My favorite is "Love It To Death". Second Coming, Dwight Fry, and Sun Arise as a trilogy is GENIUS! The best of Alice Cooper in three tracks, right there. The guitar work is on point. The songwriting... Killer stuff.
The Guitologist You are right. Love It To Death is the best AC Group album. Caught In A Dream, Is It My Body, I’m 18, Long Way To Go, Ballad Of Dwight Fry all great tunes. The album cover is cool as hell too!
I actually enjoy the second side of that album a lot more than the first; "Black Juju" is a bit of a stretch, which is why I rank KILLER No. 1. Those last three songs on LOVE IT TO DEATH are killer, however.
I've always liked DaDa too. 1) Billion Dollar Babies 2) Love It To Death 3) Muscle Of Love 4) From The Inside 5) DaDa. I like some of the tracks from Nightmare but it's never really gripped me.
@@JCStorm76 funny thing is, long time ago I too thought it was a boring waste of time. I was a fan of Alice's early albums. I was aware of his weird new wave era and listened to Dada once ot twice, just for a laugh. As years went by, I became a fan of 80's gothic rock and synthpop, and I rediscovered Dada. It's not a rock album, but more like a post punk of goth rock sort of thing, and it is a very fascinating piece of work, especially conceding what he went through at the time. I agree that it is a very strange album and it was marketed in a wrong way, but it's not boring!
Dada is a great album, but I do have one issue with it; I really don't like flag waving "Murrica!" type songs, & it doesn't get any more blatant than "I Love America". Cool tune w/ great humour, but the premise kinda kills it for me.

I just love seeing people talk about loving Alice Cooper. He’s been the soundtrack to my life since I was 12 in 1973. I listened to all those other bands you mentioned too, but I was really the only one out of all my friends that listed to Alice with the same fervor. He stands alone in my book.
That is so cool, I started listening to Alice when I was about 12 in 1996. For me my "alice Cooper" is Marilyn Manson. I actually got into Alice when I started seeing the parallels between the two artist. What ever your feelings about Manson are, with out Manson it's likely I would not have been a fan

Dada is a fantastic album! Dick Wagner’s solo on « Pass the Gun around » is absolutely beautiful. « Former Lee Warner » and « Scarlet and Sheba » are great songs too.
"From the Inside" is an amazing record. Lyrically, it's brilliant. It's in my top five with Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare, Killer, and School's Out. (no particular order)
Dada is the most underappreciated album in his discography. And Pass The Gun Around is one of the best AC songs ever. Scary because here he speaks about himself.
There's a lot of cool cuts on that record. "Leather Boots" and "Pain" are two of my favorites. Background vocals by Flo and Eddie are perfect; too bad they only worked on that one LP.
For nostalgic reasons, I will always choose “School’s Out”. When I hear “Luney Tune” and “Gutter Cat”, I’m 12 years old again. It really takes me back to 1974, when I first became an Alice Cooper Group fan. “Love it to Death” comes in at second place, because I’ve always loved that album. “Billion Dollar Babies” is probably their best - a tour de force!

I heard "Dada" on the day I stopped my alcohol addiction and I pinned the lines "I`ve had so many blackout nights before, I don´t think I can take this anymore" (of "Pass the Gun around") on my door, so I can read it every morning. It reminds me of my drinking time and helps me to stay clean.
Good calls! For me it's Killer even despite all that octane on BDB. "Killer" is a work of art. For anyone who can't manage to hear all of Killer, at least hear "Desperado" before you die - no, not an Eagles song :) :)
Agreed. "Killer" is one of the better releases of the 1970s. Alice had a few amazing releases in the 70s - Killer, Billion Dollar Babies, and Welcome To My Nightmare are my fave three. Saw Cooper LIVE during the Welcome to my Nightmare tour. Loved Cooper. Always at the top of my list for fave acts of all time.
Agree on that for sure. I think Killers is one of the best hard rock albums ever ,produced in my home town of Toronto by the Amazing Bob Ezrin. Love it !

Saw the vid for "How You Gonna See Me Now?" on some late night show when I was s'posed to be in bed for school around the same time Alice was on the Muppets. Instantly loved the tune & when I finally found the album several years later it immediately became (& has remained) one of my all time favorite albums

And my 2nd favourite album cover of all time) I'm surprised you didn't mention Big Apple Dreamin' off of Muscle of Love, seeing as you're a New Yorker. I personally think DaDa is really interesting. It's funny that even though he wasn't trying to be scary (which in itself is weird) it ended up being his creepiest album! I totally understand why it's not one of your favourites though. I owe a lot to Constrictor since it was the album to introduce me to Alice Cooper, or more accurately the Man Behind the Mask. I'm a huge horror fan, and Friday the 13th Part 6 is one of my favourite installments of that series, and I dug the theme song.

