Fun fact: at 5:19 when explaining that the Sony Computer Entertainment headquarters were on Tokyo R246, I deliberately illustrated it on lap 93 because SCE was founded in 1993, just a fun Easter Egg you might not have noticed. Thanks for the 100K views ladies and gentlemen...

Ohh yeah, nice one there. Unfortunately the PAL version is less polished. As you were going through the race menus, there were mistakes right? Well the western version has those problems fixed.
However I don’t like how the western version is only Imperial and not Metric. I live in Canada so that’s what I’m most familiar with. When it comes to miles as in speed, I understand it pretty well, but miles as in distance feels like trying to teach a chimp how to use a cell phone. Kilometres in distance is what I know better.

I remember the first License Test. Just...uuuuuugh. C’moooooonnn, GOOOOOOO!!! Then you had to do it AGAIN with a Dodge Viper. I little faster, so not as bad, but still...I get that a very basic test is a forgiving start for beginner players, but at least give us a bigger time limit for Gold. With the Volkswagon Beetle, I can barely get Bronze. With the Dodge Viper I can barely get Silver.

      1. Sound effects are louder
      2. I like to play racing games with no music, just to listen the car's engine or because music doesn't sound like it's on the car's radio and idk but i don't feel like it's normal.

Man, even today, being much older, I still get the same sense of awe and amazement I got when I was little playing this. It' like I forget everything I've learned or figured out since then, and I'm teleported back to playing that game, imagining it was real, feeling as if I was in the game world, even in the menus, and being so young that I thought I actually was. There are other games that make me feel this ways well, but GT3 was my first video game, and over the years had turned into an experience like no other. EL GRANDE MEMELORD Because time costs money. Furthermore, being a launch title is a huuuuge boost to sales, especially before the mass migration to PC that is happening now. GT3 was sort of the flashy prototype to GT4, but note that GT4 didn't come out until 2005 (in the US at least) and PS3 launched in 2006. Had Sony/Poloyphony waited and only released GT4 (calling it GT3, naturally), they would've missed out on a ton of sales over the life of the system, not to mention being a Sony company meant they wanted the game to sell systems early on as well. I'm glad we got GT3 and GT4, while GT4 is more comprehensive and has better force feedback wheel support (first to support 900 degree rotation), GT3 is somehow better looking and plays much better with a controller in my opinion. In fact, it might be the best Gran Turismo to play with a standard controller.

      Yes, I also prefer GT2!
GT2 had about 650 cars, while GT3 had only 180…
Also there are cars and tracks from GT2 that unfortunately never came back again in the other GT games…
By far one of the best GT games + the intro! I love it!
Especially the european version with ''My Favorite Game (Faithless Remix)''
I think it fits so well to the intro! The way it flows along the intro…
      ;)
      Pure Nostalgia…
The US version has the original ''My Favorite Game'' song, which is still good,
and the japanese version has the ''Moon Over The Castle'' song, also really good!
...but I still prefer the european version, it's the best one! ;)
I still got the game and the PS1, which still works fine after all the years!
      Played GT2 yesterday haha ;)

I disagree. It is easier to gain money and I agree with that, but the rubberbanding is ridiculous sometimes. 3 and 4 dont have rubberbanding at all, they allow you to blast through with powerful cars or with weaker cars (especially on 4 with the A-Spec points. They only serve as a template for how difficult or easy a race will be, being 1 point a easy race and 200 a difficult one. Although it doesnt have any function, people still try to make gameplays and speedruns with max A-Spec points), the difficulty is very adjustable. Newer titles reintroduced rubberbanding, but not as awful as PS1 titles.

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf 5 лет назад

@@lordeilluminati I've never dealt with rubberbanding in Gran Turismo 2. Was that something that only happened in the PAL and Japanese versions of the game?

    • @lordeilluminati
      @lordeilluminati 5 лет назад

No, it had on all versions and even Kaz said how he had to use rubberbanding at the time to save processing power. The difference is that it is not extreme as Mario Kart or Need for Speed games.
On GT1 and 2, even if you tuned the cars to the max potential, all competitors would do the same, in contrast to GT 3 and 4 which allow the player to choose difficulty, making the races harder (stock) or easier (tuning). GT4 evolves this with A Spec points which you have a direct notion how difficult a race can be and even if these points dont serve any purpose, many people like to try to gain max A Spec points.

In a twisted way, other than Sport or a few specific tracks or time of day in 4,5, and 6, 3 looks graphically the most pretty with every car and every track shockingly, complete across the board beauty which sometimes doesn't apply to Gran Turismo, as he cited with all the absurd attention to detail, even more realistic overall at certain points, though the finer small details and some lighting improved drastically with future releases. Plus, I liked 3's quality over quantity-come on, do we really want all those junker and clone cars? There's a tiny bit too many in 3 already! Would you actually voluntarily drive more than 200 cars in your lifetime in the garage of your save data in the other Gran Turismo games? Granted, a few one-off normal, concept, or race cars from 1, 4, 5, 6 I'd miss and want, especially from 2, but at most, with all those back, 3's lineup would be increased to about 400 strong at most, which is much more realistic for how many cars we'd actually want to buy and drive.

