About the DLC, there is a save editor from a few years back that allows you to modify your save via copying and pasting your save file to USB to the editor. The reason why GT5 looks weird is mostly due to the resolution being stretched. GT5 runs at 1280x1080, that's the same horizontal resolution as 720p so that's a lot of stretching to appear on a 16:9 display (1280 to 1920). If you run in 720p you also get better anti aliasing at x4 msaa vs 2x qaa. GT6 would be a little better at 1440x1080 which is the equivalent to 4:3 1080p, but that's still stretching which makes the game look bad. I personally prefer to run it at 720p for the benefit of the more stable frame rate.
Changing the ps3 resolution doesn’t affect frame rate, the internal resolution will still be 1080p but downscaled to 720p when selecting 720p. It will still run at 1080p regardless, unless you are talking about a resolution setting within the game and not the PS3’s XMB video settings.
@@juancorona3893 in GT5 changing resolution through the XMB does affect the internal resolution though. I think John from Digital Foundry said this in his 1080p games on the PS3 series
@@Ebvidur if that were the case, setting the resolution to 480p on the system should improve frame rates if the fps is not capped, but frame rates stay the same regardless of he resolution set. I know. Games don’t run at 1080p on the ps3, usually much lower, but 480p is still less work for the system that 720p and games that run at 720p still don’t run any better when setting the resolution on the ps3 to 480p. Game rendering on a video game console is different than a PC. If you have a ps3, give a game like RDR a shot at 1080p and 480p, game runs somewhere in between those res, yet the game will run exactly the same