I have been a Coop fan since 72 and my very first lp ever purchased....Killer which I bought in the summer of 73 at the age of 12. My top 5 are the exact same as yours! Killer is super heavy acid rock and not overproduced like Schools Out. Have always loved Muscle of Love, great guitar by Wagner and Hunter. Saw Welcome To My Nightmare in the theater in 76!

Cole Rieger back in the day, before MTV, the internet and instant media. All you had were a few magazines (Creem,Hit Parader etc...) with pictures and an interview. Back then all you had was the album. You studied the pictures and whatever other “goodies” were included. That was it !! I also loved ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ which also had a lot of artwork and goodies in the album cover ... in the late 70’s The Coop kinda sold out to Hollywood and he wasn’t the same as he was in, say, ‘73... I must admit after that album I stopped listening to him until the late 80’s. He lost his edge. I saw him last summer and it’s like I was 16 again... just remember, “Long live the Coop”
At 58 i still have a warm fuzzy evil spot in my heart for Alice. My first concert was in 75' at the Oakland collesium. The Babys were the opening act. I remember Alice bouncing around on stage for a good 2 hours. Best 8 bucks i ever spent!

I loved a lot of different bands in the 70s - The Stones, Kiss, Cheap Trick, Queen, The Tubes, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Max Webster, etc. But my BIG TWO were always Zeppelin and Alice. Was lucky enough to see both live.
Max Webster? I had to go look them up, never heard of them, and I was a buyer in record stores in the 70's and 80's so I thought I had heard of just about everybody, especially prog rock. It's interesting that we didn't hear it on the radio, because I'm in Cleveland and we had WMMS... at that time a hugely influential and well respected prog / album rock station that broke Rush in the US, another Canadian band. We were all huge Rush fans here :) but missed Max Webster, I guess.
@@lindadriscoll7386 Max Webster never hit like Rush did, but they had a pretty good following up there. Great musicianship in all areas and a fun band to see live...which I did. If you had to look up and listen to ONE Max Webster album, I would suggest "High Class In Borrowed Shoes". Kim Mitchell went out and did some pretty good solo work in the 80s (radio friendly), but imo he was never better than when he fronted Max Webster. "High Class.." I would vote as one of the best Canadian releases of the 1970s. I was in a band in the 70s that played a few Max Webster tunes...that helped me garner much move for this obscure Canuck band.

The Alice character nutures a young boy, to obey his parents, study hard in school, don't drink alcohol or partake in drugs, and ultimately believe by faith alone in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Chris Cornell, Tommy Shaw and others contributed to this masterpiece.
“Raise your fist and yell” has very special meaning for me; first concert with Motörhead back in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Love the comeback metal years with Kane “women in the edge of love” Roberts.
Alice Cooper is a True artist & he's still making great music. My fave Alice is the New Wave Alice, Flush The Fashion/ Special Forces/Zipper Catches Skin era. Some really great songs and lyrics on those albums.
Great list Pete... I'm hitting myself over the head having not really gotten into the Kinks before now. You know all the hits but they've done great albums too.
I was at my dad's friend's house having a get-together that lasted until the early hours if the morning almost twenty years ago and he was playing alot if good albums and he played one that I'd not heard before. That album happened to be "The Last Temptation" by Alice Cooper. I was shocked at how good it was. It had a coherent concept and the music flowed really well throughout. Bob Ezrin did an excellent job producing this one.
Thanks for these "List" videos Pete, bring back great memories. In 1974, my brother was away at college. Home one weekend, while helping him wash his VW bug, he slapped B$B into his 8-track. I spent the entire weekend sitting in that car, playing over and over. 12 yrs old and hooked on Alice. It'll be another 12yrs before I saw him live on the '86 Constrictor tour for the first of many AC shows.
I think I have six albums of his, I just started listening to him more about a year ago. But my favorite one that I do have is From the Inside. I think he said he has absolutely no memory making the early 80's albums.

never even tried DaDa until reading all of these positive comments and I loved it. I'd heard a couple of songs from the collection album he put out but didn't know he did more New Wave after Flush the Fashion '80, which I've always had a soft spot for. So thanks to all of you.

I suppose it’s when I grew up but my favorite Alice was later years. The 1st album I heard was Raise Your Fist and Yell and I was hooked from that point on. Hey Stoopid is still my favorite album from any artist.

