    Can the intake manifold be replaced with one without swirl flaps?🎉???

      Yes, it can, and I think that's a better idea than what I did. They are available from overseas.

    Oven cleaner for the cleaning. . . yes its caustic, but the manifold is thick.

    Thank you for this video! I am currently working through this process with my newly required e320 cdi. I did not consider painting the intake but after seeing the under the hood shot on your one year update video, I might have to choose a sweet color for mine! I am curious about the intercooler pipe you plugged, is this the one on the side of the intake?

      Sorry for my slow response. I'm focused almost entirely on my anti-censorship efforts and haven't been on here, much.
      Let me know how your project goes. You'll get a faster reply on artofdiesel.substack.com
      Yes, that was the intercooler pipe on the intake side that I plugged. That brazing process takes some practice, and lots of heat!

    I bought an intake w/o flaps. More cost effective when considering time. Also now have an intake I can sell (with flaps and motor), so net cost will end up being even less.

    • @ArtOfDiesel

      That's a good idea. It definitely would save time and money overall.

      I've since talked with several who have taken this approach, including the current tuner I'm using.

    I did mine in like 30min tap,clean,bolt with 5000psi epoxy work ilke new.😊

    • @ArtOfDiesel
      @ArtOfDiesel  20 дней назад

      That might actually work with fewer issues. I had to redo my brazing in some areas. Takes a LOT of heat and time to get it right.
      On my OM642 engines, I drilled out the holes for 1/8" NPT and put brass plugs in. I'd go back to that next time, never had any boost leaks at the manifold.

    You can clean it with aluminum brightener! Cleans the soot super easy

    Where are you located btw? Here in Miami, I've had little luck finding good mechanics for small diesel engines

      Cincinnati area. I'm not a mechanic for a living, but if you find yourself in this area, I might be able to help with some things. Get a free account on my substack and we can chat more on there. It's also easier to make direct contact that way. artofdiesel.substack.com/

    I am having no success in getting rid of my P0113 error code? I have replaced the entire mass airflow sensor device (including both sensors), and the airmass sensor (mounted just before the turbo inlet. None of this has changed my P0113 code! Where should I look next?

    • @ArtOfDiesel
      @ArtOfDiesel  Год назад

      Oh, goodness... I'm sorry to hear you've replaced all of that. The P0113 code is about the inlet air temperature sensor. This is found on the front of the aluminum tube that goes up from the intercooler to the mixer on the bottom of the intake manifold. These are cheap and relatively easy to replace. I recently replaced mine, in fact, with this part. Some might say to stick with Bosch/OEM, but this is working fine for me: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BL2ZP3JP

      This is wrong info. I’m struggling with the same P0113 code which is sensor 1 IAT. If I unplug the sensor you are referring to, that throws a P0098 IAT sensor 2 code. I cannot seem to find where the IAT sensor 1 is on this car, starting to think it’s an ECU issue.

      Dude I feel your pain. I’ve got the same code as you and for the life of me I can’t figure it out. MB dealer looked at it a couple of hours and couldn’t figure it out, said they’d need more time to diagnose.

    What did you end up doing with the port for coolant passage for the EGR? EGR was deleted with this mod obviously.

    • @ArtOfDiesel
      @ArtOfDiesel  9 месяцев назад

      Yes. I capped it. I simply cut out a piece of steel to the right shape, drilled a couple holes, and bolted it on with a homemade gasket to seal it up.

    Mixing chamber... a guy did this and ended up with a bad weld, sucked a blob of material into the engine = destroyed engine. Note: resonator acts as a buffer to smoothen out turbo fluctuations; some say it is a ner positive for the turbo.

    • @ArtOfDiesel
      @ArtOfDiesel  Год назад

      The input is appreciated. Need to have a good braze or welding job on this for sure! Three's another "shock absorber" right after the turbo and the tuning of that resonator would likely be off anyways, as my intercooler has a much larger volume than stock. I'll have a gauge and I'll take a look at whether we see any fluctuations in this setup.

    Can you do this job for me? I really like my CDI, I've had it for 16 years and have 270k miles on it, I use it everyday but I'm pretty sure it needs that soot cleaning

    • @ArtOfDiesel
      @ArtOfDiesel  Год назад +2

      Man...it's a lot of work and you don't want to be paying me for all of that. I'm not a mechanic for a living (I'm engineering manager in the aerospace world) and this is just my hobby. Contact a local machine shop to see what they can do for you. They'd probably have better equipment than I do and would be a lot cheaper/quicker than me. OR: Somebody provided an input about using a kind of slurry for this that is supposed to be a lot easier than my approach. Supposedly the information is on RUclips if you search around. If you find it and use it, please share your results! Also, please join my substack for free to chat in more detail: artofdiesel.substack.com/