My buddy and I were able to get a Logitech steering wheel prior to GT4 being released knowing that it would have 900 degree steering that isn’t available in GT3. It was so cool having a year on that wheel before the epic release of GT4 and hyper realistic driving. Gran Turismo was my introduction to Formula 1 as well. Once we got the F1 car in GT4 I started researching F1. This is the case for many Americans, we had shit knowledge of F1.

After playing NASCAR 2005 for a few months, I revisited GT3 to see if tactics such as the bump n' run were viable at Super Speedway. To my surprise, it works well. I even managed to send another car into a spin at turn 3 on two separate occasions, which is something I've never done in all my years of playing this game.

I remember as a kid being born in 01, my parents bought car games for me cause I was obsessed with cars and became the motor head I am today. But because I played this game, I fell in love with the Gran Turismo series. I didn’t get the first 2 but this game even after years of not playing it holds so close to my heart, I remember going up trial mountain with the red viper and scrape the diffuser going up the hill. I will forever love this game. Just so blessed to have played it and I’m glad the PS2 is still working. Time to find and buy that game 😭❤️

I still play my playstation 2 nowadays. I have quite the collection of PS2 games, all of the games have been completed at least twice. Then I found this weird-looking case that said "Gran Turismo 3". I gave it a try and wow was I amazed. The graphics were amazing, and it's from 2001! It's a long game, and definitley my favourite PS2 game in my library.

I personally think your argument of ‘they should’ve waited a year and added more cars and tracks’ makes sense however when you take into consideration how many copies they sold by releasing when it did it may never have achieved the same figures. Especially when many peoples first ps2 game was gt3 due to it being in a bundle that wouldn’t have been possible. Regardless great video

This game is still one of my all time favorites!
I remeber doing the endurance races, just for the roulette reward at the end.
The key was getting an f1 car and then dominating every race that you could enter said cars in. Those F1 completely destroyed every other car on asphalt.

This is still my favorite 'driving experience' Gran Turismo game. I don't know why they locked the camera to the back of the car so tight in GT4. Would love to see a video from you about the changes in each game in terms of camera position behind the car and how it tracks to each car.

Actually you're correct about the high speed ring being under construction. Someone emailed them to address this and they said that there was a landslide that destroyed part of the track, and that that's why there's a bridge in gt4's version.

I got this with a PS2 for christmas when I was about 12. Let me tell you about those graphics. All it took was to see flags blowing in the wind for me to say it was the best looking game ever. It was like what GT2 looked like when you thought about it in your head. simply nuts

  • @paulclynes9865

20 years on and it still looks great.
I don't know what GT's career modes are like now but Forza Motorsport's developers only need to look at this, GT4 or their own 3rd or 4th entries to see a great single player in a racing game is as simple as a truck load of events with good variety, not a few races in 1 car then being forced into another one, race suit collecting crap or 'Forzathons'.
Kind of amazing that the 2 biggest racing franchises on consoles both peaked at the exact same time, in their 3rd + 4th entries.

What really blew my mind about this game is that it features drafting.
I never knew that the game took real life aerodynamics to heart like that until I noticed I gained significantly higher speed behind other drivers.
There is something about competing in the Test Track Turbo challenges with a car that is equally powerful to the other cars and then use drafting at the perfect time in the final lap to slip past your opponent and cross the finish line in glory!
You can't slip past too early or he'll catch up again by using your own slipstream.
And you can't do it too late otherwise you won't make it past the finish line quickly enough!
The sensation of completing a race with almost pinpoint precision timing with drafting, and knowing that your cars are almost equally powerful is really satisfying in it's own way.

GT3 is my favorite game of all time that holds a special place in heart too. PS2 is my fav console of all time but before that it was the Dreamcast. My first year of owning a Dreamcast was better than the first of ps2 imo, but once I got GT3 a-spec, I knew everything was going to be ok. GT3 blew my 9 year old mind and I was already a car fanatic. The menus, graphics, handling model and choosing graphics (which are still amazing btw) and polish over sheer # of cars seals the deal for me. I love GT4 too and it may be objectively better, but I guess you had to be there when GT3 dropped.

Great review man! This was my first Gran Turismo. I was a baby when this first came out. Around when I was like 5, my dad and I use to race each other a lot. This sure is one of the best games on the PS2. I love how the GT series makes you feel like you're controlling a *real* car similar to the Forza series! I will be very honest, GT Sport is great, but it's not even close to being as great as 3. 3 has nothing but nostalgia written all over it.
    #GranTurismo3forever

You should rejoice in the 'small number of cars'. So there are not 20 versions of the Honda Civic/Del Sol/CRX or Mazda mx-5/Miata/Roadster, which bloated the first 2 games. This is a problem???
Other than this gripe, your review is great. Subscribed.