@@mavericknizmo9182what are your favourite cars in GT5? For me i prefer all Super GT cars from 1997 to 2008 and Zonda R and Setsuna Yuki's Minolta 88C-V.
I went back and played GT5 before playing GT7. When GT5 came out, I was in the camp of people frustrated with PD for having the “standard” cars. Going back to the game, I appreciate the sheer variety of vehicles and oddball cars you can drive that are almost nonexistent in GT7. Sure they look terrible compared to their Premium counterparts, but it’s fun to have the ability to drive so many different vehicles from a Nissan Pao to JGTC and Group C LeMans cars.
Here is some advice for if you review GT6, if you turn on flicker reduction in the settings it enables better AA and engages v-sync. Same for gt5 I think.
Back in my University days, I had a GT Driving Force Pro set up on a little table with a make shift set up, and used to have a group of mates over a few days a week to play this game, complete the challenges and races, etc. Even the Vettel Red Bull challenge with the X2021 or whatever it was called, bonkers. A few of us worked together and practiced and we did a “party” to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A team of us rotated and drove, but a bunch of others came over and ate, drank, etc. GT5 holds a special place in my heart, what a game. Would love to go back to it, GT6 and 7 have been good, but just haven’t felt the same. Great review, cheers 😄
Everyone is playing the games ive been playing currently. Its nuts. I see people playing Ridge Racer 4... pro street... midnight club. This. Tokyo extreme racer... Hopefully the people making games take note.
Regarding the DLC: you can actually forcefully activate the DLC packages in your game with a save editor, all you need is a PC and a USB drive to export your saves on
This is going to be controversial take. I be ok having 243 premium car only but removing having standard car altogether . When GT3 came out they only have 180 cars right out the gate. it was significant massive cut from GT2 is due to PD team was using a new hardware of the PS2. In what if scenario I would tell kaz only have 243 cars in there, but added all cars turn into race modifications instead of some specific car, put more content like add coffee break, lot of challenges, and one make race. For Exp stuff if Kaz and his teams should have gone if you level up you get rewarded like cars, paint or maybe double credits, and plus remove that a player can’t buy a car based on level requirements. Just a wishful what if scenario thought.
Your comment about Herman Tilker is sooo on point! I heard some seasoned commenters on tv expressing disdain for Tilker's tracks, too. I agree. They're uninspired 😭 I hope future potential tracks skip over Tilker 🤞🏿 Rumour has it a new track is in the works to be built in Tennessee or some neighboring state and MotoGP and F1 are interested in racing there. (though F1 are already racing COTA, Miami, Vegas.) Since Liberty Media now own F1 and just purchased MotoGP this year, they're fully pressing to tap into the American market. Drive to Survive has reportedly rocketed the popularity of F1 in the US, as well. And MotoGP have been looking for another track to race at other than COTA for whatever reason).. they've wanted to go back to Laguna Seca(sp?) but the bikes are so fast now there's not adequate run-off --as stated by their governing bodies safety commission. ...but i digress, fck Tilker tracks
that grind was never so hard when the online events were running- they rewarded way bigger prize money. i wish the final update could gave just patched it to run all the previous online events in a rotating calendar. sigh.
I started playing this game a couple of weeks after launch and was hooked to it like a Florida crackhead with a crack pipe, made friends playing online and partook in some community organized leagues and overall I had an absolute blast with the game throughout its lifespan, was sad to see it shut down in 2014. Recently I got into it through RPCS3 and my god all the memories came flooding back like no time has passed, despite all the flaws it had (and it had A LOT OF THEM) this GT was the one that had the most impact on me and I'll fondly remember it.
There really isn't a 1000 cars as some are basically repeats of themselves, like there's like at least 3 S2000s that are all the same, just that one is the EU model, the US and JP model. But there is no difference in how they look or perform.
When he said over a thousand in the video, I thought he must either be talking about how many Honda Civics and IDENTICAL versions of Skylines there are on top of the few other cars they put in 🙂
Months back I jailbreaked my old ps3 just for this game. I then found a master mod for it. Downloaded, installed it and... And I had blast playing it! It added so much stuff. It even added all the dlc and even cars, tracks, events from the previous gts whuch is mindblowing!
Despite all the problems with Standard cars, the crappy UI, and the separate B-Spec, this is probably my second favorite GT game of all time. Great review Spenny!!
Great review as always! This was my very first, and at time of writing the only Gran Turismo game I've ever played, but I used to have fun with arcade mode and was amazed by the replay mode capturing my gameplay so well. Also, I love that you played "Soul On D!splay" in this review, that's easily my favourite song in GT5!
I still remember those days of praying for a Formula GT, historic racecar, and a DTM car to show up in the UCD in order to finish the career mode without forking over 20+million credits lol
Gran Turismo 5 even 14 years after release, its still a masterpiece despite the car sound for most of the 1118 cars sounded like food blender. I remember a lot that Maki Nishikino's TOYOTA GT ONE TS020 1999 and Ayumu Uehara's Sauber Mercedes C9 in GT5 both sounded like Honda 500cc 2 stroke bike...
What really brought down the experience for me (besides the stiff chase cam) is how they structured so much of this game around premium and standard cars. I can accept the concept as a technical necessity, but putting the standard cars all into the used car dealership where they aren't permanently available and even splitting the garage into those groups? It just sucks. They tried turning this limitation into a feature and it just made GT5 a worse game.
