    My favourite guitarist and had the pleasure of meeting him a few times as he used to live in the next town. Very humble man. At present he is struggling with health issues so wish him a full and speedy recovery.

      I've heard recently about his health issues. I do hope and pray he recovers. It's amazing he was out there performing until just recently, and the videos of those late shows show he still is the best. Many think he's been playing better than ever.

    Great review Scott! Your love for this album is palpable! Just got around to listening to the 2024 stereo remaster off the BluRay, and without a direct A/B it handily bests my early US vinyl from memory. Less hazy, a layer (or two) removed. Then I put on the Atmos version and “In This Place” gave me chills as the hair rose on my arms! I’m not even properly set up for Atmos. Looks like the remaster is streaming (tracks 1-8 of the 44 track 50th) at Amazon, so likely everywhere. Enjoy! Love to hear your impressions of the 2024 remaster. I have yet to find a UK OG in condition I’m happy with, and haven’t heard it for comparison.

      Great I will check it out. I wish they had followed the template of the first 50th and given vinyl fans the new remaster rather than this remix. The remix would be a good extra for the box set. I'll let you know what I think of the remaster when I get a chance to hear it.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Thank you for watching. If you don't have the original mix, you've got to get that first. Doesn't have to be a rare UK, maybe try the one I mention in the description. It's the 2014. Affordable and very enjoyable. If after that you feel you want a different take on it, this would be a second step. Even for hardcore fans such as myself, this remix will be an occasional listen. Original mix is essential.

    Very thorough review Scott. I was thinking about buying this release, but I'm having doubts. I'm not against a few tweaks here and there to a classic album, but it appears that too many liberties were taken. I may still pick it up, but I'll keep my expectations in check.
    I ordered Mott the Hoople's All the Young Dudes 50th anniversary record (coming out soon). I hope it's the record I remember!
    As always, I enjoy your eclectic but always interesting reviews Scott!

      Hi Paul,
      Thanks for your reply! I do think this is something that while interesting, would be something you might want to stream before getting the vinyl. The packaging is well done for the price, pressings are very good.
      I just think they made a misstep putting the remix here - I think it would be a good addition to the box set and a remaster for the original album on the vinyl, to join the live set.
      Bottom line is the original mix is still the king!

    Scott, When will they ever learn, I grew up with this as well, concert for this Album tour 74/75 was excellent! Now I'm bummed waiting for my copy, I also understood it to be a remaster that we waited 50 years for and the live stuff? That is the signature of the Album cohesiveness with soundscapes bringing you to a place, transition to BOS is spookiness of ending your freedom crossing the bridge, love James vocal also and the wind sounds are last sounds of freedom. Why do they think others can improve on masterpiece. Me too! Keep the EX reviews coming.

    • @ThePressingMatters
      @ThePressingMatters  Месяц назад

      I know, I just don't think whoever is handling his catalog is making the best decisions. Don't be bummed though, you'll certainly find it interesting as a big fan. But yes it was a big missed opportunity. You'll absolutely adore In This Place. Being a fan of Jimmy, you can't help but marvel over his singing here. It's clearer and so expressive. This is one of the many things I think you'll love. But for sure you're going to miss the dreamy feeling on Bridge of Sighs. It's amazing how much those production touches elevated what was already a majestic track. It still is gorgeous but more straitforward. I'll be returning to it and hopefully can learn to appreciate the things it does offer. Will love to hear back from you with your thoughts on it.

    I bought the CD/Blu Ray version because it has both a remaster and a remix (and an atmos mix on blu ray if that matters) with the live album. Haven't received yet but I have an original 1974 album and the MoFi gold disc so I figured I'm covered. Maybe the intent was the box instead of the vinyl.

    • @ThePressingMatters
      @ThePressingMatters  Месяц назад

      Hi Brian,
      I hadn't looked into the box set but I wonder when the remaster of the original mix was done. I would have preferred the vinyl version to be a 2024 remaster and the live disc. Save the remix for box set fans. Alas it wasn't meant to be.
      Love to hear back from you once you've heard the box set

    I got both the LP and CD versions. Still working on the CD set.
    Yes, the sudden endings are jarring at first, but that's how he recorded them because for some damn reason they ALWAYS faded his songs, especially when he started slaying guitar solos.
    That's always been my gripe about his albums.
    So it's because of this we never heard a written ending.
    You had to see him live for that.
    I love the extended soloing here, especially Fool And Me and Little Bit Of Sympathy.
    Overall it's not a bad celebration of this work.
    As a lifelong fan, who has every single album he has recorded, this is one that irks me as the only thing anyone talks about. I scream that he has a wealth of amazing music, even his latest with Sari Schorr.
    Never miss his tours. Have met him numerous times, and had tickets for his upcoming tour that has been canceled due to his health.
    May this legendary artist get well soon and be back on the road, where he loves to be. 🙏

      Thank you for this wonderful comment. I too got to see the band, only once, and it was mesmerizing. It must have been around Long Misty Days or thereabouts.
      I too love all his work, mostly from the era with Dewar, but there are so many treasures beyond Bridge of Sighs. I do like this remix with minor reservations. Any Trower is good Trower in my book.
      Hope he is well soon!

    • @ThePressingMatters
      @ThePressingMatters  Месяц назад

      Absolutely no voice like Jimmy, it's really incredible what power it has over me. I've never been so fascinated with a vocalist in my life.
      It's great to hear this music any way it's presented, but I would stream this carefully if it all interested. It may be all you need for the remix.
      Nothing though replaces the magic of the original.
      If a UHQR was done by Grundman (or someone of that caliber) of the original mix, I'd be first in line.

    Hi Scott.Fantastic album and one I’d have been buying if I’d not recently bought the 50th anniversary of Twice Removed From Yesterday. I had high expectations of that but I was slightly disappointed with it so I’ll stick with my UK original of Bridge Of Sighs which does sound great.

    • @ThePressingMatters
      @ThePressingMatters  Месяц назад +1

      I had the same reaction to Twice Removed 50th. Slightly disappointed. This one even more so, because of the choice to do a remix, which frankly doesn't enhance anything, just provides a stripped down alternate. Original mix is king here.

    I listened to sound samples before I decided not to buy it. Not criticizing the album at all, but for me I really wanted an excellent remaster of the original mix. I luckily have an original pressing from 1974 and is in great condition.

      These to me. Are the original mix before Fisher and Emerick added the fades , special sounds and just the magic of the original. Instead of being called a remix it should have been called. The original unedited mix. The vinyl has been mastered and re released on vinyl for years. So no real reason to have it released again with the complete live in studio. I love the original. But also loved this release as well.

    • @ThePressingMatters

    I bought this version hoping for a great pressing of one of my favorite albums. First off, my copy is far from a great pressing. The edge is mis-cut, there are several vinyl pit flaws due to the bad pressing, and there's two large scratches across some of my favorite songs. This mix is very questionable and very much not to my liking. The loss of bass and vocal levels make no sense to me! I fail to understand what the purpose of this undertaking actually is, unless it was to get avid RT fans to waste their money. I tried to trade in or sell my copy to my local record store and they wouldn't even buy it due to the flaws.

    • @ThePressingMatters

      Hi Rick,
      What a shame that this series is getting such a lack of care both in the physical production and the bizarre musical considerations. My copy was ok, hardly a great pressing but serviceable. It's just beyond me that anyone signed off on this. For an album as important as this, it deserved so much more. The inexpensive, common original mix reissue is so much more enjoyable. Talk about a missed opportunity.
