Great list. I would add 27 don't pull part of the sealing ring out and then just keep pulling. Work your way around. The rivets under the retaining ring can snap if too much force is applied. 28 buy an extra sealing ring and use one for sweet/low flavour foods, and one for strong savoury foods like chillies, curries, beans, etc.
The spoon/ladels that come with most instant pots with the "standard" release valves actually fit onto the release valve - use the handle end where there's a hole for hanging the utensil, it should pretty much fit on perfectly 👍🏻
If you’re that afraid, let it sit for a while. It doesn’t have to be quick released. I’ve always used my finger & have NEVER burned myself. All you have to do is touch the the little protruding thingy and move it with the slightest twitch of your finger. If your big enough to cook, then your big enough to bend your finger.
Love this video. OneNote from an electrician though. If an extension cord has an impact on your cook time, the cord wires are too small. This is bad for the appliance, and it is potentially a safety hazard. Big box (Lowe’s, HomeDepot, etc) or hardware stores sell a variety of cords in different gages. Also the longer the cord, the heavier gage it needs to be.
I burned out 3 expensive 55 cup coffee pots before knowing not to put it on an extension cord. Get a designated extension cord specifically for small appliances.

Hey, just wanted to make the comment that my husband who fixes furnaces heard your last tip, and he said that your problem is likely that you're using an extension cord with too small of a gauge. A heavy-duty extension cord should fix the problem. Doesn't have to be longer, just a thicker gauge.
You must not have read the manual. Unfortunately, with RUclips, people are losing the ability to read. I saw a video the other day and 97% of the comments said what a great video it was, yatta, yatta. Most of them didn’t even realize she was missing parts of her Instant Pot! But "it was great...". Obviously the lady who made the video didn’t read her manual either!
Quick note: if you are having problems with an extension cord,. you are likely using a cheap (lamp) extension. I haven't tried it with the pot, because I have no need. And it's busy extending my microwave oven ;)

Best video if you are thinking of buying an instapot and want to learn about it. The no music was perfect. Most of the time I find music distracting. Also thank you for using your natural perfect voice. I think that fake gravelly voice that some people have adopted is like nails on a chalkboard so thank you for not doing that. You have an amazing voice. You would be great as a voiceover artist
Crikkee !!! Quite a lot of frigging around. My crockpot seems like childs play to use compared to this device. I can cook better rice on the stove top in a pan than this thing!! Not sure why this is supposed to be so good??? Im selling mine at yard sale. Bye bye.
Excellent tips. Even those of us who have been cooking for years can learn a thing or two from your video. As far as the music goes: This is the first video of yours that I've watched, so I can't compare with/without for yours, but I usually find that music with an instructional video distracts rather than enhances.
I prefer that the music does not play while you're speaking. Music is a nice filler for the transitions between topics, but is a distraction while you speak. I really appreciate your interesting and informative videos.
Very concise and to the point. I luv it. I am a slow cooker guy but I acquired an electric pressure cooker XL and a 1st time user, so I am learning not to hurt myself or others. Music or no music, I want to hear the important points. 👍
I looking to buy an Instant Pot and researching how to use it. This information, although some of it is common sense, is great for a noob like me. Thank you for this video.
Great job explaining everything. This is the most thorough video and explanations I've seen since I open my instant pot. It doesn't matter to me with or without music. It's your video, so run it however you like.
Great tips! Make oatmeal first and eggs for egg salad second. =) Third meal - make pressure cooked beef short ribs - big payoff on that one. Big tip for me... learn how to use the timer. I love waking up and having breakfast (oatmeal - just oats and water) ready for the kids already.
If you use an extension cord with your instant pot you need to use a heavier gauge Appliance cord because a regular extension cord can't handle the amount of Watts that the instant pot uses.
came here to say this. absolutely nothing wrong electrically when using the right cord. mine is 18 awg and can be found by searching for heavy duty extension or 18awg extension. that being said, do be careful if you need to use any extension cord because of the increased likelyhood of tripping over or accidentaly pulling on the cord... which could be bad news. short cords are a safety feature for many appliances...