If you're new to him, your best bet is to pick an album based on whichever sleeve/cover 'speaks' to you personally, as they tend (more often than not) to reflect the nature of the accompanying music.
I thought The eyes of Alice Cooper was a very underrated album, some great songs on it, What do you want from me,Novocaine, This place is haunted. In my humble estimation, a very good album.
The Last Temptation is highly underrated, and rest in peace, Chris Cornell. As for Cooper's ballads, this record's "It's Me" is a personal favorite. I really appreciate Welcome To My Nightmare and love the Drew Struzan (Back To The Future 1-3, John Carpenter's The Thing) art.

Schools Out check out My Stars, my favorite song on the album 7.The Last Temptation. My favorite album of 94 8. Flush the Fashion. Was shocked when this came out by the new wave sound but it grew on me. 9. Dada- I love America is one of his best tunes 10. Eyes of Alice Cooper. my favorite of the last 20 years 11.Goes to Hell- Good stuff, album too short 12. Welcome 2 my Nightmare- I was surprised how much I liked this 13. It’s a testament to the amount of musical ground that Alice has covered throughout his career that many of your bottom choices are actually my favorites !
I have been a huge fan of Alice Cooper since I was 14, and still enjoy most of his albums absolutely not getting tired of listening to them. My personal preference for each album always depends purely on the mood I am in. So my personal ranking can change from mood to mood :) I truly believe that Coop is one of most underrated rock musicians. And he just keeps proving his profuse talent and potential.
It's too hard to set a definitive ranking to Alice's albums, but many of my Top Third fell quite low in your list... Dada, Flush, & Forces get a lot of airplay here, & Inside is definitely Top 3. One other thing is that while I don't dispute Nightmare being a great album, I give it bassically the same status as you gave Paranoid on yr Sabbath list... I love it, but I don't need to play it anymore. For my own discography request, I'd like to hear yr take on Iced Earth. Thanks, & keep up the great work

I Debbie Harry had sung “You Look Good In Rags” from Special Forces it would have been a hit. I think it’s a hidden gem from Alice that he probably doesn’t remember recording.

What I love about Alice is? The Goes to Hell album, even though the tour was cancelled, I can listen to it as it tells a story and picture in my head what he would be doing on stage. Same with From the Inside, to Welcome to my Nightmare. Alice was more than just a Rock singer, he was a showman, and story teller. Since Goes to Hell was my first Alice album, its always been my favorite. My opinion, so GIVE THE KID A BREAK. To my rehab when From The Inside helped me realize? WERE ALL CRAZY. So top 3 Goes to hell, From the Inside, Welcome to my Nightmare, and I dont feel GUILTY at all. And im SERIOUS.

I was late for the alice Cooper train myself. I had stuff by him, but wasn't obsessed till I heard him on Rockline radio show in 1994, promoting the Last Temptation. I went back and got the older ones on used vinyl. I tend to like his newer ones, because those are the ones I bought new and played to death. My fave of all-time is Dirty Diamonds, I could play it 24/7. YES, replace that raggedy copy lol
Alice personally confirmed to me that the songs on "From the inside" were in fact written about people he met while drying out in Bellevue psyche ward (there were no rehab clinics back then). Millie and Billy were straight laced kids that came off as very normal "kids next door" types. How you gonna see me now was written about him for his wife, who had never actually seen him sober. What a great album!

I just saw Alice live - he’s still got it at 72, rocking out like nobody’s business.
I havent had the pleasure but a few buddies have seen him in the last 5 years and everyone was blown away
He's great in concert and a nice guy. Met him once at a concert. Would have loved to have seen him with original lineup. Check out footage of early days on RUclips if you haven't. 🙂

Dada is a fantastic album! Dick Wagner’s solo on « Pass the Gun around » is absolutely beautiful. « Former Lee Warner » and « Scarlet and Sheba » are great songs too.

'Killer', 'Love it to Death', 'Schools Out', and 'Billion Dollar Babies' are their best IMHO. The original lineup was great.
"From the Inside" is an amazing record. Lyrically, it's brilliant. It's in my top five with Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare, Killer, and School's Out. (no particular order)
DaDa is a really cool and interesting album. I always liked how Alice Cooper has very different sounding albums.
Dada is the most underappreciated album in his discography. And Pass The Gun Around is one of the best AC songs ever. Scary because here he speaks about himself.
I loved “Flush the Fashion” back in the day. In fact “Clones (we’re all) is one of my favorite songs by Lice. Just my meaningless opinion...rock on😎
Besides "Killer" the late 70s/early 80s albums are my favorites.
There's a lot of cool cuts on that record. "Leather Boots" and "Pain" are two of my favorites. Background vocals by Flo and Eddie are perfect; too bad they only worked on that one LP.
Clones is on my list of top songs as well.
For nostalgic reasons, I will always choose “School’s Out”. When I hear “Luney Tune” and “Gutter Cat”, I’m 12 years old again. It really takes me back to 1974, when I first became an Alice Cooper Group fan. “Love it to Death” comes in at second place, because I’ve always loved that album. “Billion Dollar Babies” is probably their best - a tour de force!