Great review, you should check out how standard cars looked before and after all patches are installed, they were much worse making it was very obvious that they were ported over from the PS2. Thankfully most standard vehicle textures were updated over time not only making them look better over time but some also receiving interiors.
I appreciate the video; it was entertaining, but I disagree with many things in it. I could explain some of your criticisms with logic, but it would end up being a wall of text, and I don't feel like writing it out right now.
i personally like the standard cars being here. it gives more visual variety, more stuff to look forward to getting, and the whole garage transfer from GT5 to GTPSP helps me in terms of progression in both.
I will always have a soft spot for GT5, driving model felt great and I lost countless hours playing online lobbies. Everything from NASCAR to drag lobbies grinding single player so I can play the different racing types.
I really hope some day we can have the multiplayer service back by some private server setup, would be cool to try it out as I was pretty young when it was still online.
GT4 is more nostalgic for me, but I cannot deny that I played the snot out of this game. I probably have the most game time out of any GT title on 5 (and probably any game for that matter). For the time this was released, I was extremely happy with the fact they had as many cars as they did. I loved the premium stuff, but was super appreciative of the fact they still added the standard cars. I wouldn’t mind if the newer gt did that for more cars. There’s so many cars that I miss not having anymore
I remember my first online race, was facing backwards in first place. Not the best but I had a ton of fun with this one. I've got about 1'000 photos taken on my ps3.
Great review :) I recently did a play through of GT5 and I forgot how much I loved it… until I got to level 25 and had finished the licenses, special events, and the best A-spec events then remembered at that point it really becomes the HUGE grind 😂
As a Platinum trophy hunter, adding two trophies to a game that requires "online" is criminal, especially when they shut the servers down, making the trophies unobtainable.
I am STILL, to this very day, not as good as I used to be when using the internal cam, because this game traumatised me with them interiors redacted like they were a CIA file and I spent SO LONG playing it from the bumper view that I'm still better with that one. Also, the whole 3-D TV thing works better when there is a cockpit or like a visible helmet around the screen, so not being able to play it with internal view on because of it all being blacked out and off-putting, made the 3-D less effective than putting the telly's own fake 3-D on when playing a 2-D Forza game from the inside view.
22:05 once again: the fact you can't correct oversteer properly in GT games is not the camera's fault. GT's steering has always been slow, which is the opposite of what you need to do to correct oversteer. I can catch slides all day in other games that have faster steering.
Gran Turismo 5 was my last Gran Turismo. I bought a PS1 for Gran Turismo 1 and 2. Bought a PS2 for 3. I didn't get 4 because my family entered some hard times. When we got back up, I went with a PS3 to get GTA 4 and GT5. GT5 would brick my PS3, giving it the Yellow Light of Death. I remember being disappointed in GT5. It was the first time Polyphony seemed to phone it in. The fact that they re-used content from the PS2 era was lazy. The tie-ins were unnecessary with NASCAR, go-carting and Top Gear. It tried to do too much with too little. The absolute worst thing was the paint jobs. There is this peculiar bullshit where you can repaint the car, but must own a paint swatch. So, if there was a favorite color you have, it better be available on a cheap new car you can buy. Yay, I bought my dream car! Time to buy a new Honda Civic in Tahiti Blue so I can use that paint swatch I unlock (ONLY ONE, You'd have to buy multiple new cars to get more) to paint my new dream car blue. WHY? Such bullshit.
Believe it or not, I love Mod Nation racers. GT5, like Wipeout HD. It is in the alley of PS3 games I used to play. Besides Ridge Racer 7. These are the games I also grew up with during the transition. I never see this much content to put hours on the basis. Premium models are well-detailed. While Standard models have seen better days and looked better outside of GT5 and 6. I get the CBBE CPU (or Cell Broadband Engine) is tough to understand. I understand this whole quality over quantity. The Built-in Map Creator is pretty standard but at least it doesn't force me to use the GT6 Map Editor application. Drift mode is in the game (Though I am not much of a DK guy). Gran Turismo TV is something I didn't bother. The soundtrack is plenty and diverse, but I stick to the game's Custom MP3 support as I did with Modnation Racer so I can put in the imaginable racing soundtrack from other games (Looks at Arcade Stage and Maxi Tune with a smirk face). GT Auto Shop is there, Race Conversions only applies to Premium Models, not the Standard ones, Top Gear collaboration is better in some Forza games, and NASCAR content is here which is why we got Daytona and Indianapolis Speedway. Not really a fan of loading this game from the hard drive desk because it takes a long time which is the reason why solid state drive is recommended (selectivity).
You know what really annoys me about GT5. GTPSP's interiors while black actually were inside of the car, so you could see outside car features even if minor, while GT5 only had cut outs. I don't hate Standard cars, in fact i think they stand up well especelly with things like better reflections than what GT4 had, but its annonying that there are downgrades from the psp game in some form.
There was an app for the track editor, which let put more details in like stands and adjust the width of the track. It shame it got turn off with the online functions of the main game.
