiences minds with the way he put maximum expression into every note he played. Robin then showed him his approach and Fripp returned to England after the tour and recorded "Red", which features his own take on that approach on tracks like "One More Red Nightmare" and "Starless".

    • @wolf1977
      @wolf1977 Месяц назад

      Check out the WIX site for some Fripp/Trower pix & stories...A quote from Fripp: "Robin Trower is one of the very few English guitarists that have mastered bends and wobbles. Not only has he got inside them, with an instinctive knowing of their affective power, but they went to live inside his hands. It is the rare English guitarist who has been able to stand alongside American guitarists and play with an equal authority to someone grounded in a fundamentally American tradition.
      Trower has been widely criticised for his influences. This has never bothered me. I toured America in 1974 with Ten Years After top of the bill, King Crimson second, and Robin Trower bottom. The chart positions were the opposite: TYA in the Billboard 160s, Crimson in the 60s and Trower climbing remorselessly through the top twenty. Nearly every night I went out to listen to him. This was a man who hung himself on the details: the quality of sound, nuances of each inflection and tearing bend, and abandonment to the feel of the moment. He saved my life. Later, in England, he gave me guitar lessons."
      Robert Fripp, Wiltshire, England, 19 November 1996.

    Trower recently canceled his latest tour due to upcoming "major surgery". Oh boy! Love the extended tracks on disk 2 (as Pete says this is the reason to buy this), plus a couple of the live numbers on disk 3 (especially "Day Of The Eagle" - I actually like the live version of "Twice Removed" from State To State: Live Across America 1974-80 more). Don't have the BD, only the music on the cd's. I think this is a nice package, especially if you don't already own that live stuff on the 3rd disk & those fabulous extended versions.
    To me the original album sounds good enough to basically skip disk 1/the remastered original album. I already have the 2007 reissue of Bridge (which was also a remaster), with bonus John Peel BBC session tracks added. More live stuff would've been cool but this is a nice set for Trower fans

    My own review was a little more mixed. 5/5 content and a 2.5/5 presentation. The discs’ mastering is crushed to high heaven and I don’t like the alternate Bridge of Sighs take on the stereo remix. The choices on this set are rather baffling to me, even down to the cheap packaging. The best thing for me in this set was the bluray which has good mastering - and the Atmos mix … 5.1 mix is a little underwhelming. I could toss the CDs and save $30. YMMV !
