“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
My favorite line in this Kenny Rogers song has always been .... you could have heard a pin drop when he stopped and locked the door.
There's an old saying: "Beware the wrath of a patient man."
"You dont have to fight to BE a man" then its "sometimes you gotta fight WHEN you're a man" i love his word play
ive been listining to this song for 45 years, and I STILL tear up every time (6'3", 230 Lbs ex kick-boxer)
Tommy: "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"
Randy Travis - Three Wooden Crosses
But remember, he didn't fight for himself or his pride. He fought to protect/avenge his love.
Taking his father's advice is why he had been so quiet all these years- he was honoring his father - they thought he was just a coward .Becky was the final straw - everyone has a breaking point
Remember, Tommy was only 10 when his father died in prison. It's highly unlikely that his dad took any kind of rap for hisvery young son.
"They're leading you to, what I believe, is gonna be scorched earth" LMFAO!
He said walk away from trouble “IF” you can.
"He was only ten years old when his daddy died in prison" should have been a clue that his dad made bad choices and didn't cover for his innocent son. Uncle Kenny knew Tommy was not a coward.
My stepdad was Kenny's personal pilot back in the day, he spoke highly of him.
Fitting this pops up on recommended today. RIP Kenny Rogers.
I’ve always loved Kenny Rogers’ story telling. Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town is another great one by him. It’s very depressing but still beautifully told.
Holy shit I never listened to this before. Someone cutting onions in here. That's a rough song.
Consider this....he was fighting for Becky's honor. He turned the other cheek for 20 years when people walked on him. But when they walked on her, he wasnt having it.
"Beware the fury of a patient man." - John Dryden
They made movies out of the Gambler and Coward of the county. That's how good the story's are.