Man, everyone complained about the cars, but it was a mistake, it's the last game like it we would ever see. GT6 did better with more content, some standard cars improved, some converted to premium, improved car customization, but the worse career mode and lack of used car dealership, specially being able to buy any car at any time, kinda made it not be as fun. If they had re-released GT4 for PS3, with more cars on track, a bit more content, it would have been awesome, a preview of it is just playing this, with a mod to play the hidden PS2 tracks, though the graphical rendering is not implemented properly, since those used baked shadows, while here most of those will have your car always be bright from light exposure, even in tunnels, and it's shadows always visible, again even in tunnels. Man I think standard tracks, with adapted lighting, like just the whole car going darker and it's shadow fading when going into a tunnel or some other shadow from the scenery, that would have been cool, they could've made these some extra event instances not required to beat the game or something, so it would be optional to run in them. Replaying this game now on RPCS3 is kinda fun, though only loading times are improved, since my PC can't handle it well and it runs at 720p 30fps (with some dips), but at least my new CPU and NVMe allows for quick starts (I guess if I could get an SSD for my PS3 I would just play it there instead). I went with a strategy of doing license tests to advance the used car lot (also bought another very slow car to remove some credits, HARD START like, only 8k left, but with some winnings from the kart challenge), so I could get something different to start with, eventually settling on an 80's CR-X. Also to make it more tough I added a challenge of using ballast to add my fat-arse, in comparison to what I imagine would be the average weight of a racing driver, and limiting HP to 90%. Worked very well, made it more challenging and fun.
On the other hand for GT6, with mods you can now play all the online seasonal events again, which shows how great modern "live-service" style games would be if they KEPT the content after the update, instead of making those an incentive to play RIGHT NOW or you will miss it. Standard cars in these games are fine if you ever wished for a slightly better looking GT3 or 4, the cars and most tracks are there. Seriously, like, all last-for-that-generation GT games should have been cross-generation like GT7. Think of GT2 in the 2000's on PS2, single disc, with 60fps, maybe even 480p already. GT4 on PS3, all content (you missed that some real world tracks didn't make it into 5, or at least one: Infineon), more cars on track, 1080p, probably with a stable 60fps unlike GT5 and 6. GT6, on PS4, NOW probably having stable 60fps, with higher resolution shadows and reflections.. ..these could all have had some other graphical improvement over the prev-gen release too, like the PS2 lighting for GT2 (which we can see a close equivalent of on the intros of the PS1 titles). Maybe they could in some way implement a few real-time shadows from PS3 on GT4 (I imagine scenery could cast shadows on vehicles, but not on the scenery itself, to avoid having to mess with all the baked-in shadows, only doing it for the 24-hour endurance tracks, which could be the first in the series with advancing time-of-day). Maybe we would've seen shadows from objects in front of headlights right on GT6 on a PS4, rather than waiting for GT7 (which does have that effect even on a base PS4, or at least the PS4 Slim model I have).
Gran Turismo 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4 were pretty much what I wanted a PS3 for when my brother kept insisting I wanted a PS3, the 360 having more games I cared about available on it, many also on PS3 anyway, but mainly Halo, my Xbox Clan's bread and butter! To say I was disappointed in this game is putting it mildly, but at least I didn't hate it like I did 6 (killed three PlayStations on me, did that!!)! Still, at least there's always Uncharted and Dynasty Warriors Gundam, of which there is a PS3 exclusive fourth game anyway, so...
What’s the most striking difference to Gt6 and 7 is that gt5 remains the last truly realistic game in terms of true world performance of cars. Gt6 made factory cars way too fast, it was so bad I threw it out right away. Even gt7 has that mistake still. Gt5 got acceleration data even on obsucre cars down to a tee such as the A series racing cars toyota 1, the jaguar even the Schuhmacher Mercedes.
It was Succesor, it was also a restart.(Named 'Premium' Witch Left legacy to GT7)And i guess It could be One more Brave to Restart Once again at GTSPORT and tada, GT7 came out. Let's Take A good looking where we are now. GT should restarted no matter at the number of whatever. And GT Did. Aaaand so much Dynamic PV Angle's. Those were interesting even I had no chance to play.
ps3 just hasnt got any other racing games i bought midnigh club La and test drive unlimited 2 hopefully they are fun but unfortunately not a simulation as GT
Forza 4 had adaptive difficulty? I always assumed it was some locked medium difficulty since it never seemed as hard as free events with the difficulty maxed That's actually why after 2000 hours of Forza 4 as a kid I never finished the career, it was too boring to bother
Gt5 was my first GT since the first one and i absolutely loved it. I got it right before 6 came out so i skipped 6 and was gonna oick up the next one. But it was sport so i just gave up on gt
But can you play the actual single player career mode though, or just mini-games and random one off races? Although, random one off races can be fun. especially with the amount of cars in GT. The worst thing about Project Gotham 2 on the OG X-Box was you could only do the set arcade races (about 16 tracks, out of hundreds, every event used a different track set-up) and even then ONLY driving the car they give you, was kinda heartbreaking when you race a bad-ass track in a shittbox GTI and can NEVER race it in a Porsche or a Noble. Would have loved setting up random one off races in that game.