@@robertgoetsch6790 Wrong way! 18 awg is smaller than 16, which most household extension cords are. Wire gauge numbers are backwards, smaller number is larger wire. 14 awg will handle 1500 watts up to a reasonable distance, 25' or so.
I totally agree, In our RV I have to be careful with overloading circuits, I installed a dedicated 20 amp outlet for a portable air conditioner, now that it is winter I use a heavy duty 14 gauge / 10 ft. long extension cord and plug in any high draw appliance I need it for. works great. I have used it for portable electric heater, air fryer, instant pot, counter top dishwasher... the list goes on. never a problem if you use the correct equipment.
Regarding the slow cook option I've found the opposite to be true. If a recipe states 6hrs in a slow cooker I find it is done after 3. These are meat free recipes, anyone else find this?
Love the site. Number 27, do not use the stainless steel liner for any cooking except as liner in Instant Pot. Not on stove top. and not baking in oven. Thank you.
No background music please. As an older person with hearing problems, it's easier to hear you without background music/noise. Thank you. Love your videos.
Hello, Richard Gray. Since pressure cooking is not a bit like regular cooking, new instant pot users don't know any of this other than by trial and error (and wasting a lot of time, effort, and food).
That's a very arrogant thing to say! Many people have never used a pressure cooker or an instant pot and therefore don't know what they're working with. I would rather give more information than not enough!
I've never even seen a pressure cooker before. The only thing I hopefully wouldn't have done is try to open it under pressure (hopefully). I really appreciate her video as a total newbie. I suspect you've been using them for a while so everything is really obvious. Well, it is NOW, but not before I watched it. :)
#27 Don’t forget to put the seal back on your instant pot before using it after cleaning it. I've done this more than once. It will function without the seal, but it won't work. This is a great video. I felt the face palm of mistakes I've made and learned some new stuff too.😁👍
No background music! Great channel - love these do's /don'ts! Btw, don't quick release things that are of oatmeal consistency either - wait at least 10 minutes. Spoken from experience! :-)
I noticed you have a towel under the instant pot on your counter. I suggest you add a note to your video. The user guide states clearly to not block the vents under the unit. I feel some people may think it is ok to use a thick or fluffy towel....not good.
If you ever revise this video, I recommend a slight change to your extension cord reference. If the extension cord you used extended the time to get to pressure and to cook, this means the cord you used did not have a sufficient amperage rating, and the cord itself was heating up. The reason not to use such a cord is that it is a significant fire hazard. An appliance cord rated for the amperage drawn by the Instant Pot would be electrically safe, but it usually presents the hazard of someone snagging it while the pot is in use. So, same recommendation (don't use an extension cord), but for slightly different reasons. No music is best. Storing lid and seal ring my favorite.
Wow. Great tips. I thought you could use it as a slow cooker as well, so really good tip. Also liked the one about removing the sealing ring & the extension cord. But I won't always have that choice about outlets. And yes I prefer no music.
I think that each brand of instant pots may work a bit differently. I use the slow cook setting and and it only adds maybe 30 to 45 minutes extra, when on high, maybe 1 hour or so on low. I would suggest doing a test before assuming that you are going to have to cook it twice as long.
I've had my IP for about 5 years but thought I'd watch this anyway. SO glad I did as used the slow cooker function only once and never again as the food wasn't cooked - I had no idea this is different from usual slow cookers. Also would not have known about the extension lead - thank you! Great vid and great to have no music and be able to hear you :)

After only a few attempts, you'll kick yourself for waiting so long. Definitely stay tuned to this lady and also look at pressureluckcooking.com -- his recipes always come out great.
No music is better
thanks for the feedback, martin!! i appreciate it! - Lisa
No music! Neurological impairment and can’t tolerate music at all. Wouldn’t be able to watch at all with music behind voice.
Save your energy.
Crikkee !!! Quite a lot of frigging around. My crockpot seems like childs play to use compared to this device.