I heard "Dada" on the day I stopped my alcohol addiction and I pinned the lines "I`ve had so many blackout nights before, I don´t think I can take this anymore" (of "Pass the Gun around") on my door, so I can read it every morning. It reminds me of my drinking time and helps me to stay clean.

Agreed. "Killer" is one of the better releases of the 1970s. Alice had a few amazing releases in the 70s - Killer, Billion Dollar Babies, and Welcome To My Nightmare are my fave three. Saw Cooper LIVE during the Welcome to my Nightmare tour. Loved Cooper. Always at the top of my list for fave acts of all time.

I personally think DaDa is really interesting. It's funny that even though he wasn't trying to be scary (which in itself is weird) it ended up being his creepiest album! I totally understand why it's not one of your favourites though.
I owe a lot to Constrictor since it was the album to introduce me to Alice Cooper, or more accurately the Man Behind the Mask. I'm a huge horror fan, and Friday the 13th Part 6 is one of my favourite installments of that series, and I dug the theme song.

I have been a Coop fan since 72 and my very first lp ever purchased....Killer which I bought in the summer of 73 at the age of 12. My top 5 are the exact same as yours! Killer is super heavy acid rock and not overproduced like Schools Out. Have always loved Muscle of Love, great guitar by Wagner and Hunter. Saw Welcome To My Nightmare in the theater in 76!

My #1, maybe because my dad has the album with all the fold out stuff, was so cool to go through while listening to the album.
Cole Rieger back in the day, before MTV, the internet and instant media. All you had were a few magazines (Creem,Hit Parader etc...) with pictures and an interview. Back then all you had was the album. You studied the pictures and whatever other “goodies” were included. That was it !! I also loved ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ which also had a lot of artwork and goodies in the album cover ... in the late 70’s The Coop kinda sold out to Hollywood and he wasn’t the same as he was in, say, ‘73... I must admit after that album I stopped listening to him until the late 80’s. He lost his edge. I saw him last summer and it’s like I was 16 again... just remember, “Long live the Coop”
At 58 i still have a warm fuzzy evil spot in my heart for Alice. My first concert was in 75' at the Oakland collesium. The Babys were the opening act. I remember Alice bouncing around on stage for a good 2 hours. Best 8 bucks i ever spent!
The Babys opening for Alice? Lolol.... that must have been one weird show. Those two bands don't seem like they belong on the same bill.

I loved a lot of different bands in the 70s - The Stones, Kiss, Cheap Trick, Queen, The Tubes, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Max Webster, etc. But my BIG TWO were always Zeppelin and Alice. Was lucky enough to see both live.
Max Webster? I had to go look them up, never heard of them, and I was a buyer in record stores in the 70's and 80's so I thought I had heard of just about everybody, especially prog rock. It's interesting that we didn't hear it on the radio, because I'm in Cleveland and we had WMMS... at that time a hugely influential and well respected prog / album rock station that broke Rush in the US, another Canadian band. We were all huge Rush fans here :) but missed Max Webster, I guess.
@@lindadriscoll7386 Max Webster never hit like Rush did, but they had a pretty good following up there. Great musicianship in all areas and a fun band to see live...which I did. If you had to look up and listen to ONE Max Webster album, I would suggest "High Class In Borrowed Shoes". Kim Mitchell went out and did some pretty good solo work in the 80s (radio friendly), but imo he was never better than when he fronted Max Webster. "High Class.." I would vote as one of the best Canadian releases of the 1970s.
I was in a band in the 70s that played a few Max Webster tunes...that helped me garner much move for this obscure Canuck band.
I'd say top three are Go To Hell, From the Inside, Welcome to My Nightmare.

Like others have noted, Muscle Of Love is wildly underrated. I was 11 in 1973 when it came out and it was pivotal moment in my music listening life. Top of the heap for me.

@@frankiecommisso48 the original CD of Last Temptation came with a comic book. Book 1 it was called. You could buy Book 2 and 3. The Alice character nutures a young boy, to obey his parents, study hard in school, don't drink alcohol or partake in drugs, and ultimately believe by faith alone in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Chris Cornell, Tommy Shaw and others contributed to this masterpiece.