If you have a ps3, give a game like RDR a shot at 1080p and 480p, game runs somewhere in between those res, yet the game will run exactly the same
Long videos like these are what I need, honestly. Back in 2022, I was going through a rough time around July, but your Burnout reviews really helped me. Cheers!

If only they have livery Editor tho
Here is some advice for if you review GT6, if you turn on flicker reduction in the settings it enables better AA and engages v-sync. Same for gt5 I think.
I like your funny words magic man
Back in my University days, I had a GT Driving Force Pro set up on a little table with a make shift set up, and used to have a group of mates over a few days a week to play this game, complete the challenges and races, etc.

Oh boy, let me get my popcorn!
I prob watched ur original review of gt 5 a number of times! Im glad to see another video on it!
Your comment about Herman Tilker is sooo on point! I heard some seasoned commenters on tv expressing disdain for Tilker's tracks, too. I agree. They're uninspired 😭 I hope future potential tracks skip over Tilker 🤞🏿
Rumour has it a new track is in the works to be built in Tennessee or some neighboring state and MotoGP and F1 are interested in racing there.
GT5 has a place in my heart
15:30 There is a DLC enabler; Copy your save to PC and edit it there!

These Gran Turismo Re Reviews are awesome please keep going
Great review as always! This was my very first, and at time of writing the only Gran Turismo game I've ever played, but I used to have fun with arcade mode and was amazed by the replay mode capturing my gameplay so well. Also, I love that you played "Soul On D!splay" in this review, that's easily my favourite song in GT5!
I still have all my DLC for GT5.🎉
No matter how many Re-Reviews you do

Damn, can't believe this game is almost 15 years old.
I still remember those days of praying for a Formula GT, historic racecar, and a DTM car to show up in the UCD in order to finish the career mode without forking over 20+million credits lol
wow I haven't been in a Colourshed Review in a while. missed your videos man! been busy lately but I'm glad you have videos out again.
I've been waiting for this video. You remind me of my love of ps2 games and why I got into GT in the first place.
I miss this game. Loved the dirty and clean races as well as the drag and drift lobbies.
Was not expecting a Tilke call-out, but you're certainly not wrong!
The first game I bought for myself NEW when I got my PS3, love it even today
Wake up bro it's 2010.
Can’t wait for the Re-re-review in 5 years time!
This was the first game I ever played. It holds a special place in my heart ❤
Save editing really brought life back and replay value to this game for me.
i personally like the standard cars being here. it gives more visual variety, more stuff to look forward to getting, and the whole garage transfer from GT5 to GTPSP helps me in terms of progression in both.
Oh god, the particle effects. I still can’t believe they shipped it like that.

Another job well done man .

I still play this game every now and then. Its great.
I don’t mind the "Standard" cars existing in GT5. After getting the Master Mod, I literally have infinite racing events available to me.
Loads of Love from Scotland :)) ❤ Hope you'll still review Gran turismo 4 prologue
Did you try to increase controller sensitivity?

BRING BACK SHUFFLE RACING
Been playing this recently on RPCS3 and it's so hard to put down.
fantastic as always
Not really a fan of loading this game from the hard drive desk because it takes a long time which is the reason why solid state drive is recommended (selectivity).
i remember makeing customs race tracks on this game
You know what really annoys me about GT5.
GTPSP's interiors while black actually were inside of the car, so you could see outside car features even if minor, while GT5 only had cut outs.
I don't hate Standard cars, in fact i think they stand up well especelly with things like better reflections than what GT4 had, but its annonying that there are downgrades from the psp game in some form.
There was an app for the track editor, which let put more details in like stands and adjust the width of the track. It shame it got turn off with the online functions of the main game.
Re-review for GT6 coming eventually soon then too? What an awesome trip down memory lane.
Bruh the two ungettable MP achievements tho...
8:55 ouch lmao 😂
Just think this games grind aspect can put people off, considering gt4 was very easy to obtain a ton of credits but apart from that, do love this game
I think all the delays in production and the hype leading up to the release really killed this game.
RPCS3 devs needa hurry up lmao (jk, but I'm not)
Gran Turismo 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4 were pretty much what I wanted a PS3 for when my brother kept insisting I wanted a PS3, the 360 having more games I cared about available on it, many also on PS3 anyway, but mainly Halo, my Xbox Clan's bread and butter!

Gt5 got acceleration data even on obsucre cars down to a tee such as the A series racing cars toyota 1, the jaguar even the Schuhmacher Mercedes.

sorry a little error with gt7 offline you can still play music rally, single player race, time trial and drift trial.