I can cook better rice on the stove top in a pan than this thing!! Not sure why this is supposed to be so good???
Im selling mine at yard sale. Bye bye.
Thank you for being quick and to the point! You were my 4th video search! Glad I found your video
When RUclips videos have music playing when people are talking, I think that's unprofessional sounding. You made a good choice!
First time watching...was great..no fluff, no mush , just pure info. Congrats.
Very concise and to the point. I luv it. I am a slow cooker guy but I acquired an electric pressure cooker XL and a 1st time user, so I am learning not to hurt myself or others. Music or no music, I want to hear the important points. 👍
I'm hard of hearing and I hate music playing while someone is talking it makes it hard to understand what is being said
Great video, Lisa! I had many people request no music in my videos as well. And tip #27 don’t be scared of your Instant Pot. :)
Im scared after this! 😂
Mine arrives tomorrow! #1 about not putting it on glass stovetop is really good to know. Thank you for all of your tips!
Thank you for NO BACKGROUND MUSIC
What kind of crazy person dislikes this video? it is straight to the point solid information presented as clear as possible
@@robertgoetsch6790 ah shutuppa you face www.homedepot.com/p/CERTIFIED-APPLIANCE-ACCESSORIES-3-ft-14-3-1-Wire-Conductor-Extension-Cord-15-0303/309364982?mtc=Shopping-B-F_Brand-G-Multi-NA-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Catchall_PLA&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_Brand-G-Multi-NA-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Catchall_PLA-71700000014585962-58700001236285396-92700010802552412&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7OnxBRCNARIsAIW53B8ntZpVL6uXXLfyYxSJ6PqgDMniMLXkTFwvTGlwq8juLfbApLFaplgaAtivEALw_wcB
@@robertgoetsch6790 Wrong way! 18 awg is smaller than 16, which most household extension cords are. Wire gauge numbers are backwards, smaller number is larger wire. 14 awg will handle 1500 watts up to a reasonable distance, 25' or so.
Thanks for that tip
No background 👍
No music!! Thank you. I have a hard time hearing the words when there is back ground music. Love this channel!!!
Half of these tips could be summed up as "Don't be an idiot."
Hello, Richard Gray. Since pressure cooking is not a bit like regular cooking, new instant pot users don't know any of this other than by trial and error (and wasting a lot of time, effort, and food).
Very informative better without music.
Thank you
That's a very arrogant thing to say!
@@MrDanharmon Maybe you're right, but to me, some of these tips are akin to the "not for human consumption" warnings on a container of Tide Pods.
No music, thanks! Really enjoy your videos.
No music is better to hear you!
Try a cord with thicker wires inside it and you might find it helps, less resistance in the wire. Great video.
The provided cord is a cruel joke , buy a higher gauge and longer one at the hardware home store
@@michaeltaylors2456 They're short for a reason.
@@mjt1517 Higher profit for the manufacturer. The shortness, or cheapness of it is sold to the gullible as a safety feature
No music is best video always! Kitten and puppy videos need music only! Thank you !
I had to rewind #6. I can’t believe that has to be explained. 🤔🤔🥴🥴
Apparently my wife has learned over time because she agreed on these points.
I thought I was Instant Pot savvy. BUT I learned SO MUCH from this! Thank you :)
Wow.
My Russel Hobbs brand CAN slow cook
My pressure cooker also has a canning and slow cooker function with a 2, 4 and 8 hour function for the slow cooker it’s the pressure cooker xl
I thought some of the tips are common sense and I was rolling my eyes until I thought about how ridiculously careless or stupid some people are
Definitely no background music. Thank you. Love the tip to store the lid upside down!
Hello how are you doing today ❤️
I've had my IP for about 5 years but thought I'd watch this anyway. SO glad I did as used the slow cooker function only once and never again as the food wasn't cooked - I had no idea this is different from usual slow cookers. Also would not have known about the extension lead - thank you! Great vid and great to have no music and be able to hear you :)
I know there actually people out there dumb enough to use the Instant Pot without the liner. Still, it’s sad that you actually need to include that.