Alice Cooper is a True artist & he's still making great music. My fave Alice is the New Wave Alice, Flush The Fashion/ Special Forces/Zipper Catches Skin era. Some really great songs and lyrics on those albums.

Great list Pete... I'm hitting myself over the head having not really gotten into the Kinks before now. You know all the hits but they've done great albums too.
I was at my dad's friend's house having a get-together that lasted until the early hours if the morning almost twenty years ago and he was playing alot if good albums and he played one that I'd not heard before. That album happened to be "The Last Temptation" by Alice Cooper. I was shocked at how good it was. It had a coherent concept and the music flowed really well throughout. Bob Ezrin did an excellent job producing this one.

Thanks for these "List" videos Pete, bring back great memories. In 1974, my brother was away at college. Home one weekend, while helping him wash his VW bug, he slapped B$B into his 8-track. I spent the entire weekend sitting in that car, playing over and over. 12 yrs old and hooked on Alice. It'll be another 12yrs before I saw him live on the '86 Constrictor tour for the first of many AC shows.
I think I have six albums of his, I just started listening to him more about a year ago. But my favorite one that I do have is From the Inside. I think he said he has absolutely no memory making the early 80's albums.

never even tried DaDa until reading all of these positive comments and I loved it. I'd heard a couple of songs from the collection album he put out but didn't know he did more New Wave after Flush the Fashion '80, which I've always had a soft spot for. So thanks to all of you.

Depending on what one wants from an Alice Cooper album at any given time, it's fair to say most fans' favourites will chop and change according to mood.
If you're new to him, your best bet is to pick an album based on whichever sleeve/cover 'speaks' to you personally, as they tend (more often than not) to reflect the nature of the accompanying music.

The Last Temptation is highly underrated, and rest in peace, Chris Cornell. As for Cooper's ballads, this record's "It's Me" is a personal favorite.

Great ranking of Vincent's albums, I personally put Flush the Fashion, Special Forces, and Zipper Catches Skin at #6, #7 and #8 respectively.
My 2 favorite albums are 'Brutal Planet' and 'Dragontown'. Killer, killer albums. I love that Cooper brought the HEAVY to those albums.
I have been a huge fan of Alice Cooper since I was 14, and still enjoy most of his albums absolutely not getting tired of listening to them.
My personal preference for each album always depends purely on the mood I am in. So my personal ranking can change from mood to mood :)
I truly believe that Coop is one of most underrated rock musicians. And he just keeps proving his profuse talent and potential.
It seems to me that early Alice, circa 1969, was an amalgam of Pink Floyd's spaciness and the scary side of The Doors.

It's too hard to set a definitive ranking to Alice's albums, but many of my Top Third fell quite low in your list... Dada, Flush, & Forces get a lot of airplay here, & Inside is definitely Top 3. One other thing is that while I don't dispute Nightmare being a great album, I give it bassically the same status as you gave Paranoid on yr Sabbath list... I love it, but I don't need to play it anymore.

What I love about Alice is? The Goes to Hell album, even though the tour was cancelled, I can listen to it as it tells a story and picture in my head what he would be doing on stage. Same with From the Inside, to Welcome to my Nightmare. Alice was more than just a Rock singer, he was a showman, and story teller. Since Goes to Hell was my first Alice album, its always been my favorite. My opinion, so GIVE THE KID A BREAK. To my rehab when From The Inside helped me realize? WERE ALL CRAZY. So top 3 Goes to hell, From the Inside, Welcome to my Nightmare, and I dont feel GUILTY at all. And im SERIOUS.

So is "Fresh Blood" and "No Man's Land". Definitely not bottom of the barrel Alice Cooper. I think Pete needs to revisit this album.....

Flush The Fashion is an incredibly underrated New Wave album. It sounds great on Vinyl.

I was late for the alice Cooper train myself. I had stuff by him, but wasn't obsessed till I heard him on Rockline radio show in 1994, promoting the Last Temptation. I went back and got the older ones on used vinyl. I tend to like his newer ones, because those are the ones I bought new and played to death. My fave of all-time is Dirty Diamonds, I could play it 24/7. YES, replace that raggedy copy lol

Alice personally confirmed to me that the songs on "From the inside" were in fact written about people he met while drying out in Bellevue psyche ward (there were no rehab clinics back then). Millie and Billy were straight laced kids that came off as very normal "kids next door" types. How you gonna see me now was written about him for his wife, who had never actually seen him sober. What a great album!
the synthesized backing vocals have aged so badly I can't listen to the album at all. It's a shame since the songs are great.
